Alicia Vikander stepped out for a Louis Vuitton event after the breakup rumors

Over the weekend, Louis Vuitton did a big launch event for London Fashion Week. The name of this event was “Louis Vuitton series 3 Exhibition Launch Party.” Which basically means that a bunch of fashion girls came out, posed for photos and drank champagne, I’m guessing. The event was pretty well attended, with Cara Delevingne making an appearance, as well as Cressida Bonas and one of the faces of LV these days, Michelle Williams. And of course, LV brand ambassador Alicia Vikander was there.

This was Alicia’s first outing since Us Weekly reported that she and Michael Fassbender were over after nine months of dating. Hours after Us Weekly published that story, Gossip Cop did a denial based on an “assurance” from “a mutual pal of Gossip Cop and Vikander” that Fassy and Vikander are definitely still together. There was nothing from Fassbender’s camp, which doesn’t surprise me because he really doesn’t get his publicist to confirm or deny stuff in the press about his romantic life either way. We’ll only know for sure about the breakup – if it happened – when Alicia confirms it or when Michael just steps out with a new girlfriend.

Meanwhile, Alicia made Slate’s shortlist for the possible Oscar contenders coming out of TIFF. The Danish Girl got a great reception in Toronto, although most awards-watchers believe that Vikander will likely be put up for Best Supporting Actress awards, not Best Actress, which is what Slate claims. I do wonder if all of this awards talk is why Vikander wants people to know that she’s still on with Fassbender. Then again, she’s getting all of this Oscar buzz without him, so why would anyone believe that she “needs” a big Hollywood romance to help “sell” her as an Oscar campaigner?

More photos from the Louis Vuitton event. I love Cressida’s skirt.

  1. Emma says:

Alicia’s real ally in the awards race is not Fassbender, it’s all those critics and Oscar pundits who have been pushing her hard for a while now. I suppose Brie Larson is the next one who will benefit from their support.

    • Nic919 says:

She actually is pretty good in The Danish Girl and holds up against Redmayne. I had not been impressed with her until now, but I can see why the Oscar buzz is happening. She is also in the movie as much as Redmayne, so she is a lead as much as he is.

Fassbender never seems to do the Oscar campaign well, so I do wonder if their relationship has gone to the way side so her chances are not negatively affected by him.

    • NUTBALLS says:

I liked Alicia in Royal Affair and Ex Machina, but after seeing Brie Larson in Short Term 12 and hearing all the critical acclaim she’s getting for ROOM, I’m hoping she snags all the awards from this year’s It Girl.

      • korra says:

I just hope they both get recognized for their work. I like more diversity in the actresses anyways. I’m tired of it girls and the one true talent whom no one can ever pair up with phenomena that the media and their agents try to make happen every single goddamn year. As if in order to be unique and worthy you must truly be the most exceptional and loved person in the room and no one can possibly be better than you at anything. It’s effing exhausting.

I’m so hesitant to see Room. I’ve only seen Brie in comedies so far. I keep trying to watch Short Term 12, but omg it’s too heart breaking. I can’t handle it.

  2. Samtha says:

She’s a decent actress, but she’s like the female Joel Edgerton. Once I stop looking at her, I can’t remember what her face actually looks like. Put her in a lineup with other random brunettes, and I probably couldn’t pick her out.

    • jinni says:

Yes, there is nothing distinct or memorable about her. That’s probably why they have her in this pr relationship, to make here more familiar. But they really should have picked an actor that was more well known himself. Sure Fassbender has been in some well known and big movies, but he isn’t really a well known actor himself , so i don’t know why her people thought hooking up with him would make her more well known. They should have hooked her up with someone like Chris Evans or Bradley Cooper, if they wanted the relationship to really push her into the spotlight.

      • qwerty says:

“he isn’t really a well known actor himself”

        Really?

      • Blossom says:

Wow. Michael Fassbender is the most celebrated actors-ACTOR of our time. See what happens after Steve Jobs and MacBeth debut over the next few month’s. Barring some unforeseen insanity (like losing, thanks to competing nominations for both roles splitting the vote…) that Best Actor Oscar is his.

      • jinni says:

qwerty: People might recognize his face from X-men, but I highly doubt that if you showed his face to a random person on the street they’d be able to tell you his name, not like Evans or Cooper. Don’t mistake internet fame with real fame.

      • balte says:

Lol at the pr relationship! I thought two not well known actors were supposed to want publicity as opposed to the tumblr-ish pics.

    • LB says:

I just watched Ex Machina. She didn’t register at all. Could be due to the character she plays but I was surprised since there were so many good reviews for her specifically.

      • mia girl says:

Did the end of Ex Machina bother you as much as it did me? I thought the film was compelling and Oscar Isaac and Domhnall Gleeson were really good, but the ending was meh.

