Brad Pitt tells fans to ‘move on’

To promote Inglourious Basterds at the Cannes Film Festival, Brad Pitt sat down with Today’s Ann Curry. In the interview, Brad thanks his fans for their goodwill towards him, but tells his fans to “move on”. Some are describing this as rude, but I think it’s a totally valid criticism from Brad to the people that love him and the people who don’t. Of course, I read the tabloids. The caricature the tabloids and gossip sites have created of Brad is pretty harsh, and I don’t think Brad telling all of us to “move on” is going to help. People Magazine, who is usually stuck far up Brad and Angelina’s backsides, is describing the part of the interview where Brad discusses Angie as “skittish”. Hmm.

In other Brangelina news, last night the two attended an “intimate dinner” for sixty people to celebrate the premiere of Inglorious Basterds:

Brad Pitt took Angelina Jolie to celebrate with his friends at an intimate dinner – for 60.

On Tuesday, the power pair dined at the Michelangelo in Cap D’Antibes for the special meal on the eve of Pitt’s big movie premiere at the 62nd Cannes Film Festival.

The stars and the crew of Inglourious Basterds – including director Quentin Tarantino, Diane Kruger (with boyfriend Joshua Jackson), Emile Hirsch and Daniel Bruhl – dined on pasta with crayfish, ravioli with truffles, spaghetti with clams, and round pasta with garlic sausage, washed down with Dom Perignon. Also in the restaurant: Twilight’s Robert Pattinson.

The dinner date came soon after Jolie arrived from Holland, where she had observed a war crimes trial. On Wednesday, Pitt starred at a press conference at the Palais. Later in the day, he and Jolie are expected to walk to red carpet for the unveiling of his WWII, in which he plays an American soldier from rural Tennessee, as Pitt told Ann Curry in a Today show interview live from Cannes on Wednesday.

Staying Nearby
“The dinner was a private event for the entire cast of Quentin Tarantino’s film,” a member of the restaurant staff tells PEOPLE. “They all had a wonderful time. Angelina and Brad were lovely, the loveliest people I have ever met!”

The eatery is a familiar haunt for Pitt, who was seen there with pal George Clooney during promotion for their Ocean’s movies. Pitt and Jolie are staying nearby, in a house on the grounds of the exclusive Hotel du Cap.

In his Today interview, Pitt – dressed by designer Tom Ford and sporting an ascot – talked about his Inglourious Basterds movie character (surprisingly heartless), his being named one of Time magazine’s 100 Most Influential People for his work building houses in New Orleans (“It’s working down there,” he said), and his life right now (“Still about discovery and finding new interests”).

But he grew visibly skittish when asked about Jolie, though he did credit their children for his life being on track, because being at home with them, he said, is both satisfying and gratifying.

[From People]
LaineyGossip has more details about how Brad and Angelina were behaving during the dinner, writing: “He was overhead telling someone today at the palais actually that he “promised his kids Saturday morning”… Inside the restaurant during dinner: barely any makeup but her skin was glowing. She’s thin, not her thinnest, but she’s thin. Am told Angie seemed tired, at one point leaning her head against his shoulder as he stroked her back. She had a glace of wine, he beer, and towards the end she looked up at him and he rubbed her cheek with his thumb, like ok baby let’s put you to bed now.”

So, is this all for show? Have Brad and Angelina already decided to split, and they’re just going to walk one last red carpet for old times sake? Or was the three-month tabloid freakout over Brangelina’s demise just something cooked up by editors in need of a good cover?

That’s cute how the restaurant staff is peeking at the celebs

  2. H says:

When I watched I thought he said move on because he wanted to stop talking about himself and get back to the movie not telling the fans to move on. Just my take.

  3. t says:

I agree with your take, H. He wanted to stop talking about himself and move on to another question about the movie.

I thought it was bizarre how the reporter touched his cheek and his arm and shoulder (at least I think that was her hand) during the interview.

  4. SolitaryAngel says:

@H: That was my impression, too–that he was uncomfortable talking about his appeal to other women, and simply wanted Ann to choose a different topic.

I really like these two together–I do not consider myself a Brangeloonie, and it takes 2 to tango so I don’t blame her for wrecking a marriage; sometimes you meet the right person while you’re with the wrong one.

THAT said, with all the recent harsh treatment (in the tabloids)of these two over the past months, do we really blame him for getting ‘skittish’ when AJ is mentioned? I think most of us who can look at this couple objectively understand that “they’re damned if they do and damned if they don’t”. I don’t blame him a BIT for not giving the vultures any more ammo for their musings.

  5. j. ferber says:

She probably touched him unconsciously and who could blame her? At least she kept it clean. Brad must be used to it.

  6. Tess says:

Freudian slip. Moving on is on his mind.

    Regarding Ann Curry, the interviewer:
    What an ass.

