Kit Harington says words, lies: ‘All I can tell you is Jon Snow is dead’

wenn23420397

Kit Harington has been having a busy week and he’s been saying many, many words. Kit’s been out and about in London this week to promote his turn on the London West End stage in Doctor Faustus. Earlier this week, Kit appeared on the BBC’s Big Breakfast and instead of being asked a million questions about Faustus, he was asked a million questions about Game of Thrones, Jon Snow and whether Jon is really dead. Kit tried to stay on-message and it was still sort of funny. He told the BBC:

“I think anyone who wants to know what happens in season six has to wait until it comes out. All I can tell you is Jon Snow is dead. He died at the end of last season…. It’s going to be an exciting season. So I’m led to believe.”

[From E! News]

Then Kit sat down with Digital Spy, once again to promote Faustus, I’m assuming. But the questions were still about Jon Snow. Once again, Kit says Jon is “DEAD” and:

“I was hoping that there would be an outcry of ‘why?’ and ‘oh god, no, no’ rather than ‘thank god’. That was the right reaction as far as I was concerned! People didn’t want me to die, but he’s dead. So there you go, everyone has to get used to it… I haven’t done Thrones in a while. I had quite a lot of time off last year. I’ve been taking it easy. And relaxing. When I realised I was doing this, I had a few months to prepare for it, and something like this takes some working through before even getting into the rehearsal room.”

[From Digital Spy]

I know he probably has contractual obligations about what he can and can not reveal, but this is getting silly. We’ve seen photos of him on set in Northern Ireland for months. He was in and around Belfast for MONTHS filming Season 6, and now he’s pretending like he was barely there? Also, note that Kit still has his Jon Snow hair. So… liar liar Night’s Watch cloak on fire.

I think he’s telling the truth in that Jon Snow is dead. However maybe Jon Targaryen lives.

    • AntiSocialButterfly says:

Yes, he is playing a game of semantics. Agreed 100%.

    • M.A.F. says:

Yep. The boy is dead but the man is alive.

    • Lizzie McGuire says:

Yeah, poor guy he’s trying to promote his other project at least he’s being a good sport about it. I’m 99% sure that Jon Snow is dead, I don’t think he’s lying about it but he can’t say anything he has a contract.

      • ell says:

tbf, the whole cast had to dodge the “is jon snow alive?” questions while promoting other projects. when gwen christie was doing interviews for star wars she was asked nearly everytime. at least for kit it’s relevant since jon snow is his character, for the rest of the cast not quite.

    • LadyMTL says:

Or now he’s just “undead” or resurrected or what have you. As we’ve seen before in GoT, death isn’t always the end of the journey. 😛

Needless to say, I am very excited for the new season.

    • Cheryl says:

Of course Jon’s dead. He HAS to be dead!

How else is he going to get out of his life contract with the Night’s Watch?

His watch is over you traitorous sons of bitches… have fun with the Night King. Jon will be taking Torrrmund, the Free Folk, his wolf, Longclaw and Dolorous Edd.

    • epiphany says:

There’s no maybe about it. Harington isn’t lying; Jon SNOW is dead. Jon TARGARYEN is very much alive, and the true King of Westeros. Harington happens to play both characters, so he is still on the show. Funny how every interviewer is directed to ask him. “is Jon Snow dead?”, rather than, “Kit, are you still on the show?”

    • Goodnight says:

He’s not Jon Targaryen, though? Even if R+L=J is true (which it almost certainly is), R was married to Elia and Jon would be a bastard and thus not carry the name. The story is all about Jon’s identity as a blood Stark. If anything you could say ‘Jon Snow is dead but Jon Stark is alive’.
Jon’s longing to be a Stark is a major, recurring theme in his story so it would a bit weird to me if he found out he was a Stark by blood but chose to identify with his Targaryen blood instead.

Also, how is he the rightful king of Westeros? There are a lot of complex issues on the show now that the legitimate line of Baratheons has been extinguished (leading to it being unclear who is the real heir to the throne now, since the current royals are illegitimate), but the one thing that is very clear and set in stone is that the Targaryens lost their rule via right of conquest so they’re not the heirs to their throne. Dany isn’t even an heir, let alone the illegitimate Jon.

