OmniPeace Charity Brings Out Celebs

I feel it’s important to post about celebs going to charity events, and not just if they go out to eat or go clubbing, especially when it’s a worthwhile cause.

This past weekend, celebs such as David Arquette and wife Courteney Cox, Casey Affleck and David Spade went out to an event for OmniPeace, a charity hoping to end extreme poverty in sub-Saharan Africa by 2005. While it’s now 2007 and this hasn’t happened, I commend them for continuing on and helping out.

OmniPeace sells things like t-shirts, chocolate bars and baseball caps giving 50% of the profit to the organization Millennium Promise, a non-profit organization that wants to go from village to village in Africa, erasing poverty by teaching and providing skills and tools to rid the villages of poverty and to help them become self-sustaining. The OmniPeace website has many celebs lending their support, with people like Naomi Campbell, Sienna Miller and JoJo all wearing t-shirts. You can support them by buying a shirt or any of their gear, or by giving donations directly to Millennium Promise.

This is the conclusion on the OmniPeace website, and I think it is worth noting:

There comes a time in every generation when civilization redefines itself and momentum builds to bring down a status quo that people are no longer willing to accept; the abolition of slavery, woman’s liberation, the fall of the Berlin wall, apartheid and now extreme poverty and disease. Help give the poorest people in the world a chance to survive by purchasing an OmniPeace branded product.
