Benedict Cumberbatch: ‘I always returned to the nest with great joy’

wenn21807453

Benedict Cumberbatch has another in-depth interview out now to promote The Imitation Game. This one is with The Telegraph and the tone is a lot different than the somewhat cutesy, fan-baity and sexy interview he gave to Elle UK. I keep seeing Eddie Redmayne promoting The Theory of Everything in America and every time I see Redmayne, I think: “Well, he’s doing a very visible Oscar campaign, I wonder if that will work?” Meanwhile, Benedict still hasn’t come to America yet to promote TIG, but he’s already done a lot of print media for his Oscar campaign. I wonder if that will work? We’ll see. In any case, you can read Bendy’s new interview here. He talks A LOT about Alan Turing and there’s some interesting stuff about fame and Julian Assange. Some highlights:

BC on the criticism that ‘TIG’ isn’t ‘gay enough’: ‘For me there’s explicit love in the film, and the fact of his sexuality being homosexual doesn’t make any difference. If it would have added to the film, we’d have done it. I’d have no qualms about filming those scenes, expressing that side of a character’s relationship to his body. It’s partly to do with the logical loop of the film, the poetical loop. It’s about what’s not seen, it’s about secrets, what’s repressed – and his sexuality was. This is a man who’s never going to be allowed to love, and that’s really his tragedy and the tragedy of the film.’

Playing Julian Assange: ‘I learnt my lesson with Assange that you cannot get too involved in the subject matter; that you have to focus on the character. But at the same time that was such a current story I wanted to do him justice; I didn’t want to serve him up as being some kind of two-dimensional villain. I wanted to make him into a flawed hero basically.’

The creepiness of Assange’s open letter to Cumby: ‘There was a huge amount of passive aggression in that. I’m not stupid. I knew what he was doing; I knew that he was blindsiding me with praise, thinking my ego would be massaged by some fat, fictitious pay cheque or the idea of being “a movie star” by playing him, and that would persuade me to be some talking piece for the State Department. I wrote back a very strong email that, unless he shows it, will never see the light of day. It’s one of the best pieces of writing I’ve ever done, I’m proud to say, and he was very polite in response. But I don’t feel the need to publish that correspondence, and I’m not going to talk about it.’

He has a half-sister who is 18 years older than him, so he was raised as a ‘spoilt’ only child: ‘Although “spoilt” implies that you’re ruined… I didn’t have to fight for my proportion of love, attention and food or the things you have to do in larger families. All of their resources were poured into me for my education [Cumberbatch went to Harrow]. But I was aware of that. I would have loved to have had brothers or sisters, or so I thought at the time. I was always very gregarious, and I don’t think they would have sent me to boarding school if I wasn’t confident with stepping away from the nest. I love them, and I always returned to the nest with great joy.’

Does he care about stardom? ‘What matters to me is the quality and the variety of the work. I’m in it for the long game. I’m interested in working in 40 years’ time, and turning round and talking to an actor on set and telling them stories about working with Judi Dench and Michael Gambon. So any talk of “man of the moment” hype, heat, whatever, I just smile wryly. It’s the same sh-t with “sexiest whatever” – I was around 10 years before that as an actor and no one took the same face seriously. It’s all projection.’

Whether fame changed his life: ‘Yes, as anyone’s would with the high level of over-exposure at times and that sort of popularity, yeah definitely. But I think the way to normalise is to try to adhere to who and what you did before as much as you can. People have this idea that you’re immediately bubble-wrapped and surrounded by security. I’m not. I get on the Tube and I get on my motorbike. I go to galleries and restaurants and museums and I see people, and they take photographs and I say, “Please don’t,” or whatever seems the appropriate response. The strange thing is walking into a room and knowing that people recognise you, and you don’t know who they are. That’s a different energy that you have to get used to, and some days I’m good at that and some days I’m not. And when I’m not I feel self-conscious. But I still plough on with my day. I don’t scuttle home. I don’t want to live in a world where I have to build high walls.’

