Michelle Obama & Missy Elliott rock out on James Corden’s ‘Carpool Karaoke’

Michelle Obama during an appearance on CBS's 'The Late Late Show with James Corden.'

People are really excited about this! A few days ago, James Corden released a preview of his brand new Carpool Karaoke with our FLOTUS, Michelle Obama. Usually, Carpool Karaoke is just for singers and musicians, but I can see why MObama would want to do it. She used the appearance to promote her initiative, Let Girls Learn, but most of the time she and James are just rocking out to Stevie Wonder, Beyonce and more. Hilariously, Corden couldn’t drive around DC with MObama – I really think he’s just driving in circles in the White House parking lot? Around the 9:50-minute mark, there’s a special guest appearance by Missy Elliott!! Here’s the video:

GET YOUR FREAK ON!!! That was the best part. Although “Single Ladies” was pretty great too. Overall, this was really cute. I do think Missy deserves her own Carpool Karaoke though, but I bet she was happy to hang out with MObama. I also think it’s sort of funny that Michelle doesn’t have a great voice? She’s enthusiastic, cute and cool… but she’s not really a great singer. You can read more about the Let Girls Learn initiative here.

White House visitors are going to miss her as well. I LOVED watching the videos from there showing FLOTUS meeting with them. The warm hugs and hang shakes she gave were lovely. She was very personable with every one of them. I especially loved a video where there was a lady in a wheelchair who went to meet here and she (the lady) insisted on getting out of it (painfully I might add) to walk into Michelle’s arms.

Milania is taking notes, watch out.

      • The Eternal Side-Eye says:

Now all I can picture is her forcibly trying to say “Get your freak on” in that stilted way of her’s.

      • Justjj says:

Melania would be more of a Die Antwoord carpool karaoke type. This is so cute! I love Missy.

    • JustJen says:

Oh yes….she is the first FLOTUS I’ve actually felt I could relate to pretty much ever. Can’t even go there with either Bush lady or Nancy Reagan and Hilary Clinton just isn’t relatable. She is just amazing!

    • Tiffany :) says:

I am going to miss them so much.

    • MC2 says:

I agree but I do want to see Bill Clinton whoop it up on Carpool. I’m excited to see a first gentleman in the white house & what he does with the role.

    • Rascalito says:

Don’t worry, I’m sure First Lady Melania Trump will do you proud! haha NOT

  2. BritAfrica says:

She is so effort-less! Very refreshing.

    Just think:
    Theresa May – UK
    Angela Merkel – Germany (EU)
    Christine Lagarde – IMF
    Hillary Clinton – USA ??

Come on now, let women run the world for a while, the markets will calm down! 🙂

    • Micki says:

Out of curiosity: will you say the same about Marine Le Pen-France?
I mean the next vote in France is next year.

      • BritAfrica says:

If she/her party wins the country’s election, yes. I may not like or respect her views but l’ll fight for her right to express them.

Thanks so much for posting this! I needed a smile today, and I got one. I can’t remember the last time I thought I was actually going to miss a First Lady, but I’m really going to miss her.

(In light of recent events, I got a nasty chuckle out of that “Don’t copy me!” line in the last song. I know that was probably just a weird coincidence, but LOL anyhow.)

    • jmacky says:

same. Michelle is just amazing. and i want to be in that car. and how cute was Missy Elliot? i love her all over again.

      • Aussie girl says:

She is so much fun and can laugh at herself. Did she do the mum dancing thing with jimmy F ..?

      • Tiffany says:

@jmacky. Both were adorable and Missy was gone too long.

@Aussie girl, yes she did and it was as cute as expected.

    • Tiffany :) says:

I needed this today as well. She is just so radiant and full of joy.

I was really impressed at how well she did on Get Your Freak On.

  5. Brittney B. says:

God, I’m going to miss her so much.

  6. Bex says:

She’s awesome (and did a much better job of singing than Selena Gomez did in her Carpool Karaoke). I think the Obamas are going to be really missed.

  7. MrsJonSnow says:

Oh my gosh! As a South African, I’m going to miss this amazing family ❤️

  8. LadyJane says:

The Secret Service security car following them as they drive in circles is cracking me up

    • lucy2 says:

I noticed that too! I was wondering how they’d do the driving thing since with Secret Service in the car, but I guess they just drove a loop around the White House for a while.

