Prince Harry does some royal work in Italy, doesn’t seem to be missing Cressida

wenn21365638

Prince Harry made an official visit to Italy this weekend and throughout the day Monday. He attended the memorial service/anniversary event for the 70th anniversary of the Battle of Monte Cassino during WWII. Tens of thousands of Allied troops died at Monte Cassino, and Harry was there to represent the British soldiers who lost their lives. He laid a wreath at the memorial. Then on Monday, he visited the Maxxi Museum in Rome. The photos of Harry in the suit are from Rome, and the pics of him in his dress whites are from the Monte Cassino memorial.

I hope everyone saw those photos of Cressida Bonas last week – go here to see. On Thursday night, she went out with her friend Princess Beatrice and Cressida got pap’d looking really beautiful. This is The Middleton Method – after a prince breaks up with you, you step out with his friends/relatives and you make sure that everyone sees you looking great. The hope (for Cressida) is that Harry misses her and when he sees photos of her, he’ll want to get back with her and all of her asinine drama.

Some UK papers are still plumped for Cressida and Harry – there are lots of completely unverified stories about Cressida and Harry reuniting in secret, or that he misses her and wants to meet up, or that now she’s ready to join The Firm. I don’t know. My new take on this situation is that Harry is over it. She was too much of a drama queen, and perhaps she was too young and not ready for a royal wedding and royal babies. If so, he did the right thing. A clean break, and on to finding Ms. Right.

I still say they are dunzo for good. On to the next blonde ; ).

She did look good at the nightclub – but what the heck was Bea wearing? Is she a sister wife now?

I’m not crazy about Harry’s blue suit here. He does charm on tours, though.

    • LadySlippers says:

I think he should get some snazzier suits. And better ties.

      • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

Oh, dahling, we could fix him up sew much better, could we not?

      • LadySlippers says:

Oh Dahling. Yes. *breathlessly* Yes we could.

And, I’ll try to be as delicate as possible. How was your weekend away at ‘the Spa’? Did you get all those nasty toxins out of your system?

        😉

      • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

Oh, yes, dahling, I was released, er, I came home feeling much more like myself. Sorry about the Mr. Bubble in your swimming pool, dahling, it seemed so funny at the time…

      • LadySlippers says:

        Superb!!!

And no worries. It happens to the best of us.

What’s today’s schedule like? Can we do lunch or just a cocktail? I’m sure you have loads of gossip to spill from The Spa!

      • Liberty says:

Um, I hear you, as in I “hear” you, but honestly, my dear, he can’t really do all these serious functions in a tight oiled leather suit with no shirt with a tie around his ankle for later.

        Some functions, but not ALL.

      • Dame Snarkweek says:

        Liberty
An Hermes tie goes from day to night, don’t you know.
        LadyS/Gnatty
*sigh* Just both of you please stay at the club long enough for Dieter to scrub the pool. He can never concentrate with the two of you around. Honestly.

      • LadySlippers says:

        •SnarkyPoo•

Dieter? Dieter? Seriously, GoodNames likes her pool boys between the ages of 18-25 AND they are all Georgs… Or Greggers… *thoughtfully* Or…. Anyhoo, I can never remember their names (she goes through them at the MOST alarming rate) but she has THE most ingenious naming method.

I however, prefer hipster boys with a pretentious air about them. It makes for the most amusing…conversations.

        *drains mimosa*

        •Madame Liberté!•

        *cocks head to one side*

Pray tell, why not? The only work he should be doing is maintenance on me. He likes to garden, I am a flower. Comprendez vous?

        Mimosas SnarkyPoo & Liberté?

*pours two glasses without waiting for an answer*

    • blue marie says:

I judge his clothes by “would I still hit it” and the answer here is yes, so while not great, he’s fine.

      • LadySlippers says:

Agreed. But those clothes need to go.

(We’ll start with on my floor and then they’ll need to be donated and new ones ordered)

    • LadySlippers says:

I think they are done too.

  2. Sixer says:

My grandfather fought at Monte Cassino.

    • LadySlippers says:

Really? Wow. Does/Did he ever share stories?

      *ETA*

Always thankful of the men and women that willingly stepped up to the plate to fight for freedom.

    • Sixer says:

He died a long time ago (but in old age). Not many stories. I think it was too horrendous. He did say that the shelling at Monte Cassino almost sent him mad – done as much for psychological reasons as the damage it would cause. Shelling always began at shift changeovers when soldiers were trying to get off to sleep or at mess time, when they were trying to eat.

