Joy-Anna Duggar, 19, is the new Duggar child to announce her courtship

joy1

Ugh, another Duggar courtship. Let’s hope this one doesn’t crash and burn because of Chester Molester Big Brother! Just days after Jinger Duggar married Jeremy Vuolo, Jinger’s younger sister Joy-Anna Duggar has started “courting.” Joy-Anna is 19 years old, and the chances are pretty good that this guy will be the only one she ever dates. They’ll probably be married by Valentine’s Day and then the Duggar family will cycle in the next child’s courtship. Here’s a photo of Joy-Anna with her new guy:

Joy-Anna Duggar, 19, has entered into a courtship with her friend of 15 years, Austin, the teen revealed on Tuesday’s special episode of Counting On: Jinger’s Wedding. Just weeks after older sister Jinger (Duggar) Vuolo tied the knot with her former pro soccer player husband Jeremy Vuolo in front of nearly 1,000 friends and family, Joy-Anna confirmed that she is now spending intentional time with Austin.

“Hey y’all! I’m Joy Duggar and this is Austin,” Joy-Anna said in a video on the Duggar family website.

“I just asked her to enter a courtship with me,” Austin told cameras as he sat beside Joy-Anna.

“And I said yes!” Joy-Anna added. “We’ve known each other for a long time.”

Austin chimed in, “Almost 15 years. I picked this spot because last time we were here together was August 1, 2015.”

‘There was a whole group of us that came up,” Joy-Anna explained. “And we were just hanging out and it was really late at night, stars were just gorgeous. For me that’s really special, but then just being with him. And then now it’s even more special because it’s where we start our courtship.”

“It’s a place that I’ve come many times to just get away and spend time with the Lord,” Austin explained of the location that he chose. “I just knew that this was the place that I wanted to ask her.”

Joy-Anna then stated that she was “surprised” when he asked. “I hadn’t been here in so long. I was not expecting this. So happy.”

[From People]

Well… I’m searching for something nice to say. At least it’s not like she’s being sold off to some guy she barely knows. It’s clear that they have the same group of friends and they’ve known each other a long time, which sounds surprisingly typical for how teenagers actually date. Still, the fact that she’s probably going to be expected to marry this guy is what bugs me. That and how Jim-Bob and Michelle announce the courtship in a YouTube video. How embarrassing.

Anything to keep their family in the spotlight.

  2. Lightpurple says:

What is with this family and ice cream concoctions? They are making ice cream sordid. Protect the ice cream!

  3. shannon says:

Omg. Their poor kids! I would have died of my parents did that when I started dating.

  4. Suzy from Ontario says:

They are so creepy, and the things they say about their kids are so interchangeable. “You are so precious”…can Michelle ever not say that? I hate that everyone just expects them to marry, and probably soon. I mean Jinger and Jeremy only “courted” for a few months before getting engaged and then married a few months after that. They have no opportunity to live their lives before marrying and immediately getting pregnant because they don’t believe in any kind of birth control. Most girls her age would be looking at college and going out on dates and trying to figure out what she wants to do with her life… but in the Duggar house, her life is mapped out from the moment she is born female: stay at home wife and mother. No higher education beyond homeschooling. No dating. No independence at all. It’s like they only had kids to fulfill their own agenda. Jim Bob and Michelle chose this lifestyle but their kids have no real choices. They may say the kids are choosing to follow the courting rules or choosing not to go to university, but it’s clear to anyone with half a brain that those rules are ironclad and there is no free will in that home, only obedience to Jim Bob. I think it’s terribly sad to have children and not want them to be all they can be…not nurture their individuality, but instead crush their spirit until they all speak the same, believe the same, act the same, like robots.

    • polonoscopy says:

You’re right Suzy, they DID only have children to fulfill their own agenda. The Quiverfull movement, which they are apart of, expressly states that the purpose of Christian men and women is to bare as many children as possible to outnumber the “non-Christians”. So… Make America White and Jesus-y again.

    • Wiffie says:

Joy-Anna looked down and totally blank faced when Michelle talked about her future. And is so obvious at the end she got a little pinch or nudge in the back to look happy and smile nicely. 😒

  5. BonnieJean says:

Joy-Anna is a cutie. Very pretty girl. Looks like all the girls are cutting in line to get out of the nest.

