J.Lo’s reality show gets the ax because of Jon & Kate Gosselin

Last year it was revealed that Jennifer Lopez and husband Marc Anthony were working on a reality show with TLC. They’ve had a lot of bumps along the way – mainly because J Lo wants the show to be just about her and her career/business ventures, whereas TLC wanted to show her as a mother and feature her twins. J Lo was an absolute on putting her kids in front of the camera. Now the show is completely dead – but not because of Jennifer’s demands. TLC has had so much success with “Jon & Kate Plus 8” (thanks in large part to all of their marital scandals) that they’ve passed on the J-Lo project all together.

Sources at TLC tell us the J.Lo reality show they wanted so badly a year ago is dead as a doornail, thanks in large part to the success of “Jon & Kate Plus 8.”

It was just a year ago that TMZ broke the story that J.Lo and TLC were trying to come to terms on a reality show but J.Lo was adamant that she would not put her kids on TV — she wanted to focus on … yawn … behind the scenes on creating a new J.Lo fragrance. TLC, we’re told, wanted to show the kiddies.

Fast forward to Monday night — Jon & Kate scored an astonishing 9.8 million viewers. TLC sources tell us it’s pretty clear the J.Lo ain’t gonna sell tickets anymore, so they have shelved the show. As one TLC source put it, “It was on life support for awhile, and now we’ve just lost interest.”

The moral — even big stars have their 15 minutes, so they should make the most of it while they can.

It’s funny because while “Jon & Kate” did get a record number of viewers, the season premiere also got a record number of terrible, horrible, awful reviews. No critics seemed to like it at all, which makes me wonder how stable the show really can be. But clearly TLC doesn’t see the need to invest in yet another “follow the famous family” show. Though in J Lo and Marc Anthony’s case, they were obviously already famous before their reality show, whereas the Gosselins are only famous because of theirs.

  1. I’d rather watch a blank TV screen then watch this couple.
    Thank heavens for small favors!

  2. What’s with that odd, ill-fitting pair of pants? Wasn’t this woman once a fashion icon?

  3. Most of the time, she wears really nice outfits. Anyway, I don’t think I’d want to watch her show (if like she ever got one)

I’m sorry, it’s admirable that she doesn’t want focus on her kids (just yet), but how interesting of a show can it be about her perfume-making? We can’t smell the failures and/or successes, so…

  5. JustMe, I’m with you.

her show sounds like it would be incredibly boring, but being the diva that she is, she probably figures that EVERY aspect of her life (even wiping her butt) would be absolutely FASCINATING to viewers.

Oh I think TLC is lying about this. They don’t want another disaster like the Jon and Kate show, that’s the truth. And J Lo would be an even bigger disaster. Can you even imagine trying to work with a diva like her on footage of her own life? Yikes.

  9. I live in England, I don’t really know anything about Jon and Kate and got bored of J-Lo about 6 years ago. However, comendable that she wasn’t up for using her children to get airtime.

  10. It is rare moment, but I must applaud J-Lo for standing her ground where it involves the twins. This is such an important developmental time, why shove cameras in their faces?

  11. I don’t know if critics liked the show before but critics and reviews are irrelevent. It’s about what the viewers want. That’s why those horrific reality shows on MTV and Vh-1 are still on. JLo seems really boring and high-maintenance. I doubt this show would have been successful with or without the kids.

  13. I’m so sick of celebrity reality shows….actually, I’m kind of sick of ALL kinds of reality and dating shows.

Plus, it seems like reality shows are breaking up relationships (Jon & Kate, Nick & Jessica Simpson, etc.). She should just keep the cameras out of her life ‘cuz I’m not interested in her day-to-day activities.

  14. If I recall correctly, they initially announced the TLC show right after she had the babies and she said that it was going to be a show about her business ventures AND being a working mother, but then there was such a huge outcry about her exploiting her kids (between this show and selling the first photos of the babies for millions) that she tried to backtrack and say that the show wouldn’t be about the kids at all. Sorry, but I just can’t give her credit for claiming now that she is choosing not to exploit the babies. And I really don’t think people are interested in her anymore. I’m not sure why they’d even consider a reality show with her.

  16. Phew! That was close. That’s the good news but the bad news…we’re still getting a Jessica Simpson reality show.

J-Lo, Gosselins, J.Simp - it’s like getting to choose a slow death or an even slower death.

  18. I just never really believed J-Lo would want a reality show. Isn’t that way beneath her?? It is so D-list.

  19. How sexist of TLC to want to portray JLo as a mom, rather than as the savvy businesswoman she is. Like her or not (and I don’t), you’ve got to give her credit for managing her career.

If someone like K-Fed got a reality show, of course it would be about his career. What a message to send, TLC! If you’re a woman, the only interesting part about you is your life as a mother.

  20. @ Debbie……I concur! LOL

actually, my kids and I were watching one of her vid’s they other day and were in hysterics as she played every character. She’s a comedian

  21. Doesn’t one have to have a career, before they can base a reality tv show on it. She hasn’t done anything relevant in years, and I hardly think that they could make an entire series out of her making a perfume. I completely agree with the fact that her children should not be exploited for a reality show, but then she has to realize that with out her family life, there is nothing worth watching.
