FKA Twigs: Twihards are ‘horrible, but ultimately, I’m in an amazing relationship’

twigs1

FKA Twigs covers the new issue of Complex. You can read her full interview here – I always forget, until those rare occasions when I go on Complex’s site, how annoying that site is. What could have been a pretty straight-forward cover interview is stretched out with endless scrolling past weird moving images of Twigs and more scrolling of dead space and on and on. That being said, this was one of the better interviews I’ve read with Twigs, even if the quotes seem kind of lukewarm. At times she comes across as sort of stuck up her own ass, not really pretentious but more of, like, the kind of fart-sniffing artist that can’t see the forest for the trees. Some highlights:

She went to Croydon College to study philosophy and sociology: “I was banned from two classes for asking too many questions.”

She was raised on the classics: “I went in the opposite direction. I liked punk music. I gave up ballet. I rejected the training I’d had.”

The racism she’s gotten from online trolls: “I wouldn’t say I’m completely numb to it now, but there’s definitely a numbness there.”

Dealing with inane press questions: “If this is what being an artist is, I’m just not really sure this is for me. This”—the press cycle— “is horrific. I could be doing dance class right now.”

On T-Pain telling the world that she & Sparkles are engaged: “I’d rather not talk about it,” she responds, when I ask about the news being broken in this context. Her response isn’t angry, or impatient, but genuinely sad. Has she confronted the situation? “Umm,” she says before looking away, then staring back at me. “It’s fine, I’m a pretty chill person, do you know what I mean?” she continues, before finishing, “If you can’t touch it, it’s not real.”

The Twihards trolling her online: “It is pretty horrible. But ultimately, I’m in an amazing relationship. So it doesn’t matter.”

Voguing is really important: “Voguing has helped me grow into the best young lady that I can be at this time. Through these boys”—the dancers—“I’ve learned to embrace parts of my femininity that I wasn’t in touch with before.”

Everything worked out: “I haven’t had an easy life at all, but everything seems to be working out. I’m so grateful for that, because at times, especially when I was a teenager, I just couldn’t see how things could ever get better, or how I’d ever be able to do this. I don’t know what I thought I’d be doing. I’d always worked hard at music and at dancing, but I never thought I’d get the opportunity to be doing this, and have the belief of people to give me a budget to make a video. These things are incredible.”

[From Complex]

In this interview, she also says that she adopted a sort of alter ego (but not really) called “Melissa.” She tries to make it sound like she did not go all Sasha Fierce, like she just had Melissa to separate herself as an artist and the real Twigs. What else? Oh, Robert Pattinson makes a brief appearance during the LA leg of this interview. The journalist goes to their house and Rob opens the door. So… yeah, it’s happening. It’s for real. Sorry, Twihards.

Are twihards really still a thing?

    • Abbott says:

Oh yes. They’re burrowed deep in the Earth’s core, but they exist and they will tear apart detractors like the mosh pit at a One Direction concert.

    • MonicaQ says:

One of the ladies I work with is SURE that Rob and Kristen has a baby somewhere. I didn’t listen to her whole line of reasoning but wow.

      • Abbott says:

There’s a whole blog dedicated to that very theory. They are secretly married, have one child and another on the way.

      • mimif says:

Bahaha! Abot you’re killing me, I need to know why you know this immediately. It’s like GoT theories but with more sparkles.

      • Shambles says:

I am actually Rob and Kristin’s secret love child. They keep me locked in a small room and feed me hot pockets through a mail slot in the door.

      • Abbott says:

My brain retains any information that is smutty and/or insane. It helps nourish the dark orb in my chest that keeps me alive.

      • Mia4S says:

That’s actually really sad. Not to mention you said she’s a “woman” not “14 year old girl”.

It’s one thing to enjoy fantasy when you know it’s fantasy. It’s healthy even. But to actually believe it? To have to make up evidence and embarrass yourself to support the fantasy because it not being true would be that awful? How disappointing and pathetic must your real life be to bring you to that point? It’s an awful thought.

      • MonicaQ says:

        @Abbot http://www.bustle.com/articles/81411-is-robert-pattinson-married-to-kristen-stewart-why-conspiracy-theorists-think-he-is-and-what

        HOLY. CRAP. PEOPLE. ARE. WEIRD.

I mean, yeah ok, I spent my 12 year old days hoping Captain Picard and Dr. Crusher would just finally hook up already but I didn’t have a fan theory wth?!

      • Abbott says:

@Monica, isn’t that next-level crazy or do we need to step up our fangirling game?

