Katie Holmes has a change of heart about another baby

Every week, Katie Holmes is one of two things, according to the tabloids: she’s either already knocked up, or she’s refusing to grant Tom his desire for another child. This week, In Touch has thrown us a curve ball by reporting that Katie was previously against the prospect of another child, but that she is now considering the possibility.

Katie Holmes was glowing as she had a late afternoon lunch with her daughter, Suri, at Cristoni Pizzeria in Beverly Hills. While Suri nibbled on pasta bolognese and a slice of cheese pizza, Katie chatted on her cell phone with a friend – and broke some very big news.

“She said, ‘I’ll be pregnant this year for sure,'” Sokol Aliaj, who was sitting next to Katie, tells In Touch. Then she said, “Tom can’t wait!”

Although a rep denies the story, as Tom and Katie prepare for Suri’s third birthday on April 18, they had double reason to celebrate. According to a close source, Katie couldn’t decide if she wanted to focus on her career or her family, but finally came to the conclusion that she was ready to add to their family.

“It’s like a huge weight has been lifted from Katie’s shoulders,” the source says. “She thought she would focus on acting for a few years, but she really loves being a mom.”

After Katie wed Tom in 2006, her career slowed a bit. But she recently completed a successful run on Broadway in All My Sons and was eager to keep up the momentum. She was so happy being onstage, an insider explains. Tom knew that Katie was excited about working on her new movie, The Extra Man, but he had a long talk with her and told her she might regret not being a stay-at-home mom someday. “He said acting will always be there for her some day, but she’d never get this time back,” the source adds. “And how awful it would be if she spends all her time working now that Suri’s at such a magical age. Suddenly, they’re older and they don’t need you anymore.”

[From In Touch print version, April 20, 2009]

“She thought she would focus on acting for a few years, but she really loves being a mom.” That quote is completely insulting. Did it ever occur to anyone that Katie could do both – have a family AND a career? I know it’s hard to believe, but other women who don’t have Katie’s money, lifestyle and support system do both all the time. And how about the idea of Tom laying on the “working mom” guilt trip? I really can’t think of a bigger douchebag move than making a devoted mom like Katie feel bad about deciding to work. Did Tom feel any guilt about not seeing his kids for months on end while he was globe-trotting to support “Valkyrie?” The double standard here makes me ill.

Anyway, you have to hand it to In Touch for this story – the detailed leak from a bystander is an especially nice touch. And if Katie doesn’t turn up pregnant this year, they can always turn around and say she changed her mind.

  1. Mommy says:

Tom lays on the mommy guilt to keep her under his control. When she was working on Broadway, he saw she had OTHER friends, non-freak-scientology-robot friends, so he had to pull out all the stops. Is HE working during this magical time of Suri’s life? Didn’t HE work the entire time his first two kids were growing up? Aren’t they still growing up? He didn’t want a wife in Katie, he wanted a nanny.

    I despise that short bastard.

  2. kiki says:

Do MOT feel sorry for the woman
she choose this life if it werent for Tom she would not be living the A-list life she would be doing a guest spot on CSI

  3. ChristinaT says:

that sounds made up… nobody has a conversation like that on the phone… and suri is so cute, i’m surprised she isn’t motivated to pop one out every year…

  4. OXA says:

Tommy must be dusting off the turkey baster.

  5. Because I Say So says:

The only people who are innocent in this family are the kids. Both parents are seriously screwed, and I don’t care how “devoted” you make Katie out to be, she’s harming her little girl with the isolation, media attention, and over-board school lessons. I seriously hope they don’t pro-create again because they’re sick people

  6. Bodhi says:

She can’t be an actress & be a mom; but thats because she can’t act

  7. Jess says:

Chris Klein must not be available this time around.

  8. photo jojo says:

    Tom is a nob.

  9. cherryblossom says:

Okay…hold on, before we all jump on the “Tom Cruise is a pig” bandwagon, this is In Touch we’re quoting here.
If they were right even half the time Tom and Katie would have been divorced about twelve times over, not to mention have about five kids.
I think that if you’re an actress it must be harder to be pregnant, because of the whole how you look thing. Anyway, just my opinion.

  10. Enonymous says:

Where is Tommy boy anyway? He seemed to be everywhere and now he is nowhere in sight. Don’t get me wrong, I am not complaining, just curious.

  11. Tia says:

DO YOU BLAME HER?? Everyone thinks Tom is a complete idiot and creepy person.

  12. czarina says:

It is interesting to hear who is having a child, and, after it is born, whether it is a boy or a girl, it’s name, etc. I guess because it is the one thing many people can relate to in the otherwise rich and famous lives of celebrities that are (for the majority of us) out of our experience.
However, I never sit around pondering when or if a celeb is pregnant, or planning to get pregnant in the near or far future.
I really don’t understand how anyone could care?

  13. Elanenergy says:

She has been doing both so don’t be so bitchy writer of this post. Geez, I’m a working mother and I don’t get as bitchy as SOME women do about other women’s choices. Lighten up.

