Pippa Middleton doesn’t do the Dukan Diet, does consume chocolate & wine

It’s been forever since I’ve written about Pippa Middleton. I’ve actually missed her. Pippa was nowhere to be seen during her sister’s HG, which is too bad. I thought that Pippa would have been a decent surrogate for Kate at some of those canceled appearances. Last we heard, Pippa and Nico Jackson were engaged to be engaged, although Nico is now living most of the time in Switzerland (for work) and there are rumors going around now that Nico and Pippa are on the verge of a breakup. Pippa was also house-hunting, but I don’t know how that turned out. Part of me thinks that Pippa has been consciously keeping a lower profile because the royal courtiers were pissed off with how she was cashing in on her connections with interviews, etc.

Anyway, Pippa is a “writer” and “columnist” as we know. After being fired from a couple of gigs, Pippa still writes for Vanity Fair (I think?) and Waitrose Weekend. In the new issue of Waitrose Weekend, Pippa details her diet and exercise regimen.

Pippa Middleton’s backside stole the show at Kate Middleton and Prince William’s wedding — and now the younger Middleton sister is sharing her diet and fitness secrets with readers of Britain’s Waitrose Weekend magazine. Middleton, 31, is writing a new monthly column for the mag, focusing on health and wellbeing. The stunning brunette is working with a nutritionist and personal trainer to come up with recipes and fitness tips for readers of the publication, which is linked to Waitrose, Middleton’s favorite food store.

In her first written endeavor, the British socialite, entrepreneur and philanthropist is lifting the lid on her diet and fitness approach, debunking myths that she’s a Dukan follower and providing readers with a 30-minute, full-body work out plan that can be done in the privacy of your own home.

“I grew up with the belief that good health is about moderation in all things, so I’ll be celebrating healthy living through exercise, a balanced diet and a little of the naughty stuff sprinkled in — I’m talking chocolate, crisps and the occasional glass of wine,” she wrote.

“I’ve never done Dukan, attempted Atkins or exercised religiously seven days a week, but I do believe in making healthy choices — keeping refined carbs such as white bread and pasta to a minimum, and sticking to sensible portion sizes,” Prince William’s sister-in-law continued.

“I know that if I fit in at least three, ideally five, sessions of exercise a week, be it a 30 minute run, an hour’s walk or a good game of tennis, it boosts my mood and energy, and helps me sleep and digest better. So I make it a priority, whatever the weather or my work schedule.”

Her first offering to readers was a workout schedule focusing on four key exercises: ladders, plie squats, wall pushes and the classic plank, which, she wrote, are both quick and easy ways to tone all over. “Do the routine three times a week and you’ll really notice a difference,” she promised.

[From Us Weekly]

I hate planks. I hate squats. I’m cool with walking, biking and weight training, thanks. But maybe that’s why I don’t have Pippa’s athletic build. Here’s the thing: I’m actually interested in Pippa’s diet and exercise advice. I think this is probably the one thing she has to offer us, because I really have no interest in her #PippaTips about Wimbledon, cooking, party planning or any of that. But I’d like to know what she eats, how she diets, how often she works out. Oh, and I always thought Dukan and Atkins were kissing cousins? Both are high-protein and low/no carb. And I thought the whole Middleton family did some variation on Dukan/Atkins? Hm.

    “Stunning brunette”? Ooooookaaaaay.

    • Etheldreda says:

I think they meant to say, ”Stunningly average”.

      • Amy Tennant says:

I guess. She looks like a girl who if you were friends with her, or if she worked in your office, you would think she was so pretty. There’s nothing wrong with her looks at all. She just looks “normal person” attractive to me, not “movie star” stunning. Nothing wrong with that. Heck, most of that even with the movie stars is makeup, lighting, and computer retouching.

