Chrissy Teigen & John Legend welcomed baby girl Luna Simone Stephens

It felt like Chrissy Teigen’s pregnancy lasted for years, but that was probably because it was her first pregnancy and she was super-excited about it and talked about it constantly. Well, Chrissy’s pregnancy overshare is done now. Bring on the new-mother overshare! Chrissy and John Legend welcomed their daughter this weekend, a little Aries baby named Luna Simone Stephens. I guess I forgot that Legend’s real name is John Stephens. Chrissy posted this Instagram:

She's here! Luna Simone Stephens, we are so in love with you! And sleepy. Very sleepy. ❤️👶🏽😍

The name Luna made CB think of the Harry Potter character Luna Lovegood, but it made me think of the book Eva Luna by Isabel Allende (I used to read a lot of Allende!). Moon-related names are pretty popular these days, and my real name is a Sanskrit name with a lunar meaning too. So… I sort of like moon-names. I’ve also noticed that a lot of celebrities are doing references to Nina Simone with their baby names, but usually it’s with the name Nina, not Simone. So Simone feels different. Yeah… I sort of like the whole baby name. They’re better at baby-naming than I was expecting. Congrats to Chrissy and John!

Who named their baby Nina? Nina and Simone are really fitting contemporary baby names anyways. We have one of each in our young kids close friends circle and have met others , I’ve never realized that could be a reference to Nina Simone , my first thought was Simone de bouvior
    LOVE the name Luna Simone
    .

  2. Mimz says:

I love the name. After she said something about sharing the name with Obama, and about it being a celebrity name, I was scared to hear something like Pepper Amy Sunshine or whatever. I love the name Luna as well, and I think it goes very well with Simone. I like the whole name, it sounds good!

  3. GoodNamesAllTaken says:

Why is there a General Electric logo on their baby announcement? I don’t love Luna, but Luna Simone is pretty. Congrats.

    • Jen43 says:

I had to scroll up to notice that. WTF? It’s a baby announcement. Have some integrity for the baby’s sake.

    • Veronica says:

It’s just a hospital monitor. I’m sure they’re not shilling the baby out…yet.

    • GiGi says:

That’s on a hospital monitor. Likely one made by GE.

    • Goats on the Roof says:

GE’s healthcare division makes medical devices as well as EHR platforms. The hospital I work for uses one.

    • Fran says:

That’s the scale used to weigh all newborn babies at the hospital. We always offer to take pictures of the scale monitor for the new parents as a fun documentation.

      Calm it down sister.

    • Jen43 says:

Haha I do feel better. My youngest is 10, and I’ve never seen that before.

    • Melca.blue says:

edited for giving the same answers as the rest, there were no comments, hit publish, all the comments

    • Wiffie says:

It’s the scale at the hospital. You can see it’s on a screen. Made by GE.

    • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

Lol, thank you everybody. I was certain it wasn’t an ad, but I couldn’t figure out what it was.

  4. Nancy says:

They love the name Luna, it reminds me of lunatic. Simone is very pretty, but it’s their baby girl!

  5. Mgsota says:

    Isn’t Luna one of Uma Thurman’s daughter’s 10 names?

I like the name but it reminds me of a Siberian Husky, cuz I knew one named Luna.

    Congrats to them!

    • Nancy says:

Mgsota: Lol. I knew a girl in high school from Russia whose name was Luba. That’s what this name reminds me of. I’m always name associating, not such a good thing.

    • sequinedheart says:

Name associations were super hard to get past when I had my daughter because I was a school teacher :-/
When I was pregnant, I thought of Luna, but immediately thought LUNATIC!!! haha
However, as far as Hollywood baby names go, it’s way less pretentious and far prettier than many others.

  6. Jayna says:

Luna is nice . I think Simone would have been gorgeous for the first name she would go by.

It’s far better than a lot of other names given for celebrity children.

