Lauren Cohan of Walking Dead debuts short hair: what does this mean for Maggie?

Z100's iHeartRadio Jingle Ball 2015 - Red Carpet Arrivals
The lob has been very popular with celebrities this year, but I’m somewhat tired of seeing famous women cut a couple of inches off their ends and/or remove their extensions and act like it’s a big change. It is for them, and I get the attachment to hair as I still have my long security blanket hair, but it still looks like long hair and it still frames their face the same way. So I have higher hair standards for celebrities than I set for myself (I would be freaking out if I cut my hair more than two inches, kudos to Kaiser for getting a lob) and that’s why I consider it brave when celebrities cut their hair into radically different, much shorter cuts.

We recently saw Nashville’s Claire Bowen cut her too-long no doubt extension-filled hair into a very short pixie cut that was incredibly flattering. Bowen did this to highlight the issue of body image and childhood cancer, and she shared a touching story about how she survived nephroblastoma as a little girl.

Now Lauren Cohan of The Walking Dead has cut her hair into a gorgeous short pixie cut, as you can see above. Cohan debuted her look at the Z100 Jingle Ball in NY over the weekend. She went from shoulder length hair to this close cropped cut.

Speculative spoilers for Walking Dead follow
As US Weekly points out, many fans are speculating what this means for Cohan’s character, Maggie, who is pregnant on The Walking Dead with Glenn’s baby. Some people assume this means that Maggie is getting killed off this season. Here are some tweets that US posted along with some random ones I found.

Without being too revealing, Maggie isn’t the one we have to worry about, if producers are going by the comics. Maggie has short hair in the comics around this time, and this haircut could have any number of explanations. Cohan could wear a wig on the show in future episodes, her character might get her hair cropped on the show (there’s a hairdresser on Walking Dead who is still alive as of the last episode), and Maggie might have taken scissors to her hair for any number of reasons, not least of which would be the inability to take a shower if they have to abandon Alexandria. So this hair may or may not be for her character, who may or may not get axed this season. There’s no reason to freak out and worry about Maggie! As Claire Bowen posted, it’s just hair.

This is Lauren with long hair in October, she looks like a different person with makeup!
"The Walking Dead" Season Six Premiere

Here’s a nice post from Lauren on her work with God’s Love We Deliver. I know about this charity from Amanda Freitag on Chopped, it’s a NYC based service which delivers meals to people who are too sick to leave their homes or cook for themselves.

And this is Maggie with short hair from the comics. See, nothing to worry about! (When it comes to Maggie.)

Hopefully it means that everybody got eaten by zombies, the show got canceled and we can be put out of our hate-watch misery.

Oh my god yes. What happened? It started off so strong too…You know you’re having a bad season when your “peak” is the second episode and then it’s all downhill from there. It’s gotten so damn redundant and tedious. I will never understand how one show can be so inconsistent..like, it literally ranges from brilliantly terrifying and poignant to stale, cloying zombie soap opera from one episode to the next.

Also, I was only 15 minutes into last week’s episode and I already wanted all the kids to get eaten by walkers. Can they NOT find any better child actors? Or maybe it’s just terrible writing, maybe it’s not fair to blame the kids. Anyway, they’re probably the weakest characters on that show.

I want to strap CORAL down and shave his head off. Darryl would look cute with his greasy bangs pinned back with a Hello Kitty barrette.
This show could be so much better, and I hate what they’ve done to it. They all should have been eaten at the Sanctuary and called it good.

      • QQ says:

CORAL’s HAIR MY GOD! ( count a blessing that they stopped giving that boy Lines and a wide Berth)

      • Kitten says:

“Darryl would look cute with his greasy bangs pinned back with a Hello Kitty barrette.”

        lol

Yeah they should have quit while they were ahead but this is the difference between and AMC show and an HBO show. The writers of HBO dramas generally won’t go forward with a new season unless they’re very confident that they have more to say and that the story will remain compelling.
At this point, TWD is juggernaut for AMC and as long as they have the viewers, they’ll keep pushing this poop out of their constipated butt.

