John Mayer was seen with a shit-eating grin on his face leaving Jessica Simpson’s NY hotel suite and the two were also spotted out on a date post-breakup.

The off-and-on couple reunited in New York City on Sunday night, sources close to the situation tell PEOPLE.

“They saw each other last night. I have no idea what will happen with them tomorrow,” says one source. “I don’t think they’re sure. All I know is that they like each other and saw each other. Everyone’s waiting to see what’s going to happen.”

A source close to Simpson chalks up the couple’s recent break to the usual romantic ups and downs.

“They’re in a normal relationship,” says the source. “This happens with relationships sometimes.”

Adds the source: “They went on a date last night. They had a great time. They had dinner.”

The guy I dated before my husband was like that. He kept telling me he needed time off, that he wanted more time to play video games and buy shit on eBay, but he always wanted to get back together again when he got lonely.

Those men do not change, and they just drag you along on their rollercoaster ride of not being able to commit or deal with intimacy.

Jessica needs to move on and find another guy who is ready for a long term relationship like her ex, Nick Lachey. Those men are the exception, and when you find one you need to hold on to him and not screw it up like Jessica did.

Commitment-phobe geeks like Mayer will always be more interested in their gadgets than the gorgeous woman that’s all too willing to give up everything for them.

There were stories that Mayer thought Jessica gained too much weight, or that she dressed too slutty for him. Do you think it would have mattered to that guy? He was looking for any excuse. Now he’s realizing what he’s been missing, but he’s not going to change and Simpson needs to get some self esteem and find a guy that appreciates her.
