Cressida Bonas covers Miss Vogue, claims she’s ‘so shy – paralyzingly so’

I’ve always thought Cressida Bonas was and is a pretty girl, but this cover sucks, right? Bad lighting, bad angle, and Miss Vogue (a supplement with Vogue UK) made her look sort of dead-eyed and mouth-breathy. Still… Cressida Bonas is going to be a star! Harvey Weintstein thinks so. Cressida has already phased out the potential for royal life with Prince Harry and has phased in fame, films and modeling. She’s one of the new faces of Mulberry. She’s already shot her first film role in Tulip Fever. And now she’s on the cover of Miss Vogue.

Cressida Bonas’ star is on the rise. The 26-year-old, who famously dated Prince Harry for two years, has a blossoming Hollywood career, an impressive fashion portfolio and recently appeared on stage to critical acclaim in the hit play There’s a Monster in the Lake. The chance to take on another persona appeals greatly to the pretty blonde.

“I don’t really understand it; in real life I’m often so shy – paralysingly so,” she recently confided to Miss Vogue magazine, “But when I’m performing, it’s totally different. I feel free.”

Performance has long been a passion of Cressida’s; she graduated from Leeds University with a degree in Dance, before deciding to continue her training at The Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance in Greenwich. Mulberry, which has described Cressida as the company’s muse, recently cast her in a 30-second film after watching the video of her final dance from her time at Leeds. The company’s talent-spotters were “charmed by her movement”, a spokesperson for the fashion brand said.

Later this year, Cressida will make her film debut in Harvey Weinstein’s new movie Tulip Fever, alongside the likes of Dame Judi Dench and Cara Delevingne. The Hollywood mega-mogul has predicted big things for the burgeoning actress. “People will see what a fantastic actress she is,” Harvey has said. “It will be the first of many roles for her.” He went on to praise Cressida for “not taking advantage of any media profile.”

[From Hello Mag]

I’ll admit it, I don’t understand people who are all “I’m so shy” and then seek a career in front of the cameras, who search out the spotlight and fame at any cost. I’m sure those people exist, and maybe Cressida is one of them. But I don’t know… she doesn’t seem that shy to me. She’s reserved, for sure, but she seems at home in this phase of her life.

Hello Magazine also says that Cressida is “determined to support herself” instead of relying on her parents, although there are some rumors that Cressida’s family – while well-connected and posh – are not really all that wealthy. So, Cressida might be doing some of this out of financial necessity. But she did go back to a well-connected ex-boyfriend named Harry… Harry Wentworth-Stanley, the son of the Marchioness of Milford Haven.

So her claim to fame is that she dated Harry? Has she done other things?

  2. Loopy says:

Poor Harry, if this is what she always dreamed of then the relationship was just for a step up. I guess it sucks for Harry, you will never deep down know if someone’s intentions are good.

    • InvaderTak says:

My thoughts exactly. She appears to simply be a user. Hope Harry finds a nice girl someday.

  3. QQ says:

so… if…she is shy.. help here.. why is she in a magazine’s front cover.. promoting her work and ….leggy Blonde?

    • Bea says:

Ssssshhhh just let it wash over you. Embrace the shilling.

I sort of get it. I’m not shy, exactly, but as an introvert I dread having to make small talk with strangers. I avoid parties and always have a book (well, now a mobile device) with me to look unavailable for conversation. But I love speaking in front of a crowd. I like teaching, and moderating workshops, and giving presentations, all of which are a bit like acting.

  4. Bea says:

“hit play There’s a Monster in the Lake” Please someone kill me now. This is getting ridiculous I’m so done with Hollywood.

  5. Sarah says:

I am shy and used to do a lot of theater in college and later community repertory work. I loved it because it helped me be able to turn my natural introvert instinct off and on at will and function much better. It helped me come out of my shell as a young adult and I’m grateful. I wouldn’t describe myself as “painfully shy” but I was and am definitely an introvert. Good for her for deciding what she wants and not taking the path toward royal life. I get the sense that she would have been miserable.

    • minime says:

Same here. I was actually painfully shy when I was younger and I loved to do theater since for me it worked has a therapy. Furthermore, every time I would go on stage I would feel like a different person so I never felt shy in those moments, if that makes any sense. It definitely helped me to deal with it in a way that I’m still a mildly shy person but not overwhelming (I was the kind of getting tomato red at people simply approaching me).