      • Iknowwhatboyslike says:

She is a dull and lackluster actress. A very pretty girl, but she doesn’t have that “pop” the less beautiful actresses have. I loved everything about A Royal Affair except for her. She totally washed her character out.

      • EN says:

I love her and Oscar Isaacs in Ex Machina. Until then I wasn’t sure she was all that, but now I am a fan.

      • LB says:

@mia girl, oh God yes! I imagine the movie was intentionally cold to fit the theme, so I wasn’t surprised to be a little unsettled and even a little unfeeling. But I mostly left it thinking, wow – great performances, great cinematography, great idea, but the ending was just…there. Bleh.

    • EN says:

That is a great thing for an actress or actor, though. They can mold their look to suit the role. It is not a negative at all.

      • jinni says:

Maybe if they only want to be a character actor, but remember Alicia wants to be famous/ a star and being forgettable is not a star making quality.

      • ell says:

yes and no. you do need a certain something that stands out, and I haven’t seen that yet in any of her roles. she’s good enough and seems like a fun girl, but nothing to write home about.

  3. A.Key says:

I can’t wait for her to disappear into obscurity again.

    • Mia4s says:

No way! Somehow just because she seems to bug so many people on this site I want her to get nominated for (or win!) the Oscar and marry Fassbender. LOL, I’m evil! 😜

  4. Allie says:

I feel like I only know who she is because of this website. She is no where near a household name yet, even though she wants to be. Something nice: she looks pretty in these pictures.

  5. Astrid says:

    hobo chic

  6. Matador says:

I hate when the powers-that-be shove the designated “it girl” down our throats. She’s okay, no great shakes. Maybe spread the wealth of scripts to other up and coming actresses instead of putting her in *every*thing?

    • EN says:

She was in several movies this year, she has to promote them. I am not sure “shove” is the word for it.

    • Blossom says:

She IS a good actress with an unusual look (What I call Better Than Beautiful) but… She should never have made those award-greedy remarks in W because she has surely alienated American actresses whose votes she would need. Even if she deserved the prize her up-front remarks make her look like she’s not in this job to do good work. All actresses THINK about prizes but nobody has the chutzpah to say so to the press(!).. As for MF, she’s way too young for him and he needs a WOMAN. Still, after seeing her on late night tv I got a much more positive impression of her and wish her success. Weinstein shoving her down our throats is doing her no favor, however.

  7. lower-case deb says:

    they don’t look very happy.

  8. Angie says:

Oh look! Cressida Bonas is there! Desperate to stay relevant after strategically being seen with Prince Harry on his birthday just before her 5 minute part in Tulip Fever arrives. She’s so independent, right? Making a name for herself! Hahaha just kidding, if she actually has any opportunities it’s thanks to her association with Harry.

  9. ninal says:

she has very pretty coloring-thats all I got.

  10. Wren33 says:

That dress reminds me of seat belts.

    • Pondering thoughts says:

      Me too.
      Positive or negative?
I thought it was both interesting and even chic though not in a grand way.

    • QQ says:

OMGGGG me too it looks like Project Runway Unconventional Materials challenge, not the one that wins mind you, but a safe one

  11. serena says:

Oh it’s nice to see Michelle Williams! I wonder if she has any movies that’ll come out this year, or the next..

  12. Tia says:

I don’t have much of an opinion on her personality. She’s been quite good in what I seen. I don’t know why people on this site dislike her so much. I guess she’s not elite enough. 😂Everyone on this site seems to blow smoke up British upperclass actors behind.
I rather admire her for getting to the point where she’s beating all those British actresses to desirable parts.

I bet she wasn’t the first choice for those parts being Swedish and all. Honestly her accent is barely noticeable which rather impressed me.She strikes me as a hard working ambitious person. Like fassy.
Maybe she wears it more on her sleeve, but you can bet every single successful actress in Hollywood has the same level of drive and ambition.

    • Naddie says:

I might be wrong, but I think part of the dislike is because she looks plain (beautiful, but no striking features, no rocking style), still she’s driven and confident and doesn’t care about being sweet or likeable. Also, I smell a lot of Fassbender jealousy, like she’s not “interesting enough” for him. I don’t actually love her, I can sense a lot of the smug people talk about, but I think the negativity is too much and not fair.

      • Tia says:

I think you are right about fassy jealousy.
As far as plain is concerned. A lot of plain ( as in not spectacularly beautiful or simply ordinary looking) people are adored here. Especially ordinary looking men, like hiddles and cumber and prince Harry. The difference is they have the plummy vowels and effortlessly elite background. Hiddles ang cumber would never dream of being as forthright about their ambition as vikander. But you still see it in more subtle ways, in cumbers Hyper awareness of his own image and hiddles overeagness to please. You can bet both of those guys expect to be at the oscars every year too. Maybe it’s a female vs men thing too? Men get away with ambition wereas it’s seen as unseemly for a women?

