Elin Nordegren & Lindsey Vonn kept apart by organizers at Kentucky Derby

I know this story won’t get a lot of interest, but I can’t tell you how happy it makes me to see Elin Nordegren, Tiger Woods’ ex, at an event. It’s been years since we’ve even had paparazzi photos of her and as far as I know she has never gone to a photographed red carpet event solo. (I mean it’s possible she’s done that but I haven’t seen photos of it.) Elin went to the Kentucky Derby over the weekend, where she was photographed in a clingy off the shoulder yellow Alexander McQueen dress paired with a jaunty white hat with a giant rose and veil. Also at the event? Tiger’s other ex, Lindsey Vonn, who was much less occasion-appropriate in a deep v-neck silk shirt and wide sequin pants. (I’m not saying that Lindsey looked ridiculous, just that she was try hard while Elin’s outfit was cuter.)

According to sources who spoke to Page Six, these two didn’t bond over their mutual stupidity at getting romantically involved with Tiger, they were deliberately kept apart by organizers to make sure there was no scene. This doesn’t jibe with what we’ve heard about how they get along, although Tiger did gush about Elin after his breakup with Lindsey so there may be hard feelings there. I wonder who requested this.

While Nordegren and Vonn have been friendly in the past, party organizers were instructed not to seat the Olympic skier anywhere near the former Mrs. Woods, we hear.

The pair crossed paths a night before the big race at Friday’s Barnstable Brown Foundation Gala, which was also attended by Kate Upton, Jon Voight and Megyn Kelly.

We’re told Swedish beauty Nordegren, who divorced Woods in 2010 after his myriad affairs were uncovered, then headed to breeder Black Rock Thoroughbreds’ Fillies & Stallions party to join guests including Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers and singer Joey Fatone, with Vonn arriving not far behind.

“The staff was being told over a walkie-talkie that Lindsey was on her way over and must be put in a different area from Elin,” said a source. “They were very clear about that.”

Vonn — who dated the golf superstar from March 2013 until May 2015 — had problems getting into the event because she had been issued the wrong wristband. But once inside, we’re told she sat with girlfriends in a separate VIP area, well away from the mother of Woods’ two children, Sam and Charlie.

According to insiders, former gold medalist Vonn was also very insistent that she didn’t want photographers to take her picture at the fête.

We’re told the two women have a complicated relationship. “Elin really liked Lindsey because the kids really liked her,” said a source close to Nordegren, adding that if Vonn wanted to keep her distance at the party, it would likely be an attempt to avoid any media storm created if there were pictures of them partying together.

But a rep for Vonn insisted that she didn’t ask to be seated away from Nordegren, adding the two women are on “great terms” and spoke at different events over the weekend.

[From Page Six]

So if this wasn’t Lindsey’s idea was it Elin’s or did organizers just decide to do that on their own accord? It sounds like it came from either Lindsey or Elin, and I would bet it was Lindsey, especially since she was so insistent she didn’t want to be photographed inside. Why was that? I’m going to assume that she broke up with Alexander Ludwig already and didn’t want to be asked about him or photographed without him. She overestimates her fame, but we do talk about her occasionally.

However Lindsey just quashed Page Six’s story by posting a photo with Elin from the event. She posted this Instagram (below) last night. Maybe one of them asked that they not be seated together and they ended up talking anyway, or organizers had no clue they were friendly and assumed they hated each other. I just love to see Elin though, she handled her divorce with such grace and came out of it with tens of millions along with an education and a sense of perspective. She’s a class act and I’m not surprised she’s friendly with Lindsey.

Great to see Elin and friends at the #kentuckyderby last weekend. She was stunning as always!

I, personally, would not like to be seated anywhere in the vicinity of the disaster created by those hideous gold lame mom jeans/camel toe pants. Who knows what other atrocities could be lurking nearby?

    • Snazzy says:

And that hat looks like an alien ship landed on her head
Perhaps an alien mining ship, looking for gold, attracted by those pants?

      • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

The aliens crept silently off of their craft, trying to steal a glance at the treasure trove, only to find that it was an extreme fashion faux pas. Damn it, they muttered as they returned to their ship. Just some big old tacky pants.

    • livealot says:

I actually love it -sans hat!

  2. Danielle says:

I’m always interested in how elin is doing. That being said, I don’t love her outfit, surprised it’s a McQueen.

    • Esmom says:

Agreed and agreed. The outfit is weirdly childish and aging at the same time.

    • Sarah(too) says:

I’m so intrigued by Elin. I think the fact that she gave one interview – kept her privacy and her dignity – makes me even more curious about her. I’m happy that she is doing well and think she looks great.

