Angelina Jolie has a lot of tattoos. She’s collected them since she was a teenager, although she’s had one or two lasered off, like the “Billy Bob” tattoo she had on her arm (she replaced it with the latitude-longitude of her kids’ birthplaces, I believe). When Angelina was with Brad Pitt, she got even more tattoos, and some of them were Brad-specific. I’ve actually been wondering about that “Whiskey Bravo” tattoo on her thigh, which is military-code for W.B., or William Bradley. Will she get that lasered off or just leave it? Who knows? But it seems that Angelina got a special tattoo for Brad just months before their split too:

At least she didn’t get “Brad” inked on her back. There is, nonetheless, a certain irony in Angelina Jolie having three ‘magical’ tattoos drawn on her back during a visit to Thailand to ‘bind her’ to husband Brad Pitt, just months before they split up. New photos, reportedly taken in February 2016, show Angelina’s back being branded with three large Thai ‘Sak Yant’ tattoos while Brad had a tattoo of a Buddhist symbol drawn on the left side of his stomach.
The work was done by a former monk and celebrated tattoo artist, Ajarn Noo Kanpai. The tats were applied using steel rods mounted with a surgical needle – a traditional process which, according to tattoo geeks, is supposedly more accurate than a regular tattoo gun. Its also painful—one initiate has described the sensation of having a Sank Yat tattoo done as “a bee sting, followed quickly by a swarm of bees launching a full-scale attack.”
Kanpai applied a shoulder blade tattoo to Jolie in 2003. He is the holy man of choice for celebrity tattoo-seekers, and has worked on a number of other famous skins, including model Cara Delevingne and actress Michelle Rodriguez. Alas the tattoos, which were traditionally applied to warriors to protect them in battle, and are believed to give the wearer magic powers associated with healing, luck, strength, and protection against evil, failed to work their magic on Pitt and Jolie, who split in September last year. The decorations were reportedly intended ‘to symbolically bind them as husband and wife’, so no wonder Pitt was surprised when his wife filed for divorce a few months later.
Well, it doesn’t sound like the tattoos were specifically about marriage. It sound more like a general protection/good vibe tattoo that could be interpreted many ways. Like, maybe her tattoo helped protect her and heal her after she filed for divorce. Who knows? My guess is that she won’t have this tattoo removed. Now, the Whiskey Bravo tatt? Perhaps. And now I’m wondering how many tattoos Brad has which are Angelina-related?

I’d like to know what the tattoo actually means. Is it like a sacred script or is it specific/individualized to her? Does it relate to marriage by itself, or is the “binding” thing just editorializing by other people?

The tattoos is about protection for the family is not about Brad, again British tabloids don’t know the fact of these tattoos. It was reported last year it was religious protection for her family, if it was true these tattoos are about Brad top tabloids in US will have reported this but this first come from Daily Mirror in UK. She showed her back when she was promoting her movie in Cambodia if she didn’t to be associated with Brad anymore she could’ve hide the tattoos.

I don’t understand why anyone gets a tattoo of something or somebody on his or her body and then decide to have it removed. If Angelina got a tattoo of Brad on her body was because that’s what she wanted at that time. Why regret it later? It is so stupid. She loved him then and there and that will be forever in her memory. Don’t go back on your feelings.

I think that’s why it’s more important to go with something not super literal, and more on the symbolic side of things.
I have a large doe tattoo on my leg – with flowers and a vine around it. I drew it myself and had it tattooed by a professional. My husband has a stag tattoo on his arm – it’s his family crest. If we suddenly broke up – I don’t have a giant tattoo of his name, but I have something that always was kind of symbolic/tied to him. And I adore the guy. If we break up – I’m not going to look at that tattoo and hate that I did it – because I made sure that it meant something to ME as well.
Why can’t you get rid of a tattoo if it does not bring you jsut happy thoughts? I get rid of clothing if its old and I associate it with something negative, having something on your skin would be worse. This is why I am not getting any tattoos.
You don’t divorce someone and have some nagavivity relating the event, otherwise you would still be together. Its not like the happy memories dissapear if you don’t have the tattoo (or in my case some dress) anymore.
Although a lot of their tattoos are about each other, they aren’t direct. Yes Whiskey Bravo is for Brad but it’s not the same as William Bradley. It can have a different interpretation. It’s a tattoo I could picture Angelina getting even if she wasn’t with Brad.

There were a couple of blinds out on a site that suggested that Hudson is pretty much “stalking” Pitt in an attempt to be photographed together. Maybe that’s what she was referring to?
In the bug eating/cooking video from earlier in the month, they showed her latitude/longitude tattoo. There are still seven coordinates, and underneath Brad’s coordinate a line with spiky things are drawn (they look like the same religious design as her back)

I notice though that she is no longer signing her name as Jolie Pitt, or putting Angelina Jolie Pitt on her articles or her name cards (the ones at press conferences for example).

I think Brad looks substantially physically better. Jolie looks substantially more put together. It may be the pre-post divorce reassessment many people go through. Clean up life and improve appearance. Drew Barrymore recently spoke about this in very respectful terms.

I agree about the children. They may be in transition now but will come to appreciate their parents separately. Also, The press seems to annoy most of them judging from the recent airport pics except maybe Knox and Zahara. Shiloh looks so miserable when the paps are there. Little wonder tho with all the stuff unfairly written about her.
AJ looks like she has gained some weight, and she looks a thousand times less anxious than she did when with Pitt. She looks glowing now. Who knows what living with him was like? Addicts/alcoholics are horrendius to live with, and I think he is an alcoholic from how crappy and bloated he looked before they split.

I think in general it’s stupid to get a tattoo of a partner’s name or whatever but if you have gotten one you should own it, even if the relationship is over. It’s part of your personal history.

