Mick Jagger, 72, ‘won’t be playing happy families’ with his baby-mama Melanie

As we discussed Friday, Mick Jagger is going to be a daddy for the eighth time. Jagger is 72 years old, and he knocked up a 29-year-old ballerina named Melanie Hamrick. Melanie is an American and she still lives in America. She has no plans to move to England, which is Mick’s home base. Even the announcement/confirmation of the pregnancy seemed cold, like Mick and Melanie are barely even speaking at this point and Mick is already over it. Mick and Melanie started seeing each other shortly after L’Wren Scott committed suicide in 2014, but there were rumors that Mick was still very much seeing other women. Following the pregnancy announcement, the Daily Mail did a gossipy piece about the reactions from everyone around Mick, plus some added details about Mick and Melanie’s relationship. Some highlights:

Mick Jagger as Pappy. He already has five grandchildren and one great-granddaughter, and they all call him Pappy. Apparently, he’s a doting and playful grandpa.

Jagger wasn’t expecting Melanie’s pregnancy. The Daily Mail’s source says: “He says he is pleased, but he won’t be playing happy families. It would be fair to say that there’s a bit of an intake of breath about going through all this again at his age. I think the word was “surprised”. I don’t think he was best pleased for this all to kick off at his age, but the one area of his life about which he is strangely philosophical is fatherhood. He tends to come into his own once they are past the crawling, burping age, so this one is the end of line because he will be in his dotage when the child is old enough for him to play with it.” The DM says that he and Melanie were never “exclusive” and there is “no question” of a possible proposal or marriage.

Jagger will spend some money on Melanie though. He plans to buy her a house in LA or Connecticut. The model for their arrangement will be similar to what he has with Luciana Morad, the mother of his son Lucas. Mick sees Lucas sometimes and has given a financial settlement and a house to Luciana.

Jerry Hall is appalled: “Everyone is doing their best to take it in their stride, but Jerry Hall, with whom Mick has four children, is shocked and appalled. She thinks it’s time he put a sock on it.”

Keith Richards is amused: Jagger “has already enjoyed, I’m told, some gentle ribbing from bandmate Keith Richards, who wants to know what the secret is of his everlasting fertility. And Keith’s astonishment is shared by many in the Stones camp, some of whom find it hard to believe that a worldly woman such as Melanie Hamrick could be surprised by a pregnancy. There are also those who find it stretches credulity Mick would not have paid a little more heed to contraceptive matters, given that he is already a father of seven.”

[From The Daily Mail]

The rest of the piece is about Jagger’s sexual history, and the doubts about whether he ONLY has seven children (soon to be eight). The Mail calls Jagger’s womanizing “his chief daily hobby, aside from following cricket, and reading the financial pages on his iPad.” There’s also some gossip about Melanie, who is said to be very bright, cultured and talented. The shade is that people who know her basically think that she got pregnant on purpose just as a retirement plan, which is sort of what I think too. I mean, if Jagger’s not going to wrap it up, why not? Beats ballerina-ing.

I feel sorry for his children having to grow up basically without their father because he can’t be bothered to see them.

    • Jayna says:

I read he has a close relationship with all of his children, and even eventually the youngest one once he and Jerry broke up, who wouldn’t accept him. I don’t blame her. The kids seems to adore their father and have a good relationship with him. When he and Jerry separated, didn’t he build a connecting walkway or something between the houses so he could be close to his kids as they were growing up? At least, those were Jerry’s kids with him. I know he was not a good father to Bianca’s daughter for years, but finally much later grew close.

He is in a band and travels, but so did a lot of rockers who are fathers. He would never be the same as someone in a nine to five.

      • Trixie says:

The quoted article says Mick only “sees Lucas sometimes”. And that he will only see this new kid sometimes, too. I don’t care about his relationship with his adult children, I feel badly for the new younger ones who only see their father “sometimes” because he can’t be bothered to spend time with them.

      • Zapp Brannigan says:

I think that Jerry was the one insisting that all the kids have a chance to be close and she was the one that insisted that Mick had a relationship with Karis Hunt who he denied for years. Marsha had to eventually sue him for child support and she was on welfare for a while before this.

He is also notoriously cheap so good luck getting cash out of him.

      • LAK says:

The only reason he is close to any of his kids was because Jerry insisted on it. She’s a mama hen to all his kids including those from other women and has always made a big thing of them growing up and regarding each other as siblings as opposed to half and half. The tight bond between them all is a credit to her.

      • KatyD says:

To Jayna: Funny I read just the opposite. I remember one of the Jagger daughters saying she didn’t see her father much during the year and would see him in the summer. She talked about him lining his kids up so he could take a look at them. She said he liked seeing them all lined up. It sounded like he was trying to remember their faces because he couldn’t remember them. It sounded so awful and cold. By contrast, she said nothing but wonderful things about her mom, Jerry.

      • Zip says:

He’s 72. There is not much time left for him to build a relationship with the new baby. He might be dead in 10 years.

    • Starkiller says:

If someone would like to avoid their child
growing up without knowing his/her father, she shouldn’t get pregnant to a guy who lives on another continent. Pretty simple.

  2. boredblond says:

She can toss the tutu, live well, AND never have to see naked Mick again…sounds like a plan..

