Kendall Jenner says she drinks 12 cups of detox tea per day: really?

Kendall Jenner

Last time we talked about Kendall Jenner, she was getting mean-girled by other models at London fashion week. (I still believe the source for that story is Kris Jenner because of course it was.) Like it or not, Kendall is a legit model now. She’s not simply appearing in family friend Marc Jacobs’ ads and runway shows. Kendall spent the past several days as the star of Milan fashion week. These are photos of her at the Dolce & Gabbana show and walking the Ports 1961 runway. She also appeared in the Fendi, Pucci, and Bottega Veneta shows.

Kendall took a moment to speak with E! Online about how she stays in runway shape. She claims to drink 12 cups of detox tea daily. Is that safe? Detox tea contains diuretics, which can dehydrate in the long run. Kendall also says she loves to eat apples, veggies, and lean proteins.

Her detox habit: “I usually start my day off with a cup of detox tea. I have like 12 cups a day.”

She exercises too: “I like running. I’ve been trying to get back into it.”

Her ultimate fashion week prep: “My beauty secret for fashion week is just getting a good amount of sleep. I feel like I at least need about seven hours, eight hours of sleep to function.”

[From E! Online]

Sleep is so important. Most of us don’t get enough. Anyway, I don’t buy that Kendall eats an entirely clean diet. She eats sweet treats on KUTWK quite often, and the Mail has photos of her tucking into gelato in Milan. Kendall probably has a naturally high metabolism. She once talked about trying to gain weight, but that was a few years ago. Maybe she detoxes to look more vibrant for the runway. 12 cups of tea per day seems really excessive.

ahhh, she’s BSing like her sister(s)!

but yeah, a good sleep can make a huge difference.

    • FLORC says:

How is that bsing? There’s nothing about this that sounds fake.

      • Bridget says:

Realistically, no one on a model’s diet would even be able to start running, because they wouldn’t even take in enough calories to keep them going… let alone someone pouring diuretics into themselves at a high, constant rate. Plus, high fashion does not like models to have any muscle tone.

  2. Loopy says:

detox tea? Isn’t that kind of a laxative?

    • Nur says:

Yea, I dont know what that is.. 12 cups of laxatives would be way too extreme.

      • Isa says:

I have some with Senna (cassia angustifolia) leaf and it says no more than once a day and not to drink it for more than 10 days in a row.

      • Serenity says:

Tell me about it. There’s no messing around with this detox tea. I just started drinking it 2 weeks ago. It says to use only one tea bag a day and not more than 10 days in a row. You don’t want to know all the awkward times I’ve had to stop whatever I was doing and run for the nearest toilet.

‘Emergency! Get out of mah way! Emergency!!!!’ *runs down corridor to the loo, shoving people out of the way*

    • LadyMTL says:

12 cups of any kind of tea can be excessive. I’d be in the bathroom all day if I drank even half of that amount, lol.

    • Sabrine says:

She’s trying to fill herself up with liquids so she doesn’t gain weight but she’s still stupid to do that. Messing around with your digestive system like that can cause lifelong health problems. My friend’s daughter was doing something similar and she ended up with colitis.

      • Nur says:

True. I would never dare to mess with my digestive system, esp cos I had colitis and it is absolutely horrible. Im sorry for your friend’s daughter. I basically recovered from mine by giving up all refined carbs, fast food, processed products and whatnot.

      • Tiffany :) says:

I knew an assistant once whose celeb had to throw away her panties every.single.day because she relied so much on laxatives for weight control. That is no way to live.

      • FLORC says:

        Exactly.
And some people are more sensetive to diuretics than others. 12 cups a day might be what she needs now to get that 2 cups a day result.

      • Bridget says:

@Tiffany I bet that celeb would still say it was worth it because she’s *famous*

      • Bridget says:

@Tiffany I bet that celeb would still say it was worth it because she’s *famous*

    • joy says:

I drank some one time and basically relived that scene in Bridesmaids where they got food poisoning. So 12 would destroy me.