      • mimif says:

I should not be allowed on Twitter during TWD. I go next level troll and tweet things like, Glenn tastes so good rn, and then watch the stan tsunami commence.

      • epiphany says:

Too many boring human characters, bad storylines, not enough zombie carnage. It’s clear that Enid was supposed to be one of the Wolves, then they pulled back any potential ferocity by having her save Glenn. It would have been epic if Enid was behind the Alexandria massacre which occurred a few episodes ago, but no. they decided to make her whiny and ineffectual.

      • Kitten says:

You are an expert troll, mimif, this is true.

At this point the only character that I would genuinely be sad to lose is Michonne.
Don’t care if the rest become zombieburgers.

      • claire says:

I don’t know. It’s just dragging. I haven’t even finished watching the last few episodes because I’m just so bored of it all. I really can’t stand the dull speed with which all scenes Morgan move, for one.

    • QQ says:

THANKS, I hope this is the sign your friend Justin is waiting for to let me start watching Better shows ON TIME LOL

That said It makes her look like Kris Jenner after a fresh shower… which is NOT to say it’s a bad haircut, just that it ages her styled as is…. and I say this as the short hair queen, cheerleader and foremost apologist ( I can’t with her after seeing her in Talking Dead and realizing homegirl can barely string sentences together, she came off like like BIGGEST ding dong)

      • mimif says:

I need to know wtf is going on with her Brows of Pompei glamour pic. Is Greg Nicotero responsible for those too??

    • ashley says:

it’s so nice to know there’s a legion of hate watching fans out there, and it’s not just me. DITTO TO CORAL’S HAIR.
I’M YOUR MANE ADVOCATE CORAL. MAANNEE ADVOCATTEEE.

  2. Bettyrose says:

She’s even prettier with short hair, and I don’t say that lightly.

    • Sullivan says:

I agree. Now we can really see her pretty face.

    • Kitten says:

I noticed her hair growing out this past season and I thought it actually detracted from the beauty of her face. To me she’s like a Mariska Hargitay–they both look better with short hair.

But yes I agree that she is really stunning. Beautiful eyes and bone structure.

  3. Delta Juliet says:

I love short hair and I find her to be a very attractive woman, but I don’t find this hairstyle flattering on her at all.

    • Jag says:

      Agreed

I want someone who knows how to do makeup to help her when she dresses up for things. What happened to her brows?

  4. Norman Bates's Mother says:

It actually made me pretty sure she’ll live. The producers made other actors hide in their apartments for weeks not to spoil their characters’ faith – they wouldn’t let her run around spoiling everything if Maggie were meant to die. It was the same when Andrew Lincoln showed up at an event with a smooth face and shorter hair and everyone started speculating – and it was as simple as Jessie giving him a haircut.

    • Rachel says:

I’m wondering why this is a thing. Obviously they call time out during the zombie incursion for a slumber party where all the girls sit around gossiping about who they’d rather, and Jessie cuts Maggie’s hair. I only wish Carl was in on this little get together. Why does everyone get a haircut except Carl??? Cut the hair out of his face for the love of GOD!

  5. glitterplease says:

    Hair? Cute!
    Eyebrows? WTF.

  6. Redd says:

I think she had short hair when she started on Walking Dead? Maybe she just likes it. You have to have a really pretty face to pull off anything above the chin!

  7. Samihami says:

What a terrible haircut. She looked so much better with her hair longer. Hope she grows it out as quickly as she can.

  8. Linn says:

She looks very different with the shorter hair but just as beautiful.

  9. so with longer hair…. DAMN she looks like someone Bogart would TOTALLY date….. she looks like…. wow took my breath away.

  10. DesertReal says:

No one thinks her character might have done it because Glen still might die. Interesting.

  11. FLORC says:

Maggie lives longer than Glenn. Glenn’s time unfortunately is coming if we go by the original story line. And with Negen now introduced it’s safe to assume he’s alive for now.
I don’t think her hair is a big deal.
