Game of Thrones: Was ‘Hardhome’ the big mic-drop moment of GoT?

GOT1

SPOILERS for last night’s episode of Game of Thrones, “Hardhome.”

There’s a problem with ending a GoT episode with twenty full minutes of insane, life-or-death drama, with packing so much horror/fantasy at such high costs into what was already a good episode full of worthy, dramatic moments: the viewer sort of forgets about everything else besides the high-drama. Even though what’s happening in Meereen is a worthy storyline, and even though we’re finally getting a major payoff on years of Cersei’s bitchery, it all seems mundane and unimportant after the events at Hardhome. So, here are some highlights.

Arya’s Training Continues. While everything in Westeros and Meereen seems to be moving very quickly, it seems like Arya’s story is moving at a glacial pace. It’s good to see her out of The House of Black & White and out in the Braavos world. She adopted the persona of Lana, an oyster lady. Jaqen H’ghar is going to get her to kill a gambling mafia type with poisoned oysters, I’m assuming. While I enjoyed this story, they need to speed it up!

Sansa & Reek. I liked that Sansa was waiting for Reek and that she seemed prepared to interrogate him. She got a new piece of information: her brothers Bran and Rickon are still alive (but where?!). Reek also told her that Ramsey had basically cut “pieces” off of him and Sansa was all, “Yep, you totally deserved that.” I like that she didn’t try to kill Reek with whatever weapon she stole from Ramsey. No, she should save that weapon for Ramsey.

Ramsey Wants to Fight Stannis. Ramsey and Roose are talking about their plans for the war with Stannis and Roose is all, “Stannis will never breach Winterfell, let’s just wait him out.” And Ramsey is all “Let’s be proactive!” So Ramsey wants 20 good men to go on what I’m assuming would be a guerrilla-style attack on Stannis and his troops.

Cersei in the jail cell. It kills me a little that she’s still so regal even after being in that jail cell for weeks (?). King Tommen isn’t taking his mother’s and his wife’s arrests too well – he’s not eating and he’s refusing to see visitors. Cersei’s uncle is coming back to King’s Landing to be The Hand of the King, and Uncle Kevin HATES Cersei. Cersei keeps getting whacked in the face with a spoon too. It was an emotional payoff, but I ended up feeling sorry for Cersei a little bit. Terrible, I know.

Jorah, Dany & Tyrion. Jorah & Tyrion standing before Queen Dany was a great scene, made better by Peter Dinklage’s superb acting all-around. Tyrion basically told Dany to spare Jorah’s life because even though Jorah didn’t follow Dany’s command, Jorah is loyal and he loves her and thus deserves to live. It was a moving scene made better by Iain Glenn’s dignified emotion. After that, Tyrion finally gets some wine (he’s been detoxing for weeks!!) and he and Dany make plans for the future. She quickly realizes his value as an advisor and Tyrion is… Tyrion. He’s at his best when he can talk to people, persuade people and find a way to tell people the truth (even if they don’t want to hear it). I feel like that scene was a preview of Varys coming back into the picture, right? Basically, I wouldn’t mind if they did an entire episode of Dany and Tyrion getting drunk together.

Hardhome. I really don’t have a lot to say about this other than the special effects were crazy, the action was insane and everything else in the GoT world just seems like fluff compared to what is happening and what will happen with the White Walkers. Kit Harington told EW that it took about a month to film 20 minutes of Hardhome and you could really tell that HBO spent some real money on those scenes. I’ve never really cared that much about Tormund (the big, ginger wildling), but he was great in this episode, as was Karsi (Birgitte Hjort Sørensen).

The Night’s King. The Night’s King is apparently the freak White Walker at the end, dressed in a fancy uniform, and able to raise the newly dead into silent zombies with a wave of his hand. Vanity Fair did an interesting breakdown of who the guy is and who he was. As in, he might be a former Lord Commander of the Night’s Watch. Damn, bro. One question though: do the White Walkers not like water? Can they not swim? Because it seems like it would have been pretty easy for them to get to Jon Snow’s little boat.

On next week’s episode… Jamie in Dorne, Dany watching the fights and Jon Snow returns to the Wall with the Wildlings.

I have been disappointed this season. But last night made me forget all of that.

The last 20 minutes were f##king awesome. I need white walkers every episode now, please. And I also need Ramsay to meet the Night King on his way to torture Stannis.

    • WinterLady says:

My dream would be for Ramsey, preferably while fleeing from Stannis/Sansa/who ever in fear for his life, comes face to face with a random white walker, who takes care of him in one easy motion. Or he stumbles on some dire wolves. Or he just bites it already, no matter how.

But yes, seeing the White Walkers in action and showing the puny humans their power was freaking awesome. The show has advanced that plot more then GRRM has in 20+ years, so kudos to them.

      • Lilacflowers says:

I hoping that Arya’s missing direwolf Nymeria rips his throat out.

      • WinterLady says:

Nymeria ripping Ramsey to shreds would be poetic justice. I know I’d raise a lighter if that happens.

      • booboobird says:

dire wolf yes. white walker 100% no. Ramsey has done enough damage in living form. no need for more in any other. just be gone… as painfully as possible, please.

      • mimif says:

I am so down with Ramsey getting his jugular ripped out by Nymeria, or Ghost even. Ditto to the poetic justice.

      • mayamae says:

Those methods are far too quick. I say flay him, then while still alive, give him to Melisandre and she can burn him alive.

      • WinterLady says:

Thinking about it, Ramsey might come face to face with Stannis next week. I hope Stannis the Mannis gives him a good licking, even if he doesn’t kill him.

“You used there instead of their? Melisandre, ready your fires!”

    • LadyMTL says:

Yep, I loved last night’s episode. Not only for the attack on Hardhome but for the scenes with Tyrion and Dany too. When a GoT episode works, it really works.

Now I really can’t wait to see what happens 2 eps from now, because you KNOW the 9th episode is when all of the sh*t hits the fan, plotline-wise. 😀

      • Rachel says:

I’m afraid Jon is going to have to lead an assault on the wall because Allisar will refuse to let them thru. I hope I’m wrong though. I hope Sam can convince enough of the brothers of the value in what Jon is doing, so they turn on Allisar.

      • mimif says:

How many people actually escaped from the massacre tho? Looked like a pitiful few.

      • Size Does Matter says:

@Rachel – I think they will come in through Eastwatch and go south of the Wall there, so they don’t actually pass beneath the Wall at Castle Black. Has a White Walker ever been south of the Wall? Or does the whole Wall have to come down for them to pass?

      • mimif says:

@Size, I don’t think they can physically pass thru the wall.

    • Gretchen says:

Loved it too. Dany FINALLY has a decent advisor, Sansa’s learning some valuable info…but really, who cares, there are freaking zombies north of the wall and we finally get a good look at The Night’s King. After years of build-up and the story being on the back burner it finally pays off, I think that was the most excited I’ve ever been watching the series. And bonus points: all the ladies got to keep their clothes on. Only disappointment for me was Karsi getting killed off so quickly, as soon as she put her kids in the boat it seemed inevitable, but still, she was interesting and I would have liked to see her stick around for a bit longer.

The writers set the bar pretty high with this episode, so I wonder if they’re going to be able to match the excitement and balls to the wall adrenaline in the finale.

      • mimif says:

I was bummed the Wildling woman died too. I was like YES finally another bad ass female on the show.

      • Davy says:

Except Karsi will now be a kick ass white walker which is awesome, so she’s not “gone”. Her being turned WW adds emotional heft to the Wildlings have to kill their former friends & families who are now WW

      • mimif says:

        Yeah good point, Davy.

      • Gretchen says:

True, true Davy. I hope we get the pleasure of watching her zombie-mangle Alliser Thorne.