  6. FreeJana says:

So when will Jana finally be able to leave? I am aware that none of the duggar kids actually leave if they remain in the fundamentalist circle, but still. Mullet Duggar looks like a lazy a– mother for keeping her oldest daughter as an unpaid nanny to the younger part of her breed.

    • Mel M says:

I was thinking the same thing when I saw the headline. Joy is 19 and Jana is what? She’s gotta be late 20’s right? That poor girl just sitting there raising her siblings while all of her other siblings are being married off and at least they somewhat get to start their own lives.

      • FreeJana says:

Jana is 27 in January. Not to say that that’s old in the normal world, but for the fundies’ standards it is. It is more than obvious that they are keeping her at home so that the Mullet has help. Although I think jana’s twin brother is also not getting married. If he gets married years before Jana we’ll that would be a shitty move from the child abusers aka the duggs

    • moomoo says:

Maybe Jana and her twin are both gay and thus deemed unfit for marriage.

I mean, with all those kids *at least* one of them has got to be gay!

      • lkj says:

If their parents found out they’d be the first to mary them off imo. To an equally “ex-gay” partner ideally.

  7. Shambles says:

Are we going to be forced to endure this for the next 40 years as each of their 658 children comes of age?! Jesus.

And of course Michelle is wearing a freaking apron in that video. It probably has “make America Great Again” embroidered somewhere on it.

    • pinetree13 says:

LOL that was my thought. By the time the last Duggar is married off, the children of the FIRST duggar child will be old enough to get married by their standards (seriously!)

      • Lucky Charm says:

The oldest grandkid (Josh’s daughter) is actually older than Josie, the youngest Duggar child. It could be a double Duggar wedding, what a ratings booster!

  8. Jess says:

What about the older one who isn’t married? Is she too old now, at like 24 she missed her chance!? Can’t remember her name now and too lazy to google, there was a tabloid claim that her parents don’t want her to marry since she helps so much around the house and with the kids.

    Edit-Jana!

    • Susan P says:

Maybe Jim Bob is keeping her for him, I know that sounds horrible, but he is such a creep I wouldn’t doubt it.

  9. sherry says:

Every time I see one of these Duggar girls “courting” I keep thinking about the poor oldest daughter who’s still living at home with JimBob and Michelle and taking care of her younger siblings. The last time I heard anything about her, JimBob was trying to match her up with Tim Tebow. Then I heard she wanted to go away to college like one of her brothers, but was denied by JimBob.

When will she be able to get out, go to college and start a life for herself that doesn’t involve taking care of JimBob and Michelle’s kids?

I want her to stand up for herself!

  10. Erinn says:

They must buy eyeliner in bulk. I find all the girls look the same – and they’re cute enough I guess. But they all seem to have the same look and style that it’s just ehh. Once you’ve seen one, you’ve essentially seen them all.

The guy’s kind of cute though. And… as for something nice to say, at least he’s a friend. It never hurts to have a friendship first – so it’s at least possible that they’ve got the same goals and interests.

  11. Colleen says:

    It’s all so awkward!

  12. Locke Lamora says:

Apparently his family was on World’s Strictest Parents and they are crazier than the Duggars. Poor girl.

  13. Juniper says:

Well- she looks thrilled. That has got to be one of the creepiest videos I’ve seen in a while. Pimping their children’s abnormal dating life out to the public – it’s all just so gross.

  14. Evie says:

They announce these courtships like they’re getting engaged. It’s so strange. It seems like their parents are churning out wedding after wedding just to make money.

    • lkj says:

Because it’s a done deal the second they meet. There’s no backing out, unless the other kid resigns like the one who dumped one of the Duggar girls after her brother’s pedo stuff came out.

  15. Chaine says:

To me, if a potential mate starts talking about “the Lord,” that is such a red flag. Plus nowadays it makes me think of Scott Disick, which just to the ick.

  16. Anastasia says:

She doesn’t speak at ALL in that video. I find that sad.

  17. Tia says:

I always figured Josh’s abuse of Jana went further so according to their rules she can’t marry because she’s ‘spoiled goods’ and no longer ‘pure’ (i.e. a virgin). I mean this is a group that blames women for being molested so I have no doubt if this is the case, her lack of virginity would be seen as a conscious choice on her part (if she hadn’t tempted him…….). JimBob and Michelle probably see themselves as incredibly lenient for not throwing her out on the street.

    Bleuch.

