Tom Hiddleston in talks to star in an adaptation of Frank Miller’s ‘Hard Boiled’

Here are some photos of Tom Hiddleston outside of Jimmy Kimmel’s studio last week, sorry I didn’t post them sooner! I was waiting for an interesting piece of Hiddles news, like some gossip about Tom secretly meeting up with Taylor Swift or something. I have no idea if that’s happening, nor do I know if Tom is still in LA, or if Swifty is in LA or whatever. Don’t look at me, I’m not stalking either of them! Anyway, now that Tom has wrapped on Thor: Ragnarok, he’s looking for his next big project. Perhaps another collaboration with Ben Wheatley, who directed Tom in High Rise? Perhaps. Apparently, Wheatley wants to adapt Frank Miller’s graphic novel Hard Boiled, with Hiddles to star.

Warner Bros is negotiating to acquire the Frank Miller and Geof Darrow comic book Hard Boiled, with the studio poised to set Free Fire‘s Ben Wheatley to adapt and direct. The film will be a co-production between Solipsist Films and Hollywood Gang, produced by Stephen L’Heureux, Bernie Goldmann and Gianni Nunnari. Solipsist did Miller’s Sin City, and Hollywood Gang did Miller’s 300.

Miller’s got those credits and Darrow also is widely considered one of the great artists of his generation, and the third big brain on the Matrix films, which he helped the Wachowskis design. Hard Boiled debuted in 1990 and focuses on insurance investigator Carl Seltz, who learns that he’s really a homicidal cyborg tax collector codenamed Nixon. A fellow robot informs him that he’s the last hope for their race to escape their programmed slavery.

Deadline hears that while all the deals have to be made on Hard Boiled, Warner Bros is looking for Ben Wheatley to develop the action film as a potential vehicle for The Avengers and The Night Manager star Tom Hiddleston. We should know soon how all this works out.

[From Deadline]

You can read the Wiki page for Hard Boiled here if you want a better idea about the story. I actually enjoyed some of the Frank Miller-film adaptations, like 300 and Sin City, and I do think Tom Hiddleston does well in heavily-stylized worlds. The “Nixon” character is a ginger in the comics, so Tom wouldn’t even have to dye his hair or wear a wig. Although Tom does seem too pretty for a gritty, weird, dystopian role. Who knows?

Meanwhile, Tom is now in the “semi-final round” of voting for British GQ’s Best Dressed Man of the Year. Tom is going head-to-head with David Gandy. Um, you guys? David Gandy is a better dresser. Gandy actually loves clothes and puts a lot of thought into his style and trends. Tom wore the same f—king boots and quilted jacket for months of pap strolls. You decide!

I was waiting for this. I don’t know anything about the comic but I saw 300 and I liked it. I think tom can play deranged characters pretty good.
Anyway Tom won against this gandy guy(whoever he is), he is in final now.
And no tom is not in LA now, pic from fb showed his landing in hithrow airport. He is home.

  2. tundra says:

And he looks good in those pics.

  3. Lightpurple says:

Studios have pursued Hard Boiled before without success but I really hope this works out. I really liked what Ben and Tom did with High-Rise. They work well together.

  4. Sixer says:

I need LEGS to do something funny. Stat.

    • tundra says:

@sixer yes that would be great. His bill hazeldine character was hilarious!

    • Lightpurple says:

Apparently he and his small mountain of luggage for 5 items of clothing are back on your side of the pond. Perhaps he and THAT CAMILLA will resume their torrid affair and be found out by The Mirror or The Sun? Or he’ll run into The JArthy at the coffee shop again and the Fail will have video and lots of speculation about “The Mystery Woman”

    • Lightpurple says:

Veering sideways here, Hillary Clinton has been spotted buying books in the same area as the fudge swan tea joint.

  5. huh says:

Gawd that movie sounds really epic! Not with Tom tho. Really don’t enjoy watching him.

  6. tundra says:

ok back from wiki page. Story takes place in LA. hmm, I would like see how he pulls out the accents.
Will he beef up for this character? That will be good too. 😉
Now tom as Android, something I ‘d like too see.

  7. spidey says:

If they do this I just hope it is better than High-Rise.

    • Lacia Can says:

Yeah, it’s not like High-rise was a huge hit. It was a polarizing film – people either loved it or were bored/confused. It was one of a series of poor role choices for TH, which led to Tiddles this summer. TH needs to either accept he’s not capable of carrying a Hollywood film on his own (he does great in ensemble films) or to pick better movies. Of course, maybe he’s not getting great offers. That’s certainly possible. We on Celebitchy love him but it’s not universal.

      • spidey says:

Agreed, nobody knows if he has even received other offers. And he may be a good actor but he doesn’t really fit a particular mould.

      • Lightpurple says:

High-Rise was never intended for mass consumption. The producers went with small distribution and VOD release in several countries the same day as theatrical release. To Jeremy Thomas, it was more like a labor of love to the novel.

    • spidey says:

Will be interesting to know if the theatre job will materialise too.

  8. Emmet says:

Waiting for a nice post about TH to able to say finally saw “High Rise” and that was some sick fun.

