Emile Hirsch drunkenly assaulted a female studio executive at Sundance

Ever since I saw Emile Hirsch in Milk, I’ve thought he was a very talented actor. But the dude has issues. Attitude issues, issues with alcohol, and now issues with violence. Emile was at Sundance to promote his film Ten Thousand Saints. The film premiered last Friday, but Emile stayed in Park City to party and hang out with friends throughout the weekend. In the wee hours Sunday morning, he assaulted someone. A woman. A female studio executive.

Actor Emile Hirsch was involved in a fracas with a female executive from Paramount Pictures while partying into the early hours at the Sundance Film Festival. Police were called to Tao nightclub in Park City, Utah, at around 3:30 a.m. on Sunday after the movie exec, whose name has not been confirmed but who works for Paramount, told security she had been assaulted.

While it is not clear what sparked the drama at the packed club, a witness told us, “Something happened between the movie exec and Emile, and she said she had been assaulted and asked security to call the police. Emile didn’t leave the scene, and calmly waited for the police to arrive, and spoke with them until around 5 a.m., after which he went home with his friends. No arrests were made.”

Another source said the female film exec didn’t press charges at the scene, but considered speaking to the police later on Sunday about making a complaint.

A source tells us of Hirsch, “He’s a really nice guy. I can’t imagine he’d be involved in anything like this.” A spokesperson for Park City police said, “We are still investigating the details of the case and can’t provide any further information at this time.”

Page Six published that a few days ago, and this morning, they have more details. They identify the female executive and detail how Emile assaulted her. This whole thing is so bizarre.

Actor Emile Hirsch could be in serious trouble after allegedly assaulting Paramount exec Dani Bernfeld at Tao Nightclub at the Sundance Film Festival around 3:30 a.m. on Sunday. Sources exclusively tell Page Six that Hirsch, star of Sundance film, “Ten Thousand Saints,” appeared inebriated at the nightclub where he aggressively attacked rising star exec Bernfeld, 31.

“Emile was aggressively picking on Dani,” said a source, who added that Hirsch then suddenly snapped and, “He got even more aggressive and aggro. He pushed Dani up against a table, and then he put her in a headlock.”

Another source familiar with the incident called Hirsch’s alleged attack a “chokehold,” and added that, “He attacked her from behind — he completely blindsided her after he’d been s - - t-talking and was already led away from her once.”

Park City Police confirmed to Page Six they are investigating the incident, and said a county sheriff would decide if charges will be filed.

Bernfeld is VP at Paramount Digital Entertainment as well as the studio’s Insurge Pictures label. She was named to The Hollywood Reporter’s prestigious “Next Gen” list of top entertainment professionals 35 and under for 2014, and has worked on projects with stars and producers including Ben Stiller, Elizabeth Banks and Russell Simmons.

Sounds like a douchebag with an attitude problem got wasted and decided that a woman would be the easiest target for his violent douchebaggery. While it shouldn’t matter than this woman is a studio executive – we would still be pissed if Emile assaulted a random woman, wouldn’t we? – the fact that this woman is a power player within the industry does add an extra dimension of “Whoa, Emile really messed up.”

Oh geez. Sounds like the guy needs to grow up a bit and also lay off the booze.

I find this disturbing on multiple levels. First, because he allegedly laid hands on another person in that manner…definitely a-hole, douche-canoe, creeper behavior. Male or female, no excuse. Secondly, I can’t watch a movie with him because he is a dead freaking ringer for my a-hole ex, and that’s just weird. Voice, looks, mannerisms, the lot. Luckily, he never laid a hand on me like Mr. Hirsch would. He’d have ended up neutered instead of just alone.

    Boy is a mess….

  3. Maria says:

    Nope, nope, and nope.

    • RocketMerry says:

      Please say it ain’t so.
I LOVE Emile, and literally just the other day I was thinking to myself: “I wonder why he did not really break into huge movies after his first good projects”. He was lovely in “Into the wild” and I remember seeing “Lords of Dogtown” right after finishing high-school and thinking: “That is a promising actor, I’m sure he’ll be the next big thing”.

What the heck is going on?! I feel so disappointed.

      • Diana says:

I think Lainey has maintained he’s always had very dbag-ish behavior, going back years. She HATES him. I don’t think he’s as awesome personally as he is on screen, which is a shame because he talented.

      • Dani says:

I read somewhere that he was cast in LOD because he was even douchier than Jay Adams was. Now that all these stories come out, it’s kind of sad and pathetic.

      • QQ says:

I was Gonna Say, somehow I find nothing weird about it but is cause Lainey ALWAYS has reported on how big a douchelord he really is ( Up there with Michael Pitt)

Were I her This dude would be blackballed out the industry TOMORROW just for sh!ts and Giggles

      • Bridget says:

Because his attitude> his talent. There’s a reason why he doesn’t work much anymore, and its because people don’t want to work with him.

Remember when he was going to do his revolutionary, all new take on Hamlet… by setting it in a high school?

  4. Nk868 says:

He’s friends w lilo, or at least isn’t embarrassed to deny it when she says they are, that tells you something

  5. HoneyBea says:

why do all the douches always have to be cute AF

    • Maria says:

because looks give people a pass in our society. Emile wont have problems still attracting women even after this. thats why he wont see a need to change.

  6. bammer says:

Will he be blackballed and lose his career like some others? Doubtful. This will be swept under the rug as usual if you are a certain type.

    • Decorative Item says:

Sorry, are you comparing Bill Cosby’s situation to this?

