Here are some assorted photos of Minka Kelly from Wednesday. She was seen going to the salon earlier in the day, plus she was pap’d exiting a gym. Considering Minka historically does not get pap’d on the reg, I kind of wonder what the deal is these days. Were the paparazzi just trailing her because of the Sean Penn rumors? Or did Minka want to be seen and she arranged for some pap strolls? I really don’t know.
But the Sean Penn rumors are still happening. In June, Sean turned up at Minka’s birthday dinner in Napa and he picked up the check. Sources claim he’s really into her and sources also claim that Minka’s friends are all “GIRL NO!!” The rumors and reports are still swirling, so yesterday Minka decided to deny the story directly. Sort of. Not really. She tweeted this:

I don’t understand the phrasing? “Not dating a friend I had a group dinner with.” Wouldn’t it be easier to write, “I had a group dinner with friends, I’m not dating anyone in that group”? But whatever, Minka and Sean are “friends” and they are “not dating” but he’ll pay for the fancy dinner and blah blah. I think Sean would probably love it if he could flaunt a younger girlfriend like Minka, but maybe we should give Minka more credit – she seems to want to shut it down. Props to her.

They’re totally dating, right? That’s what I got from that non-denial denial. Also, I read somewhere Sean Penn being described as “sentient beef jerky” and I couldn’t agree with this more.
I know celebrities get a lot of perks, but I seriously can’t imagine having media speculation about some sort of awkward relationship situation I’m in the middle of. Can you imagine having a journalist ask you about how you feel about an ex cheating on you, or to confirm whether you are dating some guy who you haven’t had the “conversation” with yet?

I feel like yes, they’re hooking up casually, she staged the pics without Penn’s consent to get some publicity, and now Penn asked her (not very gently) to address the rumors and deny it. This theory of mine if based on the certain fact that NOBODY gets away sneaking pics of celebs at the French Laundry, it just can’t happen: you would get kicked out instantly and banned for life.. That’s one of the most exclusive restaurants in the US, no way someone at a near table will sell TMZ the story that they’ve even heard Penn explaining how he met Minka, it’s obviously staged. If Penn instead was a part of this op and did it to try to make Charlize jealous (like he did with Robin before) then he’s more of an idiot that I thought.
Yep. I totally feel like Minka staged this based on what you said. Plus, a majority of her friends work in PR, marketing, brand development, etc. She knows what she is doing. This story puts her name back in the news, considering she is super irrelevant.
I thought Minka does call the paps relatively often it’s just that no one really cares…? I feel like I’m constantly seeing links featuring her various outfits

How does she afford to live in LA? Honest question, does she work and I just don’t see it anywhere, is there trustfund money of something?

Her Dad was an Aerosmith guitarist for, like, a hot minute back in the 80’s. (Minka still clings to the whole “rock star daughter” thing though). I’m sure Minka gets some money from FNL reruns.
No. She has given interviews about growing up and there is no trust fund money. Mom was a dancer and money was tight to non existent. I think she makes a pretty good living attending the opening of an envelope.

Great question! I was wondering that too. On her instagram there is no sign of her working, it’s just leisure, leisure and more leisure. She must get some residuals from her t.v roles. But, not much. Does she make money from her daily pap walks?
Silverlake is pretty cheap. So is a share situation in Downtown LA. Come live in Sydney, Central London, or NY and complain about it. LA has remained (in parts) somehow affordable still….the irony is the GiGi Mansions (Sic) and on the other end down; El Cheapo K-Town apt’s.
She was a regular on a TV show last year, and works pretty steadily. Nothing really high profile, but probably enough to support herself just fine.

exactly Sean penn and friendship with a pretty girl can’t be put in the same sentence when it comes to him. He’s a pig, and I can’t imagine him having a genuine friendship with a beautiful girl without him hoping or pushing for more. That’s why I’ve always side-eyed Charlize when she explained again and again that she and Penn had been friends for 20 years….20 year ago she was 20 year old, she was a struggling pretty model trying to make it in Hollywood and he was an stablished actor with lots of friends and connections…do the math…

Maybe those are the ladies she took on her birthday date with her. Sean likes to control the reigns of his relationship. Minka is easily controlled so your theory makes sense. Minkas not letting Sean go so she’ll do whatever it is to keep him. Even if it is to make an ambiguous comment about it on Twitter
Yes, the French Laundry is one of the top gourmet restaurants in the US, starred Michelin and the waiting list opens 3 or 4 months prior. Its very expensive and super private: they’re not looking for publicity and popularity, they like being some sort a secret circle. That’s why Minka’s table has had to be reserved months before, or…OR… an A list celebrity called asking a favor and they got in…enters Penn…
I don’t know is penn is controlling her or what these two are staging (and I’ve always thought Penn really loves the attention, his badboy fame and the PR games more than he wants us to believe) but I do think this relationship is calculated from one or both parts and makes me go ew….
Yes. Eonline had a similar story up yesterday and said the rumors were dying out so minka’s non denial denial caused them to run amuck. I take it they weren’t fans of hers. But yes I agree. Sean loves the attention just as much as minka. This non denial just sounds like a confirmation for me.

@tara…you most be new here. Read between the lines. It sounds like they’re hooking up and Sean told her to cool it. She’s been leaking stories to the press about him. If you want to deny a story, you don’t wait 3 weeks and leak to us weekly that it was your first date.
From Chris Evans to Sean Penn talk about downgrading and desperation. Same as her irrelevant career. Nobody is checking for her and her PR staged dating life anymore so she is stirring up the pot by being vague on Twitter again.
That doesn’t explain why Sean Penn, of all people, was at her birthday group dinner, why she let him pay her bill and how fast TMZ got all the juicy details and pics. I couldn’t help but chuckle at “Not in my nature”. Really?! Coming from a D-lister who has paps on speed dial and keeps dating famous guys to stay relevant.
It’s so weird to see more comments implying or directly saying that Minka is a slut and a famewhore, rather than Sean Penn is a woman beater, rapist, misogynist, and racist at the very least. I know most readers here know that about him, but a lot of people seem to try to shame her for her dating life.
I hope she doesn’t date that horrible man, but it’s because of him, no one deserves to be Sean Penn’s partner.