      • Carmen says:

Considering how emotionally invested the Twihards got in the books, it’s not surprising. Edward and Bella are the most romantic couple who ever lived. And when the first movie came out, lo and behold, there they were, live on screen. The Twihards wanted their dream to come alive so badly that in their minds fantasy merged into reality. Pattinson literally became Edward and KStew became Bella. In the movies they got married and had a baby girl so of course in real life they are married and have a daughter and another one on the way. Life mirrors art. Or something like that. They literally live for their fantasy and God help anyone who threatens it. Thus the hate they have for Twigs, and for them, her being black merely adds insult to injury.

      • MonicaQ says:

@Mia4S This is the same woman–she’s 5 years younger than me at 25–that had to take a half day because One Direction broke up. Or one of the members left, I don’t know–are they broken up? She was legit APPALLED that I had never heard a One Direction song and couldn’t tell them apart. I told her I had New Kids on the Block, Boyz II Men, NSYNC, Backstreet Boys, 98 Degrees, 5ive, and Pretty Ricky. I can’t keep track of anymore boy bands.

      • Luca76 says:

@ Carmen I think you hit the nail on the head.

Also the most obsessive Twihards have always been the older ones. The teens moved on after a few years but for whatever reason Twilight struck a chord with a lot of middle aged and up women who never will grow out if their obsession.

      • Norman Bates' Mother says:

@MonicaQ – wow, just wow. It’s good to embrace your inner child but that woman seems unhinged. I’m a year older than her and I don’t remember any of my friends behaving like that when we were actual teenagers and we were obsessed with 10 Things I Hate About You and wanted Heath Ledger and Julia Styles together or when Spice Girls or Backstreet Boys broke up/took a break. I’m surprised she is able to keep her job.

      • Carmen says:

@Luca: Do you know what some of those older Twihards wore to the premiere of Breaking Dawn? Wedding dresses. Specially purchased for the occasion. I’m not making that up.

    • LB says:

Yes. And a lot of them are really mean. They call FKA “it” and believe this is all PR. So terrible.

      • Bishg says:

I am tempted to laugh my ass off but this is very disturbing.
Being attached to fictional characters is one thing, but this is pure madness.
I think these people have lost touch with reality, the kind of attitude that can lead to severe mental illness and dangerous behaviour.
In a “better” case scenario, you lose the ability to interact with humans around you cause you’re so fixated on your idols that everything else disappears.
Also, it’s ironic how Twihards have consistently decided to ignore through the years the fact that Robsten was indeed a PR-invention (we might have been naive at the time, but we’ve seen so many PR-set relationships since then that we are now able to see the signs in retrospective), whereas a genuine, spontaneous relationship between two people who go to great lenghts to avoid the spotlight and seem happy to be spending time together is fantasia to them.

      • ell says:

@Bishg, idk if robsten was PR, however it is weird that there were literally no pics of them together, then kstew got busted with that director so easily, and that both of them have now zero problems being seeing with their new partners. it does seem fishy.

      • Anname says:

They also claim that they are the only ones who can see through the “tabloid bullsh_t” that the rest of us believe. Tabloids like the New York Times, Guardian, Vogue, Elle, even the Wall Street Journal – all tabloids of course. They have written off this Complex article as totally made up.

I am always amused by their insistence that some in the media know the truth, but won’t talk about it, because “a happy marriage doesn’t sell”. Sure – US Weekly and In Touch would NEVER be interested in a story about a Rob and Kristen secret marriage, they would ignore that all together, LOL.

It is so funny on one level, but the tone of their chatter has changed dramatically since twigs entered the picture. Now it’s hateful and ugly and I would be legitimately concerned about it if I were Rob or twigs or their management/security. Most of that group will slink off at some point, but it only takes one angry delusional “fan” to be a real security threat.

      • Lady D says:

Bishg; “you lose the ability to interact with humans around you”
Happens every time I pick up a book.

    • phlyfiremama says:

LOL Katie that’s EXACTLY the first thing I thought as well!!

  2. Jessica says:

“If this is what being an artist is, I’m just not really sure this is for me. This”—the press cycle— “is horrific. I could be doing dance class right now.”

Then don’t do press. You don’t have to do press, with the interviews and magazine shoots, if you don’t want to. You will not be as famous nor make a much money. But if you don’t like doing press and don’t care about fame, then don’t do press and fade away and just do your art for yourself/fun.

    • Babalon says:

Except for that contractual obligation to promote…

      • Damn says:

No one forces her to talk about her dating life but she keeps bringing it up. Why?

