This ^^ is a photo of Lady Gaga out and about in NYC yesterday, carefully hiding THAT ring finger. It’s like a siren call to paparazzi and tabloid editors alike: if you make a point of hiding your ring finger, that’s just an excuse for people to write about “engagement rumors.” Well, at least Gaga didn’t play that game for very long. Shortly after these photos were taken, she posted this on her Instagram:
Yes, Lady Gaga is engaged. Taylor Kinney proposed on Valentine’s Day and Gaga said yes. I know I should find all of this hopelessly cliché, getting engaged on V-Day and wearing a heart-shaped diamond and all of that… but for Gaga, it’s sort of refreshingly normal. I know I should hate her heart-shaped diamond too, but in my humble opinion, heart-shaped diamonds are always going to be prettier than pear-shaped diamonds. I never understood the appeal of pear-shaped diamonds. Diamond flame war!
Us Weekly says that Kinney did propose on V-Day and after Gaga said yes, they went out to eat at Joanna Trattoria, the Gaga-family eatery. Gaga has been dropping hints publicly about engagements, and I guess Taylor Kinney finally caught on. They’ve been together four years with surprisingly few scandals. I used to wonder what they were doing together but after all this time… eh. Whatever. They must make each other pretty happy.

Hearts are kind of yuck but I will say that this is a nicely-shaped one, a lot of the time they look like deformed pears.
I think a lot of it depends on the setting. Look up Portia di Rossi’s engagement ring. I love when marquis are set horizontal in an intricate or even a deco-style setting. Pears, I think, can look really classy and lovely (good example is Mia Farrow’s ring from Frank Sinatra.)
I will, however, go to my grave despising Princess Cuts (and I know, I’m inviting so much hate for this belief-but every jeweler and gemologist I’ve met-and I know tons- agrees with me.) The sparkle is tacky, the points break and every high maintenance bride I have ever met wants one. If you want the square shape go with a squatty Radiant or an Asscher.
My marquis is gorgeous.
Thought I wanted a pear shape (13 years ago) and when I went to try it on, hated it. Nothing is worse than the marquis though. Not my style but her heart shaped ring is kinda pretty. Congrats to them!

Gotta agree. I know I shouldn’t complain, I’d probably die of happiness if someone got me a diamond that big but I feel the heart shaped engagement ring and a V-day proposal is a bit too over the top and in your face.
After you’ve been dating four years, the exact date doesn’t really matter. If it is a good relationship the proposal was more of a conversation not out of the blue. So, a little cheese is perfectly timed.
I know – I say it now, but if someone gave me a ring like that on valentines day I certainly wouldn’t make him take it back 🙂

However, Sofia and Joe look great together, but creep me out in every other way. This marriage is way more likely to last than the publicity trainwreck.

I think they’re an odd pairing, too, but not because of their looks. He seems so generic and bland and she seems like she tries hard to be the opposite. I know they say opposites attract and I really know nothing about either of them but based on surface knowledge they seem like a weird match.

Personally, I find heart shaped diamonds to be the kiss of death in a relationship, but to each their own.

If you look at some of her pictures on her Facebook page, she really is pretty and not what you see on stage. I understand why he is with her. She’s unique, one of a kind and passionate. She pushes the limits & I think she identifies herself as an artist first, singer second. I live with an artist and he’s definitely odd but a wonderful guy.

Heart-shaped diamonds are so tacky and cheesy, IMO. I don’t actually mind a pear-shaped diamond so long as it’s set with nice side stones.

