This may offend some of you, but I’ve sat here, I’ve tried, but I can’t see the big deal about Freida Pinto. Since Slumdog Millionaire, she’s become some kind of break out star praised the world over for her beauty. I really hope the novelty of a passably attractive Indian chick wears off soon, because Hollywood is seriously considering this chick to play a Bond girl.

  2. Lee says:

the fact that you don’t see what the big deal is about her isn’t offensive, but the phrase “novelty of a passably attractive Indian chick” is. she may not be a big deal to you, but she’s undoubtably loads more attractive than you are. try to belittle her all you want, but it’s not going to change that she’s making a shit-ton of money and being universally praised for her looks.

  3. Codzilla says:

“I really hope the novelty of a passably attractive Indian chick wears off soon …”

What a stupid thing to say.

While you’re certainly entitled to your opinion, referring to Freida as a “novelty” because of her racial background comes off as ignorant and mean-spirited.

  4. Zoe says:

yeah, sorry, there’s no denying she’s gorgeous (by ANY standards, holy god, Lee, you’re right about that) but my excitement about her went down the tubes wtih the whole thing about her dumping her boyfriend/husband/fiancee right before the Oscars and declaring herself “single.” (The same man who spent his time building up her career, mind you.)

I honestly hope it was just bad timing or something, but me thinks I smell a disloyal rat, no matter how beautiful.

Maybe being a bond “girl” is really what she deserves. God knows I wouldn’t wish it on my worst enemy. (yeah, yeah, it’s a good opportunity. For an opportunist.)

  5. cakes says:

Enjoy your 15 minutes of fame while they last.

  6. Chiara says:

It’s good to see a vibrant young actress finding roles.

  7. lola lola says:

Zoe: Are you saying that you think her boyfriend/husband whatever is somehow responsible for her success? Isn’t that a little sexist? In the end, he didn’t act in the movie for her. I don’t think it’s fair to credit anyone else with her success but her. “Spent time building up her career” can, too often, mean he sat on the couch and decided not to work because she was bringing home the bacon.

P.s. The last two bond girls were scary ugly! I’d like to see a pretty one this time & Frieda is hardly “passably attractive”! She’s gorgeous.

  8. Zoe says:

nope, of course he’s not responsible for her success (duh), but from what I’ve read, he put a lot of effort into supporting her and her career, while putting himself through school, and when her career unexpectantly skyrockets, she dumps him, right before the Oscars and was totally shady and dishonest about whether she was dating, MARRIED, or engaged to this guy (I still don’t know for sure) and they were together for YEARS. Would you do this to someone? I don’t think any decent person would. I hope I’m wrong and I’d love to hear the facts, we need more beautiful, HONORABLE, celebrities, both men and women.

  9. Karen says:

OH DARN, this dashes Jen Aniston’s very public declaration to be a Bond girl. Poor Aniston, yet again. It’s SUCH a lofty aspiration, and Pinto should be so PROUD.

Being a Bond girl is a loser move if you want to be taken seriously as an actor, I feel.

  10. becca says:

It is, but it’s going to get her a bankable status in the States and Britain, and that’s exactly what she needs.

Her acting credits? Well, there’s Slumdog, and she’s Woody Allen’s new muse.

Freida’s got it made. And she’s freaking gorgeous. I am absolutely jealous, but that’s not going to stop me from saying: You go girl! 🙂

  11. whatevs says:

Wow. She is really pretty. Haven’t seen the movie so I can’t judge her acting skills, but she definitely has the look for a Bond girl.

  12. Zarah says:

She dumped the guy because it wasn’t working out. She’d been away for months on end, chances are they were already growing apart anyway and his one-sided whinge to the press more than says it all about this guy. She’s much better off and she knows it. I don’t see why that should be called heartless opportunism. Would it have been better to stay in a failing relationship she was miserable in just so she could “appear” loyal? Nah.

I think she would make a very interesting Bond Girl. Freida has more, beauty, poise and polish than true acting talent, even though she’s not bad either. Maybe being a Bond Girl could showcase her strengths rather than display her weakness onscreen.

  13. lara says:

This chick made only one movie and so far and her acting “skills” showed that she can do exactly two things: look gorgeous and smile. If that alone is considered talented, then beauty pageants must be havens of Oscar worthy “actresses”. Maybe, and that’s a big maybe, there’s more behind her acting abilities, but with the one note performance she gave in SM nobody can tell.
As far as her being cast in a Woody Allen movie, well, he like’s them young, like great-granddaughter young. Don’t get me wrong, he makes good movies, but Scarlett Johansson has been called his muse the past years and many of you think she’s a talentless hack. So much for that credit.
No, she shouldn’t stay in a failing relationship, but the way she handled this whole situation, the fact she completely ignored him lying to everybody that there hasn’t been any boyfriend/ fiancé/ husband back in India till reporters came up with pictures proving her wrong, that’s simply despicable.
And I’m with Zoe, I wouldn’t wish a Bond Girl role to anybody, but maybe this will end her “aspiring” career, like it has for so far for almost every other Bond Girl. So yeah, Freida Pinto For the next Bond.

