Liv Tyler on her famous friends: ‘I haven’t seen Gwyneth for a year’

T&C Dec Jan Cover - Liv Tyler_edited-1
Liv Tyler covers Town & Country wearing what I think is the same Armani Prive tulle polka dot gown that Sarah Paulson wore to the Emmys. The dress and cover are striking, but the rest of the editorial is a snooze. Liv wears gloves with jewelry and a veil. It’s not a real “theme”

The accompanying interview is similar to other profiles I’ve read of Tyler. The journalist fawns over her and finds her lovely, vulnerable and refreshingly down to earth. Liv has just moved to a country home in Hudson, NY about two hours north of the city. She goes shopping for antiques and stops to eat lunch, during which she talks about glad she is to no longer be on a diet now that she’s pregnant for the second time. She doesn’t open up at all about her relationship to her baby’s father, but she does talk about being pregnant and buying a country home and how everything kind of came together for her in the past year. Liv is congenial throughout the interview, except when she’s asked about her famous friends. At that point she shows “a hint of impatience.”

On being pregnant with her second child:
“The most fun thing about being pregnant again is having those mom hormones flowing around. You’re more present in your body, and it’s making me a better mother for Milo.”

On HBO’s The Leftovers, in which she plays the part of Meg:
“When I heard the premise, I thought, ‘That’s right up my street.’ I’m attracted to things that are a little off. Growing up I was a huge fan of The Twilight Zone, Twin Peaks, and Creepshow – things that don’t provide all the answers. Normally I’d say I’m not a competitive person; I kind of think things happen for a reason. But for the first time in my life I really went for a role.”

On what a whirlwind year 2014 has been for her:
“I mean, for seven years I’d been saying I wanted to do an HBO show with an ensemble cast. And I wanted a house in the country. And getting to have another child? If you knew me well, they were the things my heart longed for. And they all came together, like a speeding freight train, in one year.”

On why she purchased a country home in Hudson, New York:
“My real personality comes out in the country. More spontaneous, more excited. There’s always someone watching you in the city – you’re a sort of zoo animal. My true nature is to want to hide a bit.”

On her friendships with famous people
The press likes to focus on my friendships with Stella, Kate Hudson, and Gwyneth Paltrow. And I love them all. But, for example, I haven’t seen Gwyneth for a year! I have connections just as strong and deep with people who don’t have famous parents.

[From Town and Country]

Liv was there with her 20 years older platonic male friend so maybe that’s why she was emphasizing that her non-famous friends are more a part of her life than her famous friends. Still, it was funny to me like she was saying that there are women she poses with at events and there are friends who have her back. This is the closest Liv will come to throwing shade.

As for her pregnancy, I’m glad she’s happy and that she feels like this year has been fulfilling for her. I do hope she knows what she’s getting into as she’s only been dating her current boyfriend, British sports manager Dave Gardner, since May. The T&C article states that she first met him seven years ago, though, when Kate Moss introduced them.

    Ready for it?

SHE’S WEARING THAT DRESS THAT I KIND OF LOVE! It’s everything.

    • Kiddo says:

      I like it too!

      • mimf says:

Kiddo, I’m not going to link it (because the mods have a hard enough time filtering through all my spammy spam spammer posts), but did you see the Paulson article where she owned that dress? I kind of need it in my everyday repertoire, it’s just that good.

    • minime says:

I think I have something. Was that shade when she said “I have connections just as strong and deep with people who don’t have famous parents” instead of saying “famous people”. There. Only part I read…she looks pretty though.

      • Kori says:

I caught that as well. I don’t know if she means anything or it just came out or if it was subconscious or what. But she’s the child of famous parents so maybe that was a bonding thing with the others, who knows?

      • minime says:

        @ Kori
Yes, I thought it could be that also (maybe what brought them together?). Still, it was interesting. I think it’s kind of nice that she also takes in that way…she is the daughter of someone known more than she is known for her own work. She seems to be a nice easy going person.

      • INeedANap says:

I said the same thing down below! Glad I wasn’t the only one who caught that.

      • She herself fits the category, though, so I don’t know whether it’s really shade.

  2. QQ says:

she looks so so pretty ( I STILL love that dress btw!!)

  3. bns says:

    I love her.