    • Meandyou says:

As the mother of a 2 yr old Simone I agree:)

Our daughter was also named after Nina but also because we both loved the name so much.

I don’t care too much for Luna but it flows with Simone. Congrats to the couple. I quite like her opinionated self. He’s okay too.

  7. Lucy2 says:

    Pretty name, congrats to them.

  8. OTHER RENEE says:

Luna Simone is very pretty. But after the birth frenzy, no one will ever refer to her middle name and it will be Luna Stephens from there on out.

    • Esmom says:

I know a few people who use their first and middle names as their first name — i.e. Mary Ellen, Jean Luc. So it could stick, if they decide they want it to. Luna Simone flows nicely.

  9. Erinn says:

I always think of like… a cat name when I think of Luna. There are so many dogs and cats named Luna haha.

I do like Luna Simone though – it goes together really nicely.

  10. Locke Lamora says:

Luna is a really common pet name in my neck of the woods. I had a german shepherd named Luna. And the cat from Sailor Moon is Luna.

Legend is not his real name? It’s quite pretentious to call yourself Legend.

    • Mimz says:

It’s a stage name – those are supposed to be memorable , have a nice ring to it and probably slightly pretentious. And probably a good choice of his, to have such a memorable name.
We see Queen Latifah – whose real name is Dana Owens and most of us love to refer to her as “Queen” – because she is amazing. But isn’t that “pretentious” to call herself a queen?
      -_- People love to nitpick

      • Colette says:

Alicia Cook changed her name Alicia Keyes to highlight her piano playing skills.I guess she is pretentious, also.
John didn’t come up with the name Legend.A poet named J. Ivey started calling him that because his music had an”old school sound”.Then other started calling him John Legend. Many artists got their stage names from nicknames people called them like Sting,Baby face, etc

      • Locke Lamora says:

I think Lagend is more pretentious than Queen or Keys. Maybe my perception is coloured by the fact that I find both of them extremely annoying.

      • Mimz says:

Yes LockeLamora unfortunately when we don’t like someone (especially celebrities) we tend to find things to get annoyed at.
It’s a nickname, it’s not like He’s Kanye and calling himself Yeezus or another Religious – themed nickname. Because I do find Yeezus an especially pretentious/bordeline offensive nickname.
But hey I don’t like Kanye so, what do I know?

  11. missmerry says:

i love the name Luna. I’m crazy about the moon anyways, but my great-grandmothers name was Luna, so it makes me like it even more.

Simone is a pretty name too. I have a coworker whos young daughters name is Simone and it always sounds so pretty when said aloud.

  12. The Original Mia says:

Love the name. Very happy for them.

  13. shutterbug99 says:

    I love the name!

Luna is very pretty – it always reminds me of the Smashing Pumpkins song of the same name. 🙂

  14. vanessa says:

Congrats to Chrissy and John, that’s a lovely name

  15. kri says:

Congrats. I really like the name, too.

  16. Magnoliarose says:

Luna Simone is pretty. I wish them well. La bella Luna.

  17. Sarah01 says:

Love Luna, it’s so pretty and simple. Nothing pretentious about it like some of the other baby names you hear.

  18. Colette says:

I am curious why people think her name has anything to do with Nina Simone. My cousin is named Simone and her parents had never even heard of Nina Simone.I remember when people thought Wyclef Jean’s daughter,Angelina was named after Angelina Jolie. She wasn’t.

  19. Lucy says:

Congrats!! Lovely name. That will be one beloved baby girl!!

  20. OhDear says:

    Aw, congrats to them!

  21. Mel M says:

I’m surprised at how much I like the name they picked. I thought for sure they would go all Holleywood nutso but I’m glad they didn’t. My first born has a similar meaning as Luna and I hear the name Simone a lot since a lot of people mispronounce my sons name and call him that lol.

  22. Lady D says:

It makes me think of Luna Lovegood from Harry Potter.
    Love the name Simone.

  23. what's inside says:

Happy little family. Warms my heart.