He joined up in 1939, despite already having 5 children (with another three, including my mum, to follow after the war), being too old for draft, and working in an occupation that meant he wasn’t eligible for draft. Imagine that. My grandmother always used to say that it took until 1946 (when he finally got home) to forgive him! He was a desert rat before Italy.

      • LadySlippers says:

Wow! He really DID step up to the plate!

My knowledge on specific WWII battles is very very very rusty. My son, who just recently completed his two IB history classes (one with a history teacher nuts about WWII) knows way more than I do.

Psychological warfare is just yucky. I get why they do it — doesn’t make me like it any better.

      • Suze says:

People like your grandfather make me realize how little I’ve accomplished in life.

He sounds like a great man.

      • Liberty says:

wow. impressive!! I stayed at a villa at the edge of Florence for a meeting thing once and the owner/manager would sit in the walled garden with the oldie neighborhood guys in the evening, drinking wine, eating, talking about those years, apparently one had been there — horrific. Your grandfather was heroic.

    • Ronia says:

I also have male relatives from different branches of our family who fought there. Only one survived of all.

  3. Anna says:

This week everyone worked – QEII, Charles, Cam, Will, Harry – but Kate. My goodwill for her is gone.

    • blue marie says:

stacking those swatches is hard work

    • CuriousCole says:

+1 Anna. Charles and Camilla are doing 41 engagements in just three days! I don’t think Will and Kate managed that number in three weeks.

Blue – thank you for the LOL.

  4. Jegede says:

He’s doing good work but I wish he would trim/cut the sides of his hair.

It would make the thinning less obvious.

like William he looks more delish with facial hair! IMO

    • LadySlippers says:

I’m amazed that the Brits allow for this length. In the US — his hair is way too long.

      • JulieM says:

LS: I spent 8 years in the US Navy and I cringe every time I see Harry (or William in the past) in uniform. Hair way too long; non regulation jewelry showing, etc. I’m referring to a bracelet Harry wears in uniform. Very different grooming standards.

That said, Harry looks terrific in uniform. It’s the grooming that bothers me.

      • LadySlippers says:

        •JulieM•

My ex-husband was Navy AND super duper anal about grooming standards and uniforms. Just to paint the picture of how particular he was with grooming & uniforms. Back when blue shirts still wore dungarees — I’d have to mail him new ones because if they looked just a *tad* worn — he’d chuck them. No joke. Lol. And let’s not even go talk about ironing (I failed miserably at it!!!).

Plus, while he was studying for his chief’s exam, I’d go over all the non-class stuff with him. So I know way more than I want too about grooming (hair must be tapered at the back etc.).

I love love love the fact the British military allows them to wear beards. But their hair just makes me want to march them down to a barber. Lol

And have you ever seen the uniforms the Brits allow? When we were stationed at NOB, a British ship had to pull in to get more money as they had literally run out. They were stuck in Norfolk for a week and were mercilessly teased because they came in in a shorts/long socks/open toed sandals combo. NOT sexy! Lol But they were so awesome as they gave as good as they got! 😉

Can’t say the same for the humourless NATO officers though…. Apparently none of them packed their sense of humour when crossing the pond.

    • Lucrezia says:

If you think this is too long, you must not have seen the photos of Harry when he came back from deployment in Afghanistan … http://img2-2.timeinc.net/people/i/2008/news/080317/prince_harry2180.jpg
      Now THAT was a mop.

The British forces don’t have specific hair length regulations (just vague statements like “neatly groomed”), so the decision on what is acceptable is up to the regiment commander. Too short (like the number 1 buzz cut given to US recruits) is actually more likely to offend than Harry’s mop … no skinheads allowed.

      • LadySlippers says:

        •Lucrezia•

I did see it but circumstances makes it a touch more acceptable to be a little shaggier than what is allowed. But yeah… He was pretty shaggy.

        Lol

  5. Hope says:

Man, Harry is just getting better with age. Whew! Guess I don’t need that second cup of coffee 🙂

  6. Teresa_Maria says:

Harry was in my home-country and in my home town last week to meet our troops and taking part in a major Nato training exercise during his visit.
He also met with “regular folks” who came out to greet him and he was so charming in person!
I fell in love with him all over again, so I can’t be bothered about Cressida:)

  7. PHD Gossip says:

Cressida forgot to smile on her night out for the Paps. She looked sad and forlorn in every photo. She forgot the Middleton lesson of “smile. Smile. Smile.”

    • Juliette says:

True. But damnnnn if Cressida didn’t turn up the heat. She was a knockout that night, she knew what she was doing with that blue dress. Its especially notable because her usual style is so fugly.

  8. Loopy says:

Harry does seem to alot more royal work than his brother and sister-in-law. Are the rest of the royal kids expected to do anything eg Princess Beatrice and Eugine?