  14. Candy says:

I don’t see what the big deal is about this woman, honestly. I’m not being mean, just honest. She is absolutely gorgeous and her skin is flawlessly beautiful and you can’t take that away from her no matter what you say. I just don’t think she was THAT great in the movie. IMO it was a collective effort by all the actresses that played her part that made her character great. I was more impressed with Dev Patel’s performance. Just my humble opinion, though I did think the ‘passably attractive Indian chick’ comment was a bit harsh.

  15. Enonymous says:

I never got into that over hyped Slumdog movie and I don’t see anything special about this girl at all, look wise or otherwise but as for her relationship and breakup with her secret fiance / husband goes, I don’t see why anyone comments about what happened when we clearly don’t know that much about it and I don’t think is anyone business anyway. I did read an interview that her fiance / husband gave and he just came across as a self sulking, score man trying to get sympathy, money and properly 15 minutes of fame.

As for her being the next Bond girl, she would just look out of place in the movie.

  16. Baholicious says:

Speaking as a “passably attractive Indian chick” I’d have to say Kip’s head is wedged firmly up their ass. Good think your head is pointed Kip, it must make insertion so much easier…

Aside from that, I don’t think Pinto conveys enough ‘va-voom’ to be a Bond girl. She radiates no sexuality as far as I see. She’s nice to look at, but so is a vase of gerbera daisies.

  17. Candice says:

Good for her!! She is very very pretty.

  18. morgs says:

Eva Green was awesome in Casino Royal. I can’t see Freida going toe-to-toe with Daniel Craig with the same intensity as Vesper Lynd.

  19. Ken says:

Daniel Craig should be so lucky to have a lead like her. Young and pretty.

  20. becca says:

morgs: Honestly, Eva Green was the exception among a long line of average acting girls. It also helped that Vesper was given a pretty good background and storyline. I don’t remember any other Bond girl having a background like that before that was even explored, even the girl Olga played.

  21. GimmeABreak says:

P.S. She’s an absolutely BEAUTIFUL Indian chick that I hope we see more of.

  22. snappyfish says:

she is beautiful….but there are many many beautiful girls who can act. She did a great job in slumdog millionaire but I don’t think she can be a bond girl, unless she is a brief interlude.

Bond girls, Danile Craig bond girls, need some real acting chops. The days of the silly vapid bond girls are gone, they were the Roger Moore days…and sadly some of the Remington Steele Bond days (Brosnan)

The last two bonds, casino royale was better, have had much more meat in the Bond Girl venue. let’s keep it that way. I think her youth might be a problem…but I guess she could be the daughter of some diplomat who has been abducted.

Hmmmmm if they use that I am going to sue. lol

  23. TinaWithPom says:

I’ve never watched “Slumdog Millionaire,” but the photos of this woman keep taking my breath away. She is beautiful.

  24. Ned says:

I think she is no more than a pretty model who was lucky to be in a successful movie and to cash in on it.

The little girl who played her part, did more “acting” than her.

Nevertheless, having seen the last Bond film, I am glad they are considering to cast a pretty woman.
Bond girls used to be stunning.

In the past Bond films they casted woman that were far from beautiful and some were very unattractive.

I am happy to see they are going back to some of what Bond films used to be.

  25. Ned says:

and Kip, are you British by ant chance?

Holding on to your colonial condescending and belittling role?

  26. Jessssssss says:

She was considered for Quantam but was too young. So its not like its an excuse for her to be a bond girl. She was too young the first time around

  27. SASSOU says:

SHE deserve everything!!! SHE IS WORTH IT!!!!!!……..whatever u re are saying,……..SHE IS GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD SO GOD AND im a m a girl!!!!!1

  28. SASSOU says:

Baholicious: WAKE UP i mean whatever the girls as long as they play the ROLE …..and u NED…….sean connery was so lonnnnnnnnnnnng ago and it was good!!! MY GRANPA made me love it ……but as for my daughters they have to DISCOVER…..///and pinto is goooooooooooood so what the problem granpa and granMA ??????????????????????????

  29. crab says:

    SASSOU speak english much??

  30. Baholicious says:

Hi Crab, good to see it’s not just me…I thought I was having a brain aneurysm while reading what SASSOU considers to pass for language.

  31. morgs says:

sassou: if you want to make a point, learn how to communicate properly.

  32. Kiruha says:

Хорошо, давайте обсудим это в отдельной теме. Хотя это не столь важно.

  33. Really? says:

She’s “gorgeous” and “beautiful” because that’s what the media says and most people will believe what they’re told after a while. Have most of you seen other Indian or South Asian women? If you think this girl’s to die for, then you’d probably go into cardiac arrest seeing what many others look like (and no, I’m not talking about Bollywood actresses specifically). She’s attractive, has good fashion sense and has a face that provides a good canvas for a genius team of stylists to transform, but there are definitely plenty of lesser-known actresses who are truly stunning (as in, I want to look at you again so badly I’ll willingly give myself whiplash) and probably much more compelling and versatile performers than she is. The only difference is, this girl got lucky.
