I love Seth Myers. His post election speech was one of the best I’ve heard.
And I hope JK Rowling says something about Depp’s casting. And Grindelwald was supposed to be from Central or Eastern Europe, no? Why not cast an actor from there? Depp will probably do a horrible accent anyway.

There are many talented Blonde/Blue Eastern Europeans that could have been cast.
The casting of an American seems off.
Then most of foreign actors should try and “act” their way to a proper accent and not a Dracula knock off they’re been doing for years.

What exactly did trump do or say about the African American community? According to my AA friends he was the only one who actually went out of his way to speak to the African American community about the unique issues that they face and came with plans and solutions which is something no president before him has done, not even obama.
Most lump AAs with POC and latino immigrants which is odd since African Americans, along with native americans, are the only non immigrant group in america. They have unique issues that can’t just be lumped in with Latinos etc. Anyway, my friends appreciated that, at the very least.

Well, I hope your friends appreciate being stopped and frisked by “law and order” Trump supporting cops. I hope they appreciate being turned away from Trump hotels and property (which Trump properties have done in the past). I hope they feel proud that Trump has one African American, particularly such a stellar representative like Omarosa… The list of his anti AA speech and gestures is long. Oh, and I hope they make sure and learn to know their place when Trump supporters wave their confederate flags passing by on the way to their klan meetings. Maybe if they’re lucky they won’t experience public lynching and will “only” have to deal with the outright discrimination – like having to be hidden from view at Trump properties when he came to inspect ( I guess cutting grass is ok, just don’t give them office jobs).
I’ll stick to the part about African Americans not being an immigrant group. Yes originally they were immigrants — just not voluntarily. Native Americans remain the only truly native peoples.

Chn seriously? did you even watch the debates? they were both asked about issues like blacklives matter and shooting unarmed black people and clinton gave SUCH a better answer, thoughtful, nuanced etc. and trump yabbered on and on about law and order and stop and frisk and how all african americans were living in hell in inner cities etc and had no idea what he was saying. he also was investigated by the dept of justice because his housing projects were denying rentals systematically to black people. we now have a president who was literally under federal investigation, and settled out of court, for being a bona fide racist.
also trump hiring a black woman is laughable. you are literally citing the outcome of a reality tv show competition as some evidence that he isnt a racist. that we even have to cite the actions of a reality TV figure, who is now somehow an actual real life president, is sickening to me.
I don’t want to go completely off the point of the thread, but native Americans came from somewhere else too (the jury is out on where, the DNA evidence isn’t clear), just much much earlier than everyone else. I don’t know if kidnapping and forced relocation from Africa is immigration in terms of semantics. But I think the evidence of the campaign is that Trump doesn’t discriminate – he hates pretty much every group bar his own (which does not include any women if course; or maybe just Ivanka).

Huh? Literally every group except Native Americans came over here from somewhere. African Americans, as the name implies, came over from Africa at some point in their history.
Most African Americans ancestors didn’t immigrate to the U.S. They were sold to the U.S. Immigration is something active that people do voluntarily. Being brought over in shackles against their will doesn’t qualify as immigration. Like, if a person is Kidnapped, brought over the border by their Kidnappers where they are kept in chains and raped and forced to work and whipped- would you describe them as an immigrant?

While neither party has done well by AAs, suggesting Donald Trump was better for their community is inane. The guy was once sued by the federal government for housing discrimination against minorities. Not exactly a rousing support for his views given his more recent appraisal of stop and frisk laws and refusal to condemn police brutality.
That, and if anybody thinks the idea of registering Muslims will stop at just Muslims, they apparently slept through every history class on the 20th century.