    • Lisa says:

I’m always wondered why she never had much to say about it. The whole Josh thing that is…when she was interviewed about it on the show she was really tore up about it but I think that was after the whole Ashley Madison hacking! I thought we were only sure he did something to Jill and Jessa because they were the only ones who came forward and said “Yea it was us we forgave him” which I find pure craziness! The other NON family that was molested was still a minor I though when the allegations came to the public eye. As for the other 2 sisters that were molested I was never sure who or which ones they were,

ALSO I find it odd the guys are nice and comfy at home but the girls are hurrying to get married and out of the family home ASAP! Makes you wonder what family scandles we don’t know about yet! or will we know about them? Someone else also mentioned JimBob wanting to keep Jana for himself…that honestly wouldn’t surprise me either even though that is completely disgusting to think but look what they kept hidden that Josh did to their daughters

  19. Jerkface says:

These people are Trumpers and should be boycotted in every way for a multitude of reasons. The See Eye Aye are the only people that need to know the moves of this faction of effing sum a beaches.

  20. Harryg says:

“Courting”? Really? It’s nearly 2017. They are SO CREEPY it makes me ANGRY.

  21. NeoCleo says:

I usually don’t comment or click on these people but I just wonder WHYYYYY they are still a “thing.”

  22. Dani says:

I just wanna go to Arkansas and break in to their house and free all those girls. Seriously. Poor Jana. I just want that girl to run away and never look back.

  23. Victoria says:

I finished reading Jon Kraukeur’s “Under the Banner of Heaven” and it was very informative on the fundamentalist Mormon sect and quite disgusting. Is there a book about these Quiverfull folk?

    • PJ says:

Victoria, try “I Fired God”. It is a heartbreaking memoir by a eomsn woman who, In adulthood, along with her husband a.dactually thei 9 children, escaped the same Fundie church in AK that the Duggars attend.

I discovered it last year and boy, did it pull the blinders off for me and remove any illusions I had about the “wholesome” “aww shucks” schtick that these people promote and want you to believe about their lives-see Josh Duggar. (She said she could only bring herself to watch a single episode of their show because she saw a reflection of her younger self in all of the girls and felt she was reliving their (secret) pain when she looked into their eyes and heard all the code language being used. It’s chilling.)

  24. Lucky Charm says:

They’ve been courting for a while. From that picture, I doubt he’d be wearing a short sleeve t-shirt in the mountains in November and the landscape/sky looks more like summer. My guess is August 1st since they made a point to specify the importance of that date to them. Since Jinger’s courtship wasn’t announced until just before her engagement, I wouldn’t be surprised if they announce Joy’s engagement in January when Counting On returns. After Josiah’s failed courtship they seem to not announce it until they’re close to engagement.

  25. Jenn4037 says:

Sex. S. E. X. These girls court then marry then reproduce. They’ve been sexually repressed and can only explore sexuality once they’re married. I’m not surprised at all.

    • Lex says:

And they don’t really explore their sexuality then I don’t imagine. They lie down when their husband wants some. None of them know much about anatomy as they were “””homeschooled””” so I would believe that they don’t know sex should be enjoyable for women.

  26. Sunshine Gold says:

    The dad is the creepiest.

  27. PJ says:

I challenge any one of these Fundamentalists to share a single, vocal train of thought that doesn’t include “the Lord” in it but, they can’t. (Dude couldn’t even mention that he enjoyed a beautiful spot in nature without somehow finding a way to drag God into it.)

But then for these people, that is the tragic point. Most like the Duggar’s grow up without being allowed to read ANY books that aren’t religious tomes (any type of magazine is strictly forbidden), watch television of any kind, listen to secular music, see movies, no matter how innocent (Michelle even forbade Disney films as she said, roughly: “talking animals represent the devil’s work and confuse the children as God did not create animals to speak”), and for the girls, they aren’t ever, EVER, allowed to leave the house without a sibling chaperone/”accountability partner” in tow, no matter how great the age/age disparity (27 year old Jana must still take a sibling as young as 10 along with her should she choose to do so much as run an 5 min errand).

My point is, none of these people has any reference to anything in life as all so, the fact that they say courting is a time to “really get to know each other”? How??? The literally can and do ONLY DISCUSS GOD and their faith with each other because that’s the only thing they know of. Can you imagine? Every.Single.Conversation. they have is about God. It’s depressing.
