Chris Martin admires Michael Jackson’s comeback

Michael Jackson is one of those celebrities who always draws out the strongest reactions. Despite what I think of him (child molester who should be in jail), I recognize that Michael is still beloved by a sizeable chunk of people in America and around the world. Still, it always surprises me when someone really high-profile gives him their seal of approval.

Take Chris Martin of Coldplay and Gwyneth “The Goop” Paltrow fame. Chris seems like the kind of person who would avoid ever saying the name “Michael Jackson”. As it turns out though, he’s a huge Michael Jackson fan. Chris is totally bummed that he didn’t get tickets to one of Michael’s concerts, and he voiced his sadness publicly.

Coldplay frontman Chris Martin is desperate to score a ticket to one of Michael Jackson’s comeback concerts – after missing out when the shows went on sale earlier this month (Mar09).

The rocker is a huge fan of the King Of Pop and was thrilled when Jackson announced his upcoming This Is It run at London’s O2 arena.

But he was devastated after the Thriller legend’s 50-date residency sold out within hours of going on general sale, leaving Martin without a ticket to much-hyped shows.

He says, “I was looking at it on the internet and thought, ‘I’d better buy some for myself’ and I couldn’t. They were totally sold out.”

“To sell out like that is a testament to talent. It is just amazing to sell out 50 shows in one city in a big arena. It’s the biggest comeback since Lazarus. It’s good news – but not for me.” Jackson’s gigs kick off on 8 July (09) and will run into February 2010.

Is it a “testament to talent”? Really? I can’t tell, because reading any story about Michael Jackson makes me a little sick to my stomach. Yes, when I was little I had Thriller, and I danced to it constantly. I knew all the words to all the songs. That was back when Michael was a musical genius, but should that genius allow him to get away with doing any depraved thing he wants? Yes, he made some great albums, but I wouldn’t want to hear any of it today. Am I the only one?

Yes,in the last 5 years,it’s become too difficult for me to even listen to his music…which is a shame,b/c he’s a musical genius. But I get sick to my stomach now-molestation or not,he’s just too much of a freak/disturbed,to appreciate the music separately for me.
Madonna is nearly there for me,as well.
Though I can still take a little Ray of Light now and then.
Prob. a few more months, and that’ll be that w/her as well.
[Not that she has near the talent as MJ,just the same where I cannot separate musical nostalgia from present day freakiness any longer.]
    What is that saying?
    To everything there’s a season,right?(:

Why would other artists care about Jacko’s private life? They all know what it is to live in the spotlight and to be kicked around by the media all day. Naturally, they judge him on the merits of his talent, and if you think of Jacko on that level, there is still no one out there who created the type of magic he did onstage, no matter what he looks like. You can’t strip someone of their achievements just because you don’t like them. Not to mention, both of his accusers had parents who had criminal histories for suing people for false claims in the past which I always thought was rediculous and far too flimsy to actually take seriously. Being able to sell out 50 concerts in five minutes is a testament to the appeal he still has as an entertainer and a clear sign that despite what the media has been promoting forever, he’s far from a has-been.

I’m with you on this Kaiser – the fact that he’s still trying to be in the public eye makes me sick. I wish he’d just go away and stay away.

    Guilty because we think so

As a person who’s faced the same accusations MJ has, I always love reading know-it-all remarks like this. I prefer to blame his problems on the immense pressure Joe Jackson put on his minor children to succeed in business. The most-normal ones are the ones who backed out of the spotlight sooner, like Rebbie, Randy, Jackie, and Tito.

As if Chris couldn’t just go backstage without a ticket… well maybe if he brought his kids with him.