      • mayamae says:

I wondered if she was Tormund’s wife. They made a point of him saying he had two daughters, which was pretty coincidental.

      • mayamae says:

And her two little girls had red hair.

    • NYer says:

Tormund has made me do a 180 on gingers.

      • mimif says:

ME TOO. I have a genetic predisposition to dislike gingers (my brother is one) and Tormund completely overrode that.

  2. Easi says:

I wondered why they stopped at the water too!

    • Lozface says:

Me too! I also thought the boat must have stood still for a good 5 minutes, 10 metres from the shore.

Great episode… It was like GoT meets TWD!

    • Size Does Matter says:

In the book Jon Snow doesn’t go to Hardhome. He sends a lieutenant and a bunch of borrowed ships. The lieutenant reports back via raven that the whole mission went completely sideways. The wild kings refuse to part from their women and children because slavers had already visited. And there were “dead things in the water.” If the wights could have gone in the water it would have been a complete massacre, though, and Jon Snow would have died in Hardhome at their hands. He has too much more work to do (I hope) for that to happen, so HBO had to change it. I was afraid the Night’s King would freeze the water and they would all charge across!

      • mimif says:

That scene tho when they are basically just…rowing to nowhere and the Giant is all f-ck this shit, and the devastation on the shore. My eyes were bugging out of my head trying to take it all in.

      • Size Does Matter says:

I was like “ROW FASTER BITCHES!” Or get towed by the giant. Gah! And the weird hooded person in the boat? I was afraid it was a bad guy in disguise!!! Loved the whole thing. Were you totally checking out the NK for signs of Starkness?

      • mimif says:

Ha, yes! I was reading about him again last night, dude’s name was supposedly Bran and his brother (a Stark) ran him off, so….he’s gotta be a Stark right? I loved how he assessed Jon tho, he quite obviously has the upper hand, but still when Jon killed that WW, the NK was like, ummm who dis kid?
I’m so inarticulate today. Totally drank waaaay too much wine while watching that episode last night.

      • Size Does Matter says:

And when the wight lemmings all ran off the cliff?!? The Night’s Watch are going to feel like a bunch of asshats when they see the NK Roadshow of Doom.

      • mimif says:

It’s going to be such a cluster-ck. Did you see the promo for ep 9?

      • Davy says:

@mimif YES and the choice to use no soundtrack at the end just silent devastation ahh this episode was incredible.

      • Size Does Matter says:

I was numb when they showed the promo, can’t remember a thing. I have to go back and rewatch.

      • mayamae says:

I was worried about the giant, but then he bounded into the water. I thought he was going to grab the boat and pull, but nope he just booked right past them.

      • Gretchen says:

Yes! I was worried about the hooded figure in the boat, dude was way too still and calm considering the chaos around them. Kept thinking at Jon ‘check the eyes under that hood, for the love of the North check the eyes!’

The giant cracked me up with his ‘f-ck all y’all’ attitude.

I’ve been feeling a bit blah about this season, particularly after Sansa-gate, but now I. Can’t. Wait. This was a departure from the books I can definitely get behind, less boobs more zombies!

      • mimif says:

I just watched it again and who was that hooded dude in the boat?!

      • Liv says:

How was the giant supposed to climb onto their ship? I can’t imagine that.

And yes, I thought too that the man under the hood was a white walker.

Aaaand I got the impression that the white walkers were just like “You can run, but we’ll come anyway.” I believe they actually can get through water??

    • Isabelle says:

Its hard to row after you’ve crapped your pants. They were rowing then they stopped when King Cold did his stunt.

    • double says:

They’re ice people. Water either melts them or they freeze the water trapping themselves. How was this such a big question everywhere?

      • mimif says:

It’s been said elsewhere here, but regardless of their water traveling capabilities, I still think the Night’s King was like, we aren’t following you because we don’t have to. Jon’s face said it all.

  3. evie says:

I hope Sansa makes some kind of move to escape while Ramsay is off attacking Stannis!!

    • Size Does Matter says:

Oh, good point! She can use the auger (or Theon) to break out of her room and go light the candle in the broken tower maybe. Or, I’m hoping she puts the moves on Roose and convinces him to get rid of Ramsay/liability and make a new non-psycho legitimate heir with her. And I’m totally on Sansa bump watch. Her dress was awfully loose in the midsection. I truly hope that doesn’t happen.

      • mimif says:

That would be an interesting twist with Roose, but no way he’s going to listen to Sansa. I think I will puke if she gets knocked up with Ramsey’s baby, ugh, can you imagine? I think I said this last week, but we are going to have major problems if/when Brienne and Stannis ever come face to face. I’m always shooting Theon down, but maybe, just maybe, he will help Sansa get out of there. Abot I’m looking at you!

      • Davy says:

I like this play. I don’t necessarily think it’s going to happen, but would be awesome to see Sansa use those manipulation skills.

I do think she will get pregnant. She survives and escapes, Boltons go down, but she’s pregnant so gets/gives herself abortion. You see a new side of her, ruthless and tactical, she gets rid of ties to Bolton and is free to strategically re marry.

The internet, of course, is super pissed off about the abortion

      • Abbott says:

I love how now you’re the one holding out for Theon now 🙂 Dude telling Sansa the truth about her brothers is the closest thing he’ll get to redemption.

      • Size Does Matter says:

And what is Ramsay up to, exactly? Plant himself as poor escaped refugee and get Stannis from the inside? Kill Stannis outright in ambush? Kidnap Shireen? Kidnap Melisandre?

      • mimif says:

Lol at your last sentence Davy, you know it.

@Abot, I blame it all on you!

      • mayamae says:

If Ramsay is going to come into close contact with Stannis, surely the point is for Melisandre to burn him. Please tell me I’m right.

      • Senaber says:

I think she has the kid in secret. Kid becomes new Jon Snow. (Joe Snow?) 🙂

    • Isabelle says:

She is going to open the gate if she can get out of that damn room.

      • phlyfiremama says:

I think so too! Either the gate or some other access to Winterfell, maybe through the Crypts? ANYTHING has got to be better than EITHER of the Boltons (although Cousin Mumsey’s {The Golden Child} voice does THINGS to my loins). At which point they will discover the silver harp, the wedding cape, and Stannis will realize that he really ISN’T the rightful heir to the Iron Throne. He is, after all, the closest thing to a man of honor still left after Ned Stark died~so what choices will HE make after true parentage is revealed, and Dany comes riding in on Drogon to claim her rightful throne?! OMG this SHOW!!!

  4. Lilacflowers says:

Hodor! That scene with Dany and Tyrion drinking wine was everything! Hodor! Except for Cersei getting whacked with a spoon! Hodor!! Hodor!! And Sansa’s verbal beat-down of Theon and her joyous expression learning that Bran and Rickon are alive!!! Hodor!!! Hodor!!! Hodor!!! Valyrian steel takes out White Walkers! Hodor!!!! Hodor!!!! Hodor!!!! Birgitte Hjort Sorenson totally rocks in everything! Hodor!!! (Seriously, is an actor from the Donmar’s Coriolanus going to appear in a near the end of a season episode of GOT every year? Last year it was Mark Gatiss. Deborah Findlay next year? Is Tom Hiddleston the third head of the dragon?) The Night King can raise the zombies with a wave of his hand!!!! HODOR!!!!

Next episode: will Cersei get her judgment? Will Ghost and Jon finally share a scene? Will Rhaegon return to Dany? Will Brienne finally have something to do? Will Varys do that thing he does in the books that i won’t mention? Will Winter finally come?

    • Nikki says:

Why does everyone say HODOR? I wasn’t around for that.