  14. Bodhi says:

Um, the site is called CeleBITCHY for a reason…

  15. Ned says:

If she wants to get pregnant she will need to sleep with another man or do it artificially with a sperm donor.

There will be no additional children.

  16. Ned says:

Katie is the world’s n. 1 gold and fame digger.

She willingly subjected herself to such a life in order to revive her lost and dead career.

Katie married an older man, she can’t even stand, and is living a life of pretence 24/7.
Other gold-diggers don’t have millions of dollars and some of them did it due to extreme poverty.

  17. RaraAvis says:

She needs to learn better parenting skills. Maybe having another child will help. On the other hand, girlfriend looks beat down, doesn’t she?

  18. michellle says:

Not a fan of TC or KH, & completely respect a person’s right to choose career, parenting or both simultaneously.

Still, there’s a lot to be said for putting your career on hold while your children are young or at least in school, if you’re fortunate enough to have that option. Cliche’ or not, they grow so quick!

  19. anastasiabeaverhausen says:

I’m not completely convinced Suri is even his, but one thing’s for sure: this couple don’t need to be raising any other children. He’s a horrible control freak and she’s made her bed in this marriage. He freaks me out, so I’m glad he’s been missing lately.

  20. heh-heh says:

/Where is Tommy boy anyway? He seemed to be everywhere and now he is nowhere in sight./

He was out here in Asia promoting “Valkyrie,” complete with a helicopter painted with the movie’s name on the side.
    http://www.japan-zone.com/modern/pix/t/tom_cruise_valkyrie_helicopter.jpg
Cruise’s movies freuently open in Asia on the same day that they open in N. America, so I suspect he jumbles the grosses together and pass it off as bigger domestic box office.

  21. Kat says:

Maybe she will stop carrying Suri everywhere, and let her walk on her own two legs, if she does have another baby.

  22. Milk Bottle says:

I would like to see suri walk more. I just don’t think that she is that cute. Are dance lesson really that good of an idea, I mean how long can a 3 yr old concentrate for?

  23. geronimo says:

Suri probably gave them an ultimatum: provide me with someone I can have an intelligent conversation with or I’m off. Poor kid, stuck with this pair of half-wits.

  24. mel says:

I hope they have another one for the sake of Suri.

  25. raunnie says:

It would be interesting to see Tom Cruise with Octomom. He can afford to take on another wife and adopt a few kids; this way Suri would have some siblings to interact with. They could out Brangelina Brad$Angie and everyone would get all the attention they need.

  26. CH says:

…. As if KH would be having such a private conversation on her mobile phone in the middle of a busy restaurant?!
If somebody did overhear this then KH is winding the press up big time!

  27. Mandy says:

Right, CH! And if someone really did overhear such a conversation, isn’t it possible that Katie was just being sarcastic?

If they DO have another baby, Tom and Katie should definitely use the same sperm donor, because Suri is one of the cutest celeb kids. You can already tell that she’s going to be very pretty when she grows up. But let’s just hope she doesn’t make the same mistake her mom did. Katie used to be really beautiful in a natural, girl-next-door way, but she ruined that by trying to imitate Victoria Beckham.

  28. Aspen says:

Her lost and dead career? Her career was just taking off! She was about to go A-List all on her own before she started dating the sofa jumper.

HE is the one who killed her career. She turned down Dark Knight and several other projects at the beginning of their relationship at his urging.

She was doing fine until she jumped on the Tom train.

And I’ve never understood the hostility towards people who suggest staying home when the means are present until the kids begin school. I cannot imagine having done it any other way, and it was my choice. I’m so sick of women who would happily disembowel me for suggesting that THEIR choice to work full-time at a career while putting their infant children in daycare was wrong in some way…but who will happily jump on the bandwagon of people who insult what I have chosen to do with parenting by staying home with my kid.

I didn’t do it because my husband guilted me, and if he reminded me of my reasons for choosing to stay home, it wouldn’t be because he’s a controlling bastard. I left my job and education on hold so that I wouldn’t MISS any of her developmental years. That was my choice.

Seriously. This is 2009. Women should be able to CHOOSE how to parent…and expect that other women will, at least publicly, respect that choice. I don’t go around calling working mothers names or assuming that they have mean husbands who would call them worthless or devalue their contribution to the family if they weren’t bringing home a paycheck. Why is it okay for working moms to assume that I’m a puppet to my husband with no other purpose in life and no value to society? Moreover, why is it assumed that a husband who wants a wife to stay home and raise the kids is a bastard, but a husband who demands that his wife “earn her keep” and refuses to let her stay home with their babies if she wants to doesn’t raise any eyebrows?

Don’t assume that a very wealthy woman like Katie Holmes MUST be losing out on something if she and her husband value stay-home parenting (even if they are cult-following freaks).

  29. teresita says:

    Wow, so much hate….sad.

  30. Bodhi says:

Aspen, I totally agree! My husband & I don’t have kids (yet, heehe!) but when we do, I hope that I can stay at home, at least for a little while.

I’m so so sorry that some members of our society feel the need to denigrate stay-at-home mommas. I think its the hardest job in existence.
