I don’t even care, I’m openly obsessed with Mariah Carey’s giant engagement ring. James Packer proposed to Mariah more than a week ago, and he did so with a 35-carat diamond ring that cost more than $10 million, apparently. Before now, the only real look we had at the ring was just after the proposal, when Mariah did a ring-flash to the paparazzi as she was getting into the car. But Mariah and James came out for the G’Day Los Angeles Gala last night, and of course Mimi wore a simple black gown… the best background for her ring. I’m including the close-ups of the ring at the end of the post. It is spectacular.
As we discussed yesterday, sources tell People Magazine that Mariah has never been happier, that she’s finally found a guy who will treat her like a princess and buy her lots of stuff. Aussie sites claim that Packer and Carey are planning a move to LA, or at least they’ll have some kind of base in LA (Mariah’s long-time base has been in NYC). Packer is renting a huge mansion in Calabasas, in the gated community The Oaks, which is where several Kardashians live. There are also rumors that Packer and Mimi are already planning for their wedding, despite the fact that neither of them has finalized their divorce. Allegedly, Mariah has agreed to a big Australian wedding, which… sure, I’ll buy that ONE of their weddings will go down in Australia. But Mimi will also have a wedding in America, I’m absolutely sure.

I’m manicure obsessed and those nails are no bueno. You know who has perfect nails? Sofia Vergara. A manicure needs to fit the hands too, not just your taste. All I can say is let’s be thankful she didn’t go French with this. … I may be too invested in this topic.
The ring, to me, looks so tacky. Sorry, I can’t get on board with massive diamonds. Especially not this cut. There’s nothing elegant about it, it just screams LOOK WHAT HE CAN BUY ME! But that’s probably the point here. She looks happy though. With a hint of smug.
It looks like she got a gel manicure (possibly the same one she had during the big ring reveal and possibly over acrylic) and it’s started growing out and she just added sparkle glitter to it. (to “freshen it up” don’t you know?)
The other day I was suddenly like “Packer picked that ring!” The other ring that Mariah had when she was married to Nick is one that SHE picked. With the pink diamond and the half moons that became trillions and then the diamonds all around. This more subtle thing, though larger, is not her doing.
The glitter that just appeared on her nails makes me certain of this.
I can’t get real excited about these two until they divorce their current spouses.

Seriously! I’m amazed at how bad her manicure is! I don’t have fake nails and don’t even wear nail polish, but even I made sure my nails looked nice when I first got engaged and started wearing my ring.
And, I think her ring is AWFUL. Sometimes bigger is NOT better. It looks fake to me. Like, I have a $5 keychain that’s a giant fake engagement ring (I got it in a bridesmaid swag bag) and that’s pretty much exactly what Mimi’s ring looks like. And does one seriously wear a 10 million dollar ring every day? To the grocery store? To bed? Just lounging about? Stoopid.
If I had the chance. Can you imagine the lifestyle that you’d need to wear that ring every day? I wouldn’t say you’d be doing your own guttering or poling the septic tank.

It’s awful, but that’s the most surprising part of all of this. If she wanted to keep that style, just get the same color and sparkles when you get them filled.

Mariah looks good but her face is much fuller now. Fillers maybe? I’m happy that she and James are happy but I don’t really think they’ll get married. Nor should they. Just enjoy each others company as is. If it ain’t broke don’t fix it. But it’s their choice to make not mine.

All I can think when I see that ring — ok, not all, but after thinking about Flint, MI and all of the starving and struggling people around the world — is that now she’s not only going to need people to carry her around, she’ll need to have a specially trained (and insured) person to just lift her left hand to prevent her from having to bear the weight. Maybe that person can cross-train and be her sipping straw holder….because, although I’ve never seen it, I *know* she’s got a pink, sparkly straw with butterflies in diamond crust that she must use to sip all of her beverages–with pinky finger extended. With a sipping straw holder person, she won’t have to deal with lifting her pinky finger. Whew, problem solved.

Psychologically, I can never buy the idea that something the size of an ice cube is really diamond. My eyes just glide off it, assuming it’s a pretty bit of glass.
Someone mentioned in an earlier post and after some exhaustive (I googled it) research I would say this was either made to look like or is the Krupp diamond – the double prongs look the same but could be necessary for the diamond weight…

I hope James can pull her feet to the ground somewhat. offering Mariah an emotional stability she needs. The ring is ostentatious, yet I wouldn’t expect anything less from how wealthy both parties are. Yeah you could feed the world on that cash but whose to say they don’t give more to charities?? It is an investment piece very nice it is too.

THAT is a diamond. As many have pointed out, it’s not only about the size, it’s most definitelly not. It’s about the quality of the stone. Clarity (transparency), color and the cut. This beautiful piece in Mariah’s hand is worth every cent. Now, that buble gum “gemstone” on Aniston’s ring (and I am an Aniston apologizer) only has the size. That thing can’t be called a “brilliant”, so milk it is. It looks like bad plastic. Seriously, I so wish I could say Aniston’s stone is a piece of glass, at least. Glass looks cleaner and much better though. I understand Mariah showing this off every minute of the day. I now I would!

It’s just not cool anymore in these times. You know what’s cool if you get a ring like that? Wear it around for a few days with all your finest, get it out of your system and then say, “That was fun.” Then sell the thing and open a few women’s shelters or accessible rehab centers, or fund orphanages with it.