      • Val says:

I dunno, detox tea does nothing more for me than normal (herbal) tea would. I drink about 5 big-ass cups a day without even thinking about it. It’s just liquids *shrug*.

    • SnarkGirl says:

Detox tea is usually a laxative, a diurectic, or a combination of both, but there are some that are just a blend of ingredients that are high in anti-oxidants. Anyone going through 12 cups a day of a laxative/diuretic tea is probably dealing with an eating disorder & is seriously risking their life. Laxative and/or diuretic abuse can throw the body’s electrolyte balance waaaay off, which can lead to cardiac arrest and death.

I hope for her sake she’s either lying or using a tea that is just anti-oxidant.

    • Isadora says:

Yes, it totally depends on what’s in the tea. A lot of herbal detox tea blends contain stinging nettle and common horsetail which are diuretics and can be dangerous if you drink excessive amounts. But often these herbs are only a small part of the tea which can contain typical (harmless) tea drugs like raspberry leaves and mint (which can also help with cravings). You can also often find green tea and mate tea in detox teas, not only because of their antioxidant properties but also because they dampen your appetite due to their caffeine content. So 12 cups of detox tea could just mean that she’s having the healthier equivalent of the coffee-and-nothing-else diet of models.

  3. Barrett says:

She’s a beautiful girl. I will be honest though I think she would be a more commercial model if not for her famous family. There is usually something more intangibly unique or alarmingly gorgeous about the runway or high end models. This is nepotism to an extent.

    • Mata says:

Agreed. She’s pretty, skinny, and has mastered the vacant stare. She’s find work as a model, but were it not for the family connections, she wouldn’t be getting a lot of these high end jobs.

    • OriginalTessa says:

Disagree. In that group shot, Kendall’s high cheekbones and wide set eyes really stand out. If she weren’t a Kardashian. no one would question her place there. She fits right in, imo.

      • bella says:

        i agree.
kendall is stunning – absolutely runway material.
too bad her family ties will cause others to cut her down.

      • Charlie says:

I really don’t think so. She’s a pretty girl, but Karlie Kloss she isn’t.

      • FLORC says:

        Charlie
Kloss is a VS model. That’s apples and oranges. You can’t compare a vs commercial and rare runway extravaganza model to high fashion week runway shows. It’s simply not even close to the same.

And family bias aside Kendal has the look for these shows. She would get in. As bella said it’s only because people hate her family that they claim she isn’t runway material.

      • Charlie says:

Kloss was a high fashion model before VS. And she still is, and she still does a lot of high fashion shoots. She isn’t like Adriana Lima or Candice Swanewhatever.
To me, Kendall looks like catalogue material, and she might have gotten to do high fashion shows on her own, but it would take her much much longer, and she wouldn’t open a show in her second year. She is where she is because of her family and because her name brings a lot of publicity.

    • Culture says:

She’s pretty, but it’s a girl-next-door thing. She’s not quite delicate or even thin enough for high fashion. She’s totally forgettable and would be doing catalogue stuff if it weren’t for Kris Jenner releasing that tape, BT. BT and AT: Before Tape and After Tape = Before the Kardashians and After the Kardashians. A really assault on pop culture, as low as that was stooping already.

  4. Skyblue says:

Cannot believe she is a model. She is so basic and lacks charisma. Yawn!

    • Janie says:

      I absolutely agree with you!

    • mystified says:

I would imagine that that would be what many designers want: a competent walker with regular features who doesn’t distract you from the clothes.

I am actually pleasantly surprised at how well she walks, I expected her to have a more “look at me” vibe like her mom, but she seems really professional. Good for her.

      • Erinn says:

Yeah, I have no qualms with her modeling. Did she get into it with connections? Of course. Unfortunately, jobs are still like that for ‘regular’ people too. It’s all about who you know.

      • mystified says:

True, but connections always favor the well prepared. Many people who are given great opportunities because of who they know often fall flat on their faces when they can’t deliver.