      • Myrna says:

Elin and what she’s doing nowadays always intrigues me as well.
The outfit is a bit too sweet thereby aging her.
I’d like to see the vavavoom of her modeling days accentuated.
I’d expect more of her hairstyle and “bonnet.”
She’s still young and has “it”, no?
        Why not show it?

  3. LT says:

I can totally see why Elin wouldn’t have an issue with Lindsey. I’m happy that my ex is in a relationship because the happier he is, the better father he can be to our children.

  4. HollyG says:

I don’t devote many brain cells to Toger Woods, but didn’t Lindsey Vonn come along years after he and Elin had split up? And it was a legitimate relationship, not a parking lot fling, so I wouldn’t expect a hair pulling throw down. I bet the organizers took it upon themselves to separate them.

Elin looks lovely, and I like her dress.

  5. NewWester says:

Were organizers expecting some epic hair pulling, name calling “Dynasty” cat fight? Elin was always rather low key when she was married to Tiger( there was an incident when the cheating came out) but she has handled the situation well. Same with Lindsay she was photographed with Tiger while they were dating but no drama when they split

  6. ab says:

I was expecting something horrific from the description “wide sequin pants” but I actually like her outfit. also, nice job on the rumor-killing instagram. they look genuinely friendly, so I guess there was nothing to see there.

  7. als says:

I hope this is not true.
Ladies, don’t forget the man that constitutes the issue here: Tiger Woods!
I think you can populate a country with the women he has ‘loved’.

  8. Louise177 says:

Weren’t they friendly when Lindsey was dating Tiger? I don’t recall there being rumors of discord.

  9. Tiffany says:

I do not think either did it, it was probably some self created drama by the promotors to have us still talking about a lackluster KD this year.

    • minx says:

Agree. They both seem like sensible level headed women.

    • Green Girl says:

      That’s what I think.

Although it is fascinating to me to think of event planners going through a guest list and noting “Do NOT put [celeb a] and [celeb b] at the same table.” Sure, some of it may come from the celebrities’ staff, but I have to wonder if the organizers have a massive knowledge of gossip and can remember things from over a decade ago. (I am not speaking of this situation specifically, as I understand that Elin and Lindsey get along.)

  10. cindyp says:

    They both look awful!

  11. Rhiley says:

Michael Jordan recently gave some pretty interesting insight into Tiger Woods. According to ESPN, Tiger has been reaching out to MJ, asking questions like, “How do you know when it is time to retire?” MJ said that Tiger is at a point in his life where he realizes that he wants a life partner, and that he deeply regrets losing Elin. He wants the one thing he cannot have which is to have his family back with him. I buy that. I doubt Tiger would do anything differently if given the chance, but I believe he does want his ex wife back and to have his children with him full time. For Elin’s sake though, I hope she stays away from him. Tiger is a mess. His life is a mess. He and Lance Armstrong are almost one in the same.

  12. LizLemonGotMarried says:

    Isn’t (wasn’t) Elin dating a billionaire?

  13. Frosty says:

Lindsey, those are NOT your pants, girl.

I read a really interesting article about Tiger on ESPN’s website. Kind of put his collapse in perspective for me.

  14. Coconut says:

Fillies & Stallions as the name of a party is gross. That’s like saying Pre-Adolescent Girls & Men.

  15. Starkiller says:

Why was Elin even there? She has never been known for anything other than being Tiger Woods’ wife. Didn’t she make a large show of going to school and being “normal”? What is she promoting other than herself?

  16. Riley says:

What who wrote this? Elin was on Gonna Snapchat and they were laughing. So.. And now fox sports is reporting they were hanging out at the Derby.

  17. what's inside says:

No drama here. Nothing to see. Move along, move along folks.

  18. SKF says:

I actually prefer Vonn’s outfit. I think it looks chic and I normally don’t like pants at events like this, let along gold sparkly ones. Love the hat and top combo, pants work. It’s not amazing but I like it. For me Elin’s outfit is too little girly and pretty pretty. Plus I think dresses should be to the knee or beyond for events like this – it’s more elegant and appropriate.

  19. DIrty Martini says:

This sounds inconsistent with their history, which was one of maturity and respect. Maybe it was just some organizational lackey who assumed it would be bad to out them near each other and acted on that assumption. I remember after my divorce my ex and I still went to the same hair stylist. Apparently one time we coincidentally and without the knowledge of the other called for an appointment the same day. The booker made an assumption it would be disaster if we were in the salon at the same time, took a great effort to book us several hours apart, and proudly told the stylist about the averted crisis, Stylist laughed and told us both when we got there knowing how silly the booker was……we wer successfully co parenting a 5 year old and together 2-3 x per week with our sons activities and hand offs,