      • kdlaf says:

I mean people keep asking her and she’s not even going into much detail about it besides the horrible twihard racism she goes through…

      • I Choose Me says:

Exactly. If you have a contract to produce/sing music then you’re expected to promote yourself and your music. Get the word out there, create buzz so that the people who’ve invested in you can make back their money.

@Damn. She doesn’t keep bringing it up. She keeps getting asked. If you read the article she clearly deflects the interviewer’s question about whether she’s engaged or not.

      • V4Real says:

Uh-oh seems like some of those Twihards have found their way over to C/B.

      • Jessica says:

Then she shouldn’t have signed with major label that has a promotional part of the contract. She signed her contract knowing full well she’d have to do press, so if she didn’t want to then she shouldn’t have signed the contract in the first place. No one forced her to. She could have stayed a free agent doing whatever she wanted – not getting paid, but she wouldn’t have to do press either.

    • BangersandMash says:

thats what i dont get either.

“This is horrific. I could be doing dance class right now.”

Really?? Cause……. from what I’ve seen (out on the street/fashion shows/exclusive events etc)

you sure look like you’re adjusting just fine into this new (fame, money, exposure) life you have, baby girl.

Are we talking about the press cycle??? Oh, ok. ‘Horrific’ complex magazine?? more or less 2 magazine covers a year? A couple of articles here and there?
A million pap photos where you don’t really look so horrified, but ok.

      • Anname says:

She is going to say some dumb things, and make some mistakes as she transitions from underground artist to being more well-known. She jumped into the deep end of the pool this year, and is still figuring it out. Complaining about press and about fame never goes over well.

    • Katija says:

She seems to share her boyfriend’s disdain of being famous.

I never liked that guy’s “woe is me” attitude during all the Twilight hoopla. It’s like, if you hate it so much, then don’t cash the checks.

    • Tiffany :) says:

I think you make a good point. You can “do” art without selling it or making it into a commercialized product. If you decide that you want to sell your thing to the masses, then you have to accept the other parts that go with that choice, like promotion, having financing partners that you are obligated to, etc.

  3. Damn says:

What’s up with these celebs who constantly complain about invasion of their private lives and then go and give interviews talking in details about their romances? Stop talking about it.

    She is Kristen Stewart 2.0

    • Belle Epoch says:

Agree with DAMN. She’s exotic but not too bright. Wish she would close her mouth.

      • Liz says:

I think it’s simply because her lips are full and pronounced.

I’m indifferent to RB and KS but LOVED twigs last album so I wish when she was being interviewed it was more in regards to her music, though I do enjoy hearing her Fangirl about the dancers she’s working with.

    • Becca says:

Where is the detail though? I can’t decide if I like her or not, but to be fair to her she mentions Rob in passing and not even by name.

    • Chica says:

      @Damn and Co.

      She is not KStew 2.0
Stop. She obviously keeps being ASKED about the racist abuse she receives from his fans, and has ALWAYS deflected questions regarding any details on her relationship. Where are the receipts about her talking about her relationship and any detail other than to say she’s happy and he/it is worth it? And when does she even say that much? AFTER being asked.

Did any of you even read the article at all? It’s mostly about her music, her process, her shows and art, and her upcoming EP and the efforts she’s been putting into that.

I think Damn is just not a fan of hers, which is fine, but you’re trying really hard to pin nonsenses on her that doesn’t exist. Making way too much out of nothing at all, and that’s bc you’re not a fan and/or hater. There isn’t a shred of objectivity.

@Bella How is she not too bright? Do tell us what she has said to insult anyone or say something that is illogical or stupid or not articulate? And I’m sure there is some physical ailment you have that is not your fault that maybe ppl wish you would do something about too. Clearly her mouth is too small to accommodate her teeth. And you know what? Good on her to accept her flaws instead of churning out the perfect smile our culture is so obsessed with. She’s learned to like her uneven and imperfect teeth.

@Liz ul;ultimately her articles ARE about her music. It’s these headlines and click bate web and blog posts that only hone in on the topics that take up generally less than a paragraph.

If anything, she’s ignorant about why complaining about press as an artist giving an interview a bad thing that only makes you earn backlash. And you know what? She’s hasn’t even blown up big for an entire year yet, so she’s still worth giving a pass to for it being a learning curve situation. She’ll eventually get there. Contrary to the belief of some obviously biased ppl here, she’s an incredibly intelligent woman. Thos K stans and Robstens are transparent af.

