George Clooney & Amal got their marriage license, will they marry this month?

wenn21069505

This is just an FYI: George Clooney and Amal Alamuddin are going to get married very, very soon. Like, this month. Probably two or three weekends from now, something like that. George and Amal got their marriage license in London a few days ago – you can see a photo of it here. Marriage licenses are public documents, that’s why we know about it. The marriage license lists the wedding venue as Italy. So now you know!

George Clooney and Amal Alamuddin are one step closer to tying the knot.

The engaged duo have now secured their marriage license, PEOPLE confirms. The couple got their license in London, which is where Alamuddin, a star lawyer, is based. Photos show a notice posted publicly outside Chelsea Old Town Hall (a legal requirement for U.K. citizens) announcing that the two plan to wed. The notice lists the wedding’s location as Italy.

The two plan to exchange “I do”s at a ceremony there, and they’ve been spending much time lately in Lake Como, where the Oscar-winning actor has a villa. In July, Clooney, 53, and Alamuddin, 36, were spotted having dinner with his parents in the area.

The couple’s respective mothers were also seen getting chummy and smiling while shopping together during their Italian getaway.

Clooney popped the question to Alamuddin in April, and, in a typical display of his charming, self-effacing candor, Clooney recently gushed to Variety about his bride-to-be.

“I’m marrying up,” the smitten actor said of his fiancée.

[From People]

The Daily Mail notes that “The legal notice of their intention to marry has to be displayed in public for 16 days before they are allowed to tie the knot.” Ah. So, if this notice went up yesterday… they would be getting married around the 22nd? Something like that. Sh-t, let me look at a calendar and figure this out. Let’s see… the 23rd is a Saturday. Ten bucks says they’re getting married on the 23rd. I can’t wait… to see if George and Amal sell their wedding photos to People Mag.

Marrying up? Good grief, they are still playing a version of the ‘level’ storyline. So he is now below her level?

  2. Ag says:

“The legal notice of their intention to marry has to be displayed in public for 16 days before they are allowed to tie the knot.” that’s so odd to me, what a different legal system. or, is that so that all the cocktail waitresses in the world (no shade to them, i used to be one) can rise up and protest george being off the market?

    • Ellen says:

It goes back to medieval church practice, “posting the banns.” It’s a formal process so that anyone who knows just cause for the marriage not to go forth has time to come forward and prevent their evidence.

      • Ag says:

thanks, guys! interesting. (i assumed that it was something akin to “speak now, or forever hold your peace.)

i used to perform marriages in a state court as a law clerk, and the cool thing about them was that people were able to pop in for a license and get married a few minutes later, which is what quite a few couples did because they were on vacation and wanted to get married in alaska. 🙂

      • hutter says:

Is “it’s just for PR” a just cause? I will bring my “George is sooo in love” issue of People Mag as my evidence.

      • MollyB says:

This is still informally practiced in Catholic churches in the U.S. When my husband and I got married our banns were published in the church newspaper for several weeks before our wedding. There was no legal element to it, obviously, just tradition.

      • Same here, MollyB. My mom saved all of the church bulletins with our banns in them. We Catholics sure do love tradition. 🙂

    • Happyhat says:

Yeah, like the bit in the wedding where they ask if anyone has any reason for this wedding not to go ahead, speak now or forever hold your peace. In case, like, they were on holiday when the banns were posted and only got back today or something.

  3. mia girl says:

On the 23rd? That’s my birthday!

Great, now these two lovebirds are going to steal all the press away from covering my lavish party… Damn you Clooney!

  4. Kim1 says:

    Good for them
    Best wishes

  5. Hissyfit says:

Of course they will. He gave them the exclusive on how he cooked pasta and bend down on his knees to propose, didn’t he? I’m still laughing at the fact that he gave the location even before this license came out and was whining about how he wants privacy / no paps on his wedding.

  6. Truthtful says:

Oh gosh is this for real ? Really????will he goes a along with this bad , very bad attempt PR?
Does he really think that the public is that much gullible?
And last but not least does he really realize how much he looks and sounds ridiculous entangled in this cheap train station romance scenario he is trying to sell?

    How ridicule!!! and how pathetic!

ps: isn’t he too old for this “groom in shining armor” narrative… at his age I would have been more keen to buy it if he did it privately

    • PHD gossip says:

This is why People Magazine is called “Kneepads” – quoted from the ridiculous article above:

Clooney popped the question to Alamuddin in April, and, in a typical display of his charming, self-effacing candor, Clooney recently gushed to Variety about his bride-to-be.