[From The Telegraph]

He also described himself as “vaguely” Buddhist and says he meditates whenever possible, which seems… uncharacteristic for someone like Bendy. He seems pretty hyperactive and I would imagine trying to get him to sit still to meditate would be like trying to put a lion in a small cage. I thought the Assange stuff was interesting – I covered the “breakup letter” Assange sent to Benedict just before Bendy filmed The Fifth Estate. Assange then published the letter just before TFE was released, but Assange never published Cumberbatch’s responding correspondence. Benedict is trying to be nice about it, and “passive aggressive” is really the most accurate description. And as for Benedict returning to the nest… he flat-out adores his parents. He seems like a mummy’s boy.

I’m vaguely Buddhist too. We’ll get along nicely then!

    • joan says:

He was just adorable on Graham Norton last Sat.

That’s such a good show to see someone on — looser and more sophisticated than, say, Fakey Fallon.

      • Ally8 says:

Yes, the Graham Norton Show elicits the most human-like interaction and behavior from celebs. I think Cumberbatch came off best when he was on with Chris Pine.

It’s getting a little too canned and commercial the last couple of seasons, though… regularly having two guests promoting the same movie starts to feel like a rehearsed infomercial (e.g. last weekend, McConaughey and Hathaway, I couldn’t even), instead of the great unexpected chemistry you used to get with random American actor – British actor – British comedian couches.

The best episode of all time IMO was Adele – Jack Whitehall – Miranda Hart. Such great chemistry and wit! Love Adele’s hula-hooping dress story, not knowing she had to pay utilities, and Hart and Whitehall’s public school (i.e. private school in the UK) stories.

  2. Abbott says:

    I’m vaguely interested…

    Deer in headlights.

  4. juniper says:

Sigh… tell me again about what kind of lover SHerlock would be.

  5. PunkyMomma says:

I just want to go off on a dirty rant about my Otter’s nest. But I won’t.

  6. Marcy says:

He’s headed to the States…bedlam to ensue.

Hoping for Kimmel, Ellen, Fallon, Myers, Letterman (?)–maybe not, Conan, Daily Show. Lot’s of Cumby talk. Bring it…

    • MissMary says:

IDK… I don’t think he’ll do Letterman again. the last time was so odd and Letterman was just half-assing it… If he does the late night stuff here I bet it’ll be Fallon and Conan again though I’d love to see him on Colbert or TDS.

      • blended says:

i think it’s up to harvey which shows he does 😉
i’d love for him to do daily show or colbert.

      • MissMary says:

lol between Harvey and Karon, I’m sure he’ll be on one or two talkies before his trip stateside is over.

      • Encumbered says:

OMG…let it be Charlie Rose on PBS! Most other talk shows are just fluff comparatively. The subject of Alan Turing would be treated appropriately on Rose, as would an actor of BC’s caliber.

      • MissMary says:

I’d love to see that! OMG can you imagine the wtfery if he went on Inside the Actor’s Studio?

      • Encumbered says:

MissMary–that questionnaire James Lipton (the host) hits guests with on Inside the Actor’s Studio would be most entertaining! Imagine how BC would answer:

        1. What is your favorite word?
        2. What is your least favorite word?
        3. What turns you on creatively, spiritually or emotionally?
        4. What turns you off?
        5. What is your favorite curse word?
        6. What sound or noise do you love?
        7. What sound or noise do you hate?
        8. What profession other than your own would you like to attempt?
        9. What profession would you not like to do?
        10. If Heaven exists, what would you like to hear God say when you arrive at the Pearly Gates?

      • MissMary says:

        That. Would. Be. Awesome.

    • Maria says:

See if he does Charlie Rose or even 60 Minutes.

  7. Felice says:

I’m vaguely done with the campaigning and it’s only November.

    • Intro Outro says:

*looks at the calendar and is vaguely horrified that there are 111 days left till Feb 22*

  8. Veronica says:

He’s such a great actor, but honestly, he strikes me as so pretentious in any interview he does. The ice bucket challenge video was probably the most I’ve ever liked him personally, since he took five minutes to stop taking himself so seriously.