    • jaye says:

When has she gone into detail? She doesn’t just randomly start talking about her relationship and those disgusting internet trolls, she’s ASKED about them. She didn’t go into detail in this interview either. She said she’s in “An amazing relationship”. How is that detailed?

    • EN says:

I like both Kristen and Twigs, is that allowed?
The hounding Krtisten got from twihards, and paps, from blind adoration to absolute hatred was too much, and she was still a very young girl. She handled it well, I think and in the end found her path.
Twigs is an artist, who suddenly found herself a target of twihards, people who are very different from her. And she is learning to handle the hatred and lack of privacy that comes with being someone famous.
I think they are both strong, beautiful and talented women.

  4. Nonny says:

Who is this woman? What does she actually do?……yawn………

  5. Esmom says:

Ooh, I want to like her but she really does sound pretty pretentious here.

On a positive note, I love her freckles.

    • Chica says:

Maybe you should read the article for yourself and not reduce her to just what this post includes. She explains why she’s not into it.

    • ava7 says:

Yeah, the thing about being”banned” from classes for “asking too many questions” part? As an instructor I can tell you no one ever gets “banned” for asking too many questions. They do, however, earn the disdain of their Professor and their peers for the disrespectful and adversarial way in which they “ask questions”. Every year you have a few of these kids who think they’ve got some kind of super keen intelligence or secret wisdom that most other people aren’t privy to, and that they are going to be the ones to enlighten everyone. Yeah. Those kids are annoying as hell, and I can tell that she is one of them.

  6. Enn says:

    I don’t understand her.

  7. PunkyMomma says:

Banned from classes for asking too many questions? 👀

    • BengalCat2000 says:

That was my first thought too. She’s cute and young, and seems inoffensive, so I cut her some Slack, but wtf kind of school does that? Whatever, I don’t know what she does, I love her septum piercing, think she’s beautiful and that’s all I’ve got.

    • Esmom says:

I know, that was obnoxious, implying that she’s so inquisitive/intelligent that the teacher couldn’t handle her.

Every teacher I know, at both the high school and college level, encourages questions. The more the better.

      • Abbott says:

Exactly. Makes me think that she was somehow being disruptive. Banned from two classes? That’s on you, not the school, IMO.

      • Shambles says:

Twigs is just too intelligent and evolved for the plebeian universities. I heard that she missed a bunch of class because she was too busy having lunch with Kanye West.

      • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

Yes, overall, I liked her, but I rolled my eyes at that.

      • Asiyah says:

That depends, Esmom. I used to teach and definitely encouraged questions, but some students were VERY pretentious and decided to make the class all about them and their “deep” questions (most of which weren’t “deep” or thought provoking at all, although they swore otherwise) and eventually I would say “see me after class.” I never banned them from my class but if FKA’s teachers did then it was most likely because her questions were disruptive and she monopolized the classroom and not because they couldn’t handle her (as she might think).

      • Ange says:

Yeah I knew students like that too, and it was because they were like Asiyah said, terrible, obnoxious, self involved bores who took up time that wasn’t meant for them. For example one woman in one of my classes insisted on asking questions in lectures despite being told repeatedly that questions were to be held for tutorials. She’d hold the class up so much we’d miss the end of what we were meant to be learning. I only WISH the teacher had had the balls to actually pull her up.

    • ell says:

maybe she was doing it in a way that was disruptive to the whole lecture…

    • j.eyre says:

Perhaps she kept asking “are we done yet?” “will this be on the test?” and “what are we talking about again?”

    • Dante says:

You are correct to side eye. I had classes with a few who took over the class because they were so precious with their insights. I wish they had been banned. Banned from one class? Maybe you could argue it was a personality conflict. Banned from two? You are the problem.

  8. Jan says:

Since few knew anything about her prior to her relationship with Pattinson and now she’s giving interviews like this talking about her relationship, I’d say she’s an active participant in her PR and has to realize you have to take the good with the bad. Or be quiet. Simple solution.

    • Becca says:

Eh, I see no ‘My boyfriend likes to lick my arm pits’ and ‘I want his babies’ in this interview. She get’s asked about him, she tries to avoid talking about anything too private. I hardly think she’s using it. Not in that way at least.