I think it’s so weird that they’re dating because she’s Gaga-not that she’s much a big deal anymore-and he so normal-handsome and not very artsy and his show is so bad, it’s the cheesiest show on television. Even though she’s all about being unconventional and beauty is on the side and standing up to bullies and Blah blah-I think she really likes that she nabbed what amounts to a high school quarterback. Chicago Fire is not the cheesiest show on television. I can name like 4 others that are cheesier: Walking Dead (sorry can’t stand it and don’t see the appeal of it…maybe not cheesy lol), Marry Me (cheesy but funny), Pretty Little Liars (stupid show!) & Grimm.
I dislike the shows you’ve named as well, but I can’t watch Chicago fire without rolling my eyes every five minutes. The latest promo, “There’s a new boss (“I’m in charge now!” or something of that ilk is yelled) and So-and-So (the Aussie guy from House) is playing with fire (haha get it because we’re firefighters,)” and then the Aussie guys says in this ridiculously terrible American accent, “If the chief finds out I’m sleeping with wife, he’ll ruin my career!” Just so cheesy, it seems more like a parody than an actual show, ditto with The Night Shift (and the Blacklist “I’m a criminal who helps catch other criminals and I butt heads with the sexy lady FBI agent assigned to babysit me-but the catch is, am I her father…? Or do I want to bang her?”) Basically anything NBC puts out lately is just try-hard and terrible.

It seems to work because he’s very low-key… I mean, I can barely recall him giving many interviews. I only know him from The Vampire Diaries.

I still remember the first time I saw him on those breast cancer shorts that Lifetime did where famous actresses directed each one, Demi, Jennifer Aniston, etc. He was the stripper’s husband in the breast cancer short story. I thought, man, this guy is gorgeous.
I’ve never gotten them. Especially, when she messed up her hip and had to quit the NA part of her Born This Way tour. She was living with him while he worked on his TV show I guess and later said she was stoned 24/7 and a mess, depressed. She never mentioned he saved her. She said she was such a high/drunk mess at a wedding that Elton John said something to her and saved her. Then she was depressed all the time dealing with Artpop and blaming everyone around her for the longest time and says Tony saved her.
She says he’s a hidden freak, just more normal on the outside. Is he an enabler when all of this was going on? I haven’t figured them out, because I think he likes Gaga’s artistic ability and her sweetness, but she’s been a mess for several years of their relationship. So I didn’t get the draw. Maybe he likes being with a woman that is gone a lot doing her thing and he gets his space and are good when they are together. But she always seems very sure of their love when she talks about him.
I like that he isn’t a fame ho, so obviously isn’t using her , and has his own career. He always seems very proud of her.
I just don’t like the ring at all, but it’s obviously what she wanted. She’s said for a while she’ll marry him, so I’m sure he knew what style ring she wanted. But I”m happy for them. I thought she was already engaged. She tweeted at Christmas a secretive remark that led me to believe she got engaged. I guess not.
Actually I remember reading an interview, where she said he stuck my her side when she broke her hip and dealing with drugs. She seemed pretty grateful. It was in an interview from last year, I can’t remember right now which one.

She’s not completely straight and has said so, though. That last tattoo she got last year, the ugly monster claw while on tour, she was high as a kite. You could see it in her eyes in the photo she posted. She may have thanked him for standing by her side, but passing out at her boyfriend’s brother’s wedding on the lawn and so messed up at her friend’s wedding, and he didn’t call her out on it. She said it was Elton. He stuck by her, but apparently wasn’t calling her out on it since she said it was Elton who talked to her about it after the wedding episode and saved her because of that.
Anyone that keeps having her repeated history of addiction and prone to depression and doesn’t get completely clean is just another step away from spiraling again. ” I’m sober now. Sometimes. Not always.”
There are some people who love being with somebody who is a mess. Not quite Enabler, but enjoying the caretaker role. Think of it like that syndrome where mother’s poison their kids or ensure their kids are never well so that the mother is forever caretaking their sick offspring. Translate that to grown adult relationships.
These sorts of people are alittle more extreme in that need than your average care taker people who simply want to parent their partner. And they are different from people forced into a caretaker role because their partner developed into a mess.
I only came here to say that I thought the cover pic was of Tori Spelling. And that’s not a good thing.
I actually kind of think Gaga looks really good in the photo with Taylor Kinney. Good for them on the engagement. I could break out theories of Gaga doing this for publicity, but eh, we never know. (We also- well maybe just me–wondered how Liam and Miley made sense.) Taylor’s hot, so she should ride that train til the wheels fall off.
A heart shaped diamond is nobody’s friend
It’s hard for anyone to take a nice photo of their own hand. I couldn’t care less what kind of diamond someone gets but, for the love, be aware of your hairy knuckles! I can’t tell you how many of those I saw on facebook this past weekend. At least Gaga had the sense to filter hers to black and white.

