Piper Perabo’s unconventional wedding dress & yellow veil: cute or terrible?

piper wedding

This is the formal wedding portrait that Piper Perabo released after her weekend wedding in New York (which was New Orleans-themed). I quite like that she went this route – too many starlets/actresses go the “super-private California resort wedding,” and it’s nice to see a good old fashion NOLA-type wedding with a band walking along the street with the wedding party. It’s nice. You can see more photos from Piper’s wedding here.

Piper married director-producer Stephen Kay, who works on Covert Affairs with her. They got engaged last September and they managed to keep everything low-key. Piper gets some shade for Covert Affairs, but I kind of like that she’s found a home in TV and I wish her well. Congrats to her!

As for the dress… CB and I were trying to figure it out and CB said “I think J.Lo wore it” and I was going to go with that, but then CB (who is BOSS about designer IDs) figured out that the dress is a Michael Kors gown previously worn by Naomi Campbell – go here to see. I don’t think the dress is very wedding-y, but I do like it when brides do something unconventional. For me, the worst part is the yellow veil. That just looks kind of gross.

Anyway, congrats to Piper and Stephen Kay!

What the heck is the groom wearing??? They both look like they bought their wedding attire at Goodwill…

    • FLORC says:

It fits the theme nicely. They went the complete package. NOLA all the way. That style isn’t for everyone

    • Miffy says:

I love it! I even dig the yellow veil, although compared to the Daily Fail shots, the vibrancy of the yellow veil looks shopped but still!

    • starrywonder says:

Heh. I have to give them kudos for going out of the box but definitely not my cup of tea.

    • Mitch Buchanan Rocks! says:

and the wedding veil looks like it could have been snow white at one time and sat in a room where people chain smoked for 50 years or so.

  2. Seapharris7 says:

I like her, so I can forgive her bad fashion choices. I wish them the best!

  3. Sue says:

It looks like they wore what they wanted too, and look extremely happy with it! Congrats!

  4. Abbott says:

But was there bar dancing to Def Leppard?

  5. eliza says:

In the header photo she resembles the late Peaches Geldof.

Their wedding attire is not my thing but if they liked it and felt good in it, more power to them.

For me, the veil is just awful. It looks like a cat peed all over it.

    • Willa says:

I thought it was Peaches too.

    • Dinah says:

I dropped in to say the veil looked urine-soaked, too. Ick.

    • MaiGirl says:

I’m fine with the dress (though it isn’t my favorite) but why not a silver veil to match? I get that yellow was one of her wedding colors, but a silver veil would have been lovely.

  6. Maria says:

She looks really happy, good for her.

  7. Belle Epoch says:

TERRIBLE dress and veil is worse, but the outfit suits the spectacle. She can wear whatever she wants – just don’t whine when others don’t like it as much as you do!

    • FLORC says:

Has she whined about that before? Her style has always been really quirky and she hasn’t always been well received, but i’ve never read or heard her complaining about that.

  8. Kali says:

You know it’s true love when the woman can look at the man wearing a d0uche tag (aka soul patch aka flavour saver) and still look that happy 😉 in all seriousness though, many happy returns to the new couple 😄

    • Frida_K says:

It looks like a small rodent died on his chin.

Yes, being able to smile at that is evidence of true love.

      😀

  9. J says:

Her fashion has always been off beat so I think this dress fits her. I am more focused on the fact that the girl from Coyote Ugly married Reginald from “General Hospital”, that is blowing my teenage mind a bit.

    • bella says:

she looks lovely – she is wearing the dress and not the other way around.
and they both look so comfortable.
none of it, surprisingly, looks contrived, so more power to them!
      i LOVE the veil…love it.
AND>>>>wasn’t he one time teri hatcher’s longtime love???

  10. Greata says:

I like the dress…the veil not so much. Most importantly, she looks beautiful and happy!!!!! Consolation…its not some hideous Marchesa.

  11. GoodNamesAllTaken says:

Not my favorite, but she looks like she feels beautiful and is having fun, so good for her. That’s what it’s all about.

    • Christin says:

My thoughts exactly. It’s the couple’s day.

I don’t see her doing pap walks every day, and they apparently kept the engagement low key. Good for them.

    • Nicolette says:

Yes. Not your typical wedding attire for sure, but it was how they chose to express themselves and they look extremely happy. That’s all that matters at the end of the day.

      • Miffy says:

At least they chose to express themselves rather than go with something more traditional and not personal at all. All for expressing yourself and being happy when it comes to a big day like a wedding.

  12. minime says:

I think she looks great! I don’t fancy the dress on its own, but it seems like she feels comfortable on it and actually looks quite good on her. I always find it strange when people go for a wedding look that is completely opposite to their persona, just to fit in what is expected for that day…

  13. TG says:

I think the photo is cute except for the grooms attire. He wore head to toe denim to his wedding? Really? Also wondering if a guy being a “director” is the male equivelant of all Hollywood girlfriends being “models”. I don’t know maybe he is legit but it seems all these starlets marry directors and producers that know one has ever heard of.

    • Bridget says:

Seeing as he’s a director-producer on the show she works on (and that’s how they met), it’s not just a vanity tag.

  14. Ag says:

i like the dress (his suit – yikes!), and they look super happy. which is what counts. 🙂

  15. Sonia says:

I love it! Cue to Leanne Rimes renewing her vows to Eddie again, this time in yellow…

    • Christin says:

I had a similar thought. Only I was thinking it might be for her next wedding. But they’ll probably try a vow renewal to save their show.

  16. Allie says:

Close your mouth! There’s nothing that boils my blood more than that stupid pose actresses/models do to try and look sexy.

    • Josephine says:

Yeah, cause you shouldn’t laugh and have fun at your wedding. Yeesh, she looks like she’s laughing hard. It’s not a posed pic.

