Madonna says her stolen song leaks are ‘artistic rape’ & ‘a form of terrorism’

madonna1

Madonna has been working on a new album for a while. I think it’s been taking so long because Madonna had to wait for her face transplant to “take” because seriously you guys, she has a different face now. Anyway, a few weeks ago, some tracks from the new album were “leaked”. From where I sat, the music leaks weren’t that big of a deal. They caused some buzz on the Madonna forums and with some Madonna-loonies, but most people just shrugged. I had a moment where I thought, “Hm, I wonder if Madonna leaked those tracks to increase the buzz around her new album?” But she didn’t leak them. Because Madonna WENT OFF about the leaks in a now-deleted Instagram post. And of course, Madonna being the personification of modest reflection and utterly appropriate metaphors, compared the leaks to rape and terrorism.

Madonna was, understandably, not amused when a version of her yet-to-be-announced 2015 album leaked online. The 56-year-old singer dismissed the songs as “unfinished demos stolen long ago,” noting in an Instagram post Wednesday that the tracks “are not ready to be presented to the world.” She addressed her fans directly, too, writing, “Thank you for not listening! Thank you for your loyalty!”

She expressed some real frustration, though, with a controversial follow-up Instagram post (which has since been deleted). In it, she wrote, “This is artistic rape!! These are early leaked demo’s half of which wont even make it on my album the other half have changed and evolved.”

“This is a form of terrorism,” she went on. “Wtf!!!! Why do people want to destroy artistic process??? Why steal? Why not give me the opportunity to finish and give you my very best?”

[From E! News]

Rape? Terrorism? For the love of God. Madonna’s outrage is an artistic Holocaust! Her words are a genocide. See? I can be hyperbolic too, Madge. While I can see why Madonna – or any artist – would be legitimately pissed off that there was a music leak, let’s not say it’s rape/murder/genocide. And after the terrible week everyone has had, let’s not call a music leak – which was likely orchestrated by someone at the label, let’s be real – to TERRORISM.

If a Madonna song post 90’s is stolen in a forest, and there is no one around to hear it…

    Is it still shit?

  2. Maria says:

Meh, I can understand her frustration but what happened wasn’t terror, that’s a really piss poor comparison.

As for the artistic rape, chill Madge, I understand your outrage but the word rape isn’t necessary.

    • FLORC says:

I get it. The artists have someone they created and valued emotionally. And then it gets taken. Maybe they feel helpless over their artistic creations being taken without consent. Still, that’s not rape. That’s theft. People need to stop tossing around that word for attention or shock value or for exaggeration.
It’s really offensive and ignorant to toss that word around. Then again this is Madge trying to stay in the news.

    • denisemich says:

Leaks are usually done by record exec’s (or there underlings) to test the climate of an Artists sound and completeness of the work.

I think it can be used to pressure an artist to release an album that they are not comfortable with for the record co. to make money.

According to the dictionary, rape is to seize and take away by force. This did happen to Madonna.

She did not use the words incorrectly. Rape is not just sexual and Terrorism is a form of bullying.

  3. cr says:

    Rape? Terrorism?
Narcissistic and delusional and overwrought much, Madonna?

  4. mimif says:

Sigh. Or maybe I should write Sigh!! Madonna! Come on!!! Why???

  5. FLORC says:

    Sit down Madge.

  6. Izzy says:

Song leaks, paparazzi pics – I do NOT understand why so many singers and actors insist on using inappropriate hyperbole when discussing such matters. Can I please heave a copy of a dictionary at their heads? They are talking about theft of property or stalking, but not rape! SMH

  7. elisabeth says:

she should be more worried about non-doctored photos of her coming out

  8. Blythe says:

We just love throwing that word around ever so casually, don’t we?

    • Dani2 says:

Right? It’s one thing to be hurt and upset that your work was stolen but don’t just casually throw that word around like it’s nothing.

  9. Lucy2 says:

I have sympathy for someone having their work stolen and put out there (assuming that’s what happened and this isn’t a PR ploy). But do NOT compare something like that to rape or terrorism. Just don’t.
Either she’s incredibly self obsorbed and narcissistic (duh) or she wanted to say something controversial for attention. Either way, gross.

    • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

I go with self-absorbed. I know people like that. When something happens to you, keep your chin up. When it happens to them, it’s cataclysmic. So boring, these people.

  10. COSquared says:

Terrorism: Almost 150 kids massacred in Pakistan. Some Damn Label BS: Song leaks

  11. maybeiamcrazy says:

We should apply Goldwin’s Law to ‘rape’. I am sick of people throwing this word around as if it is nothing.

  12. Willa says:

Look at her beautifully smooth hand in the instagram pic! Hahaaa!

    • Hautie says:

I know! I am looking at that picture thinking it was from 1991. That is a very smooth hand and face.