I started watching him this election season, and now I am a fan. He’s great.
I have grown to really like Seth during this election. But honestly, during this time of national grief, I would give my right arm for some Jon Stewart. I need him like a drug addict needs a fix.
I’ve always loved Seth. I think he’s genuinely smart, and funny. He’s not as hyped as a lot of the bigger late show guys – and most of the time, I find him a lot more amusing.
Seth Meyers was never high on my radar, but he encapsulated the feelings so many of us seem to have, and I don’t just mean in the USA. I was talking to my family yesterday in DownUnderLand, and they are equally incredulous at this ridiculous outcome of an election. When erudite newspapers’ main headline is WTF!!!!, you know that something in the water is rotten. I feel such hopelessness, and disappointment in a country, and a people who are so dear to my heart. I just have to hope (that magic word), that somehow or other we will keep on keeping on, and light will eventually shine at the end of what I suspect will be a very long, and very dark tunnel. For the moment I can only say, “Welcome to a Trump world, and God save all who have to live in it”! Rule of the lowest common denominator will commence shortly.
I also take comfort in the certain notion that somewhere in this great land a girl/woman is watching, and will one day lead this country into what it was always supposed to be. SHE is out there somewhere, and I can’t wait for HER day to come at last!
His “Closer Look” segments throughout this election cycle have been incredible! He’s great with political commentary.
Yes, they have! I have been watching them. When he first started his late night show, it didn’t feel genuine like he was trying to follow a formula. But once he got this format starting with “Closer look”, it shows how talented, funny and smart he is! I think He delivers really well.
If you go back and watch the clips from the 2011 WH Correspondents dinner, I honestly believe that was the defining moment when Trump decided to run, to show them they were wrong. Just watch his stone-cold face when Seth says he though Trump would be running “as a joke.”
I really think that is part of what galvanized Trump into actually doing this – he couldn’t stand being so publicly humiliated by Meyers and Obama.
He couldn’t even laugh at himself. He was visibly irate.
Seth filled the hole in my heart that was missing after Jon Stewart left.
We needed Jon and he just wasn’t there, except in anemic interviews. He needs a script and a set it seems. I missed him, and also Colbert as in the Report.
Jon Stewart gave his heart and soul for years. He told us he was done. Can we really fault him for not having anything left?
I think Seth is growing into the future Jon Stewart. But no one can fill the void of not having my boo Jon Stewart.
Yeah Noah is a terrible replacement for Jon. If they were smart they would have grabbed John Oliver or Samantha Bee before they got their own shows.

Why should liberals blame yet ANOTHER falsely accused woman attacked by crooked men? Bernie was the lefty Trump. He released ONE tax year, knowing as a guy he could get away with it. He was shockingly hypocritical over the crime bill he voted for. HE started the “crooked Hillary” meme that paved the way for Trump, even though fact checkers found her more honest than him, and they voted identically 93% of the time. He shouted promises but had no details at all. His “civil rights” record amounted to a march or two. He’s been slyly calling women sexist for decades. Bernie bros repeated rightwing conspiracies about Hillary as Bernie took his sweet time conceding and finally endorsing her. It was odd the way Bernie onlyever bkamed Democrat women for his problems—-it’s still more male than female. That’s just what I can think of before my coffee.
Anybody who wants to argue it’s not sexist has only to transpose either Bernie’s or Trump’s actions to a female candidate. No taxes? Blatant lies? Three marriages, five children? In Bernie’s case, no woman would survive his crime bill whopper.

It’s easy to idealize somebody who never actually had to be held over the flames in a presidential campaign. Clinton had plenty of flaws that contributed to this mess, sure, but they’re kidding themselves if they really think a Jewish socialist atheist with a lifelong political career to rifle through wouldn’t have run into his own share of obstacles in this election.

I can’t help but roll my eyes whenever I hear a rich, white guy ask Americans to try to sympathize with the loonies who voted this moron into power, to understand that they did so out of a place of fear. Fear of what, pray tell? The democrats aren’t threatening to deport their loved ones. The democrats aren’t threatening to repeal their right to marry their partners. How does trying to protect America’s most vulnerable people impede on their lives? Thanks to them, there are millions of Americans who are terrified that they’ll be attacked and killed for just BEING who they are, more than they were before.