Not trying to be rude, I just don’t understand why people think Jon would identify strongly as a Targaryen when he finds out R+L=J, or why people think Jon is the rightful king. I’d like to understand their reasoning.

Obviously he’s dead but he’s coming back one way or another. There’s no doubt about it.

  2. CornyBlue says:

Damn! Just when i thought his acting could not be any weaker than it was on GoT he pulls this shit.

  3. Aussie girl says:

liar liar Night’s Watch cloak on fire. Ha!!! Gold!!

    • Laura says:

      Agreed! Love that line!!

    • Hejhej says:

I’m still laughing at that line 😀

As for Jon Snow – I am sure he is dead, just as I am sure he won’t stay dead. They should ask the poor man that instead.

    • Sayrah says:

That was a good one! But he won’t be on the nights watch since Jon Snow was killed by all of them. He will be reborn and resurrected by melisandre and come to know that he is actually Jon Targaryen and therefore free of Jon Snow’s obligation to the nights watch.

I have no idea if I’m even close to being correct though …

    • Susiecue says:

      Lol agreed

  4. Jenns says:

I hope he makes an appearance in the trailer so we can stop this once and for all.

  5. Vanessa says:

Well, I think I’m hoping for the leading theory in that, technically, Jon Snow is dead. But Melissandra will be involved in bringing in him back in some form.

  6. Liv says:

Haha! Yes, he died and was dead, but he probably gets resurrected by Melisandre!

Liar, liar Night’s Watch cloak on fire! is cracking me up! 😀

  7. Tw says:

GOT, you in danger girl (if Jon Snow is dead).

  8. Betti says:

I agree Jon SNOW is dead however Jon Targaryn/Stark……

  9. mom2two says:

I don’t envy him having to answer this question over and over again. However, Jon Snow is dead. What form the body of Jon Snow returns as, is a whole another matter.
@CornyBlue, I agree that I just don’t like his acting on GoT. Hope he does well on stage. He got his start there.

  10. Lindy79 says:

I dont mind this, its distracting people from asking if The Hound is going to be back in S6

  11. Jane says:

Thanks for the spoiler in the title. Just got HBONOW and began the series. I try to avoid articles, but no avoiding that.

    • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

Well, it has been on for several years. You can’t really blame them for mentioning it. What are they supposed to do, never mention anything from the last season in case someone just started watching it? That’s an unreasonable expectation.

    • Nope says:

Its been nearly a year since this storyline happened. You can’t really cry about spoilers when you’re literally years behind.
The title could have been a little less in your face though, agreed.

    • Sayrah says:

Certainly this isn’t the first time you’ve heard about Jon Snow’s “death.” It’s been discussed all over since last summer. Plus now you have come on the thread and could see other spoilers.

  12. ab says:

but what is he supposed to say? he knows we know, but he’s obviously under some sort of gag order, he’s not allowed to talk about it.

  13. Jess says:

I’m sure he’s not technically lying, remember we saw the red woman come swooping in on her horse before he was stabbed, I’m sure she’ll resurrect his ass somehow. She better, but I can’t stand her. I’m so ready for this season!!!

    • tracking says:

Yes, this is exactly my thought as well. That beyotch Melisandre will bring him back.

      • Jess says:

Yes Melisandre! I couldn’t remember her actual name and was too lazy to google, thank you😄 She follows the power, so I’m hoping that means Jon will rise and we’ll finally learn more about his mother. I could just be in denial about his death though!

      • tracking says:

I think this was foreshadowed in their interactions, and Melisandre is all about king’s blood. She’ll be all over him like a cheap suit (and already has been).

  14. Josefina says:

I hope he’s dead and that he doesn’t come back in any shape or form. People die in real life and people particularly die in this series. I know the clues were there for a reason but I’d be SO pissed off if he comes back. It’d be such sloppy fanservice. And since when do people like Jon Snow so much anyway? Didn’t we all agree he was en emo whiner?

    • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

      I did. Whiny pants.

    • Soprana says:

He was an emo whiner, yeah, but he was clearly being built up. From the heavy foreshadowing of his parentage (he is quite literally the song of ice and fire) to his being the viewpoint to the threat of the others, to the fact that he’s survived this long…to kill him off so randomly would just be bad writing.

Also, GRRM has said “oh you think he’s dead do you?” Even he is not that much of a troll

    • CK says:

Jon, imo, was the third most unbearable Stark. The other two, Robb and Catelyn, are already dead.