    • Zazie says:

      @Veronica
I agree. The ice bucket challenge was funny. When he feels the need to explain the world to his dedicated fans, it´s always a bit … precocious. He is clever, but sometimes he pretends to know everything.

    • Green Eyes says:

Well, going by the fact that there are only 11 responses to this Cumberbatch thread and it’s been a good few hours since it was first posted, I think many a Cumberbitch’s love is waning for Lord Cumby. I have to say that I’ve started to lose the Cumberlove, myself. Though, to be honest, my fantasy of Lord Cumby is having my way with him albeit with his mouth firmly taped shut. He does have such a lovely voice, but what comes out of his mouth sometimes makes me cringe and roll my eyes right up into my head.

I’ve seriously got to get another Brit actor to garner a crush on. I am waiting for Masterpiece (and Rebecca Eaton!) to introduce me to my next BritLove. I’ve met all my boys there: Tom Hardy, Eddie Redmayne, Emun Elliott and of course, our dear Lord Cumby. I try getting into TH, but I don’t fancy him in the least. I think he’s a good actor, but I just don’t fancy him.

      Sigh.

      • HBIC says:

Well, there were like, 5 Cumby articles last week… all about pretty much the same thing. Perhaps there is just nothing left to talk about at this point in time.

The Cumby fans might just be fatigued today… that’s all.

      • Felice says:

Oh darling, I sold my soul away a long time ago. Honestly unless he says something really extremely insulting and not just Cumby not using a filter, context, and/or thinking he knows a topic, I’ll still be here lol.

      • Anne tommy says:

Last sentence by Green eyes sums up what I feel about Benny, while TH on the other hand is just lovely. I look at Benny threads even if it’s a quick skip over. The Turing film looks interesting, but the accents seem odd. While Benny is already quite posh in the accents department, as is ikea Nightly, the poshness seemed to be turned up to 11 and was a bit distracting in the clips.

      • blended says:

i’m betting his articles still get tons of clicks. actual number of comments don’t really reflect much, especially considering there’s a cumberpost almost daily. i should also add that his popularity with the general public is at an all time high, going by people i know, and the fact that TIG is introducing him to a whole new audience. in any case i think it’s better that people get turned on to him because of his work, rather than the gossipy stuff. just my opinion.

      • Old Enough says:

How about Tom Mison? I know Sleepy Hollow is a bit silly. He also played Potty Perowne in Parade’s End.

      • Maggie says:

        @ Blended.
I agree. I would much prefer that people get to know Benedict through his work rather than any gossip filled articles. That is how I was introduced to him and it is still the thing I appreciate most. If I have to read one more comment about that secret girlfriend nonsense I will scream. LOL

  9. Kazlock 1307 says:

I usually wait for an opportunity to get a dig in at SH before I post.

  10. Marcy says:

    I’ve fallen for a new Ben…McKenzie.

  11. Encumbered says:

I’ve been lost in listening to the BBC trailer. His voice caresses the Bard’s words and I am left in a bit of an exhausted, seduced heap.

I adore this mama’s boy–he is one for all the right reasons.

  12. Kazlock 1307 says:

MissMary… Hope the new poster on the previous thread knows we didn’t abandon her lol.

  13. Kristen83 says:

Awww, old thread is closed. But, yeah, benedict is most definitely a Momma’s boy. But, Wanda seems like one of those cool moms. I’d so want to have a drink and chat with her.

    • Old Enough says:

oh me too! I bet she’d be a kick!

    • MissMary says:

I got a kick out of the fact he happily and readily moved back in with his folks while having his home renovated a while back and even gave an interview to Caitlin Moran *gag* whilst chilling with them over Sunday dinner.

  14. Kristen83 says:

Oh kaz-we haven’t had a sighting of her in what 2 weeks. I looked at eb(it’s like a train wreck, you just can’t look away), I’m assuming since there hasn’t been any juicy “sightings” that they have to dissect the LFF to death to prove “forever love.” Every single person invited to it had an umbrella handler, she was the only one who used hers the whole way.