“I’m marrying up,” the smitten actor said of his fiancée.

      • Truthtful says:

        LOL!

It seems written for a soap !! for real!! LOL

      • Jayna says:

A lot of men say, “I married up.” or when someone is saying complimentary about their wife, “I definitely married up.” I always think it’s a sweet compliment when I hear a man say that about his wife or fiancee. And Clooney does have the charming humor in live interviews when saying something that doesn’t come across in print.

      • Truthtful says:

@Jayna: yes normally I would agree.
But the whole situation is si fake, embarrassing , tacky and orchestrated ( way too much information, way way too much) that one can think you are watching a really bad bad daytime soap opera with your grandma’!LOL!

The guy is too old to be pushing the gushing groom card in public and it’s so fake and lame that the only think I can do is laughing.

I even find his “charming humor” laughable and too much nowadays, too much fake kill the fakery at some point and only laughs and ridicule survive! and his is way way past this point!

      • Nila says:

I honestly think he’s only marrying her because Amal is a virgin (rumored because she’s Druze) and if so probably a novelty for him. :/

      • Sue says:

I guess I’m in the minority here, but I feel the phrase, “I’m marrying up,” is somewhat insulting. To me, it implies you view the person as a status symbol, someone to show off – rather than just caring about the person regardless of their economic achievements. Does that mean, if she weren’t a lawyer, he wouldn’t marry her?

    • Flower says:

-Nila-……If you think Amal is a virgin, I have bridge to sell you. BTW Amal is not a Druze, her father is but her mother is not. Druze is a closed religion you can not convert to it or marry into it, both parents must be Druze for a child to be recognized as Druze, hence Amal is not Druze.

    • Truthtful says:

@Sue: I totally agree I find it a bit offensive too! who this old fart think he is? Yeah Georges Clooney sure! but at the end of the day he is just a mediocre actor that cannot hold a candle to any engineer, architect, doctor , even baker …who do not pretend to be what they are and are actually everyday at their scale contributing greatly to build this world!

He is taking himself way too seriously and considering the joke he is he should try to restrain a bit, and be “happy to marry someone” instead of pompously “marrying up” !!….. Even we all now it’s fake though!

  7. GiGi says:

I’m guessing they won’t “sell” the pics but, rather, that they’ll be “leaked”… but very high quality leaks…

    • marjalane says:

Is it just me, or is everyone more than a little over Clooney and this woman? I feel like he singlehandedly destroyed his own likeability. Not because he’s getting married, but just by being so strange about it.

      • Happyhat says:

I’m so done. I’m like Star Wars done. I’m anti-done.

Clooney has one of those vibes that rub me the wrong way – like, that uber…coffee-drinking, expensive suite wearing…gah, I can’t describe it. Mega-rich-man vibe. Like Mr. Big. Don’t like it.

And @GiGi I’m really hoping for bad-quality iPhone photos of people being sick behind bins, family members arguing, Cloony doing cheesy disco dancing… It’s not going to happen is it 🙁

      • siri says:

@Happyhat: the second part of your comment just made my day, thanks! I can already picture this, let’s not forget tipsy George asking his mother-in-law if he can borrow her heels …well, it’s probably gonna be just one boring photo, leaked of course.

      • Happyhat says:

@siri Ha! We can only dream!! But it’s totally going to be a boring ‘leaked’ photo. Booooo!

      • FLORC says:

Very over them both. I just came to see if there were recent photos of Amal not dressed terribly. Her sense of style is horrible.
This whole thing seems weird. He’s always said he was a terrible husband and would never marry again. Also, never tuled out running for office. Finds a woman who can only help his pr image and be taken more seriously. And she loooves the cameras. We’ll see how this plays out. Maybe it’s love, but love is rare to form that quickly. This seems calculated and clooney always has motives.

      • Jayna says:

I agree. Instead of all these bizarre leaks or photo-ops (many false , but many from his camp) and allowing his mom to talk, blah, blah, I would have loved a nice statement by him where I actually felt his happiness and pride of her and saying, yes, I’m engaged and she’s a wonderful woman, blah, blah, just announcing it, or a short interview. This whole no word from him period but all these leaks of info to us is odd. If he didn’t want to acknowledge the engagement, then just do it legitimately real with the blackout and keep it quiet and go about your life and have the wedding, with no drips and drabs of info weekly, like the set-up photo of them having dinner with her engagement ring on with Cindy Crawford and Rande Gerber, the photo-ops of her in the U.K., the on and on how they met and dated, blah, blah, with him silent as a stone.