    • Tristan says:

That sounds like sour grapes x 1 zillion! She is a really stunning, sweet & drop dead gorgeous woman

  2. LadySlippers says:

I don’t buy the idea that Pippa was told to keep quiet. The reason I say that is two-fold. One, ole Champagne Charlie did as he pleased and often cashed in on his sister’s Royal status and the courtiers said nothing. Two, we still hear from Pippa. If they’d hushed her she’d honestly be quiet.

    • COSquared says:

ITA. I think courtiers set ‘no-go’ topics for her and other in-laws.

    • Katie says:

If you’re referring to Charles Spencer, then he had a title of his own, thus giving himm a bit more leeway with the Establishment than Pippa who has no title and no status of her own.

If you’re not referring to Charles Spencer, ignore me as I have no idea who Champagne Charlie is otherwise.

      • LadySlippers says:

        •Katie•

I’m totally speaking of Charles Spencer. The fact that he was Viscount Althorp at the time had zero to do with his tasteless cashing in on his sister’s connections (and often, still does). He was more ‘out there’ than Pippa is/was. BP didn’t ask him to reign himself in anymore than I believe they ask the Middleton’s to change. Numerous times BP has put out statements that they don’t concern themselves with private individuals, which both Charles and Pippa are.

I bet they critique women more than men. ‘Boys will be boys’ and all, that rubbish

  3. may23 says:

All of her advice sound pretty good. She looks good too. Wondering why it didn’t work out between her and Percy? Anybody knows? No attraction? Too much of that duchy to bear on her sculpted shoulders?

    • the.princess.leia says:

I think the Duchess (Earl Percy’s mother) might have shut that down. She is known for her gardening but also something like 150 or 160 patronages. (Kate def couldn’t hang in that family!) I think the novelty wore off for the Family Percy!

      • Juliette says:

Pippa is still close with the heir to the Percy title. They’ve always been close, and were roomates at university. The whispers are that he may be gay. It would explain why Middleton sources have always maintained that he and Pippa never dated.

      • justme says:

She was having dinner with him earlier this month, at a restaurant on King’s Rd – near where they both live (they live about a five minute walk from each other). Whether he is gay or not is not known. He’s never been rumored to have a girlfriend, but he’s never been rumored to have a boyfriend either. He’s not a regular at clubs or parties in London. What is true is that he and Pippa have been friends for over ten years, and their friends always say that they are more like brother and sister than anything else.

      • LadySlippers says:

Pippa and George Percy are papped together on a pretty consistant basis (once every month or so). Solid friends for sure.

  4. Abbott says:

“To obtain health, place healthy vegetables and other food stuff in face hole for maximum benefit. Tread feet at rapid pace daily for gradual muscle growth and endurance. Swinging arms optional.”

    I miss Pippa Tips.

      I miss Marshmallow Tips.

    • Susan says:

      Love! Hahaha

    • helen says:

She might really be a serious athlete and not have to worry as much about what she eats. At the end of the day, if you burned off 3k calories, it’s hard to keep on just “healthy food.” The fact that she did RAAM is pretty cool, even if she was on an 8-person team. She competed in that race before Lance Armstrong, despite his talk of competing.

  5. Bridget says:

I’d like her real diet and exercise plan. I can certainly understand why she would start out with publishing something nice and basic, andit’s a great starting point, but I am genuinely curious about what she does. If this works out she may have actually found herself a niche.

    • may23 says:

You know I thought so too at first, that she might take up and venture into writing after getting that gig with Vanity Fair – what a start, right? But I am convinced now that Middleton girls aren’t interested in things like that. They want to get married (very well mind you!) and settle down, have a house, a couple of children. I feel that theirs are not big ambitions. They are down to earth, sporty and not very intellectual (I doubt there was a library in the Middleton’s house and I cannot imagine either of them read much) women.

  6. COSquared says:

Great body…but the GRAPEFRUIT TAN is just too much.

  7. Jaderu says:

I honestly thought the headline said Dunkin Diet. Wooohoooo donuts!!!
I ran in quickly only to be devastated and forlorn.
Forlorn is my new favorite word.

