Sean Bean has a new TV show on TNT. I keep seeing ads for it, especially during Major Crimes. The show is called Legends, and he plays a FBI agent and the “legends” of the title refers to the backstories covert spies and intelligence officers are given while undercover. Like, a CIA agent would pose as a wealthy arms dealer and he would be given a “legend,” a backstory of information pertaining to the cover “character” he’s playing in real life. I have to say, it looks pretty good. I’m probably going to watch a few episodes and see if the writing is any good.
Anyway, Sean has been in NYC this week to promote the show. These are pics from yesterday, and Sean’s hair looks… odd. I hope to God that’s just a bad dye job and not a toupee. So, he’s in NYC and people keep asking him about Game of Thrones and the fact that he dies in pretty much every film and TV show he does. Sean recently spoke to Vulture about GoT and whether he would come back for some flashbacks (Bean said he would love to), and in that interview, Bean bluntly stated that he never believed that he was Jon Snow’s father. Well, he was asked about that issue by HuffPo (go here to see the video) and this is what he said:
“I’m very much doubting that he’s my son … I’ve got my suspicions… [but] I brought him up, I spent all those years looking after him.”
HuffPo also asked about all of his many, many screen deaths and whether he had a favorite on-screen death of all time. My favorite? Probably Patriot Games. But Sean’s favorite is Boromir’s death in Lord of the Rings:
“The death of Boromir was a memorable one for me. The way Peter Jackson shot it, with the music and the photography, it was a very long, heroic death. … That was my favorite one.”
I did see that one and I remember his death scene. It was really drawn out and I felt like we were supposed to geek out on how this major character was dying… but I didn’t really feel anything. I guess I’m just not into the LOTR culture. That being said, I flat-out cried when Ned Stark died.

Looks like he stole Clay Aiken’s wig.
nope, I think its Nic Cage’s wig.
I guess I am a stupid, LOTR , Peter Jackson fangirl geek because that death scene in LOTR made me cry and I am not a crier.
I really like him as an actor and really liked him on GOT.
I bawled. Finally seeing it after the book and just knowing he wasn’t a bad guy just driven and he’s going out kind of killed me on my couch.
I’m a crier and I totally cried when Boromir died. I liked LOTR but I wouldn’t say I geeked out over them.
Oddly, I’m a total GoT (the show) geek and while I was shocked when Ned Stark died, I didn’t cry.
I love Sean Bean. I wish he didn’t have such problems with alcohol.
Same here, I wish he did not have troubles with alcohol. I think he is a good actor and i love watching him on screen
His Reddit was hilarious, especially when he’d go on about food.
Both Boromir and Ned Stark’s deaths made me cry. I will be watching Legends
I’ve loved him since Patriot Games – it was a long time before I figured out he wasn’t Irish.
“My brother…my captain…my King.”
That scene gets me every time.
I don’t watch GoT, though, so I wouldn’t know if it’s better than LotR, but most things aren’t, imo.
Urgh yeah… I’m not a crier either but the last arrow hitting him in the chest and the blood from his mouth as he speaks those words… ;–;
I’m a huge Tolkien fan and a book firster but the way Jackson and his team, and of course Bean, did this scene just brought me to tears and made me forget the books. An amazing and very strong scene, one of the strongest in the trilogy, IMO.
Maybe I overrate that scene because I was such a big fan of the books, but I really think that Sean and Viggo knocked it out of the park. Great movie scene – even Orlando actually tried to “act” and I actually bought that Legolas was moved/sad.
Best bromance ever! I love Legolas. He’s just so darn….pretty
Bean dying in LOTR was far more emotional than him dying in Games. It took such a long time and those damn arrows just kept going in. But he never stop fighting for the Hobbits. :'(
I LOVED LOVED LOVED all the LOTR movies and every 6mo. or so do a marathon viewing.
I thoroughly enjoy those movies and see something new each time I watch them. I would be embarrassed to admit to how many times I have watched them. Love Tolkien. Love all the movies, including The Hobbit.
I’ve always thought part of it was the fact that Jackson managed to bring out the best of all of them. Orlando was not the only one who did surprisingly well in LOTR and I always give credit to the directors in such cases.
I’ve watched it sooooooo many times, and I still cry. Every single time.
Boromir’s death is very moving, usually I do not get very emotional when character dies but that was so beautiful and sad. And I love both LOTR and Games. But I think Bean had said this before.