      • EN says:

        > Maybe it’s a female vs men thing too? Men get away with ambition whereas it’s seen as unseemly for a women?

Well, there is some of it to different degrees depending on the country. More so in the US , especially in the south, than in Europe. More so in Eastern/ Southern Europe than in Nothern/Western. Very much so in Asia, pretty much everywhere I know of.

I can’t stand false modesty , it is so obvious. This is why I always disagree with criticism of ambitious people. At that level – they are all cutthroat ambitious regardless of how they appear.
The false modesty such as displayed by Jennifer Lawrence, Reese Witherspoon and the like is actually counterproductive. Why not be honest about how much work, diplomacy, negotiation and planning, networking and sometimes plane groveling goes into success so that other women can learn how to succeed?

As for BC and TH, I agree , it is so obvious they are both dying to make it. But they were taught the false modesty skills well. And I don’t fault them employing them. They already have to field “too posh and privileged” accusations left and right, Now, imagine if they didn’t act self-depreciating? The same with Redmayne.

      • FF says:

She’s just one of those promising young actresses who can’t niche into the all American category, who’s attractive, dating a fave and can’t be brought down by claims that she can’t act because she’s a current industry favourite with too many projects that say otherwise to her name.

So the next stop is “she’s so pretty but so plain” and “I can’t remember what she looks like when I’m not looking at her” nonsense.

lol, Predictable. Cue ten “that’s not the reason I don’t like her” comments before moving on to say Duff, Garner, and McAdams can do no wrong…

That said, she really needs new stylists: I don’t know how they keep dressing her so passionlessly.

    • H says:

@Naddie I’ve said this a couple of times on CB, I’m a lesbian, so not interested in Fassy’s junk; but I dislike Alicia. How does that jealousy theory work then? I don’t like her because in interviews she’s been smug and thirsty to an extreme. If she tones that down and acts a bit humble, I got no problems with her. She can bang Fassy into next week, don’t care. 🙂

      • Naddie says:

I don’t like her either, but even if every member comes at me to say how much it has nothing to do with the man, I’m still sure a lot have it. It’s the kind of thing you just can’t prove, but it’s there somehow. Sure I’m not saying it’s everyone or even majority. Or maybe I’m just projecting because I have a hidden crush on him? Even if I had, I wouldn’t be alone here.

      • H says:

I hate Mel Gibson with a passion, but if I say that, apparently there’s no jealousy motive involved. But say that about another woman? Double standard much?

Sometimes you just dislike someone. Simple as that.

      • Mia4s says:

Where are people seeking out these massive amounts of interviews to be offended by her “smugness” (boy that word is used a lot on women…)? I can recall maybe two? The New York profile (which wasn’t all that flattering) and another where she basically talked about having to wrestle 6’5 Armie Hammer (which was hilarious). Maybe I just don’t care enough? You have to go looking for her so I guess I just don’t see it.

@H you’re going to compare a woman you find “smug” to a man who is a violent racist and anti-Semite? You honestly think that’s a reasonable comparison? Geez.

      • H says:

@Mia4s the only interviews I’ve ever read from Alicia are the ones linked here on CB. I don’t go searching for her interviews, nor am I on Tumblr, where the AV hate seems to be more pronounced. But it’s the same on the SH threads. Don’t particularly care for Mrs. Cumberbatch, but if you say that, you get the jealous comment. My thing is, why can’t women, unlike men, say we dislike someone without the judgement?

You are correct, the Mel Gibson comparison was not a good choice.

      • korra says:

@Mia4s +1 to everything you said. There’s nothing wrong with being critical of her acting or her fashion sense. But people call her smug based on just that new york times profile and paint her with that brush ever since. To compare her to Mel Gibson, have you lost your mind? lol shoved down our throat. Guys she’s not Jlaw. She’s not everywhere. There is literally no one that knows her. She’s shoved down your throat because she’s Chastaining this year and we come to a very specific part of the internet to read this stuff. Plus she’s campaigning.

Here’s the real double standard. You criticize a woman for something that even you could easily be accused of, but your standards and tolerance for the smugness of men is much higher. THAT’S the double standard you really want to call out.

    • Saks says:

I like her. She was teared apart for that interview but she didn’t say anything offensive, just that she was prepared to be more famous. I bet all actors have that kind of thoughts but the difference is that she said it. I’ve seen her interviews and she seems fun, and she is a great actress

      • EN says:

A lot of it is cultural differences. Some cultures (actually many cultures) are far more direct in expressing themselves.

      • Holmes says:

I like her, too. I get why she’s offputting to some, but I appreciate that she doesn’t do the false modesty thing. I think she’s a pretty good actress, too.

