Prince Harry loved his trip to Chile, wanted to bring a Chilean baby home with him

Prince Harry was in Brazil for four days last week, then he moved on to Chile to make some additional royal appearances. He met Chile’s president at the Moneda Presidential Palace, he visited the Integra Foundation and he played with lots and lots of kids. I imagine that’s built into his schedule every time he’s overseas – he insists on doing events where he gets to play with kids. He also got a marriage proposal from a woman named Bernardita Middleton. She approached him a few times, and he handled the situation with aplomb. My favorite detail? When he was playing with kids at the Sagrada Familia kindergarten, he encountered an 8-month-old baby and he said, “Who does this little one one belong to?… Otherwise I’ll take him home.” Aw.

Here’s another favorite detail – he spoke to journalists in Chile and he was asked about his nephew, Prince George. This is what happened:

Oh, Uncle Harry! While touring Chile, Prince Harry was questioned about his baby nephew Prince George—Us Weekly’s Omid Scobie is one of the journalists touring South America with the royal. The 11-month-old son of Prince William and Kate Middleton has made some big strides in his first year, and his uncle has noticed. Harry spoke to Virginia Araya, a presenter on the national radio station Infinita, on Friday, June 27, about the third in line to the throne.

“I asked him what George was like,” she told Us Weekly. “He said, ‘He’s growing up. He is walking, and he has big, chubby cheeks. He looks like a young Winston Churchill.”

The former British prime minister was one of the most noted political leaders of the 20th Century, but he wasn’t known for his looks so Prince George’s parents might not take Harry’s joke as a compliment. The British royal is currently touring Brazil and Chile, and addressed the crowd at the British Ambassador’s Residence in Santiago on Friday.

“Chile has a fascinating history and an amazing social and geographical variety. Both my father and brother have spent time here and have told me many wonderful stories; not surprisingly, it is a country that I have wanted to visit for some time,” Harry said in his speech. “I am very grateful for the warm welcome I have received since arriving last night. It is great to see such strong ongoing relations between our two countries.”

[From Us Weekly]

To be fair, most babies look like young Winston Churchill. It’s true! But really, Prince George is a dead ringer for Prince William at that age. I know we teased Kate about how she flirted with Harry and how George is a little bit ginger, but that baby looks just like William. And I think that Harry doesn’t spend that much time with his nephew… right now. Uncle Harry will spend more time with George when he gets old enough to rough-house and ride a horse though.

I love seeing pics of him with kids. It makes my ovaries happy 🙂

Honestly, I know that the royal woman are supposed to be the ones who are absolute naturals with kids – certainly Kate fans believe she is “so good with children” – but Harry is by far and away the most very best royal to send out on a kid event. He’ s such a big kiddo himself.

Prince Ginger is terrific Uncle material.

Love these photos, especially the ones of him with kids.

Love him. That’s all I’ve got.

Look at his face. It’s real for him-he loves it. He reminds so much of his mum in this way. SO nice.

We always talk about Harry and Diana, and I think in this case it’s just one big YES. One of the things that made her remarkable was that no matter where she was in the world, no matter what ailment children were facing (be it missing limbs, disabilities, leprosy, AIDS, etc), she would scoop them up in her arms for a good cuddle without a second thought – no different than the two fair princes she had at home. This wasn’t something royalty was doing at the time, and if it seems less significant today,it’s because of the work of people like Diana.

Harry seems to love children in this same way, without hesitation or concern about the photo op. I think it’s just a quality you have or you don’t, and it’s lovely to see.

I love that he just works, no whining or anything, and he doesn’t have to have a team of PR people standing by to play up every single thing he does to make it seem like his schedule is super duper full. He just does things, no huge fanfare, and he likes doing it.

Honestly, I cannot see William ever being King anyway. He is the worst. Harry would be wonderful.

I don’t think William is going to be king too. I really believe that he is republican.

The first para is one of the things I like most about him, no whining, no pr crap reports of how he plans on doing things in near future and that near future just never comes and so on. He just gets on with things even though I think he can do a lot more then what he is doing right now especially at home.

He is the potrait of Charles!

  7. Kkhou says:

We actually call it the “Winston Churchill phase” in my family, when babies are plump, chubby cheeked and bald.

    • AM says:

There’s a Grace Kelly interview on YouTube where she talks about Churchill visiting Monaco when her two elder children were very young. She said she had a moment where she worried that her children would never get to meet Churchill, so she ran and rounded them up from the nursery and presented them to Churchill, saying about Albert, “They say all babies look like Gandhi or Churchill, and we have the Churchill type!”

  8. LAK says:

…except in that he really is related to Churchill!!!

  9. the.princess.leia says:

My favourite detail is that the woman who proposed to him has the last name Middleton! If that was my last name I think I would change it because Middleton equals lazy, waity, sausage curls as far as royalty goes.

    • Enny says:

I know, right? Is it a coincidence that the crazy stalker lady, who was propositioning Prince Harry in a transparent attempt to marry a prince, is named Middleton?

  10. Mel M says:

Love him and this. I saw more pics over the weeknd of him with children and disabled children and you can just see that he absolutely loves being with them. He’s awesome.

  11. The Original Mia says:

There are loads of pictures of him with kids. He’s so engaged with them. There’s an adorable one of a little girl hugging and kissing him. So sweet!

This tour was a great success. There was a nice mix of formal and informal events and Harry handled all with that special Diana touch.

    • A:) old prude says:

And did you notice no days off for him, he left right after playing polo and started working straight after landing, no sight seeing, no glamping, no wine tasting for him. He also didn’t booked the entire business class for his travel, instead he flew coach as reported by royal reporters. He never overspends like his brother and SIL while traveling on behalf of his country. The total cost of his last year tour to USA ?(which lasted few days) was only 10,000 dollars including all his staff etc everyone because he travels very cheaply when working.

All the events in his tour are either formal, government receptions or related to UK directly or visits to various charities and that’s why this isn’t called a vacation by me.

      • The Original Mia says:

I did notice. This wasn’t a vacation. It was work, duty, but still felt more humanizing due to Harry’s ability to put everyone at ease.

    • LAK says:

The little girl kissing him is my favourite picture. Apparently she gave him all her toys, one at a time before going over to plant the kiss on him. 🙂

  12. Sparkly says:

The more I hear about him lately, the more I like him. Such a vast difference between him and William. It’s a shame. But Harry does seem very genuine. I can’t blame chick for trying. I would totally marry him and have all the Chilean babies he wanted.

  13. Stephanie says:

Harry is so good with children. Of all the pics @A:) Old Rude posted not one was disengaged. I think CB covered his mother’s day stop at the white house. In the video not one moment was he caught with his mind wandering. He seems to truly enjoy the work. I’m wondering if he has more say in the engagements he does than Will. Maybe Will doesn’t get to work with his passions and thats why he comes off as sulky?

  14. Emily C. says:

Are we sure he’s actually related to Will in any way? Really sure sure? I’m not even talking about Diana having an affair; I’m thinking Harry’s a changeling. Or maybe some kind of genetic experiment using his grandmother’s DNA and that of a nice redhead.