    • LAK says:

They have regular jobs, but they still do engagements from time to time and have patronages. They rarely receive any media coverage when they support their patronages or engagements which is why they don’t appear to be doing anything.

Eg The charity event where Cressida ‘officially’ came out as Harry’s girlfriend was for B’s charity that she co-founded.

  9. A:) old prude says:

I really really hope Harry is smarter then William to fall for this look what he’s missing pr crap that Cressida is playing right now. IMO William made a mistake by going back to Kate , before the break up they used to look happy but post break up Kate looks like a love stuck puppy looking for approval and he is well annoyed and bored around her when there isn’t something fun to do or booze. William comes across way more damaged to me and hence got played very easily IMO. I don’t Harry is like that, he seems to have more emotional integrity and a stronger, more confident character, so I hope he sticks to his guts and don’t get played like his brother.

PS before all everyone starts commenting, yes despite what I wrote I do think William loves Kate but he settled for her big time and got manipulated by his new mummy Carole who played into his loss of his mother.

    • Juliette says:

I agree with you. I think William is more damaged by his mother’s death, and there is no doubt in my mind that Kate & Carole would not be in the picture were Diana still alive. William wouldn’t have needed the same reassurances, the same motherly comfort from Kate/Carole, if his mother were there to give it to him.

    • AM says:

I think Diana’s death is the sliding doors moment of William’s life. If she had lived, I don’t even know that he would have attended St. Andrews. I definitely think he wouldn’t be married to Kate, whether because he wouldn’t have been looking for a Kate or because Diana would have checked her and Carole at the door.

Weirdly, I think Harry’s life path would basically be the same.

  10. Allie says:

If they really are over for good, I’ll be so happy. If I had to read one more article about how independent she is and how much Harry loves her, I would scream.

Maybe now Cressy can go back to that amazing dance career she gave up for Harry.

  11. jwoolman says:

What exactly is the acceptable period of mourning before one is allowed to go out in public after breaking up with a royal?!? What exactly are you all expecting of her? Or is she doomed to a damned if she does, damned if she doesn’t situation?

I really don’t know why anybody would even risk a date with Harry after seeing how she’s being trashed. He should just ask the Queen to make an arranged marriage for him and be done with it.

    • mena says:

For me, as a celebrity watcher, I think a wannabe royal girlfriend should not behave in a way more common to wannabe D-listers.

If Cressida truly hated the tabloid attention – like her brother claims – then I think she would have behaved discretely & not sought out a high profile club with a known paparazzi presence while aping exaggerated poses for them.

Contradicting her own PR makes her look phony. Like so many other famewhores who say they hate the attention. Doth protesting too much & all that.

I agree that any girl who dates Harry will have a rough time with the media but IMO Cressida makes it harder on herself with her tabloid games.

  12. Ronia says:

Cressida is nothing more than any royal mistress in previous centuries. Such were coming and going regularly, some of them more successful, others less. A usual thing for any prince of the blood, no big deal, comes with the birth into the family. LOL

  13. Talia says:

You see, I find it funny that it’s obviously her camp putting out all of these “cressida is showing harry what he’s missing” stories, and all of these articles about a reconciliation at KP… Yet these stories broke while harry was in Estonia/Italy, so when exactly was she meant to have been at his place?

I feel like her family are calling the paps and feeding the tabloids in a bid to keep her relevant… Purely because they might want to keep the “royal wedding” rumours afloat, so people will still regard Cressida as important.
I’m wondering when her fifteen minutes will be up? Because I’m really sick of her.

Intuition and instinct are two incredibly powerful tools, and I can tell you that neither of mine can see these two getting married.
Harry needs to find a woman who is discreet, willing to take on the royal lifestyle and who loves him unconditionally. Not some immature boho blonde, who can’t decide what she wants and whose family have the media on speed-dial.

  14. Flower says:

Not just official work in Italy but also Estonia a few days before. Harry loves royal work but the Katwilly’s just go through the motions.

  15. d says:

I think you’d need a bit of mental toughness to marry into the royal family and I think Prince Harry is wasting his time with all these society, aristocratic ladies. I can see him be happy with a woman who has also served in the Royal military, maybe another helicopter pilot? For some reason, it seems like a woman with military background would be a better match for him over the long haul, rather than these other women, who just don’t seem to have a lot of depth, nor stamina to really do a good job of carrying out their royal duties. So who better than someone with military service?

  16. alex says:

harry needs a woman of substance, and cressida is NOT YOUNG, but she behaves like a teen, i hope he is not weak like his brother who ended up with that good for nothing, doormat aka mattress, embarrassing creature,
