I’m not sure how James Corden’s late-night show is doing overall, but American audiences have really, really embraced his Carpool Karaoke. It’s a consistently great bit, and he keeps bringing in interesting musical talent to play. I still cry watching the Stevie Wonder one (Wonder calls Corden’s wife to sing to her), and I still laugh hysterically at the Adele one. Anyway, Corden’s latest Carpool Karaoke episode was with Jennifer Lopez. I know J.Lo isn’t the most popular person around here, but I still f—king love her. I’m a ‘90s girl, and J.Lo was SO important in the ‘90s and early ‘00s. Maybe she’s still important, but she was absolutely crazy-famous back then. This episode is basically everything I would have hoped for from J.Lo. She’s funny, she’s confessional, and she seems like a cool person. Here’s the full video:
Ordinarily, I would have just included this in the links or something, but Jennifer dropped a blind item in the middle of the episode. She and James were talking about her engagements and marriages, and J.Lo revealed something new. First, the background – she’s been married three times, to Ojani Noa, Cris Judd and Marc Anthony. She was also notably engaged to Ben Affleck, as in he gave her a giant pink diamond and she said yes. But here’s what Jennifer says now:
“I’ve had some amazing proposals. I don’t want to compare one to the other. They were all pretty spectacular. They were nice. And then there’s some that asked me to marry them and I said no. I’ve been married three times. I’ve been proposed to five times.”
So… who proposed to her and she said no? I think she’s miscounting, by the way. I think she’s had more than five proposals, especially if she’s said no to “some” of the proposals. I think – really, genuinely believe – that Casper Smart has proposed to her in some way. Maybe not with a ring in hand, but I believe that they’ve talked about getting married. I also think Puffy probably proposed, don’t you? And who else? There was probably someone else in the early days, don’t you think?

So funny, Corden text to Leo was great and Leo’s reply was hilarious! I hope Leo has a sense of humor about the whole thing. He seems so self-serious most of the time.

Ben Affleck proposed. They went on a media tour about it. Pink diamond worth millions, something about a house being filled with rose petal carpet and candles everywhere as the proposal setting.

Yeah. And I think I remember she said he had his mother set up the house for him while they were out. Ben lost his mind over J-LO in the beginning he was so crazy about her. He was over the moon in love with her. But eventually that cold shadow Ben casts hit J-LO too that Jen G talked about.

I’m almost 43 and have never been married but have lived with three different people. The most romantic (spontaneous) proposal came from Dude #2 who drunkenly proposed we get our tongues pierced and get married down at the Courthouse. Luckily sobriety won over and we never did either. I’m better off alone.

I was so sad when Craig left (his new show is great!) that I haven’t watched James Cordon’s show. I do enjoy the carpool karaoke though. I’m stunned JLo did it, I’ve never thought of her as a stronger singer at all. I can’t watch the video at the moment – how did she sound?

I like her even if I’m not the biggest fan of her music genre. She is a very tough hard worker…I actually think she’s a very good symbol for girl power! Love me some Jenny from the block. I think she’s beautiful, is talented overall (yes, good singer and actress, spectacular entertainer, performer, dancer)… She’s someone to look up to, for inspiration.

I used to sort of dislike her but she has won me over the years. She is proud of her heritage and she actually made the effort of learning Spanish. I adored her Celia Cruz tribute at the AMA’s and she comes across as really likable in her interviews.
When has she ever said that she made the effort to learn Spanish? I’ve heard her speak in Spanish, and she speaks it just like I do: as someone who grew up speaking it at home.
I thought she said that she grew up only/mostly speaking English so she had to learn Spanish fluently when she made that movie with Marc Anthony?

I really disliked her in the past. Remember all the stuff about how ridiculous her rider was? And there was a story at the height of her fame about how she was asked to do an appearance for a charity, but her demands for the private jet to take her there and all the diptyqe candles she requires in her dressing room, etc., were so outrageously expensive that the administer of the charity event told her “never mind”. I also remember reading that she used La Mer face cream (back then it was like $500 for a jar) as body cream. I just don’t think she’s a talented singer and the lyrics I always thought were stupid. But she has grown on me. I think she’s a bit more down to earth these days. I’d like to know her skin secrets!

Instead she got really lucky. On rebound she quckly married a guy that always wanted her. That marriage wasn’t good, but she lasted it out as long as she could out of embarrassment of yet another divorce.
Now she’s with a toy-boy who should be so lucky to be with someone as gorgeous and talented as J-LO but was caught cheating with a transsexual and texting another one and she only pretended to break up with him for a while to save face, but they have always been together and still are.
Whoa, J-LO did so much better. Not. LOL Her personal life has been just as much a mess post-Ben.

Marc was easy to figure out. She wanted to be with someone that wanted her more than anything. She wanted to be the first choice.
I love that Lopez is a star in that Elizabeth Taylor way. Everything about her lifestyle is over the top. You know that earring she dropped probably cost as much as the car.
I also wish the Jennifer Lopez you see in that video was the one who was in her movies. Besides OUT OF SIGHT, I find her to be a bit self-conscious as an actress, especially in her comedies where she usually tries too hard. But here she’s utterly charming.
She was excellent in An Unfinished Life and that Nicholson movie-Blood & Roses, I think.
I don’t get her appeal.