      • Lilacflowers says:

Hodor is a character who is carrying Bran Stark. His name is really Walder but Hodor is the only thing he says so they call him that. Classic line: “Hodor stop Hodoring!”

      • Miss Jupitero says:

Hodor is the huge simple-minded stableboy who works for the Stark family in Winterfell and is entrusted with carrying Bran. His defining characteristic is that he only speaks a single word: “Hodor.” Everybody loves Hodor. He has a huge fandom.

      • annaloo. says:

And Hodor DJs in real life

      • mimif says:

        And has face tats!

    • Abbott says:

Winter has already been BROUGHTEN! HODOR!!!!

      • Lilacflowers says:

No, Winter has not been brought yet. It is still only Autumn and Winter is coming. Winter will make it snow in King’s Landing. The Citadel sends out white ravens to announce Winter’s arrival.

      • mimif says:

KL already received a white Raven. HODOR!!
Abot, I thought of you last night when Reek spilled da beanz to Sansa…maybe there’s hope for your boy just yet!

      • Lilacflowers says:

Wasn’t that the Autumn raven? It’s not snowing there yet and, in the books, things happen when the white raven arrives that haven’t happened yet

      • mimif says:

In season 2, Pycelle presents a white raven from the Conclave of Oldtown to the Small Council, announcing the end of summer. I don’t remember an Autumn raven, but I don’t remember much from the books. Autumn is coming just doesn’t have the same ring to it, does it?

      • Size Does Matter says:

What do the Starks say when winter is here?

        We told you so.

        😉

      • Lilacflowers says:

Ah the raven in Season 2 was for Autumn. The winter one hasn’t arrived yet

      • mimif says:

What does the Winter Raven look like? DOES IT HAVE ICE BLUE EYES?!

      • Nikki says:

Thank you all for explaining 🙂

    • phlyfiremama says:

      HODOR!!!

  5. mia girl says:

    Last night’s episode was amazing.

  6. QQ says:

every season There is An Opulent, clusterfuck amazing ep where I say : This is the Best Thing weve seen on TV in 10 years and Every season they Top themselves… Im hoarse today from Screaming Last night.. I was beyond fk!ng stressed!!

Also Sansa Better keep this info to herself or Brienn better get to her before Littlefinger does!

Tyrion and Dany trading Strategy Games: YESSSSS

Cat of The Canals Arya Spy Training Camp: livinnnngg I wonder if they’ll include the other part of her training

Hardhome was off the books but such a treat for everyone- take notes TWD show peole This is how you deviate from the books and still make it exciting and special and fun

    • Abbott says:

So glad Tyrion finally got his drank on.

      • mimif says:

Abot your boy Theon is making some progress in the right direction.
And Tyrion stroking his mega-beard, he’s so damn sexy. Dude I wish him and Dany would hook up, he totally makes her worth watching.

      • Size Does Matter says:

Totally agree. Tyrion makes Dany so much MOAR!

  7. Betti says:

The Nights King to Jon: ‘Jon, I am your father’ – LOL

He looks soo cool – its about time the brought these guys into the story line after all they have been hinted at for SOOOOO long.

  8. mia girl says:

But I’m worried about Sam. Anyone else think his food might have been poisoned?!!?!!

    • Rachel says:

I’ve been waiting for both him and Jon to be poisoned. After that look Olly gave Jon when he said he was going to let the wildlings thru the gate, I told Jon he better start having Olly taste his food.

    • ScrewStewrat19 says:

I was freaking out last night because I was so worried that little punk poisoned Sam. I really hope he didn’t. I love Sam!

    • Racheal2000 says:

      I thought the same!

    • mimif says:

I’m more worried that Olly is gonna, um, have a little convo with Jon. They’ve cutaway to his face too many times when Jon is talking, and then that little scene between the two of them. Olly is a total liability at this point. Sam and Gilly are outta there!

      • Davy says:

I think olly will kill a Wildling and Jon will have to choose whether or not to punish him, he will, and the nights watch are pissed and *kill Jon

      • mimif says:

***SPOILERS*** I think Olly is going to stabby stabby Jon. You saw what he did to Ygritte…

      • mayamae says:

mimif, that was self-defense. They were being attacked and he thought he was saving Jon. I was worried about Sam’s food.

      • mimif says:

@maya, yes you are correct, but he nailed her and was quite satisfied about it. Just saying little dude is tough as nails and it isn’t a stretch (IMO) that he could also take out a certain someone whom he found threatening.

  9. Jen43 says:

Awesome episode!! Doesn’t it seem, though, that the last few episodes are sometimes better than the final episode?

Also, no wonder Kit has a big head. Not only is he objectified in real life, but the Wildlings think he’s pretty too. I was so sad when that Wildling mom stayed behind. Damn, GOT, do I really have to worry for her girls now?

    • Lilacflowers says:

HBO shows have a tradition of the next to the last episode of a season being a stunner and the final episode of the season simply wrapping things up and setting up the next season.

    • Original T.C. says:

Forget her gender for a minute, Karsi (the Mom) was a warrior. She stayed behind to fight and help the weak onto safety. Stopping the White Walkers to her was her duty to her people and her children. But sure her final scene with the children zombies broke by heart to pieces. She could slice down any man to pieces in a second but those dead children and her FANTASTIC facial expression. Damn. This episode was one of the best.

      • mimif says:

That was an awesome scene, I can’t wait to watch it all over again.

      • mayamae says:

Where I post about the show, the majority of posters loved her character. She looked like Lauren Cohan from TWD, and sounded like she walked off the set of Vikings. “I f*cking hate the Thenns”.

  10. mom2two says:

I don’t know if it is the big mic drop yet. But it’s close. This was the best episode of the season, by far.
Watching it, I realized how dumb they all are for jockeying for the Iron Throne when the real threat is North of the Wall and with a limited supply of dragon glass and Valeryian Steel…they don’t stand much of a chance.
I mean who has Valeryian Steel..Jon does with Longclaw and Jaime and Brienne do since they both have half of Ned Stark’s melted down sword (sob)? I don’t think it’s ever been established that Arya’s Needle or Robb Stark’s sword were made out of Valeryian Steel (I’d bet not since Jon got Longclaw from Jeor Mormont). And there is not enough of Valeryian Steel and dragonglass to go around to defeat the “undead White Walker” army.
It seems to me that Dany needs to be told of the threat North of the Wall. Her dragons are the only hope to defeat that.

    • Lilacflowers says:

There’s dragon glass at Dragonstone. Last episode, Stannis said there was lots of it there. But Valeryian steel is in short supply.

      • Pamela says:

What is dragon glass? I know it is a substance that they showed, and that this substance can kill a white walker. But is it glass made from dragon breath or something? If so, I am wondering if a dragon can fly overhead and just fire throw down an entire army of white walkers with a few big exhales.

Also, where IS Rikon? Is he dead? I lost track of his character…he isn’t with Bran at the tree is he? Do we, as viewers, even *know* where he is?

      • Rachel says:

Dragon glass is obsidian. I’m assuming it’s made the same way in GoT world as in the real world. And it can kill the white walkers because it’s created from absolute heat while white walkers are made of absolute cold?

We never heard from Rickon after he and Osha split off from Bran’s group. I guess the writers kind of let his character go because everyone was sick of his temper tantrums…

      • Size Does Matter says:

In the book, Rickon is supposed to be at Skagos. On the show, he’s supposed to be at Last Hearth. Both with Osha and Shaggydog.

      • Lilacflowers says:

@Rachel, Rickon, OSHA, and Shaggydog split from Bran early on. They actually stayed around longer on the show than in the books. At this point in the story, someone unexpected gets sent in search of them. I’m hoping the show follows that path.