  8. Lia says:

God bless them, neither of the Middleton girls should wear open-toed shoes.

  9. Mel M says:

These pics of her look good if they’re recent. It looks like she’s toned down on the eyeliner and makeup, maybe she’ll give some #pippatips about makeup to her sister.

  10. Etheldreda says:

Am I the first of the inevitable comments about how Pippa looks so much older than her age? 31? Wow!

    • may23 says:

But I think it’s genetic. It’s their family look and you can’t say Pippa isn’t doing s@#t to stay in shape and sits on her ass all day. So it’s kind of mean to keep saying she looks older.

      • Etheldreda says:

It’s nothing to do with her not being in shape. It’s just that facially, she looks way older than her age. If I didn’t know better, I’d say she was the elder Middleton sister, and it’s not like Kate is young looking either.

As for being ‘mean’, this is celebitchy, and people comment on celebs’ appearance all the time. And it’s not as though Pippa has given us anything of substance to talk about instead.

      • justme says:

I think Pippa will probably look like she does now for the next 20 years or so. She does have sun damage, but a lot of the reason she looks older is genetic. She has a kind of harsh face. That does not mean she is harsh – Lord knows I have met plenty of people with sweet angelic faces who are far from sweet or angelic. It’s just what she looks like. However unlike the sweet faced ones who often don’t age well, she’ll maintain this look well into middle-age.

    • Anony says:

This is why one shouldn’t fake n bake for years…

  11. COSquared says:

O/T : EII just sent out her first tweet!

  12. GoodNamesAllTaken says:

I don’t know. Do we really need to hear another version of the what we already know but don’t necessarily practice perfectly? I think you just have to find what works for you.

    • Hazel says:

Good point, especially since the real advice is coming from a nutritionist & a trainer–and their advice is always the same. Eat nutritious food, not too much, & get plenty of regular exercise.

  13. Reece says:

What are ladders? I googled it and got ladders and people running through actual ladders…wth?

    I like mountain climbers.

  14. Talie says:

Squats I can handle — lunges are the devil.

The best diet I’ve found is just eating real food. Like, if I want a chicken sandwich, I don’t get a processed one from McDonald’s… I cut up a chicken and make it myself. Life changing.

    • Sassy says:

Eating unprocessed food is key. buy heads of leaf lettuce, clean them and use a spinner. No bagged lettuce, ever. Make your own salad dressing with balsamic vinegar and olive oil. Buy chicken, pork chops, etc and freeze individual portions. Frozen veggies with no salt are perfect. Fresh fruit always good. Just do it and keep doing it and you will lose weight. Eat healthy bread sparingly. I just took off 20 lbs in 4.5 months with no feeling of deprivation.

  15. Jenna says:

She may not do a strict version of Dukan or Atkins, but she does say she believes in “keeping refined carbs such as white bread and pasta to a minimum”. There’s a looooooooooooot of wiggle room in that statement, and my guess would be that she eats those things pretty much NEVER, and then only in miniscule quantities (e.g., having a bite or two of cake at a party and then tossing the rest).

She definitely works out a lot (she seems to semi-regularly compete in various long-distance/endurance events, and her times are respectable), so she’s probably burning off enough calories that she can eat a moderate amount of carbs, especially as her body does actually look reasonably healthy (i.e., she does not appear to be starving herself to fashion-model level thinness like her sister). But overall I would guess she eats a much more low-carb/high-protein diet than most of us.

    • Bridget says:

Limitingwhite bread, pasta, and other refined sugars is still a world away from limit ki ng all cards. Rather, its emphasizing whole grains, fruits, and veggies, all of which are still carbohydrates, but are still full of vitamins, nutrients and fiber, where their “white” counterparts are basically just sugar. Plus, if she’s continuing to participate in endurance athletic events she need a to keep her body fueled.

      • Jenna says:

Oh absolutely! You can definitely limit refined carbs without going into crazy restrictive or low carb diet mode. I just personally suspect that Pippa is probably quite a bit stricter about her diet (and somewhat more carb averse) and considerably more active than she suggests in this particular piece.

