Angelina Jolie claims she doesn’t mind that gossip rags misconstrue her comments and take them out of context, because when she’s dead people won’t talk any more smack about her.

In yet another interview to air on Dateline NBC and the Today show tomorrow, she says she’s not hiding anything, that she realizes that people want to attack her, and that she doesn’t understand that but is ok with it. Once she’s gone, all we’ll talk about is what a great mom and actress she was anyway:

“There’s nothing I have to hide or defend,” the actress, 31, tells Ann Curry for an interview scheduled to run Wednesday on both the Today show and Dateline NBC.

“I’m gonna live my life,” Jolie continues. “There are gonna be times when people wanna try to attack me and I don’t know why, but they will. And that’s okay. … There are other things I’m more concerned about. My kids are healthy. I have a lot I want to do in this world. …I wanna do a lot of things as a woman, as a mom, and – and that’s my focus.”

When it comes to herself, “I have always been honest about who I am, and I’ve always been very outspoken to press,” says Jolie. “I think people have heard a lot from me over the years. …[If] people wanna believe negative things, they will. … I can’t help that.

“At the end of the day,” she continues, “I’m gonna be dead one day. And what people say about me is gonna be what I accomplished and what I did in my life and how my children are.”

At first I was like “Who talks like that? Is she ok?” But then I realized that her mom just died in January, which is probably why she’s thinking about her own mortality.

It kind of amazes me how heated the comments get about Brad and Angelina, and how firmly on one side or another people stand. She’s not at the top of my favorite celebrities list, but I don’t despise her either. Celebrities that are open, genuine and non-controversial like Jennifer Garner, Johnny Depp and Jennifer Love Hewitt are easier to like.

Maybe if my husband left me for a coworker I would have a stronger opinion about Angelina. As it is, she still surprises me with how much she’s willing to talk when all the rags do is try and tear her down with every comment she makes.

She has to do some press to promote A Mighty Heart, which is out on June 22 in the states, but surely she could wait a while before talking about herself – again.

Brad has a new tattoo on his arm of the mummy Oetzi, who is over 3,000 years old and was found in an Italian iceberg, while Angelina has a new tattoo of an “M” on her right palm. Brad must be thinking about how fleeting his time on earth is if he chose a tattoo of a mummy, while Angelina’s “M” is thought to be for her oldest son, Maddox. Angelina has also added another line of coordinates to the longitude and latitude of her children’s birthplaces on her left upper arm. They could be for her newly adopted son, Pax.