      • mayamae says:

@mom2two, Jaime gave his sword to Brienne, so his is not Valyrian steel. Joffrey’s is buried with him. Arya’s Needle is made of castle-forged steel (per GoT Wiki).

    • Abbott says:

YES. North of the Wall is where the bidness is at. Who cares about the Iron Throne? (Dany, Cersei, Littlefinger, but you get the idea.)

    • msd says:

Yep, reminds me of the end of Season 1.

When dead men, and worse, come hunting for us in the night, do you think it matters who sits the Iron Throne? … I will not sit meekly by and wait for the snows. I mean to find out what’s happening. The Night’s Watch will ride in force against the wildlings, the White Walkers, and whatever else is out there. And we will find Benjen Stark, alive or dead. I will command them myself. So I will ask you once, Lord Snow, are you a brother of the Night’s Watch, or a bastard boy who wants to play at war?

I miss Lord Commander Mormont, he was great. 🙁 And everyone has forgotten Uncle Benjen. I hope he isn’t just dead under a tree!

      • Abbott says:

I thought maybe the White Walker in the shed was a former Night Watch? What was the deal on his uniform?

      • mimif says:

I haven’t forgotten Benjen! I miss Commander Mormont too. I didn’t catch that Abot, they all looked like cavalry soldiers to me. And oh the little wight children, so creepy!

      • mayamae says:

The NW is now dismissed as rapists and murderers, but they are destined to become heroic figures once again, IMO.

    • Rachel says:

Jamie’s sword is not Valeryian steel. He gave his half to Brienne. The other half was given to Joffrey as a wedding gift from Lord Tywin. They never stated on the show what happened to Joffrey’s half when he died. I’ve always wondered if people were entombed with their Valeryian steel swords. Seems like such a waste if so.

I seem to recall from the book that Jon did tell Arya Needle was made from Valeryian steel when he gave it to her, but I don’t know where he would have gotten Valeryian steel. Lilacflowers, please clear this up for us…

      • Seán says:

Needle is not Valyrian steel. Jon had the Winterfell blacksmith Mikken make Needle for Arya. When the Doom hit Valyria, much of their craftwork, steelmaking and sorcery was lost so very few people can create Valyrian steel. Only the people of the Free City of Qohor can create Valyrian weapons now (it might be the people Volantis in the show).

Most of the swords owned by nobles in the Seven Kingdoms date back to Valyria. Ned Stark’s Valyrian sword Ice was melted into two swords – Widow’s Wail (given to Joffrey) and Oathkeeper (which was given to Jaime who in turn gave it to Brienne). Some of the other noble houses may also have Valyrian swords but it’s a small number.

      • Clara says:

I thought Tommen now had Joffery’s sword and don’t forget the assasin who tried to kill Bran in season one had a dagger from Little Finger, who says he had lost it gambling to Tyrion. Also House Tarly, the house of Samwell Tarly, has Heartsbane. House Corbray, a house in service to the Vale, has Lady Forlorn all made from Valyrian Steel. Why Valyrian Steel kills white walkers though nobody knows, yet.

      • mimif says:

I thought it is known/suspected that Valyrian swords were forged with dragon’s fire? Or am I making that up.

      • Size Does Matter says:

I think it takes special Valeryian sorcery to make them but not dragon fire. Weren’t they made in the mines, where the volcanos are? I read online yesterday (Reddit) that there are something like 224 known Valeryian weapons (Caggo had an arakh, there is also an axe, and the rest swords or knives I think). Dawn – belonged to the Daynes, one named Red Rain (?) belonged to be Reynes (?).

How many White Walkers are there? The four on the hill were officers but there are numerous others? And are they created by changing a live baby?

      • mimif says:

I think it’s suspected that the WW’s are farmed, basically, since they have no Queen. Because you know where the Queen is, right?!
My head hurts, but I am going to research these pertinent questions and report back at 1300 hours.
        PAOLANQAR SHOW YOURSELF!

      • Lilacflowers says:

The dagger used to attack Bran, no matter who owned it before or claimed it after, was sent by Joffrey

      • phlyfiremama says:

Maybe Gendry’s blacksmith could re-forge the Valeryian steel? The one who was training him in Kings Landing? Maybe GENDRY himself, because he is the son of Robert Baratheon and therefore has king’s blood running through his veins, can do it? I definitely got the impression from the books that there was unfinished business between him and Arya~
By the way, if you read the books BEFORE the TV show and BEFORE all the discussion on this page I HIGHLY recommend you re-read them~so MANY subtle nuances reveal themselves more fully. (*bows to GRRM, the Fantasy High Maester)

      • mayamae says:

@mimif, what do you mean the WW are farmed? And no, I don’t know who the queen is. Don’t tease, spill! Not Lyanna Stark – wasn’t she cremated?

If all WW originate in human baby boys, where would a female fit in? And if the NK is a Stark, was he taken as a baby?

      • Rae says:

Oh @sizedoesmatter, that’s a great point! If the swords are forged in volcanoes, that would explain why they have the same effect as obsidian.

And yes mimif! Where the hell is Paola?!?!

I have no guesses as to a queen, but wasn’t there an old story Nan used to tell the kids about a wildling falling in love with a Stark and having his baby? Then she returned north of the wall? Am I making this up at this point? There’s just too much to remember! I need cliff notes and flow charts. A venn diagram or two… thousand.

      • dread pirate cuervo says:

@mayamae. The Night King isn’t it the books, right? Too many thousands of pages read since I finished that series for me to remember. What if, since the show is so off the books now, the Night King is Jon Snow’s twin? The NK was staring down The Lord Commander like he knew him. There’s a plot twist for you.

      • paola says:

        @mimif and Rae

You guys I’m here!! Sorry for not showing up sooner but time zones are a bitch.
        anyway:
This episode was so good because the Sand worms weren’t in it!

Finally someone is knocking some sense into Danaerys, after all this time. She may have found the best advisor ever in Tyrion.
But why the Martells were not mentioned when Tyrion was doing his who’s who of people who won’t back Dany?
I though it was weird especially given their past with the Targaryens.

Sansa better keep that piece of information about her brothers to herself and never tell Little Finger.
I think I know why Ramsay only needs 20 men to attack Stannis: the Night’s Watch used all the budget fot this season!

Cersei drinking water from the floor made my day. Karma is slowing getting restored and even if I’ll never feel sorry for her I wish Lana Headay will keep having her moments to shine for a while longer.

My god i LOATHE Olly. That kid is the best since Joffrey at making you want to sock a teenager right in the f*cking mouth. I thought he was going to poison Sam and he probably kill Jon Snow in the end.

The scene where Tormund took Rattleshirt’s stick from him and beat him to death with his own stick it’s one change for the show that I approve of.

I felt like the dude in the uniform Jon killed with his sword was Benjen. They share the same haircut but maybe i’m wrong because he died without emphasis and no fuss.
        The children army: HOLY F*CK!!!
        Seriously.

The staring contest between the Night’s king and Jon was very dramatic. I thought the NK was going to freeze the water.
Jon’s face said it all: #we’rescrewed

Thw WW are necromancers. I wonder if they utilize the undead for more than just armies. Either way, I suspect that their nature requires them to essentially use humans in the same way a farmer uses their cattle or a Lord uses their smallfolk.

And I thought the sound effect when the Night’s King awoke all the deceased and they opened their blue eyes was the same sound effect as when Bran takes control of an animal (or Hodor).

So…… Kill the Night’s King and the Wights will all die?

      • mimif says:

Oh, excellent point about the Martells. Lmao at the Sand Worms & blowing the budget on ep 8.
Yes the sound!! First that horrible fog/mist when they approach but that eerie as f-ck sound when he raised them. (As an aside, how exhausting would it be to control that many dead people? Dude has some serious powers.) Anyway, back to the fog/mist…the Red Bitch said she say a great battle and then ash in her vision, but maybe she’s seeing the creepy undead fog/mist??