  7. ima says:

Why the heck was the interview sooooo looooong? They just kept rehashing the same things over and over. Also, I think that he was asking Ann Curry to “move on” from the topic of his looks/influence and get back to the movie (for the eighth time), not asking his fans to move on.

  8. sonia says:

Ann is a poor interviewer she talks over people like Charlie Rose. I wish they had sent Matt. Her fawning over him was unprofessional

  9. Helen says:

He stroked her back. He rubbed her cheek with his thumb. That was so sweet. They are so sweet and loving to each other. Don’t sound like a seperation to me.
I agree with H, sounds like that’s what he means to me. Such a loving father. He loves his family so much.

  10. gigantor says:

If you don’t want the media to ask you about your personal life, then maybe you shouldn’t have whored it out to the media in the past every time you had a film out. It’s not exactly Rocket Science, but then Bradders ain’t exactly a Rocket scientist!

  11. HashBrowns says:

Anne Curry is a moron. This interview made me squeamish. All of the news people are still harping on about how gorgeous and down to earth he is and it’s like, dude is almost 50 years old, will you give it a rest?

I think he just wanted to move on to a different subject-I don’t think he was talking directly to any fans. He was just telling Anne Curry’s annoying butt to move on to a new topic because this one was really really old news.

  12. Pufft says:

The only criticism I have about this interview is that the reporter, Curry, seems ‘taken’ by Pitt. Notice the hand on his shoulder followed by high school giggles? And again the hand on his cheek? She boasts his ego throughout the interview (“you were named one of the most influential people”, “People magazine’s most beautiful more than once”, “ you really are more humble than people realize”, “a lot of women are really envious of me because I get to stand here and talk to you”). Get over him already and start acting like a professional Curry. You’re a reporter, not a screaming fan. Glad he told her to move on. Also, her questions, which mostly consisted of her opinions on nothing, were long and winding, and mostly ended with Brad interrupting her.

Keeping in mind that Brad is generally a private person, what did she expect him to answer to the questions, are you satisfied with your life, are you settled, are you happy?

The short of it: this interview was too long considering they spoke about nothing.

  13. nick says:

Move on was “lets move on to something else” which he’d politely asked her to do several times already.

She touched him a LOT. It was very unprofessional and completely innappropriate unless they are actually friends. No matter where he looked off to, she leaned into his line of view. It was painfull to watch for her.

  14. Mairead says:

Sorry Kaiser, my silly cabbage, but you did pick up on this wrong – his words were “Let’s move on” and had turned back to Ms. Simpering up there when he said it. LOL @ Nick.. I noticed that too – a beard-seeking missile or what?

I don’t think he was being skittish talking about his personal life, he was being decidedly uncomfortable. And with barfsome quotes about them like that mawkish drivel quoted from Lainey, I wouldn’t blame him. Ugh.

But did anyone else notice that this is possibly the most articulate interview he’s given to date?

  15. Thatbird says:

That woman is the worst interviewer I’ve seen in a while. She just doesn’t shut up. Oughta remember who the focus of the interview is…very annoying.

  16. DD says:

I didn’t watch the interview but I’m glad to hear he tried to put a kibosh on her fawning. That is the reason why these two were looking so ridiculous.

  17. Thatbird says:

And the ‘move on’? That was from him to the silly woman…’move on to the next (hopefully not as idiotic) question’. Yeesh. Ya know, up here in Canada, that woman violated his privacy at least three times – hands on body/face. Notice how he kept his arms crossed repeatedly? I’d be surprised to see him allow another interview with her.

  18. N.D. says:

“But did anyone else notice that this is possibly the most articulate interview he’s given to date?”

I think he really shined because of the inerviewer, she was too lost in drooling and did’t really make much sence blabbing her “questions”. They didn’t even come out like questions most of the time, more like random quotes and comments. While Brad was sober one and made efforts to stay on topic and talk about his movie in a more rational manner.

  19. Wow says:

I agree with Brad. Some of these fans are obsessive and fanics. Arguing and “teaming” over issues that aren’t even relevant anymore. A bit scary.

Edited: Wait. Did she seriously grab his face? WTH? I just watched the video and I stand corrected. Curry was out of hand. But I do still feel like some fans are obsessive about his love life though.

  20. Enonymous says:

God, all these brown nosing and ass licking towards (not just from this reporter but from anyone who lusts after) Brad and Angelina is nauseating and uncomfortable to watch.

  21. Katharine Jaynes says:

I agree with everyone who said Ann Curry was all over Brad. She was fawning over him.

Brad should have probably seen the film before he gave the interview. “Move on” when they’ve already exhausted questions discussing the film…

Why do reporters constantly rehash the same questions? As a journalist and reporter are these really the best questions she could think of asking him?

  22. jeannified says:

I don’t know…this doesn’t look good at ALL! I love Brad and Angie together, but he seemed overly sensitive, something he is normally NOT! I hope we don’t hear after Cannes, that they decided to break up! It would be very sad!

