Dancing with the Stars alums Maksim Chmerkovskiy and Peta Murgatroyd are getting married, and Maksim popped the question in a big way. At the curtain call for their live stage show Sway: A Dance Trilogy in Miami, Maksim got down on one knee and proposed with a gorgeous, custom designed Cantamessa engagement ring. Maksim’s brother and fellow dancer Val Chmerkovskiy captured the moment and shared it on his Instagram page.
In front of the audience and the show’s cast, which includes Dancing pros and former competitors Rumer Willis and Meryl Davis, the 36-year-old, Ukranian-born dancer declared, “I’m not a man of words. But I’ll take this moment to be speechless, and I’ll just say that I’m in love with you. And I want to be in love with you for the rest of my life. And if you’ll have me, then I want you to be a part of mine.”
Peta, of course, said yes, and was more than happy to show off her bling at a post-show party and on the streets of Miami the next day. The 39-year-old beauty told Us Magazine, “I can’t tell you how happy I am. I was completely shocked. I’m just overwhelmed with it all right now.” Twitter was abuzz with well wishes for the happy couple from Rumer as well as Sharna Burness, Allison Hoker and Keo Motsepe.
There has been a lot of dancing on and off the dance floor for these two. Peta dated her Dancing colleague Damian Whitewood for 5 years and began dating Maksim in 2012. Maksim was engaged to DWTS pro Karina Smirnoff back in 2009. You can be sure there’s going to be one hell of a memorable first dance at this wedding reception! Congrats, Makism and Peta!

I thought she was 29 not 39. She looks amazing.
I think she is, but the Us Weekly story says 39. According to Wikipedia and every other source I’ve read, though, shes 29.
Oh, okay, because if she’s 39, I’d like to know what she’s eating/doing, so I can do the same thing!

I lost respect for him when he tried so hard with the “are we or aren’t we?” schtick with Meryl so that they could win. They didn’t need it, and it made him seem desperate and conniving. I didn’t realize until this year how much bigger a paycheck the winner gets.

She’s 39?! I mean, I guess when I look at her face properly, I realize she’s not the 23 year old I probably thought she was, but still….has she put out any work-out videos? I need to start using them! Oh, and what kind of multi-vitamins does she take? I”ve seen her on Dancing with the Stars, and she sure has a lot of energy (it was probably the energy level that made me think she was in her early 20s).

Why does Dancing with the Stars bother with those stupid showmances? I thought this lady was always flirting with her co-stars, but clearly her heart has probably always belonged to the Ukrainian dude.

Okay, maybe this makes me feel slightly better, even though I know she puts in a lot of dedication and work ethic (which I admire) to be that fit and fit-looking, regardless of how old she is (I don’t see girls in their early 20s either with bodies that fit). Whatever her age, she clearly has never let herself go in the body department.
29 does seem to make more sense given that her showmances on the Dancing with the Stars were always with guys in their 20s.
God help her if she hyphenates her name!

Well, this feels very authentic, and not at all catered to viewers who like romance.
Maks was never my favorite – I always thought his ego was out of control. But he looks good with Peta – happy and out of his own head. Good for them.
I’m against public proposals. I think they put too much pressure on the other person to say yes. Unless your s.o. has been hinting around about getting married, I wouldn’t recommend it.
Right?!?! Lordy, I always felt so much secondhand embarrassment for the women whose S.O. do that to them. Good grief, talk about pressure. “Um, yeah, I love you honey…but 25,000 people don’t need to see this!”
I thought Murgatroyd as a family name was a genius invention of Agatha Christie (A Murder Is Announced; The Case of the Caretaker).
Nope, apparently, it exists out there in the world. This is my takeaway from this story.