      • paola says:

Maybe she thinks it’s ash but it’s snow? I don’t believe in her visions. They’re not reliable.

    • phlyfiremama says:

In the book, there are actually still several thousand Valyrion steal blades scattered around Westeros but the problem is getting them from their owners to the Wall~no one wants to give them up since they are so special. Sam was actually the one who made the Valyrian steel working aganst the white walkers discovery but it was much better for dramatic effect to show the Jon fight scene discovering this.
      Hodor!!!!
      Valor Morghulis.

      • mimif says:

Yeah that’s what I thought too, that there was quite a few Valyrian weapons floating around.
        HODOR!
        Valar dohaeris.

    • Size Does Matter says:

Maybe Sam and Gilly are sent to Dragonstone to fetch back more dragonglass?

      • mimif says:

        Wasn’t Hardhome volcanic too?

      • Size Does Matter says:

That’s a theory, but I don’t know if it is more than a theory. Something about the Doom also wiping Hardhome out. If that happened (Doom took out Valyeria and Hardhome), that could explain or be related to the whole idea that the WWs being so aggressive is tied to the revived dragon magic, because those two “centers of magic” are tied to each other?

Here’s my problem with the WW/dragon magic theory. NK is a Stark. NK sign truce with Starks (we will stay north of the Wall and live in peace if there are no dragons?). But how do Starks control if there are dragons? Not fair to Starks to base their part of truce on something they can’t control. And the WW from the intro to the very first book pre-dated the revived dragon magic (Dany had not even been given the eggs yet). So they were out there, killing Night’s Watch before the dragons came back.

  11. Linn says:

I still need to sort out my thoughts and feelings about the episode but until then “Go uncle Kevin”

    Also: Hodor!!!

  12. Damn says:

So no rape or threats of rape? But at least there must have been some boobs and vaginas?

  13. Ennie says:

Last Satturday we watches Mad Max and it was a stress fest (good movie, great action scenes). Then I watched Hardhome and just loved it, loved it, loved it!
Poor wilding mom, I believe the thin boy was her son?
Westeros has no idea what is coming upon them. They need magic ASAP, and dragons , and giants, and annoying Melisandre.
And I forgot, I tried to read GoT IMDB forums and they kept crashing!

  14. Nikki says:

I think Tormund is hot, so glad Kaiser liked him this week! My favorite scene was Tyrion and Dany, because I just loved their dialogue, and Tyrion AND Peter Dinklage are my faves. If somehow Margaery’s grandma had walked in, while a dragon soared overhead, my head would have exploded! Am I the only one who wonders what kind of putz Tomen is? Even if he’s a kid, why can’t he get some soldiers for a sneak attack? Instead, he’s refusing his porridge? I thought it was funny that since Cersei is imprisoned, giving even a moment’s shot of Margaery isn’t a priority. Well, at least now we have an idea of why Margaery looked so awful: confess! Whack! And I like that Sansa confronted Reek, and found out her little brothers are alive; and she learned last week that her half brother is Lord Commander, so I’m sure knowing she’s not completely alone in the world can give her hope. I really like Sansa, and think the actress does a good job. I know you’ll hate me, but I just go along with the Whitewalkers scenes, because science fiction isn’t as much my thing. But it was pretty intense, and seeing that great woman warrior get chomped on by what I assume was her former sisters and family, THAT was pretty nightmarish! Wish the giant could have done more damage; didn’t seem like waving a torch killed too many of them. Looking forward to reading EVERY ONE of your comments, because I really love GOT!!

    • Original T.C. says:

Does Sansa actually acknowledge Jon as related to her? She has always been snoby and distant to him. She treated him like her mom Catlyn did which is to see him as a worthless matgot. She thinks bastards are just not real people that’s why she had no problem smacking down Ramsey verbally in episode 7.

      • Rachel says:

Yes, Sansa always followed Catelyn’s lead on that one. However, her situation has changed drastically, and I think she’d grab whatever feeble link she could to her family at this point. Plus, (as much as I have wished otherwise) Sansa’s not much for saving herself. She’s always looking for someone else to save her. And if her bastard half brother is the Lord Commander of the Night’s Watch, she has to assume he’s a pretty good warrior, and this might make her hope in her little girl’s heart that he will come and save her, even though logically, she knows he can’t involve himself.

      • kcarp says:

        @Rachel

you are right she is always looking for someone else to save her. She needs to start taking some responsibility for herself.

I do kind of hope one the wolves will show up and kill Ramsay, I like the wolves.

      • mimif says:

I always say this, but I don’t understand what you guys expect Sansa to do. She was raised believing in fairy tales, she’s had absolutely no formal training in dealing with any of this sh-t (unlike Arya who from the get go wanted to fight). She lost her family, has been sold down the river a multitude of times, and is now Little Finger’s pawn (altho I do think he has better aspirations for her). I mean, what is she supposed to do? She can’t run, she can’t kill anyone, so exactly how is she supposed to take responsibility for herself?

      • Lilacflowers says:

Sansa lost her dire wolf Lady and without her, she is lost. The Stark kids all have the same skills and temperament as their wolves. Lady was quiet, meek, and pretty, like Sansa, and Sansa has no wolf to protect or guide her.

Arts may be separated from Nymeria but they are both assassins

      • mayamae says:

I always feel protective of Sansa. People expect her to be Arya, and Arya would never have survived in KL. Sansa did what she had to do. I cheered for Sansa when she secretly picked up that weapon behind Ramsay’s back. Remember, that’s when she thought help was coming, so it was completely proactive. She’s developing autonomy.

      • M.A.F. says:

What Lilacflowers said about the dire wolves. The kids can’t be separated from their wolf and when they are, something happens to them.

    • mimif says:

I’m actually staying at a hotel with Tormund right now. He looks fabulous in a blue suit! There’s also this:

      https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Bn4gkwYc5g0

Love to see him make it all the way to the end, but don’t tell GRRM that.

    • Isabelle says:

Tormund is my GOT crush. Crush has got even worse since he decided to put his people before his grievance against the crows. He really just wants to get them to the other side. The Wildings are my favorite group. They couldn’t care less about the throne, have little hierarchy, not power hungry, consider women as their equals & really are wild. Have their own ethics & community codes, think they’re fascinating actually….and they do it for each other & family.

  15. Talie says:

Sansa is collecting a lot of valuable info! At least she now has a renewed sense of wanting to live, to see the rest of her wolf pack. Ramsay wouldn’t want to tell her that for fear that it would make her stronger and guess what, it probably will. I would’ve given up on trying to get to Theon, good thing she didn’t.

Dany and Tyrion are everything! I so hope Varys makes it and they have the baddest small council in the 7 Kingdoms. Although, as time goes on, I think it’s less likely that Dany will will take the throne.

  16. booboobird says:

i’m raining on everyone’s parade. just found the end too busy and way way fast paced. still can’t figure out who the hell was where and what happened. ad as much as I (quote) ‘ fu*king hat thenns’ it was still sad when he got pierced by the white walker and turned into a frozen ass zombie. and why the boss white walkers were even engaging in the battle?! there’s bazillion dead ones to do that for them. also I think the totally were keeping an eye on wildlings because why would they suddenly come when massive numbers are leaving.
Sansa.. Yes…GOOD!! oh she hopefully will be deliciously fu*ked up by the time it’s her turn for sweet sweet revenge.
Dany was soo easy with Tyrion. all like ok, be my advisor. mkay..
Feeling sorry for Cersei as well. just proves how fast I forget the bad shit she done
in few words.. everyone’s screwed. cold ass zombies coming from north and jorah will soon start spreading hard ass zombies from other end. when the meet in the middle..fun ensues

    • Olenna says:

Yes, the last scene was really fast paced. Kaiser’s right–everything that happened before with Sansa, Arya, Cersei, Tyrion, etc. was overshadowed by the intensity. I was so exhausted watching it, I forgot to tune in to Penny Dreadful. But, yeah, I think you’re correct in assuming the WWs had been watching, likely before the Night’s Watch arrived. That one WW probably came in the meeting hall just to be a badazz and take out any remaining men of the Watch. And, not to rain your parade, but I have no sympathy for Cersei. She can grovel on the floor for spilled water all day and I couldn’t forget the sh*t she’s done.