Hello to @Sixer and the rest – where is @Lilac, is that lightpurple reborn?

  9. Chef Grace says:

He does like the roles that are different.
Good. I look forward to seeing him in different roles, even though I did not like ISTL. His singing was grating.
    Want to see High Rise.
Has he been officially announced to be in The Infinity Wars or is that just fandom wishful thinking? I never could find anything about him being in it.

    • Lightpurple says:

Marvel has barely confirmed anyone beyond Josh Brolin for Infinity Wars. They have said Ragnorak puts things in motion for Infinity. Given that only Chemboy spent more time on set, it would seem Loki’s role is substantial and would have some carryover to Infinity Wars. To date the only characters in the MCU to have dealings with Thanos are Gamora, Nebula, and Loki.

Tom is rumored to be returning to the stage in The Ferryman, which is sold out.

Personally, I like that he mixes small independent films with blockbusters. The small films don’t get seen by everyone but they allow more creativity and a greater display of range instead of the typecasting that can occur in more mainstream fare. I like that he takes chances and challenges himself. OLLA and High-Rise are two of my favorite movies from the past few years and he did a great job with ISTL; he wasn’t the problem with that small film.

    • SusanneToo says:

He did a great job channeling Hank Williams in ISTL, both in looks and singing.

20 comments on a TH story. Wow. what’s happening here.

  11. virginfangirl says:

Never made it all the way through High Rise but heard Wheatley has done some awesome stuff, so looking forward to this roll for Tom. I guess it would be bloody & gory.

  12. sage says:

He lost me when he hooked up with Taylor Swift. I will NEVER forget!

    • virginfangirl says:

Taylor’s getting some creds with her feud with Kanye, now that the public must finally accept he is struggling with some mental issues.

      • Madly says:

That is the rudest thing and coldest thing I have ever heard. The snake does not get any points just because Kanye is hurting. What an asshole thing to say.

      • virginfangirl says:

Taylor Swift dealt with a man who had a mental illness who was at times awful to her, and his mental health was largely ignored. I’ve been watching him for the past years, and have been saying that he has a mental illness, which was a gut feeling based on my own personal experiences. My daughter has a mental illness, and my husband and I find it disgusting that Kanye’s family and friends defended his actions, probably knowing full well he was at times delusional. My family have done all we can, with my daughters individual therapy, family therapy, and meds, and after 2 years she is doing great. I am not cold. But I know when a person is not healthy mentally the chaos that follows, and the pain they suffer, but also the pain that those around them suffer. Looks like finally someone stepped up to get him the help he needs.

      • Madly says:

Going by those snap chat videos, they were on friendly terms. This whole drama re-started because SHE lied. He may or may not have a mental illness, but that does not excuse her part in this mess at all. Don’t know if what you are saying about yourself and your family is true, but it reaks of damage control to your previous insensitive comment. Kick rocks.

      • virginfangirl says:

Kanye embarrassed Taylor on stage during an awards show and was beyond rude. He made a video with her posed nude in bed. No doubt, that was a really awful thing to do. And the lying thing is up for debate, as her argument was he only told her half the lines in that song.
My daughter was first diagnosed with a mood disorder. We tried Lamictal, then added Abilify. Plus therapy. After one year of our family going through HELL, we found a child psychologist who slowly took her off all meds and diagnosed her with anxiety, panic attacks, and depression. New med (zoloft), fish oil, and lots of therapy, and now she is doing really well. So yeah, unfortunately it’s true.

      • virginfangirl says:

        Meant child psychiatrist.

      • Annetommy says:

I hope that progress continues, it sounds very tough.

      • Madly says:

They had already apologized to each other for that and each sang ridiculous songs over it. those snap chat videos showed a friendly exchange. Which is why her comments and reaction was ridiculous and designed for drama. But of course you are twisting history just so the snake is not in the wrong.

Sorry but you seemed to have learned nothing by your experience. If what you say is true then you should know that no one should be poking and prodding someone who is unstable just to keep the drama and their name on the press, which is something she is kNOWN for. Your insensitive remarks are not going to win here. Bummer for you swiftie. Now really, kick rocks.

  13. mridha says:

    I hope it is true.

  14. spidey says:

Re The Ferryman at the Royal Court – it is sold out but no cast list yet? 😕

    • jetlagged says:

It’s announced run at the Royal Court is only 30 days (give or take) and the theater seats less than 400 people – it wouldn’t take much for it to sell out, especially with Mendes and Butterworth involved. Sonia Friedman is producing, that might be a strong indicator they are planning on taking it to the West End, and/or Broadway after the initial run.

  15. TotallyBiased says:

I didn’t particularly enjoy High Rise, but I am impressed with it as a work of cinematic art. Did really appreciate certain moments. LOVED Only Lovers Left Alive –it is one of my favourite movies. Can’t watch I Saw the Light without crying. Know folks who remember Hank (saw him live –they’re old!) and were very impressed with Tom’s performance.
As has been said before, he deliberately mixes it up with his roles between tentpole flicks and indies. I think he has made some great choices, even in the films that are less to my taste.