    • Chem says:

High Fashion modeling is not about charisma. She fits well.

  5. Miss5280 says:

If I was related to a Kardashian, I’d want to be detoxing all the time, too. Bleh.

I’m curious as to what is in her tea. She could just be talking about regular tea or herbal tea.

    • Happy21 says:

She very well could be. I have a detox tea from David’s Tea that is a green tea. It doesn’t do anything to me different from other teas I drink…

  6. Anna says:

12 cups a day for multiple days in a row would be way too much, that’s really unhealthy. Hopefully she was exaggerating on the amount and she only does this when it’s fashion week and she doesn’t do it all year long.

Maybe she actually is dieting, she’s lost a lot of weight in the past year. Her legs are tiny now.

    • AG-UK says:

I thought I read the article elsewhere that said she did it during the shows but still a lot of tea and the shows are longer than a week so you are talking about 3-4 weeks??

    • Hissyfit says:

12 cups/day is too much and it’s unhealthy! She is going to crack anytime and go nuts if it’s true!

As for Kendall, I am getting her modeling vibe now. She fits right in there and I’m afraid she might actually be the next “it” girl of the fashion world. Good for her for milking the Kardashian name and using it as a stepping stone for landing a job she actually loves and good at instead of going for the acting route which she would suck.

    • Dutch says:

With her demonstrated inability to read off a teleprompter maybe math isn’t her strong suit either.

  7. Louise177 says:

I doubt she drinks 12 cups a day. More like 6 or 7. Most likely Kendall wasn’t being literal and exaggerating because she drinks a lot. The interview isn’t posted so I don’t know if Kendall said she never eats sweets or was specifically talking about Fashion Week. Basically I think this article is being too literal.

  8. NewWester says:

That can’t be good for one’s body

  9. Kiddo says:

No amount of detox tea is going to wash away the toxic nature of this family. If it did, I think most people would resort to mainlining it.

  10. Pix says:

I’m not going to lie, Yogi Tea has a Detox blend that is delicious. I could see drinking many cups, perhaps even 12. Especially if it’s all I drank in a day – no soda or juice.

Anyway, I don’t know why people act like her being a model is some kind of accomplishment. No matter what the label, she’s still a glorified mannequin. Her sole purpose is to look vacant, be thin, and not open her mouth. Hard work.

    • Josephine says:

I agree with you on the model bit, but at least it’s a job where she actually has to show up, which is more than can be said for the rest of them. I don’t think she’s anything special and I don’t think she would have this level of job without the family. And considering that the goal in that family is to be followed in the media, she has that, at least for now. But if she continues just modeling, her star will fade.

    • Rahma says:

Could you tell me the name of the brand of the yogi tea? and the delicious blend?

      • Isadora says:

Yogi Tea is the brand’s name and I think the tea is really just called “Detox”. It’s (like all the Yogi Teas) a bit like chai because it contains cinnamon, ginger, black pepper and cardamom. However be cautious if you have high blood pressure because nearly all Yogi Teas also have liquorice in them – but given that this Detox blend also has mild diuretics and laxatives in it, you shouldn’t overdo it anyway.

  11. martha says:

brain detox is good too : learn 12 new words per day

  12. Talie says:

All these skinny fashion chicks are obsessed with Matcha.

  13. COSquared says:

OK folks, let’s just take a moment and oggle that amazing D&G dress she’s wearing. Hawt! Anyways, I’m calling BS on 12, maybe 8 max

  14. Mitch Buchanan Rocks! says:

Add a shade of mustache and unibrow to Kendall Jenner and voila! Frida Kahlo.

  15. Mia V. says:

Now we know what happened to their brain: detox-washed.

  16. Gabrielle says:

She must be crapping her brains out.

  17. break says:

What kind of a teenager needs “beauty secrets”? When I was here age, I looked great no matter what I did to my body or how long I slept.
    Now… not so much.

  18. BeckyR says:

She is a 6 foot clothes hanger with a famous family. Big whoop. She will never be one of the really elite models.