  4. Jaderu says:

I wonder if her baby will have emoting eyebrows.

    My work here is done.
    BLAM! Dun du du duhhhhh!

  5. Jenns says:

    I always liked her.

  6. Courtney says:

    Love Liv.

  7. Josefa says:

Aerosmith’s “Crazy” video was on TV this morning. Liv hasn’t aged a week since then. Her skin is so perfect!

Love her. Very underrated actress and has always striked me as someone very smart and humble.

    • Kori says:

Her coloring is to die for and she obviously takes care of her skin. You can see that even in paparazzi and instagram photos. She may have had work but, if she did, it’s perfection because she looks more mature than the Armageddon years but not visibly older in terms of wrinkles, etc…I’ve always had a soft spot for her. She seems sweet and down-to-Earth despite (or because of) her unorthodox upbringing.

  8. Luciana says:

Stunning lady! So beautiful to look at.

  9. Sisi says:

I love every shade of lipstick here

  10. whatsmyname? says:

She is super pretty and I love the dress on the cover.

  11. BJ says:

I have the impression that she is a really lovely person and she stayed like that despite working in the showbiz almost 20 years and have a father like Steven Tyler.

Quite frankly I’m kind of surprised she is freind with the GOOP, although manybe it tells you how friendly person Liv is.

She looks stunningly pretty in the pictures. As almost always.

    • Bella bella says:

She didn’t know about Steven Tyler being her father until she was an adult.

      • CassWB says:

Liv knows about Steven being her father since 1991. She was 13.
Her mother was a sex groupie for rockers during a long time so Liv’s real father was mystery for a very short time.

      • BJ says:

        CassWB

Then it’s more impressive that she become so grounded. Although I know her grandmother is a very classy LADY so maybe Liv inherited a lot from her in that perspective.

By the way if I remember correctly part of the reason Bebe Buell doesn’t told Liv that Steven is her farther, becasue back then they feared Tyler’s lifestyle will kill him sooner then later and they didn’t want to Liv to have a dead dad in a very young age.

    • CassWB says:

      Yes. You are right.
Judging by what I read on the net Liv is always nice and kind to everyone that’s awesome.

  12. rentho says:

she is so pretty and seem very nice…..did anyone else read the interview in her voice 🙂

  13. INeedANap says:

I love that when she refers to Stella, Kate, and Gwyneth, she doesn’t refer to them as famous people but as people who have famous parents. I always thought Liv Tyler was pretty self-aware, and knew a lot of her success came from her family name, so I think she was throwing some shade to the other women — reminding them that they would be nothing without their pedigree.

    • Josefa says:

I think Liv is far too classy to throw shade at anybody, but I agree about the self-awareness. Ireland Baldwin and Emma Roberts should take notes from this woman. People won’t mind nepotism if:
      A) You actually have the talent to be in the spotlight anyway.
      B) Don’t act like a brat about it.

  14. Melody says:

    Wasn’t that Sarah Paulson’s much-ridiculed dress from the Emmy’s?

  15. Sumodo1 says:

I just checked images: yes, yes it is! In truthiness, Liv wears it better.

    • Melody says:

She seems more comfortable in her own skin than Paulson – which makes just about everything look better on you.

  16. Patricia says:

I want her life now! Second baby, beautiful, wealthy, and living in what is sure to be a gorgeous home in Hudson, NY. Hudson is sooooo breathtaking. I drove through on my way from Vermont to Philly, stopped for a little while, didn’t ever want to leave.

  17. Reece says:

Oooh The Blood Splatter dress. idk I think it’s better in editorial.

Love Liv! Nothing else to say to that.

  18. Bella bella says:

I believe as a child she spent a lot of her time in Woodstock, so it is no surprise that she bought a house in Hudson, which is nearby though across the river. I used to see her (and Uma Thurman, actually, though not together) at the fruit stand in Woodstock and she is crazy tall and has a really normal body and a naturally beautiful face. She also seemed like a regular person so I totally believe it that she has good friends outside the business.

    • lucy2 says:

That is a beautiful area! I like that she’s found a house out in the country for her and her family.

  19. Lauren says:

Liv Tyler is my girl crush. I swear she is in my opinion one of the most stunning women ever.

  20. Meg says:

after her divorce, i wanted her and joaquin to get back together
