THR had an excellent story yesterday about how Angelina Jolie was headed to China for her first-ever promotional leg in that country. Angelina often makes stops in Asia for her promotional tours, but for this Maleficent tour, Angelina has stopped in Shanghai for the first time. Apparently, Brad Pitt was scheduled to come with Angelina (according to THR), which is also a new thing – Brad has been banned from traveling to China for years following his appearance in Seven Years in Tibet. There was some talk of China softening on Brad enough to allow World War Z to officially come to China, but it didn’t happen.
So, these are some pics from today’s photocall in Shanghai, where Angelina was basically just standing on a balcony, looking fabulous in this black Michael Kors. The Mail says that her heels were custom-made Louboutins, this time a gold pair. They gave her an early birthday cake too! She turns 39 tomorrow. She looks great, doesn’t she?
Maleficent will be released in China on June 20th. Which is also World Refugee Day, just FYI.

I’m with you — do not like the shoes. They look kinda plastic & cheap. Other than that, her outfit is pretty nondescript, like most of her clothing. Her face, as usual, looks good.

I have a friend who actually saw her at an airport once, in the flesh, and he said that the movies and the magazines do not even give you a hint as to how insanely gorgeous she really looks in real life. I think she knows she has strong looks so she keeps her style simple. Also she’s got six kids (yes and she does have help) and a whole bunch of causes so I doubt she spends much time on fashion stuff. I think she’s probably bored by fashion (in contrast to people like Blake Lively who seem to spend all their time on it) but I like her simple, basic style, which she keeps to on and off the red carpet / formal and casual occasions.
I liked the so-called garbage bag dress much better. Angie is a goddess- sadly this dress is bland and Forever 21- ish. She deserves better.
Is Angelina in Michael Kors a deliberate ‘every woman-ization’ of Jolie?
If I remember correctly she used to wear very high end designers whereas is Kors is a bit mallish, in my opinion.
What are you talking about? She’s been wearing Kors for a long time. Kors himself mentioned Jolie is one of his favorites to dress up. And besides, I don’t think Jolie really cares if she wears high or low end. She wore a freakin’ thrifted dress in one of her premieres back then.
Didn’t Goop recently collaborated with Kors? If Goop approves it, then it must still be considered high end. Lol.

By the way can we talk about how she got rid of her forehead wrinkles without botox?! What treatment has she been using? Her forehead is completely smooth but she can still move it easily. Yet she still has fine lines around her eyes….but then again, the eye area is the most delicate.

Don’t love the dress, but don’t hate it, either. I think the sleeves bother me. The shoes also-the the sheer part is annyoing. I love the design of them aside from that. She looks like she is having fun, but maybe afraid to get to close to that cake.
I don’t know what gets rid of wrinkles, without botox (she’s always had that giant forehead vein that gets big when she’s excited or laughing)….maybe lasers?–whatever she’s done, it looks natural. I like that she hasn’t screwed up her eyes–getting rid of forehead wrinkles is okay in my book–but when you start screwing around with your eye wrinkles, then that’s where things can get messed up. I’d rather look old as dirt, than for someone to look at me and say ‘Damn, she paid for that face?!”…
I haven’t seen her forehead (or forehead movements) lately, so I don’t know, but the way her eyebrows are moving in the 2014 photos – this is also possible with botox. You “just” have to keep the injections in the middle of the foreheard, so that you can still move your face muscles on the side. It takes a skilled person to place the injections and you mustn’t go overboard with it. People have always Nicole Kidman in mind with botox, but she is rather extreme. It’s like thinking of breast augmentation and typical 90s Pamela Anderson, whereas quite a lot of boob jobs nowadays look way more natural.
Also if you have regular botox injections your skin smoothes out and when you stop them afterwards you still have smoother skin while having your face muscle mobility back.
She looks beautiful and I’m very happy for her that the audiences have mostly been loving her movie.

She looks absolutely beautiful here, but she makes the same fashion mistake Duchess Kate always does. Both women have wide upper bodies and very narrow lower bodies, but they always go for clothes that make their upper bodies look even wider.
This Kors dress is great for pear shapes who want to balance out their lower body. The Versace she wore to the LA premiere was a waste of a good garbage bag, but for once the basic silhouette was perfect for her, it gave her a waist and hips to match her shoulders and bust.

I like the dress, and while the idea of the shoes they did for this press tour is interesting, I just never think they look quite right. I think it’s the transparent sides, it looks very odd to me.

I always kind of forget how old she is, too. it’s like, she’s clearly aged from her Hackers days, you can see her face is much fuller back then, but since then…it’s like she’s frozen in time. sometimes I think she’s older than 39 because she’s “older than her years”…she’s been doing the humanitarian thing since her early/mid 20s, so she “grew up” before a lot of other hollywood starlets. but she doesn’t LOOK older than 39. she actually looks younger because of her “dewy” skin.

i believe they have let him into the country, i think he’s just trying to stay quiet and fly under the radar and that’s why there’s no photos. jolie mentioned him being there with the kids in another interview.

It will be interesting to see how Maleficent performs in China. At the moment X-Men practically runs the business, per boxoffice mojo it’s got 80s M, a huge number and way, way, way ahead in any other country (including India, a land of more than 1 billion movie buffs). But of course, the X-Men features China’s very own hugely popular actress Fan Bingbing.
She’s absolutely beautiful inside and out, I obviously don’t know her, but all of her good works speaks tons about character. Happy B-day Angelina!