    • Goodnight says:

I think Kit is the reason Jon seems to petulant and emo in the show. In the books Jon always came across as totally different person to me, a person who Kit’s Jon does not resemble.

It didn’t come across as fan service to me in the books, but it DOES cheapen death for me. When I first started reading the series I dreaded continuing at times because I didn’t want yet another beloved character to die. After we see multiple instances of people literally rising from the dead in the books, death no longer holds that dread and shock for me. and that’s such a shame.

In the show it feels like fan service a lot more, even though I know they’re just following the story from the books.

  15. Lilacflowers says:

Jon Snow is as dead as Beric Dondarion.

    HODOR!
    WunWun!
    Dragon!
    CROQUEMBOUCHE!
    I f’ing hate Thenns!

  16. Nancy says:

Of course he’s under contract and is lying his ass off. I think Jon Snow has the prettiest face on the entire show and watching him die made me as sad that day as dropping and breaking my coffee pot…..it was a close call, but Jon Snow’s death won. He’ll be back, watch and see.

    • Sayrah says:

I was sad but I still don’t think I’ve recovered from Ned Stark’s death.

      • Nancy says:

Sayrah: My husband loves this show and we just watched the last episode AGAIN over the weekend, so that last scene is fresh on my mind. So is breaking my coffee pot, but that has been replaced, but will my Jon Snow be as well? Yes my heart aches for Ned as well. They are so mean to end seasons with such loss, how dare they!

      • Jess says:

Agreed on Ned’s death, by far the most shocking and hurtful scene in my opinion, followed by soooo many sad scenes for the Stark’s. I hope they finally get their revenge, for crying out loud something good has to happen for them eventually.

  17. sherry says:

Lies! He sits on an iron throne of lies!!!!

  18. Nope says:

So, a good friend of mine comes from the little town in Northern Ireland where they film GoT. They’ve even built part of the wall and you can see it from miles around; its amazing. Because the town is so small, most of the young people who live there work on the set as extras/doubles etc. Jon (insert surname here) isnt dead. Kit has been on set for the whole filming period and has a major storyline. And its goooooooood.

  19. ell says:

as a book reader, it’s not a lie; jon snow is most likely dead.

  20. Cindy says:

He looks so grumpity in that photo. He’s cute when he’s mad. 🙂

    • Betti says:

Bless, he seems to have a grumpy resting b!tch face. It must be quite boring when you’re trying to shill your new gig as Dr Faustus when all people want to know is ‘Is Jon Snow really dead?’. I can just imagine all the GoT fans buying tickets to or stalking the stage door. I might try and get cheap tickets to see it as its being directed by Jamie Lloyd who i love.

  21. Kori says:

It’s absolutely semantics. Jon Snow ‘died’ but it’s no coincidence that Melisandre arrived just as the event was occuring. You have to die in order to be brought back–as the character from the Brotherhood Without Banners was (multiple times). I think that’s where they’re going with Jon. I just hope he ditches those ungrateful arses at the Wall and leaves them to the White Walkers without a glance backwards.

  22. Christine says:

He’s dead but gets resurrected! You just know he’s going to be all smug about it afterwards like he pulled a fast one. I don’t even know why they’re trying to keep it secret lol.

  23. jesb says:

Or he’s a white walker now.

  24. Anna says:

I haven’t read the books and have no source other than common sense but I mean… hello? Isn’t it obvious that Melisandre is going to resurrect him with blood magic??

    • Goodnight says:

Blood magic or favor from the Lord of Light (ie whatever brought Dondarrion back 6 times), whichever. I’d be shocked if Mel isn’t involved.

If she does use the lord of light method as opposed to dark/blood magic, I think Jon will be whole. Beric lost a piece of himself with each resurrection, but the books make it clear that when wargs like Jon die their soul immediately transfers to the animal they have the strongest bond with, where it remains in tact for some time and then merges with the host animal’s soul until the two are indistinguishable.

I think Jon will come back whole because his spirit has been kept in tact inside Ghost, but that’s just a theory. Mel is a bit of a hack, so I wouldn’t put it past her to ass it up. I don’t think she has the Lord of Light’s favor the way Thoros did. if, you know, that was even ‘the Lord of Light’ behind those resurrections.
