Here are some photos of Gisele Bundchen walking her – gasp! – last runway show EVER. Gisele was in Brazil for Sao Paula Fashion Week and yesterday, she walked the runway for Colcci. Gisele announced over the weekend that this would be her last catwalk ever, of her entire modeling career. She’s not retiring in total – she’s still the face of many beauty/fashion/whatever contracts, and she’s still going to model for magazine editorials. She’s just done with the runway.
Her reason for retiring from the runway? She told a Brazilian paper: “Automatically my body tells me if what I do is worth it, and it asked to stop. I respect my body, it’s a privilege to be able to stop. Stopping will leave room for other projects I have for myself.” She also posted this message on Instagram: “I am grateful that at 14, I was given the opportunity to start this journey. Today after 20 years in the industry, it is a privilege to be doing my last fashion show by choice and yet still be working in other facets of the business.”
So what does Tom Brady think of his wife’s decision? He posted this on Facebook:
“Congratulations Love of my Life. You inspire me every day to be a better person. I am so proud of you and everything you have accomplished on the runway. I have never met someone with more of a will to succeed and determination to overcome any obstacle in the way. You never cease to amaze me. Nobody loves life more then you and your beauty runs much deeper then what the eye can see. I can’t wait to see what’s next. I love you. #GOAT #thebestisyettocome.”
#GOAT meaning “greatest of all time” I’m assuming. A nice compliment from a husband to a wife, but I do wonder if we will regard Gisele as the greatest model of all time. She’s a great model, for sure. She’s one of the biggest and richest models of all time, definitely. Personally though, I don’t think Gisele’s retirement from the runway is such a huge deal because for years now, she’s basically only walked in Brazil. She retired from Victoria’s Secret years ago and I can’t remember the last time she walked a runway in Paris or London or New York. It was probably just before or just after she got pregnant with Ben? It’s been years.
Anyway, so long Gisele. We’ll see you on about a million magazine covers this year, I’m sure.

I also find self-written vows cringeworthy and would never do them.
I just think things are more sincere when they’re not a show for the public.

And I am a romantic – I just think that if my husband posted that for millions to see, he’s trying to convince someone other than me. For me, a lovely card would be so much better. For my eyes only. I’m not understanding the “my body told me to stop” thing. She’s…..walking. Down a runway. I’m pretty sure she’s not going to let herself get fat, and she seems like she’s the eat really well/exercise type….so does she mean she doesn’t want to be flying around the world anymore?

I think it has to do with the traveling, especially when she was younger and would model in every runway. She apparently had panic attacks when she was dating Leo, but she doesn’t talk about it. So, I am not sure if it is true.
It might also have to do with handling the stress of other people. Being in a backstage area with a dozen other models all trying to get dressed in sometimes rather bizarre costumes that may or may not be actually finished, while an army of hair stylists and make-up people fuss over them, and the designer hovers about in a panic may be stress her body could do without
I agree with Miss M and Lilacflowers. I read that interview. I don’t know why some people think it’s about diets. She is healthy.

Yeah I mean…we all make fun of models’ skill set–it’s not brain surgery– but even I have to admit that their schedule seems really f*cking grueling and hectic at times.
She has a beautiful family and a boatload of money, she probably just wants to kick back and chill, you know? I know I would.
Runway modelsI think are required to more thin than those who do editorials. It is probably difficult to stay very thin all the time.
I think it’s also to do with the fact that there’s no photoshop on the runway. Being thin is not enough if you ‘re gonna walk in your panties in front of all the fashion people in bad light, you also have to have a super tight body without cellulite. Maybe she;s tired of being runway ready and is fine with having a bit of cellulite.
forgot to add: which she CAN’T have if she wants to be remembered as GISELE, THE SUPERMODEL. She might want to go away while she’s still on top.
I was a little confused, too. Maybe it’s the weird way they walk? Her legs told her no more strutting?
That makes no sense. We;re literally talking walking down the runway in 2 or 3 different outfits, and then she;s out, back to her 5 star hotel. Unlike all the other no-name hungry sleep-deprived 17-year-olds who run to the next show… and then six more, then go to sleep for 3-4 hours and start all over again, day after day for the whole fashion week in every city. (which she used to do back in the day too, in all fairness)
Not really. Anyone who has ever been backstage at a fashion show can tell you how it looks and feels. Insane. This in addition to the weeks prior to the show on a severe diet plus the travelling, waking up basically in the middle of the night to get hair-make up, etc. It’s not walking really. It’s exhausting and takes a toll on the body, especially as the time passes.

