Julianne Moore says she did ‘Mockingjay’ for her kids, it was ‘fairly meaningful’

JM1

I keep forgetting that Julianne Moore has a part in The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1, which comes out in November. I guess I forgot because Julianne also has a possible awards-contender with Still Alice, and I’m hoping that Julianne really goes all out for her Oscar campaign. I think the Academy will want to give it to Julianne, don’t you? Anyway, Julianne covers the new issue of More (should have renamed it Moore!) to promote Mockingjay. Some highlights:

She loves the message of Mockingjay: “For a child moving into adolescence, the big question is, ‘Do I have free will? Can I determine my own future?’ [At that age], you’re still with your parents. But you’re asking yourself, ‘Who am I?’”

Why she did the film: “Most of the films I make are not for kids. My son was in line for the midnight show when The Hunger Games first came out. They both loved the books. For them, my being in Mockingjay was fairly meaningful.”

Ageing in Hollywood: “When you’re starting out in this business, you feel like you’re not in charge, that you’re still looking to the world for a kind of validation. But as you get older, you realize that direction comes from yourself, from your own desires and responsibilities. [When you’re older] You choose your work. You choose your life. That’s where your power comes from – and that’s a great feeling.”

On Philip Seymour Hoffman’s passing: “It was a terrible, ridiculous, untimely loss. It’s difficult because I’m not sure how his family wants to deal with all this. It’s not my place. But I can talk about him as a colleague. He was an extraordinary talent and a lovely human being.”

I do associate PSH and Julianne with each other, probably because I’ve seen Magnolia about a million times. They also did Boogie Nights together but I haven’t seen that in years. Sigh… Julianne has had such a long, diverse career. From Amber Waves in Boogie Nights to Hannibal to The Big Lebowski to Far From Heaven and on and on. She’s so amazing! She’ll also be 54 years old this December. VAMPIRE. She needs to do a movie with Keanu Reeves.

She one of my references of how to get older in a positive, authentic way. I don’t know if she had work done, but if she did it was really well done. She is older but there’s an elegance about how she carries herself, very humble and dignified. I love that:)

I remember her going way back to As the World Turns in the 1980s and have followed her ever since. She went back to show for one of their episodes leading up to it going off the air a few years ago which I thought was so cool of her. It’s where she got her start and won an Emmy.

  8. minime says:

54?! Wow she’s beyond gorgeous and still looks way younger than that. I will always remember her in Magnolia, even though she played many other amazing roles. And yey to a movie with Keanu! 😀

I am so looking forward to see her as President Coin. It would be such a good part for an actress if it’s been written properly and to see it in the hands of a master like Julianne? Yes please 😄

I don’t often love what she wears on the red carpet, but I think she’s so beautiful. I often tell people, here on CB and IRL, that she’s one of the most beautiful person I ever saw. She was luminous and ethereal – all of us New Yorkers at the courthouse for jury duty moved out of her way and stared, kind of in a slow, mesmerized trance, and we all remarked that it seemed like she had her own soft-focus spotlight on her. Someone said like a halo…that’s what it felt like. LOL.

Love her. Hope she receives a nomination and wins for STILL ALICE