      • Allie says:

Ummmm not talking about the wedding pic. More like the header for this story. On the red carpet. Like I said in my first comment.

      • Isa says:

I agree with you. It doesn’t look sexy it makes them look stupid.

  17. Kiddo says:

It’s all visually interesting. I kinda like the whole thing.

  18. msw says:

A different shade of yellow, one that actually matched the dress, would have been better… But like everyone else this morning, as long as she liked it, good for her. I love a nice pale yellow, just not this color.

  19. Adrien says:

As long as they are happy. They look happy.

  20. Shelley says:

I am more concerned about that horrible denim ensemble her husband is wearing!!

  21. FLORC says:

Love the theme and love the dress/veil. It’s not my style, but that isn’t my wedding. This is 1 of the reasons why I eloped. Someone will trash the food, location, dress, or whatever else. You throw a huge party for friends and family to celebrate a day with you and they might be making bets on how long it lasts or criticizing the ceremony/reception.

And what shade did Piper get over Covert Affairs? It’s a show I watch if I remember it’s on or old episodes on demand.

    • minime says:

I had to smile at your comment. One of the reasons why I have always been very undecided on doing a wedding celebration is because guests always find something to complain or criticize and seriously I have no patience for people whining on food details in what should be a great moment to be with friends and have fun. The last two weddings I attended were a good poster to not do it. In one, a family member complained to everyone that could hear that the bride and groom were very impolite for not serving desserts. Mind you that they had already informed that there was a room only with desserts and that they were just making a pause from the 2-3h serving stream of 3 dishes and wedding cake…while keeping an open bar available. This family member just left during that pause (bitching around) because he was upset for not having more desserts immediately available. In the other wedding, one friend of the bride went to her in the middle of the dinner to tell her that the rice was not well cooked and was certainly spoiled. The bride just started to freak out and asking everyone if everything was ok and she could not chill anymore (the rice was ok, just cooked in a more gourmet way than the usual). I would love that in wedding invitations people could add “If you come to evaluate the service, lavish on the food and criticize my dressing option for the day, please stay at home. If you come to genuinely celebrate and have fun, be welcome.”

  22. pnichols says:

    Good for them! That’s awesome!

  23. raindrop says:

They both look like they’re having a blast, which automatically makes what they’re wearing look 10x better than it otherwise might.

  24. Suzy from Ontario says:

It’s not for everyone, but it seems to suit them and they looked happy. I think she looks beautiful and different, but in a good way, a unique, fresh way. It seems to suit the theme they were going for. I love the coloured veil! Just get a good vibe from the pic above. It seems like a happy celebration.

  25. Jenny12 says:

I don’t like the fashion, but they seem really happy and to be having fun, so God bless.

  26. Marianne says:

She’s kind of kooky so I think it works for her. I agree that the yellow veil doesn’t really go with the dress, though.

  27. Savanna says:

If you click on the Mail’s photos, her makeup is AMAZING. Minimal and natural and glowy. She looks gorgeous!

I really have no opinion on the dress/veil, good for her for doing something different.

  28. Sumodo1 says:

(*gah*) I have now seen an actual denim tuxedo.

  29. Decloo says:

It was nice of that hobo to get up off the street and accompany her along the sidewalk. Maybe she promised him some Colt 45.

  30. kri says:

Not my style at all. That shade of yellow grosses me out. But they look happy-they have real smiles, faces that actually move and happy people around them. So that makes it awesome. Congratulations, guys!

  31. Reece says:

I like it. It’s different. Although I like the bridesmaid dress a bit more. They look very happy so congrats to them.

  32. Nibbi says:

i think the dress and veil are fun. Crazy, but let’s be honest- after Kim K’s endless white/cream/ivory wedding(s) froth, don’t we need something new ? 😉

  33. I actually like all of her outfit, but he just looks a mess.

  34. Pepsi Presents...Coke says:

Pretty sure this is a Katy Perry number, too.

  35. Dancinnancy says:

It isn’t to my taste, but she looks radiant and they look happy – so well done for owning it.

I was never a fan of hers, but Covert Affairs has become must see summer tv for me.

  36. Carrie says:

She looked beautiful, I love it when brides do something unexpected. My wedding is next summer and since its my second marriage but first real wedding, I want to do something special.

  37. Nila says:

…..but why did they not get married in NOLA?????

  38. ravencurls says:

I like the look and they look joyful. Good luck to them!
Off topic, but — Is Piper Perabo the woman LeAnn Rimes appears to be trying to copy via plastic surgery? I watch Covert Affairs and am often stunned by how recent photos of Rimes are so close to the look of Piper Perabo. I know there are several connections between the two women and I wonder if LeAnn’s swf act is really directed at Piper Perabo.

  39. mar says:

she has never been conventional. She is very unique.

  40. Godwina says:

    I love her get-up. It’s pretty fab.

Still, doesn’t matter how “original” anyone thinks their wedding is. They’re all so similar in so many ways. I learned this from watching TLC, yo. Contrivance, ugh.

  41. Babe says:

If you look at the photos in the link, the veil is interesting because it almost matches her hair color. It looks like a more creative & whimsical version of hair extensions. I like it, although I don’t have the fashion gall to try it myself.

  42. I’m in the small camp that actually likes the yellow veil…maybe a different shade but I kind of love the idea of untraditional dashes of colour. Then again I’ve made my own veil and it’s bright blue.

  43. luna says:

Sorry for being dumb but what is NOLA? Tried google but no answer came up!

  44. Francis says:

Love the wedding dress and the veil.
I like the glitz of the dress.

  45. SamiHami says:

Not my style, but with very few exceptions, I think all brides are beautiful on their wedding day.