    • MissMary says:

^^This. Frankly, if this is what the posters there think is “true love” and how a couple in love act, I feel sorry for their romantic lives.

      • Kazlock 1307 says:

The umbrella girl posts were nothing compared to the ‘wrong’ poster though.

She swears all the Twitter and instagram sightings have been definatly confirmed!

Brighton server is supposed to have confirmed it was Miss Stickupherarse and even mentioned how thin her legs were! It’s for real because the poster saw it!

      • MissMary says:

I don’t know whether to laugh, roll my eyes, or both, lol. I’ll go with both. Well, sounds like some people need hobbies. Wait, I saw a post about Bigfoot so it must be true, right? I saw it!

      • Kazlock 1307 says:

MissMary it must be true! You’ve seen it!

Brighton girl’s instagram mentioned someone being snobby. That’s the only thing I’ve seen mentioned in regards to a description. Not sure if anyone else has seen differently.

      • MissMary says:

IIRC, Linz pointed out that whatever the IG was replying to was deleted, so no one knows. could’ve been SH being with him or even “Sophie Hunter is pretty” just out of context or “what do you think of so and so at work?” and nothing to do with SH at all. Who knows.

The only “confirmation” exists in the minds of EB posters.

      • Kazlock 1307 says:

According to EB(2 posts),the question asks if his gf is pretty.Girl replied yes,but snobby.

      • MissMary says:

Well, since no one for sure saw it, it could also be “Is Mary from work pretty?” “Do you think Sophie Hunter is pretty?” “Is his mother pretty?” The fact remains, the question was deleted, no one knows what was said, and the whole thing is EB posters in a froth.

      • Linz says:

(Team SH) posters are becoming more and more desperate and creepy on EB. Look at how certain some of them were, that SH was the brunette in the behind the scenes ELLE photos. You can clearly tell that it’s NOT her. Many (Team SH) posters don’t even question some of the “sightings.”

A girl Tweeted she saw Benedict in Paris with a “chick.” Not a girlfriend, not SH… a “chick.” They automatically assumed that it was SH. They make up their own stories (He went there to buy SH a dress, he went there to buy new clothes, they went there for a romantic getaway, etc, etc) Where is the PROOF? The designer of the dress has a Studio in London, why would they go to Paris for it? They ignore the sneaky pic of Benedict, eating a sandwich alone in Paris. The person who took the pic, said that Benedict was alone the entire time. The fan who got a pic with Benedict, both him and his friend said Benedict was alone. They ignore that.

They ignore the people who said that Benedict was alone on the flight to Edinburgh. They ignore the fact, that after the Botanical Gardens guy was shown a pic of SH, that he couldn’t say for sure SH was the woman he saw. The girl who was on the same flight as Benedict, her story was all over the place. “Not sure, pretty sure, They were close, They seemed close, etc, etc” Magically, she could see everything they were doing, even though she was several rows behind them? They ignore the inconsistencies. Don’t question her story.

The woman who Tweeted that she saw Benedict walking with a “Mystery woman.” She deleted and re-posted the Tweet 3 times. (That is not odd/suspicious) People poked holes in her story. (Benedict was filming GN) She ended up deleting her Tweet. Posters on EB, said she did it because of the “BC Nannies.” No, she did it because people were calling her out. She claims she “lives” near him. Yet, decided to randomly Tweet about him walking with a “mystery woman?” (That is not odd/suspicious) Again, they ignore the inconsistencies. The fact that he was filming GN.

No one really cares about the Brighton “sighting” (Only the people on EB care.) Because Brighton girl NEVER said, that he was with SH or his “girlfriend.”

      • MissMary says:

ALL OF THIS YES! Like I said on the other thread, EB just needs to change it’s name to “Thirsty SH Fans” and get it over with.