I think the preferences come partly based on what looks good on our fingers.
I have a good friend with long, thin fingers.She can wear the most delicate,thin rings and they look amazing on her hand.Truly elegant and somehow even more expensive. On my hand the same rings only underline my short fingers.
So I’d wear a marquise cut in a pair of earrings but never as a ring.
i always had the feeling that Gaga is the most normal person behind closed doors and that her shtick is just to have people talk about her and keep her in the business. I don’t know why but this 2 seem like a solid couple and they might even last longer than what we all expect.
I agree with this. I like her and Taylor Kinney together. He’s stayed out of her spotlight which leads me to believe that he loves her for her and not her money. And she stays out of his. I do think they have what it takes to last.

A heart shaped diamond is not my cup of tea but the really important thing here is if SHE likes it and that he picked it out for her. How cute and adorable are they? All I ever wanted in an engagement ring was a pear shaped diamond and I love it! I don’t know why pear shapes got such a bad rap. Probably from Sex & the City (which I also love). Honestly, I really don’t like Gaga’s ring. I expected something a little more edgy. I predict she gets a few different ones for different occasions. I don’t see her as only having one fashion option for anything, even an engagement ring. I love them as a couple, though. He is so “normal” and she is so out there. I love their dynamic.

Heart shaped diamonds….V-day engagements….I don’t want to be that girl but like the author I’m refreshingly surprised that Gaga went such a normal route instead of let’s say a black diamond flanked with red and purple sides. In my family no one had a round, their diamond make up = 3 pears, 1 marquise and an emerald cut. Princess was the trend when I got married (chose round solitaire Tiffany style setting bec. to me that was novel) in early 2000’s.
I hear what the posters say about their different looks. He is hot in a Jon Eric Hexum way. Again I wouldn’t expect her to be attracted to a man who looks like he could pose for a calendar. I would picture her with Justin Theroux and Jennifer with this searingly hot specimen of male.

I am a terrible person for asking this, but how did he pay for the rock? I’m sure he makes a nice amount of money on Chicago Fire, but for a ring of that size, if the stone is any decent quality that would be a pretty big chunk of cash.

Taylor Kinney and I grew up in the same area, Lancaster, and there have been a few Taylor/Gaga sightings of them around my hometown during the holidays. This past December, a childhood friend texted me (I guess because she knows I follow celeb gossip) and said they were at a Christmas tree farm in Lancaster. She said people were asking for autographs and taking pictures, and she asked another customer who those people were… were they reality stars or something… because she didn’t recognize them. She said when the woman told her that’s Lady Gaga and her boyfriend, she was floored because Gaga was wearing jeans, a plaid shirt and boots and had dark hair in a ponytail. I do have a feeling she probably is not in character out of the spotlight.
They also went to church service and she sent a very nice text to the singer that day. The poor lady was so nervous performing with Gaga there that she ran outside as soon as she was done, not realizing Gaga wanted to,talk to her. But Gaga got her number and texted her very encouragingly. She was really dressed down for church too. I think they were in town for a christening. It hit the Lancaster papers.
I grew up in Lancaster, PA and my mother and stepfather live in Lititz (a small town in Lancaster County). Apparently one time she and Taylor went to a bar in Lititz and she was very nice and low key. From what I hear, she’s always been very pleasant to people when they are visiting the area-I haven’t heard any diva-esque stories from my family or friends who still live there.