  8. Chris says:

She looks fantastic and she’s obviously very smart and independently wealthy. She could do better than Clooney.

  9. Kori says:

You don’t think the Daily Mail will get the rights to the photos? 🙂

  10. Cupcake says:

Whirlwind!! How long have they been together?

  11. Tulip Garden says:

Um….stop the presses, engaged couple actually planning to marry!

    What a crazy world!

  12. Erinn says:

Well… I didn’t expect for it to get to this point, to be honest.

I’m on the 9 day count down until ours. This week alone, I’ve burnt my hand on my curling wand, dropped a steak knife straight into my foot from off the counter, and had a giant nosebleed. Sooo…. here’s hoping I make it down the aisle in one piece.

    • Ag says:

      haha! congrats!

    • Lilacflowers says:

      Best wishes, Erinn.

    • MonicaQ says:

      Congrats! Also catbug ftw.

    • Bej says:

Best wishes to you Erinn. Sounds like the universe is sending you signs. Signs that you are preoccupied & excitedly anxious for your big day. There’s often so much pressure to get the day ‘perfect’, but once it’s over you can breath again & enjoy what comes next. Hope you have a lovely wedding, & make it down the aisle without any more injuries 🙂

    • Dani says:

Break an egg in the sink! It’s a Moroccan superstition to rid yourself of the bads. I had like ten near death experiences the week before my wedding, too. Congrats!!

    • Lady Macbeth (Hiddles F.) says:

Congrats and… be careful! I hope you have a lovely wedding day too! xx

    • HarleyB says:

Stop with those doomsday prophecies. ….you’re just talking up a pimple…lol.
Congratulations and Best Wishes from a complete stranger

    • aqua says:

Relax everything will be just FINE! I’m sure your wedding day will be everything you’ve ever dreamed of and more.

  13. PunkyMomma says:

This man used to make me drool. I still think of drool when I see a pic of him, only it’s him drooling while Amal pushes his chair. Good luck with this farce.

  14. Belle Epoch says:

The license looks like her last name is Al Amuddin? Just curious if she Englified it from two words to one?

    • LAK says:

Probably….though ‘Al’ in an Arab (or middle eastern descent) name denotes royalty or royal blood. I’ve never seen anyone disguise it before if that is what she’s doing. English people fully accept the separation eg Rania Al Abdullah born Rania Al Yassan AKA Queen of Jordan. Hiding it is very odd.

      • Qatar2 says:

        Hi Lak,
Sorry to disagree, but that is not entirely correct. “Al” means “the” in Arabic. Family names from the Gulf states and to a lesser degree from the Levant and North Africa are linked to their tribes, and so their last names are often preceded by “al” or “Al” (more common in the Gulf states) or even “El” (more common in the Levant and North African countries) to reflect that the are “of” that tribe. It doesn’t always indicate a link to royalty – they tend to be reflected as His or Her Excellency or Sheikh/Sheikha (or His/Her Highness for those at the highest ruling levels). Grammatically, there is no difference in Arabic to being Alamuddin, Al Amuddin, al Amuddin or El Amuddin.

        Source: I live in Qatar.

      • Forthelasttime says:

Thank you Qatar2! I have tried telling LAK the same but she insists she’s an expert on all matters including origins of Arabic names… I had the same discussion with her about Al Fayed… I have no idea where she gets her information from but I suspect it’s The Daily Mail.

  15. Olenna says:

    The Non-Event of the Year.

  16. lisa2 says:

The posting of the announcement reminded me or Jane Eyre..

Maybe the posting is so that any interested party can come forth and tell why he or she thinks the marriage should not go forth. Maybe there will be some strange outcry of STOP.. NO.

anyway congrats.. I guess after the wedding we will have stories of George becoming a 50+ Dad.. All bets are open at this point.

    • Happyhat says:

Are you implying Clooney’s first wife is going to escape from the attack and try to attack Amal, and Clooney will be all like “Yeah, she’s mental and also not that famous so I HAD to lock her away,” and then the first wife will throw herself of a building and Amal will go to live with her cousins?

Then, only when Clooney has blinded himself somehow will Amal be like, “Oh, you’re bearable now, OK lets wed!”

Cos I totally believe that could happen.

      • Angie says:

Wouldn’t that be funny, in a perverse kind of way? At least it would be authentic, unlike all the couch-jumping we’ve been given so far.

      • Suzanne says:

Happyhat…YOU are funny. I love your sense of humor. I’ve been LOL over each post you made on here today. Thanks for the only laughter I had today!!