    • MissLou-Lou says:

Sometimes I have to wonder how old some of the EB anons are b/c in what universe does ‘forever love’ equate to a few sightings and an umbrella handler at a premiere? I used to have a tumblr, but when all the SH stuff started, I got rid of it,mainly because everyone was all of a sudden Team Sophie, even though there was nothing concrete. I don’t hate the woman – I don’t know anything about her tbh, but just b/c she’s seen with BC a few times doesn’t mean I’m automatically going to be a Team Sophie member. I just cant wrap my head around *why* so many ‘fans’ are so invested in whether or not they are in love ‘5-evah’. All I want to be able to do is to watch the man work, enjoy what he does and have the ability to make snarky comments when he does/says/wears something stupid. Without the fannies/nannies jumping on me and accusing me of being a hater or denier.

      • MissMary says:

It amuses me on some level because he was far more affectionate with Lydia Hearst and people railed about how that wasn’t “proof” of a relationship (despite his PR *actually saying they were seeing each other but casually and nothing serious–basically, FWB). But here is SH, never papped WITH him, not sitting with him at events or venues, not even entering a restaurant with him or leaving with him, and suddenly it’s Princess Bride true love. Given how he’s treated even his most casual gfs in the past, I’m very hard pressed to believe this is how he acts with someone he’s supposed to be in “true love” with.

      • MissLouLou says:

lol MissMary, he’s more affectionate with his male friends than he is with SH. And ditto with the hard pressed to believe comment. Pics of him with OP and AJ show me how affectionate he is with the women he loves. I don’t see any of that with SH at all. If this is his great romance, if she is ‘the one’ then I feel saddened for him that it looks so cold.

      • Kristen83 says:

I would most likely say those girls are in their teens, who probably have books like the twilight series and (I may get some flack for this) the fault in our stars as reference to how love should be. Now, I only watched the movie of TFIOS, I didn’t read the book. but it just seemed like it romanticized cancer. That being said, I have to think how when I was a teen and I was in love with Leonardo D. in his titanic days. What I am trying to say is, they are young and haven’t really lived in the real world yet. Or I hope not.

And yes, benedict shows way more affection to james and Adam than we have seen with sophie. Heck, he has shown more affection to some fans than her. Not saying they are not friends, but as a romantic couple, I say negative.

      • MissLouLou says:

@Kristen83, I’m about to date myself here, but I remember my ahem, obsession with New Kids on The Block as a teen. So i know what its like to feel strongly about someone. However, I was certainly not as obsessed with their love lives as it seems some BC fans are. I just hope that with a little maturity and some RL experience they will come to see what love is and not what books and movies show.

      • Kristen83 says:

@misslou-oh new kids on the block, my sister was the big new kids fan. I was a backstreet girl. I don’t think I was as invested in their love lives like these kids are. At least I hope not.

    • Anon says:

I read EB sometimes and the impression I get is lotsa posters dislike SH there. They call her Sanka, Faux Frenchy, Floral Ho, the Huntress, and (my fave) Octopussy LOL, and comment on her lackluster career, her snooty mannerisms; her lack of curves and pretentious “art”. The dislike is obvious as posts which criticize her usually get much more likes than those praising her. Sure you get a fair number of posts insisting Ben and SH are a couple but these are usually met with retort. And many have called out that the pro-SH posts are likely made by the same person multiple times as the writing style is very similar (excessive use of exclamation marks for instance).

  15. MissMary says:

Between the Telegraph interview and the one for NPR, it seems like BC or his PR folks are trying to steer away from the “I’m a sexy beast” thing he was attempting… Then again, if they were done at an earlier time than the Out and Elle interviews, then n/m. I don’t doubt for one moment that he is aware of fan and general response to his interviews and perceived attitudes, etc, and will adjust accordingly, esp if he’s in awards mode.

    • Kazlock 1307 says:

MissMary.. I think the Telegraph was done more recently than Elle. They mention Richard lll filming and that didn’t start until September. Elle interview was August I think.

Linz..so I’m right when I posted (on EB and here),that none of the sightings of SH have been positively confirmed?
They, and I’m pretty sure a lot of it is Senyorita and anons associated with her,are quoting the Instagram account of the Brighton girl as being solid proof.
Another anon posted that the only positive sightings oh them anywhere near each other were FO,The Hay Festival, LFF and Quaglinos. All other is speculation. She was slated for it,again by SH nannies.

