Poppy Delevingne wore a years-old Chanel gown for her London wedding: fab or fug?

wenn21360441

I wasn’t entirely sure who Poppy Delevingne was beyond “Cara’s sister,” but I guess she’s worthy of a post, especially for her wedding. Ladies love weddings! For the record, Poppy is an English model/muse/socialite/celebrity friend, in the grand tradition of “famous for being famous.” Poppy is tight with designer Matthew Williamson and Sienna Miller. Got it.

So, Poppy married her “long-term partner” James Cook on Friday. They happily posed for paparazzi photos, which always nice. First of all, is it just me or does James Cook look like he could be a not-so-distant cousin of Benedict Cumberbatch? It’s something about his face. It’s got an air of Cumby. Poppy’s maid of honor was her little sister Cara, and the third Delevingne sister, Chloe, was also in attendance but not in the bridal party. Chloe is the knocked up one in blue.

Both bride and maid of honor wore Chanel. Poppy’s gown is actually something we’ve seen before – it’s a years-old Chanel design that Blake Lively wore in 2011, to the premiere of The Green Lanterngo here to see. Poppy’s Chanel looks more intricate, especially with the bead work. So, it’s a years-old design that has been revamped a bit. I really don’t care for Cara’s dress though. The bride definitely got the better Chanel! As it should be.

Since I’m missing the bride gene, I guess I have no patience for the minutiae of the wedding details. I really like Poppy’s bouquet, and I like the simplicity of her veil. I don’t mind that she wore her hair down. Her new husband looks pleased and proud. All around, this seems like it was a beautiful wedding.

That blue dress is a disaster…

    • YummyMummy says:

That looks like the Victoria beckham quilted disaster.

      • Asra says:

        Haha true!!!

      • HappyMom says:

It is! It looked bad on Victoria Beckham when she wore it to William & Kate’s wedding-but this woman looks ridiculous.

      • Vivee says:

        @ HappyMom:

This isn’t the dress that Victoria Beckham wore to the royal wedding. The one she actually wore wasn’t quite as hideous!

      • bluhare says:

True, Vivee, but it is a dress from a more recent collection. She looks like a walking picnic blanket.

      • Sloane Wyatt says:

*Gasp* Poppy’s wedding gown is beautiful and she obviously feels like a Renaissance Princess Bride in it!

Her groom is glowing – James Cook was made for tails.

And even in that ridiculousness, Blue Mama is enjoying being part of the jubilant celebration! You can feel the happiness coming off the screen.

    • BangersandMash says:

she’s having some champagne for her and her baby!!

      • M.A.F. says:

It could be sparkling apple cider. Also, I thought studies say that is okay to have wine (& maybe champagne?) during the third trimester?

      • Tulip says:

@Bangersandmash. I keep telling myself its being held for the bride or its apple juice in a fancy glass.

      • Tulip says:

Can’t edit, so sorry about the double post M.A.F;)

      • Justme says:

Actually I think it is sparkling apple juice. It’s quite a bit darker than champagne. (Though one glass of bubbly isn’t going to cause damage anyway.)

      • Godwina says:

That’s not a problem or a bad thing to have the odd time, by today’s medical standards–if it even is champagne–and let’s not police pregnant women, please? They get enough shit from the public as it is. We don’t own them.

      • Miffy says:

One glass of champagne is actually fine for a pregnant woman. Chill, pearl clutchers.

    • Ficeyes says:

All of the dresses are butt ugly to me. It’s just that Cara’s dress looks the best. Then again, I just like Cara.

    • lucy2 says:

It is the most unflattering maternity dress ever.

  2. Ev says:

“the knocked up one” – haha
the dress she’s wearing – hahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahhaha

  3. Birdix says:

Poor Chloe got stuck wearing the wedding tent. Looks like she’s having fun though.

  4. Jacqueline says:

Why would a pregnant woman ever wear a dress like that?!

  5. bettyrose says:

That dress would only work on a total waif but…

  6. Suze says:

I don’t mind the hippie boho bridal look here. She followed it all the way through. Cara is all boho too so I guess that was their game, and they executed it.

The knocked up sister looks like she could be from another family. Horrid dress on her. She does look happy and game, though, so kudos to her.

    • MediaB says:

I can see the family resemblance in their faces, Chloe just hasn’t dyed her hair blonde (or isn’t at the moment because knocked-up), like the other two.

That said, the brides hair colour is stunning work…

  7. NewWester says:

Who on earth convinced that woman to wear that blue dress?

    • Sea Dragon says:

Yeah, my first thought was WOAH!
Why didn’t anyone tell her the truth?

  8. Jegede says:

Thanks for pointing it out Kaiser
I was wondering why Poppy’s dress looked so familiar
    http://fashion.telegraph.co.uk/article/TMG10836916/Poppy-Delevingne-marries-in-Chanel-couture.html

She’s the prettiest of the 3 sisters IMO

    • Tatjana says:

Poppy is the prettiest, I agree. I love the dress, but it would look even better if the bottom wasn’t seetrough.
It seems like a nice wedding.

Is there some rule that the bride should wear her hair up?

      • LAK says:

The bottom part is a skirt which she removed for the after wedding party. The short dress left behind was really pretty.

      • Tatjana says:

I know, I’ve seen the pictures, but it would still look better if it was a solid white.
They went out after the wedding, didn’t they? Does a wedding usually end that early?

