Angelina Jolie did not collapse on the set of ‘Salt’, contrary to reports

There were rumors swirling the past week about an alleged incident that occurred with Angelina Jolie on the set of the thriller Salt. Somewhere, a “source” claimed that Angelina collapsed on set after doing a stunt. The tabloid reporting often brought in the bogus claims that Angelina was doing some of sort of extreme detox diet, trying to loose 21 pounds in 21 days. I skimmed the coverage of the alleged collapse, but didn’t think there was much to the claim. It was just one unnamed source who started the rumor, and it seemed like if Angelina really was having a physical problem on the set, there would be more verification from named sources on the Salt production.

Now a representative for Sony (who is producing Salt) is denying the collapse claims. US Magazine has the statement: “I can confirm that those rumors are in fact not true.” Yeah, that sounds right. Us has more:

Angelina Jolie didn’t collapse on the New York City set of Salt despite widespread internet reports, a movie rep tells Usmagazine.com.

“I can confirm that those rumors are in fact not true!” a rep from Sony, the studio behind the action-thriller, tells Us.

Now magazine reported earlier this week that filming “got too much for Angelina. She collapsed between takes, complaining of shortness of breath and dizzy spells.

“To be fair, it was after she’d filmed a strenuous scene in which she ran around the set, but it was still shocking to see her crumble…there was something very wrong with her fitness levels if she couldn’t handle a couple of action scenes,” the magazine continued.

Jolie — who plays Evelyn A. Salt, a rogue CIA operative trying to clear her name — appeared healthy on the Staten Island, New York set Tuesday, where she was photographed in a fur-trimmed poncho and matching Russian hat.

She’s been shooting since February in both Washington D.C. and New York, where she is temporarily living with beau Brad Pitt and their six kids.

The film — which costars Liev Schreiber as her supervisor in the CIA’s Russia office — opens in 2010.

I really hope this production wraps up soon. These rumors always get out of control when Angelina is filming. It makes you wish Angelina had a publicist – an actor with a publicist would have issued a denial within 24 hours of the “collapse” report being circulated. I’m sure a lot of people will still believe that Angelina did, in fact, collapse, because she’s so exhausted from adopting babies illegally, homewrecking, and plotting her next “refugee visit” stunt, or whatever her detractors are saying this week.

Well another lie bites the dust. Well there goes the lie about her “fake diet”. But haters want to and need to believe every crazy story written.

So glad the she and Brad don’t bother to deny all the lies. They just live their lives. Not that is the best way.

One more thing regarding the publicist. I really think a lot of the rumors surrounding Brad/Angie are done by other publicist. I mean neither has a PR team; regardless of what some want to believe. They are going against the established way things are done. Because now some publicist are worried that the stars they represent will want to follow suit. I mean if they are in the press good or bad, then that lets other celebs know that maybe they can let go of their PR people too. Most of them make a lot of money to deny these stories. Since Angie nor Brad care, well who really needs these people. Thus all the lies to maybe force them back into using a PR person. I have seen that guy Howard Brackman (?) say on more then one occasion that he wants to represent her especially. I think the have the right idea. Why pay that kind of money to stop lies that will soon go away, or that you don’t care about anyway.

@Debra – really, your ‘haters’ comment is kind of juvenile. They may not bother with every little lie that’s out there but just because they don’t employ PR does NOT mean that these two don’t manipulate with the best of them when they want to. And that’s not even a criticism, just a fact of celebrity life. You take this way too seriously.

And what is the name of this ‘rep’

  5. raven says:

debra, interesting point about the publicists. I’d never thought about it that way.

  6. SR says:

As if the ‘rep’ will tell us the truth – please, Angie is a saint to the loonies who will hear nothing of the sort

I love the “to be fair” part of the quote, those rags are so inventive in their quest to sound real. They needed to be fair to her in their story about her collapse, and the only way to do that was to admit the scene was physically intense.

The problem for her I think is that people want to believe the worse, so any story, no matter how unbelievable, can be put out there and picked up. The liquid diet thing was from one UK tab, was picked up by internet bloggers, and then regarded as truth. If you repeat a lie over and over does it become true? Think they have broken up, though. Neither have been looking too happy lately (since the Oscars). Hope they do the right thing (remain civil) for the kids sake.

  9. Anoneemouse says:

Why wouldn’t we believe it? She’s collapsed on every set for every film she’s ever made according to the media. I’m sure it’s because she’s pregnant….or fighting with Brad…or fighting with her Dad…or catching Brad with the nanny…or….insert your comment here.

What surprises me is how much total strangers care (positively or negatively) about them, their family, the rumours about them, their ex’s, etc.
As for not having a publicist…I know statements have been made on their behalf in the past…who makes them if they don’t use a PR company?
Also, while I respect Debra’s argument, I don’t think the other PR people are that worried…they just have to look at Britney, Chris Brown, Rhianna, Lindsay Lohan, etc, etc, to realize there will always be jobs for them to do!!!

I’m hoping Salt is a good movie. I had such high hopes for Wanted, especially after viewing the action pictures during production. But man, that movie was terrible!