I feel the same way. Angie doesn’t mess around and nothing communicates urgency and warning like a taste of finality. No, “I know, I messed up but I promise I’ll behave myself….. starting next week”. If Brad didn’t fully comprehend before he does now; Angie is really, REALLY, R-E-A-L-L-Y serious about THEIR childrens’ well-being.
I think it would be a bigger sign of progress had she left some of the children in LA. She hardly ever traveled alone with ALL 6 kids. She used to take a couple and leave the other with nannies and Brad.

The media probably doesn’t know about the tat on his stomach. I assume he is in the process of getting them removed…It would be awkward to start a new relationship with a bunch of tats dedicated to your ex wife.
Brad and Angelina have many tattoos dedicated to each other and their kids. So if they plan to remove them they’re going to be in a lot of pain. The have matching tattoos on their arms. I think it’s in Latin, I’m not sure and he also has her birthdate on his stomach and AMPZSKV on his arm.
Just wait, any angle that can be covered will be covered by the tabloids/ blogosphere. It is just that we’ve seen Brad very little since the divorce filing. See more Angie so therefore more photos and stories to make up to go with them.

Those tattoos are sak yant prayer tattoos and have nothing to do with Brad. Anyone can have them. Just like her hah taew tattoo is just a prayer. They are different forms of protection and prayers for wealth, luck, strength and success. She does have that Whiskey Bravo tattoo on her tight though. Which is funny because after Billy Bob she claimed she has learned the lesson and will NEVER tattoo mans name on her. Which she sort of never did but there we go. That tattoo is gonna get covered or lazered. And probably his birth place too.

I don’t know, the story might be from a British tabloid but the tattoo artist has talked to the media before. He’s sorta famous for doing these type of tattoos for celebrities and he’s clearly the one sharing the pics so I do believe the tattoos were to celebrate their union and family.
The fact that Pitt went with Jolie and also got a tattoo with the same ink indicates it was some sort of ritual. We all know by now that they both like strong statements when it comes to romance. It’s a bit of a juvenile trait that they both never lost but at least it’s not blood or some tacky name tattoo. I would keep the tattoos as the protection tattoos are about protecting family. Pitt is the one who has the most cringe tattoos: Jolie’s birthdate on his stomach, her initial on his arm, the lines on his back that she randomly drew and then the love poem on his bicep. Jolie only has Whiskey Bravo and his coordinates. The rest of them are also about their family so it’s not that bad.

I don’t really understand why people get a tattoo from a culture that’s not theirs. In my culture tattoos have a spiritual meaning, personally I feel a bit uncomfortable when other people from other cultures copy our tattoos because they hardly ever try to understand the meaning, it’s like listening to someone mimic your language without understanding it.
I don’t get it either. It’s actually sad that western people can’t acknowledge all of the amazing and wonderful things we’ve contributed to the world, and wouldn’t want to get a tattoo that celebrates our culture and heritage. But I guess it isn’t surprising as the media is relentless in demonizing it and demanding we hate ourselves and our ancestors. Such a shame as we have given the world like 99% of anything worthwhile.

This is why I don’t like their brand of celebrity charity work. Brad seems to be exploiting people who are most in need (I don’t think for money necessarily, but for street cred). Angelina’s work gets a veneer of legitimacy because UN, but we know that the UN is a huge kettle of fish of a problem on its own, especially on the upper eschelons where Angelina is.
I smell something fishy with Brad, and it’s not all Angelina. He’s like most celebrities with businesses, they are just not good with it because they can’t concentrate on one thing.
Lately he also seems to be taking on more acting job even when he and Angelina said they’re going to cut back for the sake of the kids.
He’s extremely image conscious. Everything is about how it makes him look. He said he was going to cut back on acting and focus more on producing, but production doesn’t keep him in the spotlight he craves. He got enormous mileage out of being the husband of the most famous actress in Hollywood and the doting dad of six beautiful multi-cultural children, but that image has been shattered probably beyond repair, so he has to fall back on Brad the Hollywood Superstar.

I miss him, for he was a terrific friend and almost felt like family (he spent his Thanksgivings with mine, and everyone in my family still tells people how Brad Pitt drove them in from the airport and stuff like that), but life goes on. It’s strange to me that in every interview he’s given and every silly biography of him that I’ve seen, he never mentions me or the 2 years he was with me. Some manager gets credit for putting him on ANOTHER WORLD. Odd. If someone knows the reason, let me know. Also curious: in the years he lived with me, he never once let anyone take his picture. All the family gatherings and pool parties and stuff that he was a major part of, he’d run the minute someone pulled out a camera. This from a guy who makes his living in front of cameras. Go figure.

I think Brad has always been like that, befriends some people for a while, and then simply get out of their lives. I think Melissa Ethredge has to learn that it’s not Angelina who changed Brad’s life and moved away from “friends” … it’s him who has no interest in her.
Not to mention that Brad from the beginning of his career knew where he wanted to go, and he knew that protecting the image in this career even more unconfirmed from a small town was very important.

I think lasering off a tattoo from an ex is a stupid idea, unless it was a terrible experience and you want to forget that person forever and ever. To me, you loved that person at the time and you got a tattoo to commemorate that, why not chalk it up to a time in your life, a past memory, and focus on the good that came out of it, even if it did end badly. I have a tattoo from my current SO and I would never cover it up or get rid of it, no matter if we last or not, that was a special time in my life and I have a tattoo to remind me of those times. Tattoos are memories, we should cherish them or not get them.
Angie won’t be lazering off any of her tats…. They are elements of her personal journal and she’ll wear them proudly just like she has all her mistakes and even then this thing with Brad is far from decided.