      • Chica says:

+100 Becca. All these ppl making these comments 1) didn’t read the entire article(s) and/or 2) don’t like her for pretty subjective reason. She answers questions she’s asked and they always tie into the racist and abusive CRAP she’s received from the public over her relationship with Rob. It’s a question about hows she’s coping with THAT, and then she answers as succinctly as possible and tries to move on. And if they keep prying, she’ll say “I rather not talk about it”. Period. Additionally, if she didn’t answer their legitimate questions against the BS, she’s be a bitch or some other derogatory term.

    • KellyBee says:

First off she been get ving interview before Rob and how is she using him. The reporter ask about her relationship. she said she didn’t want to talk aboutshe and then talked about the paparazzi and how she’s happy in her relationship and that was it about her relationship.

Try reading the full interview next time.

  9. Green Is Good says:

Why is getting press? For dating Sparkles? No idea what she does as an “artist”.

    • ell says:

in the UK she’s pretty well known. I like her music.

      • Liz says:

She was nominated for Mercury prize Best British Album in 2014 for LP1. So I would say she’s already pretty well established as alternative singer/songwriter. her music is definitely not to everyone’s taste but she does have fans.

    • Anname says:

She is releasing her 3rd album in the next month or two. Of course she has to do press to promote it. What does she do as an artist? Writes, performs, directs, produces…. she does almost everything herself. It may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but she definitely is creative and has something to contribute.

  10. ell says:

the racism towards her from rpatz’s fans is horrible though. same for the hate kristen’s gf gets. she’s not wrong about twihards lol

  11. ccinkissimmee says:

Has anyone tried listening to her music? She’s VERY talented and the visuals in her music videos are memorizing.

    • Luca76 says:

I actually listened to a couple of songs on YouTube and was pleasantly surprised. I mean it’s definitely a retread of Bjork and some other artists from the 80 & 90s punk scene but she has a decent voice.

    • Kitten says:

Right. It’s not incredibly original but it’s nice. She reminds me a lot of Grimes, not so much her singing voice but the style of her music.

    • Chica says:

And what’s most commendable is the amount of control she’s been able to have as an artist, especially as a woman, in this business. She’s involved in every single piece of her art. She coordinates it all, and for better or worse it’s on her, and she relishes that. She also isn’t amazing at honoring art forms that she learns, unlike the many thieves and misappropriatists infiltrating music and pop culture today. And she worked F*CKING HARD for all of it. She’s earned every accolade and opportunity she’s receive and has been grateful for it.

  12. Tatty says:

Can she PLEASE close her mouth just this once? I have literally NEVER seen a picture of her where her mouth isn’t open. Why? WHY? She could be so attractive if it wasn’t for that stupid open-mouth look she is trying to work.

    • Anname says:

If you look at her jaw and teeth, you can obviously see that her natural resting position is with her mouth open. This open mouth is not an affectation, it is the way she is built. Insult her all you want for her artistic choices or whatever, but you are criticizing her for the structure of her jaw and teeth.

      • Kitten says:

@Anname- Be careful. I said the same thing on an old Twigs post and got slammed for it.

I do think it’s odd that people keep picking on her for it though, because it’s quite obvious that this is just the shape of her mouth. Personally, I think it’s great that she embraces it because it’s unusual and gives her a unique look. But I will say that I wish she smiled more because she has a great smile.

    • Joyce James says:

@Tatty, If you look at the last photo in this article her mouth is closed. Such a petty statement. I’ve seen many photos of her where she is smiling, and other photos of her mouth closed.

    • bondbabe says:

I am sure it is not intentional. My lips also naturally part with my resting face; I have to consciously press them together.

    • EN says:

Do you find it personally offensive or something? I just don’t get the attacks on how a person looks.
It is not like we have control over our genes and what looks we were born with.

    • MBP says:

Maybe she’s not “working” anything. Maybe that’s her *face*.
      Signed, someone with impressive resting-bitch-face.

    • Tiffany :) says:

I actually love the shape of her mouth. The way the upper lip is in such a bow shape, it is really lovely. I don’t really care if her mouth is open, I think people sometimes exaggerate in this regard anymore. They act like having lips slightly parted is the same thing as having your jaw dropped completely open.

      • bondbabe says:

That is a great description of my upper lip and how it parts. Some people *cough*Jennifer Lopez*cough* do the exaggerated mouth-open thing.

  13. Moffa says:

If Kristen Stewart said these comments in a interview everyone would be up her ass about how she was whiney and ungrateful. Seems like Rob may have a type. “I’d rather be in ballet class” then go be in ballet class. Choices, dear. You don’t have to be a famous “artist.”