      • Linz says:

        @Kazlock

“Confirmed” sightings: Hay Festival, French Open, Richard III, Bright Young Things Gala, James Rhodes Wedding, LFF and Quaglinos

Unconfirmed SH sightings/Speculation/Conflicting accounts: Italy, Greece, The Secret Cinema, Elbow Concert, National Theatre (group outing) with Anna Wintour, Paris, Grocery store, Edinburgh, Flight from Edinburgh to London, Brighton

      • MissMary says:

And keep in mind the “confirmed” sightings…most of them were either with other people involved as well (Hay Festival, hanging out w/Loo Brealey and SH was also there to work,) BYT–no sighting *together*. Quaglinos–arrived in separate cars, did not enter or leave as a couple. LFF…well, we’ve been over that no end.

The NPR interview was relatively recent as well, I think so it sounds (to me anyway, and again, cynical pants here lol) that he/his team are trying to get away from the style of interview that was getting him some mocking/annoyed fans or they’re trying to minimize any wharrgarrble from fans who felt he was being dismissive or plain rude (the florals comment, etc).

And always keep in mind on anon sites…you have no idea how many of the anons are the same person looking to support a narrative in quantity rather than quality.

      • MissLouLou says:

I’ve made a couple of anon posts over at EB regarding the ‘sightings’, particularly the Paris and Edi ones but get shot down in flames when I try using logic instead of frenetic fangirl flailing. I keep trying to point out that apart from one tweet that said BC was seen with a girl in Paris, there was never any proof it was SH. I mean, it was his dads 75th bday. The man adores his parents – would he ditch them for a weekend in Paris with SH? And as for the flight back from Edi sighting. Someone else mentioned that the girl who tweeted was several rows behind BC. I don’t know about you, but how much of the people several rows in front of you can you really see in a plane? Last time I flew it wasn’t a whole lot. But you even try to be logical, factual or hell, even sane when it comes to BC and SH, sometimes you get jumped. But I am thankful to EB for one thing – leading me here! 🙂

      • Kazlock 1307 says:

        Misslou-Lou and MissMary
Don’t take a peak at EB just yet. They’re still yacking about umbrella girl and how obvious it is that she was treated differently.
And the bloody dress! And bloody Paris,Rome,Greece,Brighton and Edinburgh!

We’re all in denial. He’s with her out of obligation because he’s knocked her up.Need I go on or do you get the general idea?

Although quite a few posts seem to be calling time on some of the bs.

      • Linz says:

They are so desperate on EB. And it’s getting worse.

I saw another poster mention Benedict buying the dress in Paris. The Designer has a shop in London. So why would Benedict go to Paris to buy it?

“for all we know BC could have bought it for her if it wasn’t loaned. Maybe while they were away in Paris the weekend before (if it was her which I think it was)”
        (Poster on EB)

Where is the PROOF? Again, the girl who saw Benedict in Paris, said “a chick.” Not SH, Not Girlfriend…. “a chick.” There is no proof/confirmation that it was SH.

      • MissLouLou says:

Kazlock, yes I made the mistake of visiting just before. Is it just me, or does the frenetic ‘they’re together, its true love, its special treatment’ screeching becoming more shrill, like the lack of sightings have sent the believers into some kind of SH-withdrawal? The posts calling time on some of the bs seem to be getting snowed under by the ‘omg she’s special, its special, you’re pathetic because you dont believe’ posts. I’d take a break from reading it, but it makes me laugh so much.

      • Kazlock 1307 says:

        MisslouLou
        Team SH are becoming rabid!
Swear to God if I see the words’ umbrella girl’ once more I’ll bitchslap someone!
They haven’t been able to link(even loosely) Miss Stickupherarse with BC for over a week.So they’ve decided to remind us how important she is to him by rehashing crap from weeks ago.
And they say we’re in denial?