    • Flower says:

There has been a quite insane Clooney Troll around on the sites for over a decade, she used to say the most outlandish things like Clooney was really working for the CIA, involved in drug cartels, working undercover for the government etc and anyone who started up a Clooney fan site or blog were paid CIA agents or paid detectives. She insisted he was really in love with her and his minions (friends) spent their live harassing her (dead rats in the letter box) and trying to keep him away from her. She was not just a kook but really scary in her level of insanity, I hope she doesn’t own a revolver or Clooney’s marriage may be short lived.

  17. Lilacflowers says:

OMG!! What am I going to wear to the wedding?????

  18. MrsBPitt says:

I find this so strange….Marriage phobic Clooney, falls in love, gets engaged and married so quickly…ok, he fell in love, but why wouldn’t someone so anti-marriage at least wait a couple of years into the relationship? I just feel like something is off about this whole thing!

    • Christin says:

He described himself as a lousy husband. For all his bravado, he has admitted he wasn’t good at marriage.

A change of heart is possible, but this PR circus has been a distraction from his previous comments that he would not marry again.

  19. Aussie girl says:

Is it just me but do they look similar in looks?

    • jane16 says:

I’ve been saying that for months. They look like they’re related. Same shape eyebrows, same “roll” underneath the eyes. Its really creepy.

  20. MediaMaven says:

Why would they need to get a lucense in London to get married in Italy? I got marriex in Italy, and we went through the process there, with an interpretor.

    • SuePerb says:

Are you British? If so, yes, you had to give notice to your local registry office. Did you register your marriage in the UK when you got back? If not, you need to go to the registry office or you may have all kinds of problems later on if you divorce, pensions, or there is a death etc.

      • MediaMaven says:

        not British – I knew I wasn’t getting something in the process……….thanks.

  21. Savanna says:

This whole thing is SO sketch.

And I have zero respect for Amal anymore. We’ve seen so much of her just flouncing around, and heard NOTHING of her actually working. At least past girlfriends understood their role, you know?

Plus I have no idea why George feels like he should get married. I feel like he thinks we’ll all lay off his “bachelor” status, but that was part of his identity that everybody accepted.

    • FLORC says:

She can work from home or a yacht. And that time she wore the clear heels and the odd pink suit she was headed/flouncing to her office.

George has made it no secret he wants a public office at some point. Everytime he’s denied it he does so in a halfhearted way like most politicians just waiting fo the right time to announce. And many have said being a bachelor won’t help him. Before he runs he’ll need a wife.

  22. Jaderu says:

I swear I’m still waiting for George to post a “Gotcha!!” video or something to Youtube personally addressed to Tina Fey and Amy Poehler. The realization that they’re actually going to get married is surreal. Kind of like finding out that Lindsey Lohan actually DID get a part in a play. It’s the end times I tell you!!

    • Dara says:

@Jaderu – Your theory makes SO much sense – now I can actually wrap my brain around this whole circus! An elaborate practical joke is actually more Clooney’s style than an old-fashioned, dearly-beloved wedding ceremony. It’s a sad commentary that I prefer this scenario to the ‘love of a good woman changed me forever’ schtick that is being flung about.

  23. francis says:

Yawwn. Fake romance, rushed marriage to a woman he barely knows. Both boring. So over these two. I cant even imagine these two sleeping together for real.
    Hope Amal enjoys her contract.

  24. Dany says:

that whole relationship seems so fake. Everything is so staged and strange.
Maybe i´m just an unromantic sceptic here. People can change and maybe it´s love and bla… oh my i don´t believe them. I try, but i can´t.

  25. Paloma says:

I knew he wasn’t into playing games like Aniston. Engaged for an eternity; marriage maybe. I read another blogger’s post elsewhere that said if you’re engaged for five years, you’ll never make it to the altar. I agree.

    • Francis says:

George is into contracts, staged romances, it’s more of the same with a marriage contract.
I think it all looks like a FRM (Fake Rushed Marriage)

    • Mrs McCubbins says:

I was engaged for five years before I got married. I think he met her and was taken by surprise. I dont see this as a PR move. He’s smitten for sure. It’s the Pitt Jolie engagement that is for PR. Why arent they married? They have children and have been together for 9 10 years?

      • aqua says:

It’s rumoured that the Jolie/pit wedding will be sometime next year after their house in France is finished. It’s being said that they are waiting for their 10th year of being together and the wedding is suppose to be a small intimate affair with just a few close family member and friends.

      • Jessica says:

@Mrs Why wouldn’t YOU think the Jolie-Pitt engagement isn’t for PR? No one even mentioned them.