      • booboobird says:

Olenna, oh Cersei deserves everything that’s coming her way. I just felt sorry for her being whacked with the spoon and all that. even though at the same time she was still a raging bitch. and why would she trust the whacko scientist. why would she trust anyone for that matter ?!

    • Rachel says:

I got the impression that the white walkers has also been watching the camp. I also think they knew about the dragon glass and that’s why the one white walker headed to the meeting hall. I think the wights (zombies) are good for mindless carnage, but not for a specific mission, such as “retrieve the dragon glass.”

As for Cersei, I despise her and think she needs a little comeuppance, but I hate to see anyone treated that way. I wonder how the incredibly devout high septon justifies treating someone in that way? However, she’s still an idiot. There’s a leak in the ceiling of her cell for heaven’s sake. All she has to do is sit under it and let the water collect in her mouth!

      • Olenna says:

@ Rachel, LOL! I saw that leak and was thinking why doesn’t she just lay under it! WW retrieving the dragon glass makes sense, too.

      • mimif says:

Yeah they were totally casing the joint, and struck at the perfect time. Dude’s face when Jon turned the WW into a snow cone was awesome. He’s like yeah you got dragon forged sword but LOOK, I haz 6389373636 zombies boy.

      • WinterLady says:

I’m guessing, by the display of zombie army power, that the WW have very powerful magic. No telling how much they do or don’t know about the Wildings, NW and beyond. It’s pretty obvious to me that the only way to stop the zombie invasion is to take out the main WWs. I’ve always wanted to know more about the WWs motivations behind the hostile takeover.

As for Cersei…my hatred for her carries over from the books, where we get an insight into her thought process. She totally lacks any empathy, is extremely arrogant and has delusions of grandeur. Not one shred of sympathy for her, no matter how good Lena is or how the show tries to soften her.

      • mimif says:

@WinterLady, I’m totally interested in the WW’s too. I said this before, but I think their appearance (and their magic) is directly related to the dragons (and the magic that birthed them).

      • mayamae says:

I greatly dislike Cersei, but I don’t want her dead. I do feel moments of pity for her, and I’m temporarily extra sympathetic because the actress is pregnant. She needs to be humbled, but I don’t want her broken.

  17. Olenna says:

Hardhome. Valyrian Steel. Just wow! The Night’s King raising an new army. Jon Snow riding the slow boat from hell; the look on his face when he realized they were all fu*ked. Not to mention, I was out of my seat and yelling at the screen during the fight with the White Walker. Absolutely the best 20 minutes of TV that I’ve seen in a long time.

    • Abbott says:

I was running in place in front of my tv. It was amazing.

      • Olenna says:

LOL! I imagine you beat Tormund to the boat! It was already a Zombie Apocalypse but he was still fighting, and I’m yelling get the hell out of there. I had to watch the last 5 minutes again to make sure he was in the boat, because I was still in shock from the entire scene!

      • mimif says:

I spilled my large goblet of wine on the floor. Twice. And I didn’t even have time to mop it up because ZOMBIES.

    • Lilacflowers says:

      HODOR!!!!

    • Original T.C. says:

I tewarched the last 20 minutes twice now. Movie screen worthy. I was so worried for Jon, Karsi, Tommen and the Free Folk. So much suspense, action and horror. I’d be re watching still if I didn’t have to go to work.

    • Pamela says:

Awwww…the look on Jon’s face when all the dead rose. So sad. Here he was hoping to get ALL the Wildlings and not even being sure if that would be enough. And now not only did he not get them all–but the remainder are WWs. Ahhhhh.

  18. Cora says:

I love Cersei and I’m not ashamed.

    • mimif says:

She’s an amazing actress and an interesting character for sure. I love watching Lena Headey interviews; she’s kinda punk rock and when she tries to explain Cersei’s motivations, she usually ends with something like “she’s complicated. Okay, whatever she’s a raging c-nt”.

  19. Abbott says:

Question for the CDC-CB: How contagious is greyscale? Why doesn’t everyone in Mereen have it? Damnit, Jorah!

    • Lilacflowers says:

It is highly contagious but I think it must be spread through contact. Everyone in Meereen doesn’t have it because in the books, everyone in Meereen and Pentos and a few other places is being wiped out by the Bloody Flux, also called The Pale Rider, which apparently spreads just by being in the same city as other humans.

    • Ennie says:

      similar to cholera, maybe?

    • Lucrezia says:

There seems to be 2, or maybe 3 different versions. Grey scale, grey plague (more virulent form – nearly wiped out Oldtown a couple of generations back) and whatever the Stone Men have.

Tyrion thinks the Stone Men just have [advanced] grey scale. But I don’t think we can rule out grey plague … GRRM definitely seems to be foreshadowing an outbreak. If so, Shireen, Patchface and Jon/Jorah would be likely suspects for patient zero. Also, local legend says the fog in the Sorrows is cursed (from the time of the Valyrian Doom), so we could be talking about a 3rd version of the disease: grey-curse?

  20. Diana B says:

That was absolutely terrifying! ILOVED IT! Danny and Tyrion give me life. Thank goodness they finally met. I felt so sorry for Jorah, that poor bastard can’t catch a break. Cersei getting whacked with that spoon was everything. I hope she doesn’t get her power position back or else those ladies are gonna regret ever being born.

Still don’t like Sansa. Theon is really losing it isn’t he? He doesn’t even know if he’s Theon or Reek and kept on alternating between the two.

Dude, those zombies were sick! And I can’t believe they just lost all that dragon glass in such a dumb way. That fight was absolutely awesome and I thought for sure something was gonna happen to dear Jon and then bam! WW gets desintegrated with a flick of a sword, new little helpful tidbit. Can’t wait for the finale!!!

    • mimif says:

I thought it was interesting that Theon ratted Sansa out because he was trying to help her from getting (even more) harmed. So yeah, there’s still some internal struggle there, which is a good sign because I totally thought he was a lost cause.

      • Lilacflowers says:

I keep waiting for Theon to shout “gollum” and start nattering on about his precious

      • mimif says:

Lol Lilac, he’s such a mess. I refuse to feel sorry for him tho.

      • Diana B says:

Yep, Zero simpathy for bad ol’ Theon. He can rot for all I care.

      • mayamae says:

@mimif, I was glad that they revealed that was the reason. In fact, last week I posted somewhere what he said last night. In Theon’s mind, escape is impossible. He “knew” Sansa would be caught, and he definitely knew that she would be tortured in punishment. In his tormented way, he was protecting her. That gives me huge hope that he’s salvageable. And if he’s doomed to die, I want him to die helping Sansa, and preferably after killing Ramsay. Ramsay being killed by his own creation is a pretty cool thought.