  13. HK9 says:

I know I’m probably alone in this but I love Alicia’s dress.

    • Renee says:

Serviceable but a little dowdy. It a little reminiscent of a basketweave purse.

    • Tiny Martian says:

You’re not alone, HK9. I love it too! And I’m also very impressed by Vikander. She’s clearly an intelligent, hard-working actress, and I thought she was excellent in A Royal Affair and Ex Machina. I’m looking forward to seeing her performance in The Danish Girl as well.

  14. Naddie says:

    She looks good, but sad.

  15. Armenthrowup says:

Okay, deliberately ignoring all the Fassaloonies (because, WOW), she’s a great actress, end of. Who she is dating shouldn’t color an honest opinion of her work. And yes, she’s beautiful, but that’s irrelevant, isn’t it?

  16. SBS says:

I wonder what people will say once she’s no longer dating Fassbender (which might already be the case) and she still gets some negative comments. I’m personally stuck between “meh” and “nah” when it comes to Alicia, mainly based on interviews I’ve read with her in Swedish press.

    • Renee says:

Yes, if you’ve read enough of her interviews it’s clear she rarely comes across well. But her stans will always dismiss any criticism as jealously.

      • korra says:

I’m not a stan, I just dont’ get the overwhelming hate. I do like her because she’s at least forthright about her ambition instead of acting like it all comes easily to her and she doesn’t expect it. I prefer honesty over that fake humbleness. Besides most of the people that are hating on her always bring up that one interview. Don’t know swedish so couldn’t say.

I’m just a little tired that she’s being castigated for this when Jon Hamm, Fassy, and all their contemporaries can also be described as smug and pretentious but don’t get near the same level of dislike thrown at them.

      • SBS says:

@korra But pretty much all celebrities get negative remarks at some point. She just rubs some people the wrong way. Just like some people don’t like Cumberbatch or JLaw or Fassbender. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a negative comment about JLaw be met by “you’re a jealous Coldplay fan!”. Like I said if she’s no longer dating Fassbender maybe things will change, or maybe some people will still have negative things to say.

      • Tia says:

        @SBS
You can’t compare Chris Martin to fassy. I have yet to see people lust after Martin en masse on this site. Fassy on the other hand has been as popular as cumber and hiddles at various times.
Apart from that one single interview ( where she pretty much said what every ambitious young actress is thinking) nobody has actually given a real reason for why they dislike her. Its mainly seems to be based on feelings that ” she is smug” or ” she’s not that pretty”. I can see why people think the dislike relates to her being fassys girlfriend.

      • korra says:

No duh celebs get hateful comments. I’m not dumb, but some comments are ridiculous no? Some of the reasons people give for why they hate her is bizarre and my criticism is directly related to the double standard that I personally see with how male and female celebs are treated, which is just exhausting. I’m not sitting here accusing you of being jealous because of Fassy, but there’s no doubt that people are much more forgiving of the Damon, Fassy, Hiddles, Cumber, etc types than they are of her being honest.

Maybe we just have different definitions of smug. I don’t understand why she’s so much more smug when practically everyone who is ambitious thinks like her.

  17. Andrea says:

I’m a Fassbender lover and I loved her on A Royal Affair. but I need to see more movies with her in it to fully judge.

  18. Sarah says:

I’m not a fan of over acting actors, I like performances that are nuanced and elegant and that is her acting style. European actors and actresses in general are ” less is more” when acting.

  19. Corrie says:

She’s a gorgeous girl, very insightful and eloquent and a great actress. Watch out young hollywood.

  20. Kiki says:

I have nothing against Alicia Vikander, except for the love od Humanity,if she could cut ties with LV and sign with Christian Dior; she will be fine. As for her and Fassbender, they broke up… Let’s leave it with that. Of course Fassbender will not comment and they will use any excuse to make this relationship to work for AV. Which of course, is sad. I think she can be a a gracious woman, but she need to lighten up and not take herself too serious. She will be more loved by her fans in no time. I do think she is a good actress.

  21. Nicky says:

They’re over, today there was an article on IE about the fashion show, totally PR driven from her side. It confirms she’s single and that she’s doing pretty fine. She already used him a lot, now she doesn’t need him anymore, not after the rave reviews she got at Venice and TIFF. Danish Girl won’t go anywhere on awards season because reviews are mixed but she’ll get her nod. So will Fassbender. But they will both lose.

  22. moon says:

have nothing against alicia, but wish to god her pr people would tone down the aggressive pr campaigns.

  23. Nude says:

I think she can act but I don’t know if she can get past the ingenue or supportive type roles and do other stuff like sci-fi and action. She needs to work out a bit if she does. She looks like a little girl and could pass for 14.
