Octuplet mom Nadya Suleman’s Dr. implanted a 49 yo w/ 7 embryos

Octuplet mom Nadya Suleman told many lies in her interview with Ann Curry. She said that she hadn’t had any plastic surgery or lip augmentation, that she wasn’t relying on taxpayer money despite the fact that she receives food stamps and three out of six of her older children are on disability, and she denied an obsession with Angelina Jolie. She also said that the same doctor implanted her with “the same” number of embryos each time she was pregnant, six, and that this time it just “worked a little too well.”

Nadya’s mother Angela denies that her daughter went to the same IVF doctor this last time. Angela, the primary caregiver for Nadya’s six older children, claimed that she and her husband spoke to the doctor and pleaded with him not to work with Nadya again to implant her with more children she couldn’t care for. The result is that Nadya doctor shopped until she found someone willing to implant her with all the remaining embryos she had left over from earlier IVF treatments, according to her mother.

According to Nadya, she used the same guy each time and he always used six embryos at a pop, but the sneaky way she words this really makes it sound to me like she had more implanted this last time.

unequivically – I went to the same physician where I was comfortable and the same thing was done. This was just a completely different outcome

Dr. Kamrava declined out request for an interview.

Nadya says her doctor routinely transferred about six embyros because of her troubled medical history, which she says lowered the odds that any embryos would survive.. And that’s what she says happened in the procedure that led to the octuplets.

Ann Curry: You didn’t want just one or two embryos?

Nadya Suleman: Of course not. I wanted them all transferred. Those are my – those are my children. And that’s what was available. And I used ’em. So, I took a risk. It’s a gamble. It always is.

Now Dr. Kamrava, the fertility doctor who thought it was a great idea to implant a single mother of six children with six embryos (or was it seven?) is under investigation. He recently implanted a 49 year-old woman with seven embryos, which resulted in quadruplets. The recommendation for women over 35 is that they be implanted with two or less embryos due to potential medical complications:

The fertility doctor that helped Nadya Suleman give birth to octuplets also provided treatment to a 49-year-old woman who is pregnant with quadruplets, the Los Angeles Times reports.

Sources tell the newspaper that Dr. Michael Kamrava implanted at least seven embryos from younger donor eggs into the woman, who is currently hospitalized.

“I do think it is concerning, and dangerous, especially to the mother,” a doctor familiar with the case told the Times. “She is close to 50. When women get to be that age, our fear is the cardiovascular complications, such as stroke or heart attack. That’s how serious this is.”

Suleman told the Today Show’s Ann Curry she was implanted with six embryos, some of which split.

Kamrava is under investigation by the California Medical Board and American Society for Reproductive Medicine, which recommends women under 35 are implanted with no more than two embryos.

[From US Weekly]

Nadya Suleman has a history of lying through her teeth, so I would bet that her mom is correct and she got implanted by a different doctor with all those leftover day old embryos she couldn’t bear to leave sitting there. No matter what happened, this guy needs to lose his license to say the least. Doctor Kamrava has been sued at least six times in malpractice cases brought against him by former patients, according to legal documents uncovered by Splash photo agency. He’s also been sued twice by employees, and had to pay out $275,000 to a former embryologist he worked with who sued him for breach of contract. The embryologist claimed he fired her after she complained about the secrecy surrounding his work.

Meanwhile the Octomom was seen out along without any of her six older children at a video game store buying games. Nice to know where those donations and tax dollars are going, although she’s probably spending NBC’s money at this point.

This women is the definition of vile & disgusting. That is all.

    edit: and man

  3. mojoman says:

Hope this guys pays for what he did..shady is an understatement! Got to lie down, think I have an octo-mummy overload.

  4. Jane says:

    Malpractice and secrecy… I bet he’s good. >.>;

  5. Dorothy says:

I think your story Kitty is a little off topic. There is a difference from internet dating and birthing 6-8 babies…

Also I think it is okay that she is buying a few thing for the older kids because they won’t be getting anything including attention when the other babies get home.

  6. xiaoecho says:

Every time I read the word Octo-mom I see that nauseating picture of her hugely distended belly and gag

  7. Rreedy says:

This DR should be sued for malpractice and his license yanked. Maybe his malpractice insurance will pay for the care of these babies.
The state should seize the children and give them to responsible, loving parents. The Mother is a total psychopath. Do you agree, dear readers?