    • Burgher says:

I’m not worried for the child. The mother is a young woman – she will likely find someone who can be a father figure to the child. This kid is going to be set up better than the vast majority of the humans on this Earth. Let’s re-direct our worries to the poor Cutler children. 😉

  3. GoodNamesAllTaken says:

There are many potential consequences for the baby when the father is so old. Irresponsible and gross.

    • Aussie girl says:

Yes but obviously it still does the job. I think you are right though about it been iresponable. Him for not getting the snip or putting a sock on it ( thanks Jerry), her for not taking precautions ( although I’m sure a baby was her intentions), for health reasons regarding the old swimmers, also for bringing a child into the world for finical or namesake gain.

    • Esmom says:

Agreed. It does make me feel a little better about him to know that he seems appalled as well, I didn’t get that from the last story about it. And he should have taken precautions…but now at least he’s doing the right thing.

      • Erinn says:

I don’t know … I find that makes me more disgusted with him. Get the snip, dude. He should have done that AGES ago. And I’m not sure that he can act ‘surprised’ if he’s an active participant in an act that makes babies.

      • mary s says:

Unless the pregnancy was truly an accident, I agree that he should have been more responsible. Both people need to be responsible, not just one. If he didn’t get snipped or wear a condom, he doesn’t get to be surprised. I hope he follows through with the financial support.

    • julied says:

      yes, you’re speaking genetically….correct?

      • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

Yes. I’m not an expert, but I have read several studies suggesting that the father being over 50 increases the risk of breast cancer in female offspring by over 50%, and also increases the risk of epilepsy and autism and other diseases.

  4. Eleonor says:

I would pay to hear what Keith Richards says to him !!!! I know it is priceless.
I see a retirement plan too.

  5. HeyThere! says:

Okay…they may be really shocking to some, BUT if you have unprotected sex…..you can get pregnant!!! I KNOW, crazy, right????

    • Eleonor says:

      That’s the real point.
One of the greatest r’n’r living legend still hasn’t learned how to use a condom at 72.

    • Suzanne says:

You don’t say???!!! I bet poor Mick had NO idea!! 😛

    • LAK says:

      Not to mention stds

    • Azurea says:

It never ceases to amaze me that people don’t acknowledge that sometimes birth control FAILS! Even the snip!

      • Sunshine Gold says:

He has soon-to-be 8 children from 5 different mothers. Maybe ~maybe~ birth control failed on one of these. But not more than that.

  6. Palar says:

29 is getting a bit long in the tooth for a ballerina so retirement plan it is!

  7. Lisa says:

    worldly = slut, amirite?

  8. Dana says:

You would think mick would know better i think he doesnt care. He is loaded pays them then sees the kids when it suits him. The ballerina wont be needing her slippers anytime soon. At least will have a few niece and nephews his own age but he will be their uncle.

  9. LAK says:

Seriously, she picked the wrong ATM for a retirement plan. Each of Mick’s ex-wives and babies mothers had to pursue him in court to get decent settlement.

Mick is a notorious skinflint, even to his own flesh and blood.

    • Caz says:

Yes. Will be interesting to see how this pans out. She may not get a home that’s to her liking?

  10. Angel says:

“Mick sees Lucas sometimes….” this line made me so sad. 🙁

  11. Dangles says:

When did Mick Jagger change his name to Mick Jagger 72? Or is he going by his Hotmail name these days?

  12. Sun says:

To me, sounds like a sex addict. Could have used treatment long ago. Take the little blue pills away from him.

  13. outhousecat says:

Mick got a little too much satisfaction, IMO.

  14. lucy2 says:

Always amazes me that guys like this don’t get snipped. It would solve a lot of problems and save a lot of money.
I am so icked out by the idea that his next child will be YOUNGER than his GREAT GRANDCHILD.

  15. Suzy from Ontario says:

Just cause you can doesn’t mean you should! Not sure his sperm would be in great shape either at his age…more chance of birth defects, etc. as you age because it deteriorates. Didn’t one of his bandmates also just have twins?

  16. Jayna says:

I’m confused. He has introduced this woman to his family, so more than a casual girl.

Mick has never ever been alone. He always has a main girlfriend. L’Wren and Mick shared homes together and a life together. So I find it strange that if this is his girlfriend they are living separate lives on separate continents, and I don’t know if I believe that they actually are, unless he already has another one he sees more and that this woman was truly a casual relationship. But if it was, he wouldn’t have introduced her to his family. Mick has like four homes or so that he splits his time between. He only lives in England a portion of the time, or at least that’s how it used to be it seemed like. He and L’Wren were in England a lot when they renovated a home, stayed in their home in France a lot, I think New York also.

Time will tell. Of course, the Daily Mail isn’t known for total accuracy anyway.

  17. Tig says:

Clearly, this is retirement planning- she stays in US, then US child support rules apply. Just ask Salma H’s billionaire hubby. Again, feel
sorry for a child whose memories of his/her father will likely be pretty limited. I am sure Keith R is getting his digs in!

  18. Jen says:

I don’t see the big deal. It’s no different than a single woman who goes to get ivf. Except this kid will know who the dad is. Yes there’s risk because he is 72. But the benefit for the kid (connections, wealth, genes, status ) probably equal if not strongly outweigh the risks.
And to call her a gold digger, i dont think so. Ballerinas have work ethic to spare and while not Rockstar wealthy, they are not poor.