      • Tatjana says:

I know, I’ve seen the pictures, but I still think it would look better if it was a solid white.
They went to a nightclub after, didn’t they? Do weddings usually end that early?

      • M.A.F. says:

No there isnt . A bride can do whatever they want.

  9. Dawn says:

I love her wedding dress. And the groom looks like a cross between Dan Stevens and Cumby in my opinion but he has better hair. I think having 17 attendents is overkill and always ruins what was more than likely a beautiful wedding.

    • Sloane Wyatt says:

OMG! They look beautiful! Those two take my breath away; they’re so young and in love.

The whole party looked radiantly happy, and ITA Dawn.

  10. LadySlippers says:

    •Kaiser•

The first thing I thought was dayum, the groom looks like Tietjens! Lol

I am not a fan on the bride’s dress. And the tent dress makes 80’s maternity fashion look good! Yuck!

  11. Amulla says:

I like this gown much better than those silly, strapless ballgown wedding dresses that have been in style for over 15 years now (unfortunately).

    • MediaB says:

..Disney princesses have a lot to answer for!

      • We Are All Made of Stars says:

Disney princesses are far too chaste and Disney princessey to wear strapless pushup cake dresses!

  12. LAK says:

I liked the dress better when she removed the skirt so that it was transformed into the short dress.

I like the blue Victoria Beckham dress.

    Don’t like Cara’s dress.

  13. eliza says:

I know the sister is prrgnant but that dress is positively monstrous!

  14. Miss M says:

Wasn’t Chloe second marriage earlier this year?

  15. sandra says:

the pregnant one holding a glass of wine/champagne is priceless

    • Aussie girl says:

I drank a glass of champas on Xmas day in my third trimester. Each to there own though. Back to the real crime though, that blue dress!!!! No & no!

      • Suze says:

Eh, I don’t care if someone sips a glass of champagne while pregnant. None of my business, and there are varying schools of thought on it anyway – it’s up to the mom to decide what to do.

What I find intriguing is that she has a “I don’t give a f*ck” attitude about being photographed doing so. Lots of women would not do that because pregnancy judgement is rampant.

I agree – the dress is the big crime here.

      • Tatjana says:

But how do you know it was an alcoholic beverage in that glass?

  16. FingerBinger says:

Poppy and Cara don’t even look like they’re related, let alone sisters.

  17. Lea says:

Such a pretty wedding 🙂 I love the wedding gown!

  18. Penny says:

As soon as I saw that VB dress on the runway I knew someone would be silly enough to think it would make great maternity wear.

I love it when brides just wear a favourite dress they’ve had in their closet for years. If you already have special gowns in your wardrobe why shell out for a boring white strapless number that won’t look half as good?

  19. serena says:

Hate her hairstyle and her other sister’s dress (Cara was beautiful thou).

  20. melain says:

From what I read here, it seems like Chloe is the kind of gal who doesn’t give an eff… get preggers by your husband’s best friend? Check. Wear a “funny” dress to sister’s wedding. Check. Hit the open bar. Check. Bad choices make good stories.

  21. LadyS says:

I agree about the groom looking like Cumby. That was the first thing I noticed. The wedding dress is OK. I like it on Poppy more than on Blake.

    • Sarah says:

Looks like a typical British toff. Which is of course how Cumby looks as well.

  22. Jen34 says:

I have never heard of Poppy before, but she is very, very pretty. That dress suits her. She and her guy look very happy.

  23. Lili says:

I think it’s perfectly fine to wear an old dress for your wedding. She must really love that dress, and I rather see a bride wearing something a little older which they adore, than something brand-new which makes them feel uncomfortable. The dress appears as a bit weird to me, though. I like the bottom part but not the top, and I think it’s a weird combination of see-through and more “proper” material. It’s not blended to perfection, just looks like they took two different dresses and sew them together.

  24. nicegirl says:

Totally Fab! Gorgeous gown, love it!

  25. Godwina says:

The bride’s dress is lovely, and her groom is one tall drink of water.

  26. lucy2 says:

I wouldn’t chose the dress for myself, but the bride looks happy, and if she loved it, great.

  27. gg says:

I can appreciate the classiness of this dress and the fact that she is not exposing half her flesh or pushing erogenous zones out of their casing, which is inappropriate for a bride. Why people want to look like strippers at their own wedding I have no understanding; this is the one time you DON’T want to look like a prossie.

  28. She looks different to me. DO you think she’s changed her face or something? Here she is in 2012
    http://www.stylebistro.com/lookbook/Poppy+Delevingne/Dncy2DZYyEx

  29. oce says:

That “Cumby look” is aka blue-blooded/inbred/aristocratic/peerage.

    • Lemonsorbet says:

Inbred maybe, but the groom is a brother of one of Miller’s friends, who claim they are middle class. Doesn’t that look remind anyone else of a capybara?

  30. Delta Juliet says:

Damn it what does one have to do to be considered a “muse”? It sounds really easy and I wish I had chosen that as my career choice instead of my stupid 8-5 job.

  31. jessica says:

    James Cook is quite Cumberpatchy..

  32. Kiara says:

She is sooo much prettier than Cara!!!!
I wish she was the model, Cara is cringe worthy, everything she does is an eye roll.