  8. Azurea says:

There is a good reason why human beings don’t routinely deliver litters: human babies have a long and complex road to reach adulthood, and require close attention by their parent(s) to mature well, physically, mentally and emotionally. Having eight children all the same age is a guarantee that they will not receive enough loving attention, which every human has the right to expect. If Suleman is so highly educated, she can’t possibly agree that this was a good idea. Has anyone investigated if she really HAS been going to school, and is really pursuing a master’s? Or is that just another of her lies?

  9. YoMomma says:

Love the phrase: “…transferred about six embyros because ofher troubled medical history” Shouldn’t it read: her troubled MENTAL history?

Did you know that the ad on this page is for a fertility clinic in Seattle? Do you have a choice of what ad appears with your article or is this a coincidence? If not it is a pretty funny joke.

  10. Embee says:

This quote contains the first iota of logic I’ve read about this woman: apparently she has an attachment to the embryos created in IVF and feels it is her responsibility to give them an opporunity to develop.

I still think she’s irresponsible and misguided but this gives better context to the decision.

  11. sissoucat says:

So happy we’re at least getting to the real culprit in this story.

The mom of 14 ? She’s deranged. She needs help. She didn’t hurt or endanger her children, she’s only done what she thought was the best for them – birth a whole bunch of them. She really does need help.

Is she worse than the Duggars ? They’re married, they have money, which they mainly got by this idiotic media interest in their many kids – but if they had had the possibility of having 8 kids at once ? They would have done it in a second. They must be so pissed right now.

But now the world hates her and still likes the Duggars ! Come on. She’s her own victim, and the kids are innocents. And she’s their mother ! You wouldn’t want to deprive 14 innocent kids from the person they most love ?

But that shitty doctor ? He took no personal risks, mind you ; his job is to help and cure, not risk a disturbed patient’s life and financial security by making her have a litter.

She was lucky : she’s alive and well, and she’ll get help because of the media interest. But what if she had died ? Nobody would have heard of it. And there would be 6 orphans.

    Let’s think about it.

  12. SarahS says:

troubled medical history – is she referring to her mental status or her inability to bear children forgoing ivf? it seemingly took each time, so i’m going for mental.

sissoucat, i think that most people make the distinction between her and the duggars based on the fact that this woman can’t support them and has obvious mental health issues that are not being addressed. the duggars maintain a lifestyle that enables them to pay cash, not be in debt, not be on the government tab and have such a large family based on their religious beliefs, not to try to fill some void. imo, none of the children from either family will or does get the individual attention they deserve, but again, that’s just my opinion.

  13. SarahS says:

And yes – this doctor should be reprimanded/licensed revoked etc.

  14. guest says:

that doctor is a freak & his license should be revoked.

  15. karvictho says:

As soon as the doctor Suleman claims helped her is sued by the state for malpractice, we will finally start getting truthful answers. So far, what is emerging is that Suleman has lots of problems, and lots of kids, which means lots of taxpayer money.

  16. kiki says:

Doctors are in for the $ money $

    they cant say NO
    you are too OLD
    you cant SUPPIORT your children
    You already HAVE CHILDREN
as long as they are paid …they dont care

  17. sissoucat says:

SarahS: Thanks for your post, I did indeed base my comment on the lack of individual attention for the kids.

I can’t see that many differences on the resource front. The Duggars live with media money, not because they’ve achieved anything, just because they won’t stop having kids. Just like Suleman plans to live now. She’s not yet there, but it’s the same idea.

I guess I’m a lot less sensitive about the taxpayer issue since in my country, one of the missions of the State is to ensure that no baby grows up in abject poverty (a nice way to curb criminality). Everybody, rich or poor, gets baby money – the same amount.

Besides, I don’t think religion condones making money out of your number of kids. If the Duggars shunned the media, I would say they are different from Suleman.

    • RdyfrmycloseupmrDvlle says:

just as an FYI…the Duggars had plenty of money long before their show. The husband built a great business and he provided well long before the TV cameras showed up.

  18. lio says:

    sissoucat
    +1!

  19. Orange Danish says:

What’s interesting for me here is that she claims she was not able to bear children while married.

What if she just thought, “OH. It’s my fault. I’m just infertile,” but in reality, it was her husband that was rather infertile and the one who couldn’t help her reproduce?

