Well, well. It looks like Woman’s Day got the scoop after all! Aussie tabloid Woman’s Day was the first to report that James Packer dumped Mariah Carey after a 10-months-long engagement. The reason I gave some credence to the report was because I believed it was more than possible that Woman’s Day would have some sources in the Packer family, a rather well-known family in Australia. Thursday afternoon, the confirmations to People Magazine came in: Packer did dump Mariah. They had some kind of blowout fight in September and haven’t seen each other since. And yes, he hated the way she spent money. Shocking. But there are about a million more additions to this story, so let’s get to it!
People Mag’s first stories. The first stories made it sound like James Packer had absolutely dumped Mariah for several reasons, including the fact that she spends a crazy amount of money. People also noted that his family doesn’t like her at all. But the sources began insisting that the split could just be temporary and Packer just needed “a break” from Mimi.
Something went down in Greece. Mariah and James were in Greece last month and something went down and they haven’t seen each other or spoken since then. TMZ’s Mimi-sources claimed that James did “something really bad” involving “her assistant” and afterwards, Mariah bolted.
Packer is “mentally unstable.” Again, this comes from TMZ’s Mimi-sources. Mariah allegedly believes that Packer is “not in his right mind” and “mentally unstable.” Sources claim she left him after he got violent in Greece. Packer’s people tell TMZ that Mimi is telling lies.
Packer is jelly. Jelly of Mariah’s backup dancer Bryan Tanaka. Packer apparently had suspicions that Bryan and Mariah were too close and Packer went ape on the guy.
Mariah & James are never, ever getting back together. TMZ and People’s sources began insisting late last night after all of the other stories came out that there is no hope for reconcilliation at all and that both sides feel the other side is misrepresenting the situation. TMZ says “there’s tremendous bitterness on both sides.” Packer’s rep told People that Mariah’s accusations of violence and jealousy are “simply untrue” and that “it’s typical Mariah to just twist things that don’t sound good to her. They split because she has issues. James is definitely an oddball, but a brilliant great guy. To put her issues on James is ridiculous.”
An official statement. In the midst of all this back and forth early on Thursday, Mariah’s rep released a statement to Entertainment Tonight saying: “Mariah and James had a fight in Greece, and have not seen each other since. The fight was not because of any cheating allegations or excessive spending by Mariah. James is one of the most successful businessmen in the world. They are trying to work it out. Right now, they’re not sure if they will stay together. They are discussing it, and plan to release an official statement together about their future.” Good luck with that!

He should’ve known what Mariah is like with money. Everyone knows Mariah is a diva. I thought something was up when I saw that pic of her with Nick and the kids. I know Nick is her children’s father but there was something about that seemed a bit iffy to me. Maybe Mariah is reconciling with Nick.
Eh that means nothing. They’ve been getting together with the kids ever since they split. They do joint birthdays and holidays pretty well actually. Heck she was with nick and his mom (and kids) when she was full on dating Packer.
I like how they get along well for their kids. Good for them. I should have probably worded it differently. What I was meant to say (which I didn’t) is that Packer might have not been comfortable with the close relationship Mariah has with Nick along with Mariah’s antics.
She’s too over the top and “darling ” for most men. Oh mimi, what happened in Greece? Hummmm?
Did anyone see her do her lap dance on Bryan Tanaka? He is her choreographer and he was there on stage (he had a broken leg and was sitting in a chair). I normally don’t believe the affair with the backup dancer story but it could be with this one. This dancer doesn’t ping my radar.

*IF* Packer really did get violent in Greece, then I’m sure letting Mimi keep the $10M engagement ring would be a smart move on his part to keep her quiet about that. Rich people don’t stay rich by throwing away that much money for no reason.
He’s been busted in a few punch ups in Australia (with other men) so I buy that he could have been violent in Greece but probably not towards Mariah, maybe with someone from her entourage. I wouldn’t want to spend more than ten minutes in either Mariah or Packer’s company but if I had a gun to my head I’d be team Mimi. Packer is not a successful businessman, he was the successful sperm that became the child of a billionaire. His personal record is pretty woeful (One-Tel anyone?). Then there’s the whiff of Scientology, the ridiculous temper and the incredibly thin skin for someone who more closely resembles Shrek than a human being. He is loathsome inside and out.

Maybe there’s the expectation that she’d spend money but the reality was she really, really spent money. Maybe she exceeded the budget lol.
Agreed. Onassis had the same complaint about Jackie. Mind you he had other complaints about her, but spendthriftiness was apparently a frequent complaint.
Wealthy people are quite miserly. Yes they have the yacht/plane/multiple mega mansions etc toys and ability to buy $10M engagement rings, but day to day spending is quite modest and rarely on ridiculous things.
To be fair, living lavishly without an ability to rein it in occasionally is a good way to see your net worth drop considerably.
I agree. It sounds suspiciously like this guy is going for the low hanging fruit by blaming the woman and her spending habits. Mariah is over the top but everyone knew that, including Packer.
Allegedly his family owned Women’s Day so no surprise they got the scoop with a super sympathetic spin for him.
It was owned by ACP but isn’t anymore. There’s no particular reason they’d be partial to the Packers for that reason but generally Oz media won’t be harsh on an incredibly rich and powerful Australian man.
Her kids are so cute! I wonder what it’s like to have a mom like her…boating around with her boyfriend in Greece, your mom always in a sparkling dress, always ‘on’ and putting on a show…fascinating.