I love Michelle, love that she did this, and love Let Girls Learn.

    • Krista says:

Too funny! I just watched the Obama episode of Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee with Jerry Seinfeld. They were also only allowed to drive around the circle a few times. Most of the episode took place in the WH. It was really cute and these bits are similar. I highly recommend. These two are just so charming and seem like actual people.

      • Tiffany says:

The intro was so funny. Jerry arrives and he still has to wait for POTUS because he was finishing up paperwork and Jerry was bored, in the Oval Office.

    • Tate says:

I was laughing at that too. Loved the whole thing!!

    • The Original Mia says:

The Secret Service twitter posted a thank you to Corden for bringing her back safely.

Gonna miss the Obamas so freaking much.

    • BearcatLawyer says:

But thank the good Lord above (or the Supreme Being of your choice or not), at least we saw them in this lifetime.

  13. Lauren says:

Please Michelle pull a Hillary and come back to us in a few years! I’ll be waiting!

  14. eto says:

    Michelle’s got bars!

  15. susanne says:

I love the Obamas. During their campaign, I learned they were appearing in Cleveland a day before the event. I packed up my 4 year old daughter and got on the road, a 6 hour trip. We stayed with family and caught a ride into the city in some hippie bus. Probably the only time my kid was without a car seat or seatbelt in her life. Stood in line all day, and I carried her while she napped and got creative when we needed the potty.
That night we saw Barack and Michelle and the kids, and they were introduced by Bruce Springsteen, who gave the most intelligent, thoughtful speech. Once we got home and Obama was elected, she asked if we could have them over for dinner. My babe is almost 12 now, and doesn’t really remember this.
I know that politics is filthy business, but I believe in the integrity of the Obamas, and can’t thank them enough.

    • Tate says:

My kids were 2 and 4 during the first campaign. I still have their tiny “My mama’s for Obama” t-shirts. I love this family and will miss them.

    • SusanneToo says:

      That’s a great story, sister susanne😊

    • Lolamd says:

He was my first vote ever. I was so excited to vote and I voted for him!

  16. Betti says:

America, ur FLOTUS is amazing! A real asset to your country. My life would be complete if she just ran off into the distance with a certain Ginger Prince 😉 Sorry Barack!!!

  17. Annie says:

All teary eyed at reading these comments on how Our First Lady MIchelle Obama is going to be missed. I am going to miss her so much, too. The whole beautiful family will be missed.

  18. Catherine says:

    Love Mobama! Renaissance Forever!!! ❤️

  19. Emma - The JP Lover says:

Didn’t President Obama come on stage after it was announced he’d won the 2008 Presidential election to Stevie Wonder’s “Sign, Sealed, Delivered … I’m Yours?” 🙂

    🙂

    🙂

  20. JRenee says:

    Looks like fun!

  21. The Eternal Side-Eye says:

God I’m going to miss this lady, this family so much, please please please Obama’s!

I know you’ve gotten enough bull and stress for a lifetime but please don’t be strangers after you leave The White House. You have a lot of people who love and appreciate every effort you’ve made including in trying to make us smile and find joy during our darkest moments.

  22. kodakay says:

That was AMAZING! It made my day. I’m going to miss Our First Lady; she’s educated, fit and a ton of fun! I love her! Will miss the entire first family!

  23. Guesto says:

She is just joyful in every possible way. <3

  24. Reece says:

I imagine that if they had gone outside of the grounds they would have had to block off streets. I mean you can see the Secret Service car driving behind them.

I am so going to miss them!

  25. Lambda says:

Man, she’s adorable! Not the the most likely thing you’d say about a First Lady, but she’s just adorable. I lost it at “he’d better be” at the office.

  26. Abby says:

I’ve been a republican all my life, but I’ve really grown to love Michelle more and more lately… I really appreciate the warmth and class the Obamas brought to the White House. I didn’t vote for Barack, but in the face of the future choices, I sure will miss their welcoming presence as President and First Lady.

This was such a cute video and I’m so happy about her initiative for girls. Such an important issue in today’s world.

I am dreading the election. Dreading it. I can’t vote for either party at this point.
