Amy Winehouse returns to the stage in disastrous performance

Not surprisingly, Amy Winehouse’s weekend “comeback” show was anything but. The singer was performing at a jazz festival in St. Lucia, the Caribbean island where she’s been living for the last few months. Concertgoers noted that she appeared to be drunk and/or on drugs – not a big surprise. Though Amy has seemed to be improving over the last several months, the concert was a true return to form for her – in the worst possible way. She stumbled, slurred, cursed at the crowd and eventually walked off the stage.

Amy Winehouse may wish to return to the stage, but it seems the world isn’t quite ready for her yet. The troubled singer was apparently forced to abandon a comeback gig in St Lucia after torrential rain hit the island last night. However onlookers claim the real reason Amy left the stage was because the audience booed her shambolic performance. After taking to stage at the St Lucia Jazz Festival in a tight-fitting blue dress and white high heels, it was reported that Amy, 25, appeared to struggle with her balance and stumbled through the lyrics of her songs. When the crowd began to jeer, the Back to Black star is alleged to have shouted ‘**** you’ back to the audience at least twice before leaving the stage.

However Amy’s spokesman claims the star was forced to abandon the show because of weather conditions which caused technical difficulties. He said: ‘Amy would like to express her disappointment that weather forced the abandonment of her show at the St Lucia Jazz Festival last night. Amy and the band tried to soldier on but the set had to be cut short. Amy is very disappointed as St Lucia has been wonderful to her and its people have welcomed her with open arms, but circumstances beyond anyone’s control meant that this special show did not go as planned.’

But MailOnline reader Victor Phillips wrote: ‘I was there. She was booed off the stage. If it was the rain why did the act after her perform?’ And Tracey, also writing from St Lucia, said: ‘Weather aside, it was not raining when Amy came on stage, it did rain heavily later in her set but that has not stopped previous performers here! ‘It was impossible to hear her and what you could hear was BAD! It’s very sad to see someone with so much talent waste it. ‘The tickets for the event are expensive for anyone and especially local people. Amy needs to take time out and sort her life out. Very disappointing.’

The singer had earlier described it as an ‘honour’ to be playing in the festival on the island, which seems to have become her second home. She said in a statement: ‘It is an honour to play the St Lucia Jazz Festival this year. ‘Since I first came to the island, I have been greeted with nothing but kindness and friendship, as well as incredible music and the most beautiful of settings. I have made friends for life and have been inspired by my surroundings.

Boy, cursing at the crowd doesn’t seem like the best way to repay the people of the island for their generosity. Rarely do four letter words ingratiate you to others. And the people of St. Lucia have been really kind towards Amy. She’s had all sorts of drunken run ins, but they still seem to like her. To her credit, Amy hasn’t been quite the abrasive drunk she used to be – I don’t think she’s head butted anyone in months. Baby steps, we’re going for baby steps.

If I were Amy I’d give a free public concert as a way to make amends and say thank you. There aren’t a whole lot of locales with people that actually want to deal with Winehouse. Best to act quickly to remedy the situation.

Aw who are they trying to fool with their weather conditions causing technical difficulties? 🙄 I love this girl but she needs a serious spell in rehab. Otherwise this is going to be the rest of her life.

This makes me want to cry. Her first two records are anthems to me. I wonder if she has just done so much damage to her brain she will never ever come back to the amazing talent she once was. Her music comes from such a dark and tormented place….I hope we haven’t heard the last of it. I am afraid we have. Sniff.

  3. saintdevil says:

She’s not even talented. All she has is a good voice – like Kim K has a big fat ass. I wish people would stop treating her like this huge musical genius, first step for her to get over herself.

Cursing at concert-goers who expected more than a stumbling, slurring train wreck (not that they had any right to…) is really classy.

    meh

this crack head never did it for me. she sounds like a cigarette smoking banshee and now she is just a parody of herself, if that is even possible.

  5. Chicamorena says:

Unless she gets some serious rehab soon, I would hazard a guess that she is in the last year or two of her life.

Those poor dancing guys. They probably don’t even have to give each other the look of “oh crap, here we go again” anymore. They are the main act now.

bros, “cigarette smoking banshee” is right!! LOL

So many people wrote about how good it was for Amy to be in the Carribean (as opposed to London) and maybe in a hopeful, optimistic way assumed she was getting “better” there.
The sad truth is, it’s just as easy to be a drug addict on a tropical island as it is in the middle of a big city.
She is never going to just “get better” unless she truly commits to a life without drugs and alcohol.
And even that might not be enough to save her career.
I think she is/was very talented and it is a sad waste of a gift and promising future.

Geez when is she going to stop being such a freakin chicken head? It’s such a waste. I have all her albums and I love her but this just makes me mad.

  9. RaraAvis says:

Love the way she plops that crack wig on her head and cakes on some liner and thinks it makes her look beeeutiful. Pathetic.

Indeed it was raining, but the rain had nothing to do with Amy Winhouse’s TERRIBLE performance. She came on the stage completely drunk or high. She forgot her words and her back-up singers were singing the songs. She even attempted to make out with one of them. Her band had to be telling her ‘COME-ON AMY’. The weather is not to be blamed for this performance, her instaibility is to be completeltly blammed. i feel really sorry for her and hope she can recover from this. Not forgeting the few times she cursed the audience. What was more disappointing was the fact that she did not even sing Re-hab, her most popular song.

  12. lola lola says:

I am embarrassed on her behalf that she is still “trying” to perform when she is clearly incapable. This story is not gonna have a good ending…but an ending is clearly coming.

  13. BooJoulais says:

Winehouse is a walking ATM, that’s why you see reports of TPTB of St. Lucia proclaiming their love.

  14. anon says:

    totally agree saintdevil!

When is Courtney Love gonna adopt this poor trainwreck of a singer and maybe mentor her.