  21. Cate says:

I really want Sansa to find out that Arya is alive, I guess she needs to hook up with Brienne or Pod for that to go down. I hope we get to see Ramsey get what’s coming to him by the end of the season, I think we have all had enough of his psycho sleaziness. Cersei getting her comeuppance is pretty gratifying I don’t feel sorry for her at all and I am very much looking forward to her upcoming humiliation. What is frustrating is how useless Tommen is. You would think he would at least be making some kind of effort to get his wife out of jail, especially given how much he was digging the sexy times with her at least that would be some motivation. Hopefully Kevan will put a stop to the High Sparrow’s nonsense. I’m curious what is going to happen when Jon returns to the wall, given the deviations from ADWD and his status. One thing that bugged me about Tyrion and Dany, if I was Tyrion the first thing I would have said was, can I see your dragons?

    • mia girl says:

Yeah maybe Uncle Kevin will put a stop to the High Sparrow – but not before Cersei takes a walk.

I wonder if the jail cell comment “there are ways” also was eluding to a reanimated Mountain playing a part.

      • Rachel says:

I thought he was talking about dosing her with some kind of poison that would make her seem dead, but then he’d fix her right up after they had her out of the cell. Then she’d use the might of the King’s Guard to smash the little sparrows to bits. But then she went the whole confession route, and he started mentioning FrankenMountain, so I guess I was way off base. Although, my idea is better…

      • mia girl says:

Did he actually mention FrankenMountain? I didn’t catch that. Is that where I got this idea?

      • mimif says:

He said something like “the work is coming along”. Trial by combat with Le FrankenMountain!

    • Jen43 says:

Tommen has done nothing because he has nobody leading him.. Previously, he did whatever Cersei or Margary wanted. With them both locked up, he is powerless. As usual, Cersei didn’t think ahead and actually teach him anything. She just wanted him to follow her lead.

      • Lucrezia says:

I think Tommen suffers a bit from the book-to–TV age-shift. In the books, he’s 7/8. The TV character is supposed to be 12/13, and the actor is 16/17.

Behaviour that’d be completely understandable from a 7 year old looks a bit weak if you’re thinking of him as 12, and rather pathetic if you’re thinking of him as closer to 16.

      • Rachel says:

I agree with Lucrezia. You also must consider the fact that Joffrey was groomed as the heir. Tommen was not. Even though it’s clear Robert never took much interest in any of his children, Joffrey was still determined to win his father’s approval, so he watched and listened to Robert and followed his lead. Robert’s answer to every problem was brute force. That’s why Joffrey always wanted to kill anyone who got in his way – he was following his father’s example. Except while Robert’s brute force was tempered by the counsel of others, Joffrey was a spoiled sadistic monster.

I’m getting away from my point… which is, Tommen never even had the benefit of observing what it means to be king, so he has no idea how to do it without someone telling him.

  22. Lesley says:

It was an epic episode ! I was actually yelling at Jon to run LOL 😉 and those white walker kids were just……. creepy. When the credits finally started rolling, I started to breathe again.

    HODOR !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  23. Hazel says:

Apparently, metrosexuals don’t exist north of the wall with every wildling men commenting on Jon Snow’s prettiness.

Seriously, epic episode was epic. Still buzzing 1 hour after watching the episode and wanting to stock on dragon glass and valyrian steel just in case.

P.S. Dany’s “break the wheel” speech is so eyerolly.

    • mimif says:

You mean buh-rrrake the wheel. Actually last night was the first time Dany didn’t annoy me. She’s still an immature idealistic brat but DRAGONS.

      • Diana B says:

Yep. DRAGONS damn it! Danny actually managed to get me excited againg. Too bad Sir Jorah is still on her bad side, his puppy-eyed look was heartbreaking.

    • mayamae says:

I actually liked her speech. I’ve been waiting all season for it, and was delighted that her partner in the scene turned out to be Tyrion. I always root for Dany, but her storyline has been some of the most boring for the last two seasons (other than interacting with her dragons).

      • jammypants says:

sadly the books didn’t fare much better. They don’t have food material for her story.

  24. Becks says:

    Last night’s episode was everything!
I was on the edge of my seat the last 20 min. I’ve read the books, and I don’t mind that HBO is going in a different direction with some storylines. I like the element of suspense.

All I have to say is that
    Tormund is awesome!
    More Wun Wun please.
The White Walkers (Others) are freaking scary.
The Valyrian steel shortage worries me.
    Jon Snow knows everything!
    Winter is finally here❄

  25. Chrid says:

I think White Walkers could swim just fine. Or at least freeze the water solid and walk across it. Their minions could also pull some Pirates of the Caribbean stunt and “take a walk!”.
I thought about that scene, and I think it was more of a “You are so insignificant that I want you to watch what I do to your dead, then tell everyone, and I will kill you soon.” sort of gesture. The Walkers are not stupid. I’m sure they realize that fear is one of their greatest assets.

    • booboobird says:

yah, I thought he was going to freeze the water or something of that sort. and absolutely agree with the last scene that it was all about ‘watch how helpless and weak you really are and we are coming for you. no need to be even prepared…’
I understand also the idea of women and children and elders first but the problem always is that the weak ones are saved and the warriors are completely wiped out. the WW come for the saved ones and in the end everyone is just statistics.

    • mimif says:

ITA, Chrid. Also, they had to let the squad go because of what’s gonna happen next when they arrive back at the Wall. Get your hankies ready!

      • booboobird says:

mimif, at this point it looks bleak. Im thinking Jon won’t be able to get thru the gate since Alistair is probably cooking up some mutiny what with old maester gone and Sam being pretty useless and most of them not overly affectionate towards the wildlings to begin with.
how come WW havent turned giants into either one of them or even wights. The sheer power and mindless damage they could do..

      • mimif says:

Good question about the giants, or those big ass mammoth things too. I loved how cranky that giant was!

    • Isabelle says:

They would turn the water to ice. Probably why they can’t swim.

  26. shizwhat says:

After reading the Vanity Fair article this is what I have to say about the fate of Jon Snow. He’s not been murdered, he’s not dead, he won’t be resurrected by the Night’s King and join the army of the dead. He’s just like Daenerys. She didn’t die despite being in the fire that bore her dragons. He won’t die by joining the icy cold army. They are twins, brother and sister. Fire and Ice.

    • Jen43 says:

I didn’t read the books, but I believe Jon and Dani will make it to the end

    • Becks says:

Shizwhat, I agree. Jon is the embodiment of fire and ice. I think last night’s episode was a major clue as to who his parents are. He took down that white walker with a sword that represents his fire blood. ( valyrian steel is made with dragon’s fire).
      R+L=J

      • mimif says:

A song of ice and fire. Jon is both, Dany is just crazy ass fire. Do you not see the crazy in her?? I think Jonny will make it in the end, Dany not so much.

      • Isabelle says:

He took him out with the WW because Valerian steel probably is effective against WW another form of dragon glass. It wasn’t Jon it was the sword….but he is a combination of fire & ice. That WW was very interested in Jon, and why the heck did they show up so perfectly to meet Jon? There is some connection no doubt.

    • jc126 says:

If anything happens to Jon Snow, I really will not be that interested in this show anymore. And I don’t want him resurrected or warged or (as some speculate) changed into an evil character with the White Walkers, I want him as-is.
UNBELIEVABLE episode – I watched that battle 4 times last night.

    • phlyfiremama says:

If you subscribe to R+L=J theory (and I DO!!), Dany is Jon’s Aunt not his Sister~She was R’s Sister, not his Daughter. If I had to pick I would say Dany=fire, Jon=ice. Jon could also be both~Stark (Northmen) and Targaryen, both ice and fire. Has anyone noticed anything icy aboutDany, other than when she looks at Jorah?!
      Hodor!!!

    • Isabelle says:

Sorry but think Jon will die & by the end of this season. Ollie is a very vengeful person that they keep giving hints at “wants to do the right thing everyone will hate”. Same words of “Jon always comes back,” he has said this multiple times in the series. The leaders already hate Jon, add on Olly, think Jon will be stabbed by his own men/Olly, Julius Ceasar style.

