Almost don't fit the mirror anymore..

Back in March, we learned something new/weird: Game of Thrones star Carice van Houten (39) had taken up with Guy Pearce (48), and they were expecting their first child together. While Carice and Guy had been photographed once or twice before March, I don’t think most people had any idea they were together, so the pregnancy announcement was extra-surprising. So surprising, in fact, that the post about it had 100 comments! Well, good news! Carice gave birth to a healthy baby boy, and Guy announced the name:

What do we think of the name Monte Pearce? It reminds me of several things all at once. One, Guy Pearce is Australian, and Australian celebrities tend to follow the British way of baby-naming, which is to use nicknames as proper, legal names. Like, I could see calling the baby Monte if his given name was Montgomery or Monterey or something. Monte sounds like a nickname. My second thought was that “Monte Pearce” sounds like an old-fashioned Hollywood name, like a stage name used by a leading man in the 1940s. His real name would have been Archie Guthrie, but the studio changed it to Monte Pearce.

In any case, congrats to Carice and Guy and little Monte.