That Reddit Q&A was awesome. He seems like a down to earth guy who enjoys his job and his food. It was hard to not fall in love with him.
I enjoyed the Reddit Q&A too. And chocolate. And mashed potatoes!
He was so incredibly charming and personable in his AMA, I loved his silly stream-of-consciousness responses and his constant food talk! Made me really like Sean Bean!!!
Yes! It was great!
I almost started to ask about conspiracies but I don’t want to spoil things for people that haven’t read and respect that.
One does not simply pick a favorite Sean Bean death scene.
Ahhh! LOL! I see what you did there. Love it.
Mia Girl, your comment is full of WINNING!!
@mia girl – LOVE this comment! 😀
Excellent!
LOL! True story~
Ned Stark’s death destroyed me.
Me too.
I just started to read the books after watching the series and it’s so disturbing. He’s the only moral and decent guy in King’s Landing and really doesn’t see it coming. Only Sansa was more naive. So sad.
For me, it’s the scene of the man telling Arya not to look, and then the expression on her face as she’s looking at the birds in the sky. It really got to me.
That is one of the best scenes in the trilogy. when Pip and Merry run to help, as Boromir is gallantly fighting to save them, it gives me chills.
Off to watch LOTR again.
Definitely one of the best scenes and his final words with Aragon. He played it well.
Who let him out of the boot?
I think that’s his real hair, just a weird colour. Anyway, I loved him in LOTR and GOT, and I’m glad he’s got a new show, because I think his acting is getting better and better with age. And I love his Northern English accent!
My daughter’s hair is naturally this copper color 🙁
Or auburn in certain lights. But mostly copper
Oh, I didn’t mean weird in the sense that it’s weird on everyone, but he has naturally darker brownish hair, I think. In any case, no offence to your daughter, I appreciate red hair very much!
Did anyone see the online campaign to give him a role where he doesn’t end up dead?
His GOT death made me cry 🙁
LoTR was probably the best. He was great in Black Death, too. That’s an underrated movie.
Popping out of lurkdom to reply that yes! He was great in Black Death! (I might be a little excited that someone else likes that movie!)
Black Death also had good Eddie Redmayne part. But best gorgeous young Sean Bean roles are Richard Sharpe and Mellors the gamekeeper in Lady Chatterleys Lover. After 20 years he still does it for me. I’d hit that hard. He was a real beauty in his younger days. One RSC director who cast him as a laddish Romeo In Stratford said he had the face of young fox — rather prophetic his GOT sigile was the wolf!
He was hot. He still is. But it’s tainted by the knowledge that he is (probably) a womanizing, ugly, drunk.
Sean isn’t bald or receding. I hope this show is a big hit for him.
I am probably one of the few people who enjoy spoilers, I look up every show I’m starting to watch bc I cry very easily and I like to be prepared. Dexter, Sons of Anarchy, Breaking Bad etc I looked it up before I watched. I knew what was going to happen to ned before it happened but I still bawled like a baby 🙁 . Actually im stuck on season/book 2 (reading as I go) and im finding it hard to continue watching because I know my favorite characters are going to go through hell..
I was spoiled for The Walking Dead finale this season. I needed to know if I should prepare for cannibalism.
Boromir’s death was better, IMO.
Oh my word !! I’m new to the whole GOT mania. And I cry easily, way too easily. So, Ned Stark’s death was too much for me. I sobbed. The way it was shot with the birds flying and Arya looking up at them and been held back so she doesn’t look, just made that scene so sad. That and *spoiler alert* Oberyn’s death have been the worst for me. If Tyrion dies, I think I will never recover. And yet, I’ve starting reading the books….. I’m a sucker for punishment LOL 😉
I just typed the same thing upthread! That look on her face! I’m tearing up now thinking about it!
Great minds mayamae 😉 and that scene had no music, just some form of white noise. It was so sad :'(
For me, it’s his voice. It can make me shiver.
I remember looking at the commercial, and like many out there thought, ok, the show looks good, but this will last 7 episodes … he will get killed…
I have lusted after Sean Bean since he was in Goldeneye all those years ago. My friend and I hyperventilated (ok ok we were teenage at the time) “OMG who is that man?”. Pierce Brosnan who? Even BOUGHT The Island just because he was in it. Thrilled he has such memorable roles and can actually act and was so good particularly in GoT and LOTR. Look forward to the new series.