  27. the other Kate says:

Haven’t seen last episode yet, but I’m so happy, that Kristofer Hivju is still on GoT 🙂 Tormund is one of my favorites – big, ginger viking <3

  28. Bridget says:

I’m out today good folks of House Celebitchus. I haven’t watched yet, but I’m glad that it looks like the episode is good!

    • mimif says:

Um, hello? This is unacceptable behavior on your part. Report back ASAP even if it’s 9pm. That’s an order.

    • phlyfiremama says:

House Celebitchus indeed!! Now we need a great crest/coat of arms!!

      • Lilacflowers says:

Our sigil features a fake baby wearing beige booty shorts while eating a box of Cheeze-its, riding on a comet.

      • Betti says:

LOL – if anyone is going to bring down the White walkers it’s us ladies of House Celebitchus with a good ole bitch slap.

Mind you the Night’s King is rather tall and does strange things to me *goes off to have a hot shower to get rid of these thoughts*

      • mimif says:

Bahahaha Bridget something something about an icy Popsicle.

    • Size Does Matter says:

You know it was epic when we have out-commented Caitlyn (thank G-d it wasn’t Kaitlyn or Catelyn) Jenner and South West.

      • Bridget says:

And that’s the very reason why I’m trying to keep myself spoiled free! It’s funny, because I’m actually sadder than I thought I would be to have new material debut through the TV show. Thanks a lot, GRRM.

      • mimif says:

Spoiled free what? Did you watch yet did you watch?!

  29. FingerBinger says:

It was the Walking dead meets Game of Thrones. That was a great episode.

  30. lizzie says:

Tormund gives me emotions in my pants…

  31. M.A.F. says:

Birgitte Hjort Sørensen- Boom! I kept staring at her, trying to place why I knew her face. Thank You Kaiser. She did Coriolanus with Hiddleston. I liked her character here, I was a little bummed when she kicked the bucket…you know, before she came back.

The last time I talked back to my TV was season 1, episode 9. The whole sequence of Hardhome I was talking to the TV. Great episode. Is that even in the books?

    • Lilacflowers says:

She’s in Pitch Perfect 2 as well. I want to see her in more things. I wish she had a longer arc in GOT; her character was awesome

  32. Cali says:

Can I just say the giants FREAK me out SO much?!! I get goosebumps and totally stressed out when they’re on the screen.

This season has been so blah for me and has had far too little of Brienne. Please let her be her badass self and save the day. I don’t want Sansa to be a total damsel in distress but I need Brienne around. She needs to whoop Ramsey’s ass.

I’m so bored with Dany. Tyrion is needed to shake things up for her. Tyrion and Maergery’s grandmother are the only two I truly hope don’t get killed off – the rest I’m pretty “meh” about, sadly.

  33. Taco says:

“last nights episode had too much stuff”… “ARYA DO MORE STUFF”

    Check yourself!

  34. Betti says:

OK -am based in the UK and don’t have Sky TV.

Is there anywhere online I can watch it? have tried HBO using HOLA but no luck 🙁

    • twink says:

tubeplus, just google it. You need adblock to use it though, there’s annoying ads.

    • Neonscream says:

In Australia the only truly legit way to get GoT since season 3 (when it was available on Oz iTunes) has been to sign up to a two year contract with Murdoch’s unbelievably shite Foxtel. The total cost for me would be roughly $3000 and as I rent so have no long term guarantee of being in this house I may have to forfeit that cash. GoT is great TV, I’d be more than happy to pay twice or three times the usual iTunes cost for each episode but a few thousand dollars, nope. There are ways to get around geo blocking thankfully (Google is your friend) so I can pay for the show directly without having to pay thousands for content that is 99.9% absolute crap I’d never watch.

  35. phlyfiremama says:

Has anyone else given their pets GOT names? My Great Pyrennes/Anatolian Shepherd mix is named Traveller Farstrider, and my Rottie mix is named Samson Bonerattler~

    • mayamae says:

Yes. I adopted a kitten a month ago, and her name is Arya. She’s more than lived up to the name. I brought her into my bedroom, and she chased my twelve year old male right out from under my bed. He hid in the closet for two days.

  36. mayamae says:

Kit Harrington and Jon Snow have been mocked tirelessly for years. I’m enjoying watching his character become kickass, and one of the more compelling characters. I’ve always felt protective of him. Everyone thinks he’s similar to Arya, but he reminds me more of Sansa.

    • Sunsetsnow says:

He’s one of my favorites and has really grown into the role.

    • chaser says:

I agree. You could tell early that there were big things ahead for Jon Snow so I just couldn’t understand the mocking.

    • Size Does Matter says:

I have a major ladyboner for Jon Snow now. If I can just overlook the fact that he might actually fit in my purse.

      • Bea says:

Looool your name makes your comment 38276478 times better

      • mimif says:

        It’s 3:39am and I’m laughing out loud Size. 😂😂

      • Size Does Matter says:

Mims, everything is funnier at 3:39 a.m. Unless you’re sobbing, which is also likely to happen at 3:39 a.m. Have you been reading Grantland’s GoT coverage? It’s pretty good. Did you read the World of Ice and Fire? I have not. Wondering if it is worth the investment. Or the Dunk and Egg books?

      • mimif says:

Negative to all, I’m going to have to check out this Grantland. I’m interested in reading the other books but not right now because I’m pretending I’m just a show person, if that makes sense. I’m saving all my love for youuu…erm the show.
I think GlimmerBunny said she was reading the World of Ice and Fire and that it was interesting.

    • jammypants says:

me too! when all my friends put him down whether on the show or books, I tell them to piss off. I have such a huge soft spot for Jon in the books and on the screen.

  37. paola says:

I had a new favorite character last night.. Karsi.
She is so cool and brave! So caring. Fearless. So Cool! Ygritte who?!
    And 15 minutes later: oh.

Her face expression was heart breaking. As a mother she just couldn’t hack up the little ones, even if they were snow zombies

Tyrion: “She was eventually sold off to some warlord.” YOU MEAN KHAL DROGO HOT DUDE OF ALL THE LAND, SEA AND GALAXIES.

And Jon.. I know you don’t speak much and you’re not used to articulate your thoughts but how about you give them some CONTEXT before you say you put an arrow through their leader’s heart!
Geeesh that was totally uncalled for.

When Longclaw worked, Jon and the White Walker were both like, “WHAAA?”

    • mimif says:

That scene with Jon and the Dead Lieutenant was amazing, the look on dead dude’s face was everything. My friend told me it took a month to film the Hardhome scene (that’s before they added the CG), can you imagine? I should have been there to keep Tormund warm. And I agree with whoever posted upthread that Karsi was probably Tormund’s “wife”. Sadness, she was awesome.
Tyrion feeding Dany her ego to her on a plate was great too.

      • paola says:

I honestly think Kit killed it this episode. He’s so underrated.
His character is so very introverse and introspective and h’e just portraying the real jon snow.
His face in the ned.. his eyes full of worry and fear..
I just want to hug him and then give the White Walkers some hair conditioner. And warm them up with a hair dryer. Of course they’re so grumpy. No one like the cold so much. Not even me.

      • mimif says:

Bahahaha you’re killing me. Paolanqar’s Mobile Hair Service! What about Wun Wun? You’d need scaffolding to get to his ginormous noggin. You could give him corn rows and then swing off of them. Okay I obviously should not be awake right now.
And YASSS Kit is killing it lately. He could probably use a good shampoo too.

    • phlyfiremama says:

I’ve been digging Jon Snow all along! Such a cute good little hunk~

  38. Flower says:

Spoiler- Dragons can kill ice zombies.