      • bammer says:

No. Some actors are accused of assault and people think they should never work. Others are allowed to carry on like Sean Bean and Charlie Sheen.

    • Senaber says:

I think maybe Bammer means more like Sean Penn?

    • Maria says:

      what career?

there is a general rule in hollywood: if you only work with stable people your list of possible co workers will be very slim. so it comes down to: is the talent or the box office big enough to put up with it? Someone like Katherine Heigl had no problems as long as she was in demand, when movies flopped she was out in a second because no one thought she was worth it any more.

assaulting an executive is also seen as another thing. some guys in upper managent might not care if he hits his girlfriend but if he cant respect an executive than they will not work with him.

so its not really comparable. none of the mention guys laid hands on the powers that be.

    • Decorative Item says:

Oh, OK, I get you. I think it just comes down to dollars. If the executives think they can still squeeze money out of the gen pop, then it’s business as usual. It’s sad really, but I know tons of people who will still watch a Sean Penn movie, my hubby included. But, at least he knows better than to do it in front of me.

    • homegrrrl says:

I have doubts as to the severity of the “assault”
Drunk drugged people in the wee hours of the morning at high altitude can create a drama storm.

      • LNC says:

@Homegrrl- I don’t understand your statement. How severe does it have to be to you for you not to doubt that he did something in front of other people that was not appropriate.

Granted I’m pretty chill, but I always have the running voices in my head of “don’t start none/won’t be none” and “keep your feet on the ground and hands to yourself”.

  7. Lucy2 says:

Awful. I hope charges are filed and he has to face some consequences for his actions.

    • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

I do, too. Completely unacceptable. And as my mother would say, if he does that in public, imagine what he does in private.

    • INeedANap says:

The article said she didn’t want to pres charges. 🙁

That makes me so sad, she probably felt pressured not to so her studio wouldn’t look “dangerous” to other actors.

      • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

        Oh, boo.

      • lucy2 says:

It also says the county sheriff could still decide to do so. They might opt not to if she doesn’t pursue a complaint, but I hope they don’t just let him off the hook.

  8. Beatrice says:

Emile, good luck getting your next movie contract.

  9. scout says:

Ego! Little guys get some movies, some fame and some moolah and they think they have “arrived” in Hollywood for good.
Assault a woman? How macho of you Emile, hope you get what you deserve now. Bye Bye.

    • Senaber says:

Those pics are cropped so that you cannot tell how tiny he is. But he is. I feel sorry for his daughter- didn’t he have a daughter recently? It’s scary that he is so aggressive and violent. I hope he is not like that with her :-(.

  10. MeloMelo says:

Ugh, Emile! I’ve rooted for you! Why you have to do this?

  11. Kiddo says:

If he actually had someone in a chokehold, that is incredibly dangerous, and he should have been led away in cuffs.

  12. Decorative Item says:

Well, I’ll just go ahead and cross him off my list of people I’ll pay money to watch. Guess he doesn’t understand that he’s an actor and a luxury, not a necessity.

  13. Mia4S says:

He’s a very insecure, arrogant man who I think thought he would be huge after Into the Wild. I’m not a bit surprised by this. Move along Hollywood, nothing to see here. I’m sure his five or six fans will be devastated.

  14. Mrs. Ari Gold says:

What a courageous thing for her to do. By doing this she is protecting other women. Perhaps her calling the police will also push Emile to get help. If he doesn’t get help this will at least warn other women to stay away from him and help boost the next woman’s case who reports him.

    • GingerCrunch says:

Absolutely agree. Now would be the time for him to go away, get some much-needed help and salvage whatever career he’s got left. Awful, awful.

  15. Dree says:

i really like his work but what a messed up thing to do.

  16. bns says:

I’m glad his career went nowhere. Loser.

  17. AntiSocialButterfly says:

Expect more a$$holery from this a$$hole.

    • Senaber says:

Good point. This is the most attention he’s gotten in years. If there are no serious consequences, he will probably not only continue but ramp it up.

  18. Tig says:

Boy, after starting the day reading about the rape trial and verdict in Tennessee, and now this- ugh. Makes you wonder about what other crap he has pulled like this. Kinda surprised there’s no video of all this. It must have been a “no phones” event.

  19. OSTONE says:

I think the key words here are studio executive. He physically attacked a VP of Paramount, he is done for.

  20. OhDear says:

There goes his acting career (what is left of it).

  21. Mark says:

What a dick, he needs to start assaulting men like proper man does.

  22. Jayna says:

I don’t know much about him. I loved him in Into the Wild, though.

Countdown. One, two, three, he enters rehab, if he can afford it as a PR fix.

  23. FLORC says:

This likely would have fizzled out if it was just some random at the festival. That she’s an exec and there were witnesses means this will not go away easily.
I guess that’s kind of a silver lining.

  24. WTF says:

    Bye Felicia

  25. idsmith says:

    He’s done

  26. Blackbetty says:

Attacking a industry exec? One way to lose jobs

  27. EduBois says:

I love that he can put someone in a CHOKEHOLD and walk away – no charges pressed.
Will that happen to any other “civilians” who get drunk, pick on someone and suddenly assault them???

I’ll ask my neighbourhood NYPD on the beat and gather his or her thoughts.

    Utter trash.

  28. Veruca Salt says:

He’s part of Leo’s pussy posse, isn’t he? Poor Leo, it’l, be even MORE difficult for him to help Emile get movie roles..