And someone please explain to me why aging LA women… keep on getting that weird pucker/sucking the cheeks thing done to their face. It looks like they are permanently puckering up to say “prunes”.

There is nothing youthful about that look, ladies.

Having a decent natural smile, goes a long ways. And there is nothing remotely natural looking about Madonna’s face any longer.

What is so puzzlingly for me. Was she was not aging badly. Why did she go crazy with the face work? When a little mini lift @ 45… would have probably been all she needed to till she hit 60.

Now she has a face full of work and injections that just looks…. bad.

  13. geneva says:

I am one year younger than Madonna. Hard to believe. I have never thought of her as a true artist so artistic rape might be true if you never get recognition and your work is stolen and it destroys you. Has anything really made a dent in Madonnas’ psyche…and throwing the word rape around when she most likely does not do original work anymore is lousy. She was fabulously ahead of her time and she was smart, savvy, powerful, talented and all those things. I have always felt, however, that she deserves my admiration but I just can’t muster it. She is at the age where she could grow old gracefully. Instead she contorts her face to look like a giraffe vaguely resembling Marlene Dietrich is some old movie. WTF.

  14. Dani2 says:

    #Beyonce’simpact LOL

  15. Loopy says:

I read these justifications on other websites.

”She did think. I’m the outlier here apparently because it shouldn’t be a surprise or a shocker that the word and the feeling fits, i.e. having your people and/or property raped and pillaged by an extraneous force. Rape doesn’t only apply or only mean some form of sex forced against one’s will, it just doesn’t. Rape is a noun and a verb of “an act of plunder, violent seizure, or abuse; despoliation; violation.”

‘Sure, not many people use the word in this sense, but it is a correct use of the word. It is an abduction, a hijacking, assault. Ex: The Rape of the Sabine Women was the abduction of the women, not the sexual violation of them (even if the latter may have later occurred). The wing-tearing scene in this year’s film, Maleficent, is another example where rape did not involve sex. Not a metaphor for rape, but a form of rape.
This is not the first time Madonna has said something that has made people uncomfortable, but her statements are not untrue. I’m so glad I’m not the only one who realizes this.’

  16. mary simon says:

Don’t be terrorized, Madonna. No one is listening anyway.

  17. GingerCrunch says:

I love that she “thanks” us for “not listening”! It’s been my absolute pleasure! 😉

    • Loopy says:

hahahaha you guys are so mean 🙁

    • MonicaQ says:

I haven’t listened to a Madonna song since Ray of Light so yup, a pleasure all around. Old ass Lady Gaga and just as irrelevant.

      • Mintessence (the original Minty) says:

Except Gaga really does have vocal talent. I watched her singing jazz standards with Tony Bennett on PBS. She was pretty good. And I’m not one of her Little Monsters. Can’t imagine Madonna at 28 (Gaga’s age) capable of doing the same thing. Not that should would ever be invited to sing (lip synch?) duets with a talent like Tony.

As for her “outrage” – really Madonna? Such histrionics. I smell the hypocrisy, too, considering she has stolen ideas left and right from others:
        http://www.listal.com/list/lady-gaga-did-not-steal

P.S. To the Madonna stan/stalker troll (of course not you, MonicaQ) who thinks anyone who criticizes Madonna is SuperAmanda (the compiler of the above linked list): I am not Amanda, LOL. But I thank her for her work. Is it beyond your comprehension that there are plenty of people who don’t like Madonna?

I am someone who once liked her music during my teens, grew up, and learned her hits were written by others. I realized she is primarily BS surface image with little substance who has been successfully sued several times for copyright infringement.

  18. Kaboom says:

“Artistic rape”? Finally I can put a term on what I felt for the last 15 years when a new Madonna song came on.

  19. grabbyhands says:

JFC. For the last time, the only thing like rape is rape!!! People constantly making this comparison make me feel less sorry for them not more.

Having someone leak your unreleased demos may be annoying and frustrating, but it is no way comparable to being physically and sexually assaulted against your will seriously need to get over their bloated sense of self importance and STFU.

It is also not terrorism. 132 children being murdered in their elementary school is terrorism. Bombs going off in a marketplace is terrorism.

Get your effing priorities straight, Madge. Your narcissistic outrage is an embarrassment.

  20. db says:

ORLY? So the great ripoff artist and fraud doesn’t like it when it happens to her lol

  21. scout says:

LOL! As usual she using the media and the current situation as in Sony leaks as a promo for her music. She is clever.

  22. Lorelai says:

People need to stop comparing things to rape. Period.

    • Adrien says:

Well celebs compare bad things that happen to them to 3 things: rape, anything Nazi related or having a dental procedure. I don’t think it would sound as dramatic if she said having her song leaked out is like having a root canal.