      • MissMary says:

OMG I am not even going over there but it sounds like maybe there’s one or two dedicated SH fangirls who are snowballing the mess. Either that or SH has a strange clutch of fans who think they’ve found nirvana, someone recognizing her “delicate, noble beauty” and “shy mannerisms” *I still gag about that comment* The umbrella bs is more entitled behavior than “being special”. Hell, look at every legit celeb that went up that carpet–each one took the brolly from their “handler” and carried it their own damn selves. BC didn’t even walk next to SH, or go look for her, or sit next to her, or probably even look at her (that last part I’m guessing) all night, esp judging by first hand accounts of the LFF.

Any other sighting–several were disproved (she was in another country for the ones in Italy/Greece, iirc…and how quickly they forget that they were SO SURE it was KB with him in Italy/Greece) and the Paris sighting…everyone with legit pics and sightings saw him *solo*. Not a trace of SH anywhere to be found in pics, fan sightings, nada. So let the hand-wringers on EB have their flail. If he does show up with her again, they can feel smugly vindicated but, if we don’t see more of her, the rest of us won’t be shocked.

    • MissLouLou says:

@Linz I KNOW, right? That’s all I’m saying. Proof. But again, frenetic fangirl flailing seems to outweigh cold, sane rationale.

And I’m not being too bitchy here, am I? :/

    • MissLouLou says:

@Kazlock IKR. The whole SH, TIG, UG, dress saga is just ugh. Lack of sightings and people go nuts. Sightings and people go nuts. As i said before, I’m fairly new to the while BC thing, only 6 or so months into the Cumberlove so its all still a little startling to me to see such…devotion?

      • MissMary says:

I say this as a fan of his work since his Starter for Ten role ages ago… I’m sure he’s going to put his foot in his mouth soon, or go off radar for filming, and the frenzy will die down.

  16. Kazlock 1307 says:

So lots of bs floating around?

  17. Encumbered says:

Well, here is something entertaining. Be certain to read the comments under the gifs…

And…suppose he, ah, hurt a bit after this? lol….

  18. Kristen83 says:

Encumbered-That might be the best thing I have seen all day!!! At least smaug looked and sounded amazing in the final produced.

  19. Kristen83 says:

Missmary-I looked up a smaug scene on youtube and damn it……you’re right:)!!! Hahaha.

  20. MissLouLou says:

Back to the original article, I have dated a mama’s boy before, I have also dated someone who could barely stand his mother and tbh I would take mama’s boy any day of the week. Despite the issues it caused and can sometimes cause, I found mama’s boy to be a better person all around. Yes, not always the case, but for my personal taste, mama’s boy wins every time. So I have no issues with BC and his love for Wanda. I too would love to have tea with her, she would be an awesome person to chat with.

Announcement in The Times. His engagement to Stickupherarse….

    Lost all respect for him

    • Lindy79 says:

Can’t imagine it’s fake, the Times would have checkers before these announcements.

This makes the premier carry on seem even weirder now, so he’ll announce in the Times he’s marrying her but wont walk a f*cking red carpet with her or walk inside a restaurant…
If you want to be private then BE private.
      Tom Hardy managed it.

      All very strange carry on

      • Kazlock 1307 says:

        Lindy79
Agree 100%.Lost s great deal of respect for him over all this fiasco.
Taking a step back from it.
He definatly doesn’t act or look like s man in love, but let them both get on with it.
        Done with it

      • Nic says:

Yep. Weirdest thing ever. Not to mention they can only have been ‘dating’ since end of may.

      • MissLouLou says:

WTF engaged? How the…who the…I am speechless. He does not look like a man in love and I am just so saddened fir him. God. I hole its not just desperation. And when the frick is he going to find time for marriage and kids? Sorry BC but my time with you was short. No respect. Love your work but nope, this is it forme.

    • Claire says:

Yes, I don’t want to not like him, but it’s nothing like who he seems to be. We know he is IN REAL LIFE this warm and giving person, even if he’s a bit posh and self-involved. But her? She can’t possibly keep him happy in the long term. She’s stuck up and have you seen her friends? Gross. Nothing but trust fund babies.