  23. Casey says:

I thought it was actually painful to watch. She was so unprofessional and acted like a high school girl.

I agree with all the others, that “move on” was meant to change the subject and steer away from his personal life. He just wasn’t comfortable with her and I can certainly understand why. He’s in Cannes to promote his movie and he wanted to talk about that. Simple concept Ann.

  24. jojo says:

Come on you guys!! It is so obvious that he is telling her to move on to a different question!! Jeeez!

  25. Kaiser says:

    Re: “move on”

I actually thought he was saying “move on” in general, to Ann, to everyone, etc. but someone at Today sent this is in with a note saying Brad was “rude” for telling fans to “move on”.

Meh. Ann Curry does suck, doesn’t she? Both Angie and Brad give her exclusive interviews all the time, and I have no idea why. They should go with Diane Sawyer exclusively.

  26. Cinderella says:

He seemed pretty damn happy, but she was making him so uncomfortable with her fawning. That would make anyone cringe.

  27. BOGART4017 says:

Ann Curry’s lack of objectivity is so blatant that she should be reporting for a fanzine. This from WNBC? Bring back Bryan Gumbel.

  28. Miriam says:

Check out these pictures of Brad and Angelina at the Red carpet! She looks amazing.

  29. Len says:

He is happy. Now it would be nice if he could be left alone by a certain person and her fans.

  30. OIC says:

Jeannifield how long have you been best friends with Brad Pitt? I thought so. You really sound rediculus. Bet you see pink elephants to.

  31. whatever says:

I agree w/ Brad and wow. Who cares about their personal lives anymore. They are old news. And, the people still stuck on the “team” crap are beyond stupid. That was 5 yrs ago–way to keep up w/the times.

  32. Anna P says:

Folks should move on. After all this time some rags can’t run a story about them unless they drag “poor Jen” into it. Star and In Touch go way overboard with the personal attacks.

  33. Amy says:

This title and story is false. Don’t people watch the videos or read quotes before posting a story? Brad was obviously talking to Ann about moving on to another topic. Brad was clearly uncomfortable with Ann saying how hot he is and touching him. Brad even responded to a personal question saying something like “now let’s talk about the movie”.

  34. anastasiabeaverhausen says:

Yep, he was uncomfortable with Curry saying lots of women would be jealous of her right now talking to him and what would he say to them? Really putting him on the spot and making him into more of a sex object. I can’t believe she grabbed his face like that. Wow. Awkward.

  35. michellle says:

So where’s the footage of QT’s interview?

  36. Chicamorena says:

“So, is this all for show? Have Brad and Angelina already decided to split, and they’re just going to walk one last red carpet for old times sake? Or was the three-month tabloid freakout over Brangelina’s demise just something cooked up by editors in need of a good cover??”
    *********************************************

Did you really have to ask that question? Aniston’s own representative has been debunking the bullshit about secret meetings as soon as the tabloids printed them. Or has it still not registered with you that the tabloids will print anything to sell magazines?

  37. Chicamorena says:

Oh dear God, this is so freaking old. Why don’t you take Brad’s advice and move on?

  38. Tess says:

    @ Bogart:
“Ann Curry’s lack of objectivity is so blatant…”

Her interview’s with politicians are completely biased, too.

If she interviews Dems they get a Brad Pitt suck-up. Repubs are treated like lepers, put on defense, grilled, skewered.

    No objectivity, just disdain.

It’s the hypocritical pretense of objectivity that’s bloody annoying. Wish so called “journalists” would just admit that most of them are loyal Dems and willing to bend journalistic ethics to put a good face on their party.

  39. HUH says:

chicamorena, I thought you were leaving this site?

    why are you still here?

  40. Ursula says:

When you have problems with your lover and an outsider asks you about them, it is inevitable that you will be skittish. I say it again, people in love after 4 years do not need to maul each other in public to show that they still have it. The body language of Brange tells its own story. They will probably stick it out another couple of years for the sake of the kids and publicity but eventually, it will not hold. They are both too narcissitic and self absorbed to make it last.

  41. Chicamorena says:

HUH, do you have too much time on your hands? You have anything better to do than track me? What’s it to you?

  42. HUH says:

chicamorena, I thought you were leaving this site?

    why are you still here?

(I guess I have as much time as you seeing as how you’re still posting here.)

  43. karen says:

HUh has been stalking Jolie all these years, so now she’s stalking her fans as well. I don’t have anything against Aniston, but her fans are freakin’ whack jobs.

  44. susan says:

i wish interviewers would stop asking about his personal life and ask more questions about the movie am sure brad is a nice man but go to see his films and want to know about them maybe ask why people should go to see the movie what it was about for him and would he go to see it if he wasnt in it and is the gist of the story… better questions than is he satisfied and what does he think about fanatical fans. and groping him… grosse more movie talk less tabliod questions please. thank you..

A significant amount of households currently have several autos these days, specifically those with older teenage children still residing at home, as well as the savings for policies can soon begin.