  19. Blythe says:

I hope she does get what she wants out of this fashion industry because, quite frankly, she is a generic-looking model. She has no features that “pop”, like the highest paid models have. Her eyes, her lips, her cheekbones – there is nothing there. But, let’s see how everything turns out.

  20. dref22 says:

Good luck her kidneys and liver!

  21. Eleonor says:

She is not charismatic, but she is not worst than other models, I think she is pretty.

  22. Hashtag says:

What is the difference between detox tea and regular tea???

  23. jammypants says:

My kidneys hurt just reading that. 12 cups??

  24. alexandra says:

She is still a teen her metabolism has not changed yet, so tea or not tea she will be just perfect. Youth is so attractive and hard to mess with, except if you are Lilo

  25. kri says:

Yawn. WE all know what most mdels/actresses do to stay as thin as possible and it’s alot more extreme than detox tea. I am sure some have a naturally fast metabolism, but I recall the VS models talking about fasting for 3 days before the show, etc.

    • get it together says:

true about the VS models! so many of them have spoken about extreme dieting for 2 or 3 days before a show. however, most of the VS models/angels are older (i.e. late 20’s and older), and several of them have at least one child. they still look amazing, but they probably do need an extra “boost” from a 48 hour fast. 18 year old kendall probably doesn’t need any of that, so either she’s going overboard or more likely, she’s saying what she thinks people want to hear. maybe kendall thinks that if she speaks like a model and acts like a model, people will take her more seriously. “oh, i drink 12 cups of detox tea a day, just like the other models, so i’m a REAL model!”

  26. Mischa Jane says:

I have a couple detox teas, both are Yogi Teas. One’s a berry detox and one’s a peach detox. Both say you should only drink 1-2 cups a day and for no longer than 30 days, and then you should take a break from it. I’ve never drank more than 1 cup a day when I use them. They are just blends of herbs and spices, but yes they have a diuretic effect. I use them if I’ve been on medication or if I’ve been over imbibing. They supposedly gently support your liver and kidneys. I think they’re fine if you use as directed, but if she’s drinking that much that’s not good.

  27. Steph says:

I used to drink a cup of green detox tea before each meal (very green meal, if I may add) while I was trying to shed a few pounds here and there (that was before I found out all about Loaded Gun Diet which allows me to eat anything in moderation) all I can say is that my toilet was like a nuclear bomb testing region at the time. So I can’t imagine what would 12 cups have done.
Unless, of course those were b-cups.

  28. bravocueen says:

I love that she doesn’t look emaciated.

  29. Anne says:

Sleep in fashion week? Lol… Tell that to the models who are walking 50 shows in this month to get their name out there instead of through pure nepotism

  30. Dorky says:

I think she looks fantastic, and I, too, love how she doesn’t look emaciated and walking-dead. Who really cares that she got a leg up through family connections? People get jobs through connections in every industry, at every level. And she appears to be doing a great job, showing up and doing her job. Are any other models expected to read from teleprompters or do great math? Not really. *shrug* I have no problem with her, even though I think her mom is an ass.

  31. Dorky says:

And that top dress is GORGEOUS!!!

  32. Rosehip says:

I have this tea too. The brand is ‘Kusmi Tea’, Kusmi being the abbreviation of ‘Kousmichoff’, who was the tea blender for the Russian imperial family.
The brand has been sold and bought a couple of times, and is now being highly marketed in France. They still have melanges like ‘Prince Vladimir’ or ‘Anastasia’.
They are good, but overmarketeered hence expensive.
I like ‘Detox’, but it is just a name, nothing more. There are no laxatives in it. It’s a nice refreshing green tea with lemon grass, and that’s it. It’s a relatively new blend in their range, and i think the name was chosen to appeal to young women. I drink quite a lot of it during the summer, because i like the taste.

I have quite a few kinds of Kusmi tea, because there are certain blends that i don’t find elsewhere, but to be honest the company presents itself as smug, and they are not costumer-friendly at all.
