Paula Abdul hints that she’s done with Idol

Paula Abdul is quoted in the upcoming issue of OK! Magazine as saying that four judges on American Idol is one too many. She claims it’s not about any possible feud with the new judge, her former housemate Kara DioGuardi, but that it just takes too long to do anything with four people on the panel instead of three. It really sounds like Paula is over it and wants to leave Idol, which has been the rumor for a while:

PAULA Abdul isn’t too keen on the addition of fourth judge Kara DioGuardi to “American Idol” this season.

It’s nothing personal, she says – just business.

“Kara and I have known each other for years and we get along great,” Abdul tells the March 9 issue of OK! magazine.

“But we tried four judges before and it doesn’t work.”

Abdul is referring to Angie Martinez, the Hot 97 DJ who joined “Idol” as a judge before the second season but bailed before the season kicked off.

Abdul also says the extra person disrupts the flow of the show.

“It takes up so much time for each of us to give our opinion that it slows down the pace of the show,” she says.

As for her future on “Idol,” Abdul is a little more cagey.

“It is the last season of my contract, and I have so many other things I want to do,” she says.

You think they could have found someone better than Kara for that hit show, but maybe they wanted a young, pretty woman with an attitude to create some friction with Simon. Paula adds a much needed dose of slurry kindness to Idol and it definitely won’t be the same without her. Maybe producers should have worked to make Paula happy instead of bringing in someone new. Many people don’t like Kara and find her full of herself and off-putting, while Paula is pretty much beloved when she’s able to function.

Paula should have more coherent days in her future. She told OK! that she had successful surgery to correct her back pain and that she has weaned herself off her pain medication. Good for Paula. We’ll have to see what can kind of projects she has in the works and if she’s off medication she’ll probably be much more capable. Paula is rumored to be working on a cheerleading themed Vegas show.

  1. dude wtf says:

who will be the “nice” one then? Sadly to say, I much prefer Paula over that new girl. She is rude & usually negative. She thinks she is the female version of simon & she isnt. At least simon gives credit when credit is due. The only time i hear her give kudos to a performer is after she hears someone else say it. She sux!

  2. Obvious says:

Last night was the first time I got almost through an entire episode this season. Kara needs to shut up and leave it alone.

And while I have no love for Bikini Girl-you do not cal people a b*tch, or anything else when they are standing right there. She rude, crass, not attractive and she has ruined the dynamics.

It was bad enough having to sit through one annoying person (Ryan), but now with 2, the show is almost unwatchable.

  3. Ron says:

I hope Paula doesn’t leave because she is good television. She takes the edge off the harshness of the other judges. She might want to leave because the producers really put her in danger over the stalker incident…that would be enough to make me leave.

  4. Ron says:

I have to say this too–that dress is the fugliest thing ever. YIKES!

  5. Paula is a drunken, incoherent mess. She better not leave Idol.

  6. RUFFNSWEET says:

They need to get rid of Kara and keep Addul. Kara is ridiculous.