    • Tiny Martian says:

At her level, an artist doesn’t just get to do whatever they want to do. She has contractual obligations, she is legally bound to promote her albums and concerts. It sounds like she’s having a hard time adjusting to this, I imagine it would be difficult for most artists who are accustomed to having more control over how they spend their time.

  14. Trinity says:

Love twigs and love twigs music. Ignoring rest or dribble. She and Rob (who’s looking better and better) and waiting on Melissa. Kaiser, loosen up and that Virginia slide into DC a bit so you can discover your cooler you. Lol no she doesn’t come off snotty at all – more grateful and thoughtful but she does sound naive to press and how to push sound bites. Twihards are idiots – sorry not sorry. These are Kristen Stewart fans from what I’ve read on a feeding frenzy to misdirect their hate at anyone that’s not Kristen. Pretty sick and sad. Anyhoo… Loved this insightful interview.

  15. QQ says:

I Love Twigs and her Music SOOOO MUCH down to the fact she isn’t all cuddly and Open In Interviews Like she is somehow expected to LOL she is alternatively Bitchy/standoffish/weird/snooty and I’m kinda Here for this ridiculousness along with her talent, she is just fantastic, her Music Is Make a Baby -or-pothead sex to it Epic

But serious question: At what point is it incumbent upon her apparent fiance at the very least boyfriend to come out swinging at least once for his lady Publicly and call this bullsh*t delusional racist sh!t sundae off?? I mean THAT is what I most side eye here That this Girl is being left to defend her relationship and it’s Authenticity on her own

    • Anname says:

He has no social media, he is not promoting anything now… how is he supposed to speak up for her? Issue a press release? Doesn’t that just give attention to the racist idiots?

Rob believes actions speak louder than words – when he showed up with her at the Met Gala, that said everything to me. He never walked any carpet with Kristen (aside from Twi promo) – so the Met Gala thing was huge for Rob, and a statement in itself. He goes everywhere with her, she has a huge ring on her finger… these things speak much more powerfully than any words he can say.

      • Tig says:

Amen to everything you said. This young woman is fully capable of telling folks to back off/ your opinion means nothing to me herself. It’s insulting to her to imply otherwise. She would probably take it more to heart if a dance critic had a problem with her performance than some anonymous cretin posting garbage on an Instagram account- as well she should.

      • Joyce James says:

Agree with everything you said. Some people rush to every article on FKA Twigs just to leave nasty comments or advice on how/what Rob and Twigs should be doing. So sad!

    • Chica says:

Let the complaints come AFTER Rob has done an interview where he is asked to address it. Until then, his actions have said all we’ve needed to know.

    • Franca says:

She doesn’t need to be cuddly and open, but you don’t get to be bitchy and snotty in interviews. If you’re promoting an album you need the press just as much as they need you. Quid pro qou. ( not saying she was snotty in this interview, she just sounds pretentious).

Her music is not my thing so I only know her from interviews and I don’t like her. I didn’t like KStew either and I don’t particularly care about Rob.
I only read this to look at her pictures because she’s STUNNING.

      • Chica says:

Franca, have you read any of her interviews before the world got wind that she was Rob’s gf?

I think the tone of how the interviews are conducted have changed a bit, which then changes how she speaks about the press. Her experience with the press and her view of it has strained ever since her relationship has been public knowledge. I asked bc I wanted to get an idea if you see a difference in her older interviews compared to the newer ones.

  16. wow says:

Quote:(The Twihards trolling her online:) “It is pretty horrible. But ultimately, I’m in an amazing relationship. So it doesn’t matter.”

I like this response. It’s also how I imagine the mindset women like Kate Middleton and Sofia Hellqvist have when it comes to their many critics. It’s saying sure, people can say whatever they want but ultimately we’re the ones who know what our relationship is like and it’s good. That’s a great attitude to have when you date or marry high profile people. I wish them the best.

  17. Rodene says:

So good to see how far twigs has come. Loved that interview. I saw her perform back in 2012 in NYC and she was phenom but only a few tracks. Her producers were excited to intro new talent. Now it’s so great to see her so evolved and still grounded doing it her way. She’s really soft spoken but has lots of energy and creativity. As for the rest, her fans who’ve been around since then don’t care about twihards besides leaving her out of their venomous fight and make fools of themselves. I’d never imagined her with Robert Pattinson but he’s looking better each time they’re together. Twigs isn’t pretentious but in her creative head. She’s a very honest and sweet person but strong – she’s been through a lot. Her music isn’t created for the masses but that doesn’t mean the masses aren’t attracted to it or don’t appreciate its value. She really does a great job of speaking on finding your self worth, feminity and mining your heart to young women. Wish her the best. Funny enough, these Kristen stewart fans nasty crusade really puts them in an ugly light when if they’d spent an hour just listening they’d appreciate how we are all on the same side.