If this is what’s going on, then this woman is so self centered and might have such a low self esteem that she just assumes that everything that goes wrong OR right is her fault and her doing.

Agh. This woman is a train wreck.

And, I agree with everyone when they say this doctor needs to lose his license. He’s doing it for the publicity.

  20. Jen says:

The Duggars were financially stable from the get-go (like, kid #2)….well before Discovery started making the documentaries.

  21. Ria says:

The Duggars are self-supporting – they don’t get government assitance. True, I couldn’t live their way of life nor would I want to have that many kids. But it’s a religious choice on their part. They lost a child while she was on the pill and made the decision to not use birth control again.

I think they stay on TV because they see it as a way of getting their message out – they are very outspoken about their Christian beliefs. My husband and I have actually read some of the books they recommend, and they emphasize a strong marriage.

And, if TLC were willing to pay me to follow me around a few months out of the year, I’d do it! We have student loans to pay off.

  22. mE says:

Just for clarity’s sake, he didn’t “implant” them, he transferred them. Implantation is what you wait a week and a half to see if it happened or not.

“Implant” or “tranfer” what he did was extremely irresponsible. Reputable IVF docs will usually only transfer 2 or possibly 3 embryos at a time. 6 is just ludicrous.

  23. Tia says:

The Duggars are just plain creepy and gross.. I mean come on.. ewwwwwwww

  24. Annie says:

He needs to have more happen to him that just losing his medical license….

Her and the Duggars make me sad over this world.

Ms. Duggar has a baby, and then when they turn one, she just chucks em off to an “older buddy” so she can continue to be a breeder.

And this woman? Oh let’s not even get started.

  25. kate says:

the duggars are creepy, i don’t care if they are religious or not. and all these people with these enormous families are leaving huge carbon footprints on our environment. our resources are not infinite, people! odd that the parents aren’t too concerned about what kind of world they leave the next generation. and this doctor needs to have his license taken away – aren;t there any ethical guidleines at all with IVF?

  26. Chiara says:

“These are my children.” Second sentence, “And I can see the money from my house.”

Greed … doc, baby mom, nice couple.

  27. I’d say they should raise the brood together as punishment, but the only ones that would be punished are the little ones.

    What horrible, irresponsible people.

  28. CB Rawks says:

“You wouldn’t want to deprive 14 innocent kids from the person they most love?”

    Their Grandma?
Because they don’t even know their mother. She’s out getting french tips.

  29. brista says:

The Duggars and Nadya Suleman are two sides to the same crazy coin as far as I’m concerned. I think both moms have some sort of compulsion that pushes them to just keep wanting to have more children and collect them like Beanie Babies.

Why can’t people stop at five or six kids? That’s still a large family, but it’s not impossible to manage and there’s less risk of small children being forced to sign up for Mommy & Me time.

  30. Carrie says:

I’ve also been struck down with Octo-pussy Disease. Every time I read her lies and psycho-babble garbage in the press I feel physically ill. “The most villified mother on the planet”? …If the cap fits; wear it.

  31. czarina says:

I don’t think it’s fair to compare the Duggars and Suleman at all. First of all, they are a couple in a stable marriage with the means to support their family.(although not as nicely as they can with the whole TV thing, I’ll admit!). Moreover, I think it’s fair to say the Duggars did not have their children with the idea that this would be a media sensation that would garner them all kinds of money.
I doubt they had a publicist before the children were born!
They are nothing like this hideous Suleman woman.

  32. Marjorie says:

I say….let the the Doctor pay child support…then I feel justice will have been served. I bet no other Docs whold try this if they had to pay the million dollar plus tab instead of the poor tax payer!!!!

  33. CLEAR says:

Oh, and the house is Filthy McNASTYYYYY!!! Imagine poor Granny running around after 14, instead of the 6 at home now! It’s sad. That house is going to be seized by the bank this spring anyway, and Fake Jolie wants to incur some student loans to go to school or to take care of the babies, whichever one you believe. Does she realize how ridiculous-oh, nevermind. I am speaking about an unemployed, uninsured woman who decided to have more kids after having 6 at home. There is no reasoning. When did we stop committing the insane?

  34. I was unaware of the malpractice history of Doctor Kamrava how is he still in business or has never has his licence suspended?