      • Kim1 says:

I guess Liev and Naomi engagement is for PR.They have been ENGAGED for seven years ,been together over 9years and have children. Why don’t they get married?

  26. Kim1 says:

Or maybe George fell madly in a woman who he feels is the love his life.George is not 30 he is 50+ why should he have a year long engagement?
And if it is fake how does that affect your life?
If they divorce next year oh well it’s not the end of the world.

    • Truthtful says:

I think you clicked on the wrong link or got unfortunately lost…otherwise welcome on a celebrity gossips website!
The very concept is discussing the life of celebrities, knowing perfectly that it won’t affect our lives of course, but having fun and saying whatever we think of celebrities…again welcome!

      • Kim1 says:

I’m happy for George and I am looking forward to seeing wedding pics. They make a lovely couple.

  27. jonB says:

wow that was so fast, Seriously I am embarrassed for Jolie.

    • truthSF says:

Oh JONB…even when this has nothing to do with her/them, you have to show your hate for all things Jolie. I feel so sad for you.

      • DaSariH says:

That’s what you call internet trolling. This person post negative comment to every Jolie thread. Even if it’s not a Jolie’s thread but something related, like: charity, kids, action movie, Pitt – JonB is there hating, bringing up Jolie’s name. Isn’t it sad? She claims to hate Jolie but cannot stop talking about her? Now, that’s embarrassing!

Back to the thread, Good for Clooney and Amal for actually getting married. I still think this is a PR contract but who knows? They might actually benefit career and popularity wise with this marriage.

      • jonB says:

a lot of people are mentioning aniston in this thread and nobody said anything !

      • jonB says:

dasarih no sweetie you’re wrong , i rarely comment on cb

      • DaSariH says:

Honey, look back at the last 2 threads you’ve commented on before this: Marion’s Cotillard’s talking about Jolie’s retirement and the thread about Brangelina writing love letters. You may rarely comment on CB but when you do, you always make sure it’s Jolie related. Who cares about Aniston? What does she have to do with this thread? Just like Jolie? If you we’re pissed that somebody brought her up, then why not comment on that instead of dragging Jolie here?

You’re no different to those psycho Aniston fans who wants to stab Jolie and wants her to die. It’s very sad.

      • jonB says:

Dasarih , i don’t want her to die ! sure i dislike her but not to that pint ! everyone is entitled to his/her opinion , and if you can’t accept it then that’s just too bad for you ! btw ypu are wayyyyyyyyyyyyyy to invested in this

    • Chris says:

What what what? Where does AJ come into it?

  28. Kimye part deux! says:

Lol. Is this their way of announcing to the world that the paparazzi and the rest of the world better get ready and make a big hoopla out of it? It’s working. I’m sure the papz are flying to Italy right now, securing their access location for a clear shot of the wedding. And the media are going to have a countdown ala Wills and Kate.

Then a week later we will have a direct, clear shot photos of the wedding in People from the papz which we all know will be leaked by his team anyway.

  29. aqua says:

I guess the official count down for their wedding has now begun. Their has been a lot of speculation since their engagement as to why they are getting married but truth be told only the two people involved (George and Amal) are the only ones who really knows why. As long as they feel that they are compatible and will be happy together that’s all that really matters.

P .S. I find it funny that some people are said to be fed up with Clooney and Amal, especially with their wedding and yet we continue to read and comment MYSELF INCLUDED.

  30. H2O says:

I’ve known a few guys who just decided that it was time to get married, out of the blue. Guys really do click into a mind set that it’s time to get married.

It seems that every relationship discussed, not just here but on other sites also, is for PR. Most of us are either paired off or looking for love. Just because they’re actors or in the public eye somehow, doesn’t mean they don’t want what we want. It could be that they want children and they’re old enough and dated enough to think they found the right one at last.

    • HarleyB says:

Maybe I’m naive or a hopeless romantic, but I agree with you. At a certain age you face your mortality and you dont want to have lived so selfishly. ..I like him, I like her…wish them well, time will tell.

      • aqua says:

Your not naïve I feel the same as both of you. Even celebrities want what we want but I think because they are who they are( being celebrity) makes it harder for them to find someone that they are compatible with. They must always ask themselves is this person with me because they really want to be with me or is it for my money and fame? And if they choose someone with the same career path as them then their could be jealousy As one gets older you realize that it’s your relationships with your family and friends that are really important I think they suit each other perfectly and are a lovely couple and will have a beautiful family some day soon.

  31. Annie says:

Every time I read her name I think of General Admiral Aladeen.