    • Chica says:

This was well said. All my thoughts delivered more nicely than I’d be capable of.

    • belle de jour says:

“Twigs isn’t pretentious but in her creative head. ”

Thank you. It is as incredibly easy to make fun of artists describing their art or process as it is incredibly difficult for many artists to describe their art or process. For an artist serious about their work, this is often a near-impossible conundrum because the art itself – not necessarily an interview, or even words about it – is the way they’ve found to best express themselves.

  18. Leah says:

I think she is creative and takes her music and art very seriously. That comes across as pretensious yes but if bjork or kate bush were young artists today people would have called them pretensious too. I like that there are are artists like here around. I think she will become better and better as she grows as an artist.

  19. oneshot says:

…..so I see the backlash against her has started already? For the grand offence of being some sort of artist and answering questions about the abuse she gets from nasty racist Twihards. Good god.

    • jaye says:

      This. So much.

    • Esmom says:

I wouldn’t call it “backlash,” I’d call it some mildly critical comments (at least here anyway, can’t speak for the Twihards), which is something that anyone in the spotlight has to get used to navigating.

      • oneshot says:

If past Celebitchy trends are anything to go by, we have about six months before almost all the comments in her threads become about how she must be a golddigger, or her discography/performance list is “inflated” and she’d be nothing without Sparkles. All because she may appear on red carpets with Sparkles sometimes.

Not to mention people saying they prefer a Kartrashian to her because “at least the Kartrashians don’t pretend to be anything else”. (this is all based on recent past observations of comments in threads about the partners of famous celebrities, mind. She could buck the trend.)

  20. EN says:

Interesting girl. I don’t know about the music, I haven’t listened but I like what she puts out visually. It is a mix of edgy, modern and classic.

  21. buzz says:

5 years from now what will she be doing for a living? is she really expecting to be doing this?

    • Insomniac says:

      Why wouldn’t she?

    • kay says:

five years from now she will likely have evolved and continue to up the ante and continue to make money off her talent. is she really expecting to continue to make music? uh, yeah. and why wouldn’t she?

      • Scotchy says:

Well she might not be doing this 5 years from now, because her style of music doesn’t have longevity, nor does she have the kind of voice that resonates with the masses like Adele, nor she she write inclusive songs that the everyman can get into. You are aware that on this record she was co writing and producing with some of pops hottest producers, the end result was still pretty niche specific art house music. Her power lays in performance. A performance based artist like herself if they are smart eventually other aspects of performance/moving arts. I I am willing to bet that will happen 5 years from now after the twinkles wedding of course.

  22. Dr.Funkenstein says:

Man, I don’t get this woman AT ALL. Yuk.

  23. Queenbee says:

Can Twigs actually close her mouth all the way?
When she eats does it look like she’s eating with her mouth open?
Does her mouth get dry because it’s always open?
My questions are always so irrelevant to the story…..but I am curious.

    • kay says:

it is called facial structure. as in, very clearly, her teeth are prominent…and this means her lips will be somewhat parted when her face is relaxed. yes, she can close her mouth…otherwise she would’t be able to eat or sing or give head to sparkles. if she is in the midst of doing something with her mouth and jaw and teeth (eating. drinking. talking. singing. kissing. etc) then her mouth will, in fact, open and close. when she is not doing something with her mouth and jaw and teeth, her mouth will be somewhat open.
i am not being bitchy mcwenchface here, i am honestly curious: have you heard her music or seen her dance?
i, personally, find her very attractive. i love her mouth and teeth, but i bet it took her a long time to come to terms with them in such a judgmental world..and i can only imagine what taunts that little lady had to endure growing up.
      can we all C E L E B R A T E the endless variety of beauty out there? seriously?
and if any of you find her unattractive, then why spew venom?
does it truly make women feel BETTER to trash other women? when the hell are women going to finally band together? hells bells, misogyny really is helped along by women, isn’t it?
(queenbee, the top of the post was for you, the rest was for every single woman who comes to celebitchy. i have been here for a few years now and i cannot believe how vicious other women can be when it comes to the way another woman looks. it is depressing, distressing and, frankly, shameful.)

      • oneshot says:

I get criticisms of style or posture/bearing, because those things are things one can control.

