I really wanted Serena to grab that record for consecutive weeks at #1 :/ I saw this incredible stat on Twitter- since reclaiming World #1 3 years ago, she’s won more titles than lost matches. GOAT. At the same time I’m delighted for Angelique Kerber, who was very much a journeywoman for the vast majority of her career and has now made 3 slam finals this year alone. She’s such a hard worker. I can’t imagine that Serena won’t be back on top very soon.

  2. ellie says:

Serena doesn’t need to prove anything to anyone. She will always be the GOAT.
I love me some Angie though. I have been a fan of Kerber for a long time and want to see her win tomorrow and become the new Number 1.

    • Bex says:

Me too! She’s been involved in some amazing matches over the years, but I’d given up on her properly breaking through. That Australian Open final was such a joy.

so jonny depp, abuser, is rewarded for his behaviour. well done, hollywood.

  4. JRenee says:

Wow, people still drawn to Tupac will go and see the movie…I think. Just hard to imagine a movie about Pacific starring Depp..

  5. nitesh says:

and she was injured, well I respect her as a player definitely one of the best (male or female ) but as a person though? na!!
it’s just funny when an injury comes just after a lose, I saw highlights of that match and Pliskova was playing superb hitting hard going for angles and serving well, it happened all the time to other players too mysterious injuries, haha!!

That featured link for Goop on DListed… I don’t think Goop is turning a profit.

  7. Hfsni says:

    Yesssss!!!Serena lost.
Her behavior on court is so unprofessional and unsportsmanlike she doesnt deserve it.

    • Flowerchild says:

How is she unprofessional and unsportsmanlike??? and poses don’t mention somthing that happened years ago that she apologized for.

      • tegteg says:

She is consistently unprofessional on the tennis court. She screams, throws tantrums, throws her racket and smashes it. And yeah, she’s been fined and apologized for it before, but she still does it. She just got fined AGAIN a couple of months ago. I mean, she threatened a line judge once – that’s crazy behavior. Do I think she’s a spectacular tennis player and the GOAT? Undoubtedly, but I don’t watch her play because of her antics. That being said, many men behave that way and don’t receive the flak for it, which ticks me off. I won’t watch men or women who throw tantrums on the court – I respect athletes who lose with grace.

    • Helena says:

You and tegteg clearly don’t watch Serena regularly if you think she’s so “unsportsmanlike” and “regularly throws temper tantrums”. And @tegteg, Serena has become one of the most gracious tennis players when losing, moreso than the vast majority of the women’s tour. She actually looks the opponents in the eye and congratulates them whereas most other female players give a quick glance and an even quicker handshake. Maybe you guys should actually look past your biases…or admit you have them when it comes to Serena. She’s not perfect, but she’s not the horrible human being you two try to cast her as. That distinction belongs to someone like Sharapova, who’s been doping for at least most of her career.

  8. Green Is Good says:

    “GOAT”. Anybody, what is this?

  9. Nene says:

In my opinion Steffi Graf is the best. Serena is a great player but her court behaviour puts me off.

    • Pepper says:

Graf for me too. She dominated against the best.

Serena’s a brilliant player, but she’s also benefited immensely from how terrible women’s tennis has been for a decade or so. Her biggest challengers have been her sister and Sharapova, both of whom aren’t exactly GOAT material and both of whom suffered constant injuries that took them out of the game.

It’s the same thing as Federer benefiting from that period between Sampras, Agassi etc. winding down/retiring and Nadal, Djokovic and Murray starting up, where people like Mark Philipoussis could make the Wimbledon final, except Serena’s whole career has been during a period like that for women’s tennis.

If Serena had had to challenge players like Graf, Navratilova, Evert, Hingis and Seles she wouldn’t have half the slams she has.

      • nitesh says:

Haha!! agassi drug cheat don’t know what else he took and they hide it.

      • nitesh says:

Nadal started a long time ago almost a year later to roger and same thing can be said about others when roger had mono in 2008 Nadal win his first grand slam which is not French, novak also won his first in 08 then next way back in 2011 Murray had his first later in 13, and wawrinka had in 14. so there you go they all had taken benefit from roger decline in health and age. Nadal is 5 Murray and novak is 6 and wawrinka is 4 year younger then him.

      • Annetommy says:

I don’t agree nitesh. Federer has been one of the healthiest players out there. Compare his uninterrupted years of playing with the horrible problems Del Potro had for example. I don’t think Roger’s bout of mono is anything to do with the fact that Nadal has beaten Roger far more than Roger has beaten Rafa. And while Roger has been consistently in the top three, he hasn’t actually won many grand slams for quite a few years, long before age should be a factor.
Serena is one of the greatest. I’m not sure it’s possible to be any more specific than that.

    • Robin says:

      Agreed, Nene and Pepper.

    • rrabbit says:

A case be made for any of Serena Williams, Steffi Graf, Martina Navratilova (a total of 59 Grand Slam titles), and Margaret Court (a total of 62 Grand Slam titles, and overall 192 career titles).

  10. Veronica says:

Stella’s dress isn’t absolutely terrible, IMHO. Pretty typical Forever 21-type summer dress – although hers is probably high end and way more expensive than it deserves to be. (For the record, the black lace you’re seeing isn’t actually part of the dress – it’s one of the halter bralettes from the Victoria Secret summer collection. I know because I own the same one, hah.)

  11. kitty says:

What a great match, Serena is one of the greatest no matter what. She’s up there with Steffi, Navratilova, M.J.,Selles n Sabatini n Hingis. Or me Steffi will hold a special place, it took her 5 yes less to reach 22, she played against top players, they played 5 sets. Much respect. Serena today has has Venus, Merger,Clijsters,Henin but its so unpredictable the game except for Serena n Kerber, the rest of girls need to catch up. The men’s game its always the top 10 always moving. Good luck to Serena, hope her injury is not serious.

    • KAI says:

Women only played 5 sets at the WTA Tour Finals from 1984 to 1998. They did not play 5 sets at any other tournaments.

  12. Singtress says:

I really need to talk about Ariana Grande’s pants that she wore on Fridays Tonight Show.
If a homeless person wore them on the street I would have assumed he/she made them out of trashed fabric scraps.