She didn’t drop the weight as fast and as far down after this last pregnancy. It has to be a tough job to stay runway ready as a mom of three. It sounds like she has had enough of that. Plus designers can be totally a-holes if you aren’t a size 00 as she has been her whole career until now.
Nah, there is thin and then there’s runway thin. Perhaps she’s not interested in trying to stay borderline gaunt any longer. I’m sure she’ll still still look great and fit.
To be honest, it probably is the dieting and exercise. What those women do to keep the weight off to runway standards can get pretty grueling, if not outright unhealthy, and why should she continue putting her body through that when she’s Gisele Bundchen? She can make her money without the stress of the travel, physical demands, and backstage drama. She can’t lose.

She actually hasn’t walked that many runway shows in years except for in Brazil.
Her appearances at fashion week are very sporadic, even Naomi Campbell has walked more than her these past 3 seasons. So I’m not sure why its such a thing, but good luck to her.

I’m not a huge fan of Gisele or Tom, but I have to say, they seem like a celebrity couple who are genuinely happily married. I hope that’s really the case. Anyone from the Boston area have any insights?
There are no rumblings of anything but happiness. They are frequently seen out and about with the kids and dog. They seem very solid. I’ve encountered her when she’s been out running and she is stunning but perfectly pleasant to people. He does a lot of very public charity work, which is part of his job, but they both do quieter work they don’t seek attention for. He recently announced that he plans to stay here post retirement because they want to raise the kids here

I was curious about that “my body told me stop” bit. I guess it makes sense, weight-wise. I think runway models are under the most scrutiny and she probably has to eat very little to hover at runway weight, whereas magazine editorials can be more forgiving. Who knows, maybe she wants to have more kids.

What same fate? I think Moynahan is doing just fine. And they’re friends. They really are. If they can let it go, surely you can too.
Why bring it up? Tom & Bridget had already split before she found out she was pregnant. What were they supposed to do? Marry, then divorce in a year? Maybe Bridget planned it, thinking she’d keep him?
Tom was stand-up: acknowledged immediately, financially supports, and actively parents the boy. Giselle is a conscientious stepmother, well aware that her kids have a brother.
She’s the last of the supermodels in the true sense of the word, and even if she did cut down on runway work, she was a blue chip model and getting her to walk a show was always a HUGE get for the designers in Paris/Milan/New York. And she owned it, none of this faux-relatability crap for her.
Now some people need to get over the fact that, gasp, her husband began dating her after breaking off with his ex.

She will stay much more youthful looking if she can have more weight. I would totally not bother with modeling if I were her. She is set and can take her family all over the world to travel. Enjoy!

I get why she’s a big deal, but she’s personally never done anything for me looks wise. But then, I think the media obsession with models is ridiculous to begin with.
Me, too. She is a handsome woman, kind of like Amal Clooney, but I don’t find her pretty or gorgeous or even very pleasing to look at. Now Charlize Theron, her face is fabulous!!!
In Brazil, lots of people think like you. It’s not uncommon to see someone saying she’s not even pretty. I don’t think she’s the most gorgeous woman in the world, but saying she’s not pretty is a bit too much, lol.
She has always had an amazing energy surrounding her, her confidence and presence is really attractive. Her husbands message to her is so sweet, they seem very genuine.
I didn’t know she even still did runway work. If I had her money and other business deals, I would have quit that circus ages ago!
The letter is really sweet, but it always seems odd to me that people share stuff like that on social media, especially when one or both parties is famous.

Gisele is tapping out because the “it crowd” just got really young all of a sudden. She didn’t want to compete with 17 and 18 year old girls anymore. Besides her face isn’t aging that well. Maybe it is the hair color that makes her look harsh. But aside from her perfect human hanger body type, she isn’t extraordinarily beautiful in my opinion. She’s no Linda Evangelista or Laeticia Casta or even Christy Turlington. I never understood the big deal about her.
I don’t understand the hype of Gisele retiring from runway. As mentioned, she barely done any shows since having kids if not before. And it’s not as if she’s retiring from modeling. With all of her contracts and covers, I doubt anybody would notice she stopped doing runway.
I never really “got” Giselle.
Let’s face it, this ain’t her last runway. They’ll get her carcass outta the deep freeze and chuck it down the catwalk a couple more times before the decade is out, when the price is right.

I think Gisele is one of greatest models, especially because she has such a unique look. Even pictures I’ve seen of her without makeup, out running errands or on the beach with her kids…she still looks gorgeous. The camera loves her and she always appears elegant.
