Jennifer Lawrence is Forbes’ highest grossing actor of 2014

Jennifer Lawrence celebrated Christmas in her native Kentucky. She cheered on the Louisville Cardinals basketball team, which unfortunately lost to the Kentucky Wildcats (who had Ashley Judd in the audience). This is a video of her cheering before grabbing a slice of pizza. It always comes down to pizza with JLaw, doesn’t it? The U of Louisville Elle Raiser superfan account has some cute pictures of Jennifer at the game. She sat with her family and did the famous C-A-R-D-S cheer. Chris Martin was nowhere to be seen. Sorry, grandma. On Christmas Eve, she visited a children’s hospital and took pictures with several of the patients.

I hope JLaw enjoys her family holidays, but Hollywood hasn’t forgotten about her. She’s enjoying her first Billboard Hot 100 hit with “The Hanging Tree” from Mockingjay: Part I. Have you heard the techno version of the song? Given the lyrical subject matter, it’s slightly disturbing to hear it on the radio. People are probably dancing to it in clubs, too drunk to notice what the song is about.

Forbes has also crowned Jennifer the top grossing actor of 2014, thanks to the Hunger Games and X-Men franchises. I wouldn’t be surprised if she repeated next year. After that? Who knows. Thanks to Oscar, JLaw is much better positioned for the future than former franchise successes like Kristen Stewart, Daniel Radcliffe, and Sparkles. JLaw earned indie cred before going mainstream while the others had to work backwards. I think she has true lasting power, as long as she paces her career well.

Here are some photos of JLaw with her various bodyguards earlier this month. She also has a really hot, LA-based bodyguard. You can see photos of him here.

I have nothing negative to say about her except that her street style is whack. Congrats JLaw!

  2. Lahdidahbaby says:

I kinda like how much she doesn’t give a sh*t what she wears on the street. She can’t look bad anyway, and it just makes her more real, I think.

    • Patty says:

Even more REAL?! I thought it’s not possible after this huge revelation that she’s eating pizza, as the first female in the history, and that she doesn’t work out (which of course enables her to stay in such shape).

      • Gemma13 says:

I don’t think she’s said she doesn’t work out. I thought in the past she’s said she hates it. I remember liking her more after she said that.

  3. olly says:

But was she the highest paid?

    • Farah says:

Well she got 10 million dollar for Catching Fire + a back-end bonus. I’m guessing her MockingJay contracts are the same. Her X-Men contract was made when she was a nobody, but probably got a nice bonus since Fox used her (and Jackman) heavily in the marketing campaign. She wasn’t there physically much, but every poster, every trailer; there was JLaw. Plus that nice 15 million dollar Dior check. She’s hardly desperate for cash.

  4. scout says:

Great but I read she wasn’t paid well or paid less than the male colleagues! That’s not fair.

    • Kipi says:

No, it was fair in that case because she wasn’t in the movie as long as the other actors.

Amy Adams on the other hand basically carried the movie and was still paid less. That’s injustice.

      • Angela says:

I would agree IF Renner – a smaller star with a smaller role – hadn’t been paid more than JLaw.

  5. MinnFinn says:

I don’t mind the techno version of Hanging Tree because they retained the original melancholy feeling and minor key simple melody. Plus JLaw’s singing is exactly the same so much so that it makes me think she didn’t re-record any of her vocals.

In the top photo, the woman in the background wearing a white vest looks like Isabella Rossellini.

    • bettyrose says:

Yeah, I like it too. I’m pretty sure the lyrics came from the book, though, so is Suzanne Collins getting royalties?

  6. Kipi says:

She’s awful, but at least it isn’t Tom Cruise again.

  7. Poppy says:

Those movies would be huge hits with or without her. She’s lucky to be a part of extremely popular franchises. That could be any other young white actress and the result would be just the same.

    • Annie B says:

I think she made a major contribution to the scale of the box office success of the Hunger Games franchise – with different casting, those films would probably have made lots of money, but might not have had anything like the same impact in pop culture or commercial terms.

  8. lucy2 says:

I saw pics of her at the hospital on Christmas Eve, that was a really sweet thing to do.
Considering how big her Hunger Games franchise is, this list doesn’t surprise me. She’s one of the few actors, male or female, who seems to be able to go between smaller character films and big blockbusters. I agree she’s set up way better than most her age for a lengthy career.

  9. Elsa says:

She’s so overrated. Sure, she’s relatively talanted, but i can’t name one great role of her

  10. kim says:

I don’t know why but she makes me feel like a parent who’s hoping her child to stay the same forever.

  11. Veronica says:

Not surprising. She had two franchises released almost back to back, which was bound to take in an impressive amount. It’ll be interesting to see what she does once X-Men and THG is done. The amount she must be raking in off these films has her pretty much set if she isn’t indulgent – she could do pretty much anything if she chooses her projects wisely.

I like the leather jacket in that outfit, but I think pumps would have gone better? The travel outfit is just hilaribad in a charmingly pedestrian way. Her hair looked really cute at the game, though. Best it has looked in awhile.