      • Bridget says:

Ha! If you see my comment above I said that too – I’d love to know what she *really* does. She has a history as an endurance athlete and I’m genuinely curious about her fitness program. Is this a lifestyle for her, or is she a P Duffy, who only took 2 months to train for the NY marathon (a normal training cycle for a marathon is a solid 4-6 months, depending onyour base fitness going in).

      • FLORC says:

I bet Pippa is on a performance diet and restrictive diet. 1 for training and the other for recovery.
She might call her eating habits something else, but I thought it was confirmed Carole, Pippa, and Kate were all on the Dukan diet prewedding.

  16. may23 says:

I run 5 times a week and try to do a few abs and arms sets 3 or 4 times a week. It does bring in results but ONLY if I keep my portions smaller, unfortunately. God, I wish you could eat like a horse and keep in shape by exercising only… I’m pretty sure her real routine is similar with maybe some more strenuous things occasionally, like biking across the US for a week :0…

  17. Eleonor says:

    “Work schedule” AH !

  18. Elle says:

I don’t know why, but I always feel bad for Pippa. And I shouldn’t, given she leads the kind of comfortable life most of us can only dream of.

But I still feel bad for her. She can’t lead a normal life (not that she wants to – but still), and she doesn’t get a lot of the perks of the royal lifestyle but does get the downsides, such as press attention and a limited public role. And for a girl whose goal in life seems to be revolving around marrying well, it has to be hard in her early 30s and still single.

Let me be clear I’m not shading being 31 and single – I think it’s tremendously unfair that women are judged if not married by 30, and I know way too many girls who settled for marrying the wrong guy just to not end up “on the shelf.” But when it seems like a woman’s entire upbringing was structured around “nabbing a good one” – and having her sister succeed in that regard, at least on paper – it has to be difficult. Doubly so because, I have to imagine that, much like Harry, it’s more difficult since Kate’s marriage for Pippa to find a guy she wants to marry who is OK with such a public lifestyle.

That said, I do hope Pippa stops with the writing. There are a lot of more talented, hungry young writers (who can no longer get jobs as journalists) out there, and Pippa doesn’t do herself any favors with her writing. Although I would love to hear her actual diet and exercise routine and not the PR approved one …

    • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

I know what you mean. She gets ridiculed a lot, and I think it probably hurts her feelings. At the end of the day, she’s pretty harmless, and it feel for her, too sometimes.

    • may23 says:

Ha! Your perspective is completely 180 from mine! I feel like Pippa’s got the best out of this ordeal. Money, good family and now, great connections. Do you know how many perks a minor celebrity gets? I’ve seen the gifts and invitations sent to people who don’t really have any real game. And if the Firm really does mind her popularity, what are they going to do? Sit her down and give her some spanking? They might hint, but it’s not like she can control any of that anyway.

And as far as her not marrying – when was the last time she was without a boyfriend? Both guys she dated look like great choices. I don’t think Pippa has much problem in the dating scene. It’s like those celebrities who are beautiful but always alone and others are constantly dating or happily married. There’s no explanation why some do better.

    • Olenna says:

I think Pippa can live any lifestyle she chooses. IMO she’s not being held back or hampered by the BRF nor is she such a sought-after celebrity that she can’t start a career in what most of us consider a regular profession or trade, and work in that field without public or media harassment. It appears to me she enjoys public life and is striving to stay in it, especially through the sporting and charity events. IIRC, prior to Kate’s marriage, she wasn’t noted for her altruistic interests or efforts. And, one would think after the gun incident in France and her book failure, she would have assumed a lower public profile. Instead, she hired a new PR firm and continues to try to find her niche in journalism and high visibility philanthropic circles. Between the two sisters, I think Pippa will always be in control of her life and will make a recognizable name ( even brand!) for herself based on her own merits, rather the person she marries.

Both Pippa and Kate have the worst eye makeup game.