I don’t find it so awkward that actors might be shy people, since acting might be exactly a way of overcoming the shyness or an allowance to act in ways you never would ’cause you’re too shy and self aware…though I find it harder to believe this for people that actively seek for the “Hollywood kind of success”…In photos and interviews she seems to be a charisma vacuum, maybe she comes across differently in acting.

She looks like Taryn Manning in the last photo.

  6. Allie says:

If she was paralyzingly shy, she wouldn’t be considered a partier or a socialite. Let’s be real. Is she going to say she was bullied in high school too?

  7. oneshot says:

So all it takes to make it as a model in the UK these days is dating someone famous, or being the spawn of a celebrity? First Suki Stackhouse, now this girl, talk about a string of interchangeable blondes.

(seriously, isn’t this the same country that gave us Kate Moss, Naomi Campbell, Karen Elson, Stella Tennant, Erin o’Connor, Lily Cole, Jourdan Dunn etc? What happened?)

    • Chrissy says:

      Ummm, Suki Stackhouse? LOL

      • oneshot says:

        ooops lol.

(but seriously, choosing to go by ‘Suki’ with a last name like that….accidents are bound to happen).

      • bettyrose says:

Suki Stackhouse could easily date her way into the A-List if she wanted. She’s so desirable that immortal demons have turned good and died natural deaths for her.

    • Hazel says:

Don’t forget Twiggy! and Jean Shrimpton! and Jane Birkin! But then again, fashion magazines have always reached out to socialites & the children of famous movie stars. ‘Names’ always get you publicity. Plus those are the people who can afford high fashion, so you need to curry favor with them.

  8. **sighs** says:

You’d be surprised. A lot of performers are quite shy in real life. However, usually these people are ones that went to drama school and practice a craft, sometimes working themselves up through the ranks. Not the ones who date royalty and get on magazine covers and jump straight into “starring roles”. I don’t believe the shy thing, love. Sorry.

  9. Eleonor says:

I’ll talk about me being a really shy (and free spirit) person only with Miss Vogue.

  10. Talie says:

Let’s hope Harry finds a girl comfortable with public speaking — Kate can’t do it, and having two princesses who suck at public events would be dire.

    • Loopy says:

Whats up with that? Diana was also not a great public speaker, she looked riddled with nerves. But I am sure they can get something for that.

  11. Jaded says:

If she hadn’t gotten a leg-up (double entendre intended) with Harry she wouldn’t stand a chance. She’s just one of a thousand other blonde, artsy-fartsy society girls aiming for relevance but missing by a country mile.

  12. Chinoiserie says:

I think many introvert people like acting (I personally know such people) and the publicity might be just required. Not saying that is the case here.

  13. Chrissy says:

What a horrible cover pic. Who thought it was a good idea to give us a shot of the inside of her nose? LOL

  14. JenniferJustice says:

She’s 26 and “determined to support herself”, that tells me she currently does not support herself. So, she’s in her mid to late 20’s and still living off Mommy and Daddy and whatever sugar daddy she currently has. I’m doubting she’ll ever fully support herself.

If she’s a good actress, so be it, but I don’t find her beautiful or even pretty. She’s pleasant – plain, but pleasant.

  15. Dash says:

She is always going to be Harry’s ex…. At this stage we haven’t seen her act, if she’s terrible I can’t imagine her career going too far.

  16. StormsMama says:

The cover looks nothing like her

  17. perplexed says:

I can see a performer not being shy when they are on stage because the lines are written for them. They’re not thinking up what to say — they’re thinking more along the lines of interpreting what has been written for them to say (assuming the person can actually act, and even if you can’t, you just say the lines anyway and people might not be able to tell you’re bad at what you’re doing).

I think it’s harder to make small talk or other forms of spontaneous conversation because you’re responsible for what you say, and you can’t necessarily rehearse beforehand or plan out how you want to come across.

  18. ican'tsnap says:

This is hilarious. She’s said to have a tiny role in Tulip Fever, and that “critically acclaimed hit play” was a one-off thing that played a few dates in a festival.

Honestly, she should be embarrassed. I would be. Quietly work on your craft and see where that gets you. Shamelessly using her relationship with Harry to get modeling work (the girl is no model), publicity… any publicity possible! PLEASE LOOK AT ME! is not the way to do it.