    • Claire says:

So anyone wanna disagree with me that he settled? He was getting desperate, maybe his mother was pushing him, and he went through with it to take the pressure off? (He talked about the pressure from the public in the Elle interview).

I never thought he’d do something so brash and ill-advised. I hope it doesn’t ruin his spirit when it goes south…

  22. Noisy Bird says:

seems bizarre but apparently his publicist has confirmed it. He still does not seem like a man in love, but who am I to judge?

    • Lindy79 says:

Its a HUGE leap. In 4 weeks she’s been out with him in public but not “with” him and now they’re engaged. They could have dated, not acted like knobs then gone off and got married with no one knowing. Now it’ll be “WeddingBatch Watch 2014/2015”

If they wanted total privacy an announcement in the Times is not the way I would have gone about it.

  23. Sally says:

I think the fact that they are not all over each other in public confirms how much they are in love, very private and personal. He seems like an intelligent man who wouldn’t chose somebody who was “snobby” or unloving. Nobody knows her and shouldn’t judge their relationship, congratulations to them both. I have a friend who knows them both (a theatre actress here in London) and they have known each other a long time so he must be sure. Sophie is known to be shy and that can come across as cold if she feels uncomfortable.

    • Lindy79 says:

“I think the fact that they are not all over each other in public confirms how much they are in love, very private and personal.”

I don’t get that logic but I understand every couple is different. Having seen a bit of her “work” online I wouldn’t call her shy but I know very little about her, or him for that matter other than what they put out there.

    • Nic says:

Sophie is not known to be shy. That’s nonsense. Nobody knows her to be shy. She gets her tits out and wriggles around with an octopus and flails her limbs around the floor with a cushion up her dress pretending to be pregnant in the name of art.
They have not been ‘hiding’ or keeping things under wraps, hence her grand and unecessary entrance onto the red carpet at TIG premiere. And the attending a pap heavy restaurant with the associated utter weirdness in the car was very strange. He’s looked stressed and very much not like a man in love to me. Not to mention the sheer lack of any chemistry whatsoever. And chemistry is nothing to do who PDA etc.. It’s intangible. There’s nothing.
And someone I know saw them at hay and they were unaware they were being ‘watched’. She said there was no seeming connection at all. I also don’t believe you have a friend who knows them both. Sorry.

      • Lindy79 says:

The nannies are out in force on IMDB (I HAD to look).
Nic, I just think the whole thing is odd, they’ve gone from acting like they want to be private and not wanting to be photographed together (but not really) to an announcement in the Times which is the opposite of private.

Its nice and traditional if you’re into that sort of thing but makes no sense at all and coupled with the carry on of them both when together in public, it’s all just far too stiff upper lip and hoity-toity for me. He’s had more chemistry with every other girl he’s been seen with.

      • Kazlock 1307 says:

        That!
Totally don’t get why they’ve acted the way they have.
        Welcome to each other.

      • Claire says:

Kaz, are you as disappointed as me? I’m shocked. I didn’t think he’d settle. Especially with someone like her.

    • Freebunny says:

Love the argument that he would only chose a wonderful woman cause he’s such a charming prince himself.
Sorry but he proved he could be a d%ck in the past so marrying a snobby posh untalented girl isn’t totally unexpected.

      • MissMary says:

        This.

      • Claire says:

Nah. We all screw up. My friends are lovely, kind, generous, forgiving. They all say shit things some times. I do believe he is a decent person. I am shocked he chose a stuck up girl who only hangs out with pretentious super rich, hypenated surname types. I think he was desperate and decided to settle so he could have a family. He isn’t thinking in the long term.

  24. Freebunny says:

Lol @ the most pathetic couple ever,
    Congrats I guess.

  25. MissMary says:

Seriously? WOW. Well. congrats, I guess… Just…wow. Ugh and wow. I’ll keep my thoughts to myself on how this will pan out but this was the most effed up “courtship” ever and I can see this will be “interesting”. Still a huge fan of his work though. Just kind of done with his publicity.