But I don’t feel right about people going in on the looks of any celebrity who’s made a career off something other than their appearance and attractiveness – FKA Twigs is worlds away from the likes of Itchy Azalea or Kartrashians. Especially for something that she can’t help, like her facial structure.

  24. Yana says:

I think her and Rob make a good couple. They both seem laid back but kind of pretentious.

    • JaneS says:

      ^This.

I read the whole article (before I get leapt on by the Twiglets) and she does come across as smart BUT pretentious. The folly of youth perhaps where she knows all the answers, she got ‘banned’ from school for asking too many questions (you scholar, you) blah blah blah. Special little snowflake.

She’ll get over it. She’ll grow up. She’ll look back at some of those comments and cringe. But, meh, she’s doing what she wants and is getting paid for it. Power to her.

      • Chica says:

I think bears repeating and that pretentious is a really misused term.

        from belle de jour:
“…It is as incredibly easy to make fun of artists describing their art or process as it is incredibly difficult for many artists to describe their art or process. For an artist serious about their work, this is often a near-impossible conundrum because the art itself – not necessarily an interview, or even words about it – is the way they’ve found to best express themselves. ”

        Definitions of Pretentious:
        Adjective
        1. characterized by assumption of dignity or importance, especially when exaggerated or undeserved
        2. having or creating a deceptive outer appearance of great worth; ostentatious
        3. full of pretense or pretension; having no factual basis; false.

        Pretence: noun
        1. pretending or feigning; make-believe:

Based on that, I don’t know how anyone can say she’s pretentious and behaves that way. What she says comes off as completely genuine and she doesn’t not blast other ppl or exclude others like an in doing so.

  25. Corrie says:

twigs complex interview was everything and a bag of chips. first, 90% of the article was on her music, inspiration and some pretty great quotes. I like her more after reading this…a really hard worker.
“I haven’t had an easy life at all, but everything seems to be working out…I’m so grateful for that…I’d always worked hard at music & at dancing, but I never thought I’d get the opportunity to be doing this”twigs”
“But ultimately, I’m in an amazing relationship. So it doesn’t matter.”
    New fan.

    • ORLY says:

Thanks for mentioning those quotes. I’ve loved her since 2012, and my admiration grows daily.

  26. AlmondJoy says:

Are the “why doesn’t she ever close her mouth” comments really necessary??? I mean every freakin article?! Is it not obvious that this is just the structure of her mouth, the way it’s shaped? My cousin has a similarly shaped mouth. Even after braces, her mouth does not close over her teeth unless she makes a conscious effort to do so. Twigs is beautiful and very unique looking, sorry that she doesn’t meet your standards of beauty.

    • Naddie says:

This. People comment like she’s trying to force a sexy pose, like so many celebrities do, when it’s so clear that it’s just her anatomy. It doesn’t even mean she’s a mouth breather.

  27. Source says:

Let me make this clear. This is not Twihards. These are not Rob fans. These are Kristen Stewart fans who can’t let Robsten go. The only people who think Rob and Kristen are married with secret babies are Kristen fans.

If you look at the avis of the people heaping racist abuse on Twigs, they ALL have Kristen avis or Robsten avis.

That Rob’s fans are blamed for the racism is upsetting. Rob fans are THRILLED he is in a loving, happy relationship. Period. The end.

  28. Paige says:

Actually my friend it is twihards. I’ve seen the crazies from both sides. I’ve read the horrible things said about Robert and FKA twigs and the horrible things said about Kristen and her GF, Alicia. I seriously doubt all these crazies are just Kristen Stewart fans. I’ll bet on it. As a person that reads a lot of celeb gossip, I do remember the hate Kristen Stewart received from dating Robert, way before the scandal. The thing is Kristen and Robert crazy fans either want them with their ex or they want to date them.

    • Source says:

Actually, the whole “Rob fans hate everyone he dates, because they want to date him” is a bit insulting. Yes, these are ALL Kristen/Robsten fans. Every Rob fan I’ve seen is completely happy he is happy.

That they didn’t like Kristen because she cheated on him and seemed to not be happy with him/he with her is a separate issue. It’s not that Rob fans hate everyone he dates. They just didn’t like Kristen with him, because they both seemed miserable. Not only that, but they were constantly hiding that they were together.

Rob fans are thrilled that they both are now in loving relationships with people they are proud to be seen displaying affection for.

And yes, Kristen fans are hating all over her relationship with Alicia, because it stomps all over their Robsten fantasy. So they have to call Rob Twigs’ manager and Alicia is her “gal pal.”