  23. Jaded says:

You should be lucky they got stolen and leaked otherwise nobody would be interested in them. And stop with the overwrought symbolism, it’s insensitive, demeaning and insulting to those who have suffered the real effects of terrorism and rape.

    • Charle says:

That’s the thing though because Madonna was raped herself early on in her career so I found it puzzling coming from her

  24. Charle says:

I find it very unusual for her to say it since she herself was raped. To me it feels icky as to why say something utterly ridiculous and knowing about what she herself went through.

  25. mkyarwood says:

What the f*** is this!? The DAY after a terrorist threat on a school and at the height of rape culture analysis!? Screw you Madonna, we’re breaking up.

  26. chaine says:

I think Madonna herself leaked them, hoping to create a buzz about her new album. BUT, there was no buzz and no one noticed or cared, so she is now making ridiculous outrageous statements about the leak in a second attempt to get people interested in the leaked tracks. Go away, Madonna. Get a multi-bajillion dollar Vegas lip-sync show deal and rust in peace.

    • Jaded says:

I think you’re right…she’ll stoop to anything to promote herself, even as a victim. I’m sorry she was raped, it’s a horrible thing – I was sexually molested by a neighbour and close family friend as a kid and almost raped twice as an adult so I really don’t get her use of the “rape” analogy. It’s utterly insensitive.

    • Jayna says:

You can’t be serious. This is a leak of a full album several months from being released, not just a leak like two weeks before or even a month and you just drop it a little earlier than planned because of the leak to minimize the damage. Her album isn’t even ready to do that. The name of the album had never even been released Some are demos which might have changed and be better. You create a buzz by leaking maybe a song, etc, not your whole album for free two months or more before it’s ready. If the word of mouth is bad, you are dead in the water, or it’s not fresh by the time it comes out after listening to it for free for months, so no mystery to it.

This kind of leak is devastating for a singer or band putting out music, especially in the climate today where it is already hard to sell music. This far away from release and your whole album out there practically is not what you want.

Listen, whether anyone likes the album or not, this time around she has put over a year of her life working on this and to have it leaked so far ahead of release is somebody who wanted to hurt her, not a fan. I wouldn’t want to be in Madonna’s line of sight right now in her camp. LOL

Still, spare me with using terrorism to explain how she feels with all the deaths from terrorism, especially recently. Madonna is narcissistic and this is typical of a comment she would make. I read she deleted it from the immediate backlash.

  27. Artemis says:

I didn’t download it but I did listen to a few seconds of some tracks. It’s utter trash. She’s been consistently bad, there is no excuse to have such good people working with her and still produce crap. She’s at that point where she lost her touch and won’t listen to people because I’m sure it’s not their skills and talent that is under question.

  28. Dr.Funkenstein says:

Which, the songs or the stealing?

  29. ac says:

She really has no right to get up in arms about music being stolen. She has had numerous copyright and artistic license lawsuits filed against her in the past few decades. Some of her biggest songs were stolen pretty much directly from others.

  30. Darkladi says:

I’m gonna go ahead & throw in a “bitch please” here

  31. Lisa says:

Yeah, yeah, sad that the spotlight is off you for two seconds, aren’t you?

  32. Bread and Circuses says:

I honestly wonder whether she said that because it would garner outrage.

I mean, she probably is ticked off, but Madonna is the queen of manipulating public outrage into relevance for her brand.

  33. Jem says:

I was one of those kids who bought her first album and danced in my bedroom to it…. Waited for MTV to show her videos…

Today? Shit, I don’t even RECOGNIZE her anymore. She has mutilated her face with countless plastic surgeries to the point where she’s creepy-weird looking. She’s like a muppet from Hell. I don’t want to be generous about it: this pisses me off. All I can think of is how she used to sing about having self-confidence and loving yourself and respecting yourself… and then I look at her face now, and the cringe-worthy attempts at staying young and I’m disgusted. I can’t believe I used to look up to her. I feel stupid. I wont’ be buying anymore of her albums.

  34. jenn12 says:

So freaking offensive. You have women being murdered because they won’t marry ISIS terrorists, and she’s talking about rape and terrorism? Can leaking Autotune songs count as artistic rape?

  35. I'm With The Band says:

She should chop down the trees in the proverbial forest, build a bridge and get over herself.

  36. Tim says:

Madonna wants the FBI and Homeland Security to talk about her digital violations and not the Sony hacked computers and fallout from ‘The Interview.’

  37. Punkypuss says:

Terrorism? Uh madge honey you need to watch the news! What happened in sydney recently that was a terroristic act! 9/11 that was terrorism! Your album being leaked? Is just a crappy event that no one cares for. Your no longer relevant! Stop acting like your cool your pathetic and you probably leaked the album yourself so you could make those assinine comments to create controversy because strutting about half naked doesn’t get you headlines any more. Put your saggy wrinkled tits away and retire from the spotlight with what little dignity you have left! This is my honest opinion
